  • First measurement of e(+)e(-) -> pK(S)(0)(n)over-barK(-) + c.c. above open charm threshold
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Physical Review D. - 2470-0010 .- 2470-0029. ; 98:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The process e(+)e(-) -> pK(S)(0)(n) over barK(-) + c.c. and its intermediate processes are studied for the first time, using data samples collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII at center-of-mass energies of 3.773, 4.008, 4.226, 4.258, 4.358, 4.416, and 4.600 GeV, with a total integrated luminosity of 7.4 fb(-1). The Born cross section of e(+)e(-) -> pK(S)(0)(n) over barK(-) + c.c. is measured at each center-of-mass energy, but no significant resonant structure in the measured cross-section line shape between 3.773 and 4.600 GeV is observed. No evident structure is detected in the pK(-), nK(S)(0), pK(S)(0), nK(+), p (n) over bar, or (KSK-)-K-0 invariant mass distributions except for Lambda(1520). The Born cross sections of e(+)e(-) -> Lambda(1520)(n) over barK(S)(0) + c.c. and e(+)e(-) -> Lambda(1520)(p) over barK(+) + c.c. are measured, and the 90% confidence level upper limits on the Born cross sections of e(+)e(-) -> Lambda(1520)(Lambda) over bar (1520) are determined at the seven center-of-mass energies. There is an evident difference in line shape and magnitude of the measured cross sections between e(+)e(-) -> Lambda(1520)(-> pK(-))(n) over barK(S)(0) and e(+)e(-) -> pK-(Lambda) over bar (1520)(-> (n) over barK(S)(0)).

  • Measurement of e(+)e(-) -> D(D)over-bar cross sections at the psi(3770) resonance
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Chinese Physics C. - : IOP PUBLISHING LTD. - 1674-1137 .- 2058-6132. ; 42:8
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report new measurements of the cross sections for the production of D (D) over bar final states at the psi(3770) resonance. Our data sample consists of an integrated luminosity of 2.93 fb(-1) of e(+)e(-) annihilation data produced by the BEPCII collider and collected and analyzed with the BESIII detector. We exclusively reconstruct three D-0 and six D+ hadronic decay modes and use the ratio of the yield of fully reconstructed D (D) over bar events ("double tags") to the yield of all reconstructed D or (D) over bar mesons ("single tags") to determine the number of D-0(D) over bar (0) and D+D- events, benefiting from the cancellation of many systematic uncertainties. Combining these yields with an independent determination of the integrated luminosity of the data sample, we find the cross sections to be sigma(e(+)e(-) -> D-0(D) over bar (0)(-) )=(3.615 +/- 0.010 +/- 0.038) nb and sigma(e(+)e(-) -> D+D-)=(2.830 +/- 0.011 +/- 0.026) nb, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively.

  • Measurement of the integrated Luminosities of cross-section scan data samples around the psi(3770) mass region
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Chinese Physics C. - : SCIENCE PRESS. - 1674-1137 .- 2058-6132. ; 42:6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • To investigate the nature of the psi(3770) resonance and to measure the cross section for e(+)e(-) -> D (D) over bar, a cross-section scan data sample, distributed among 41 center-of-mass energy points from 3.73 to 3.89 GeV, was taken with the BESIII detector operated at the BEPCII collider in the year 2010. By analyzing the large angle Bhabha scattering events, we measure the integrated luminosity of the data sample at each center-of-mass energy point. The total integrated luminosity of the data sample is 76.16 +/- 0.04 +/- 0.61 pb(-1), where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic.

  • Search for invisible decays of omega and phi with J/psi data at BESIII
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Physical Review D. - : American Physical Society. - 2470-0010 .- 2470-0029. ; 98:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Using a data sample of (1310.6 +/- 7.0) x 10(6) J/psi events collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider, we perform the first experimental search for invisible decays of a light vector meson (V = omega, phi) via J/psi -> V-eta decays. The decay of eta -> pi(+)pi(-)pi(0) is utilized to tag the V meson decaying into the invisible final state. No evidence for a significant invisible signal is observed, and the upper limits on the ratio of branching fractions at the 90% confidence level are determined to be B(omega -> invisible)/B(omega -> pi(+)pi(-)pi(0)) < 8.1 x 10(-5) and B(phi -> invisible)/B(phi -> K+K-) < 3.4 x 10(-4). By using the world average values of B(omega -> pi(+)pi(-)pi(0) and B(phi -> K+K-,) the upper limits on the decay branching fractions at the 90% confidence level are set as B(omega -> invisible) < 7.3 x 10(-5) and B(phi -> invisible) < 1.7 x 10(-4), respectively.

  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - : AMER PHYSICAL SOC. - 0031-9007 .- 1079-7114. ; 121:8
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Using an e(+)e(-) collision data sample of 2.93 fb(-1) collected at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV by the BESIII detector at BEPCII, we report the observation of D-0 -> a(0)(980)(-)e(+)nu(e) and evidence for D+ -> a(0)(980)(0)e(+)nu(e) with significances of 6.4 sigma and 2.9 sigma, respectively. The absolute branching fractions are determined to be B(D-0 -> a(0)(980)(-)e(+)nu(e)) x B(a(0)(980)(-) -> eta pi(-)) = [1.33(-0.29)(+0.33)(stat) +/- 0.09(syst)] x 10(-4) and B(D+ -> a(0)(980)(0)e(+)nu(e)) x B(a(0)(980)(0) -> eta pi(0)) = [1.66(-0.66)(+0.81)(stat) +/- 0.11(syst) x 10(-4). This is the first time the a(0)(980) meson has been measured in a D-0 semileptonic decay, which would open one more interesting page in the investigation of the nature of the puzzling a(0)(980) states.

  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Physical Review D. - 2470-0010 .- 2470-0029. ; 97:9
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Based on a data sample of (448.1 +/- 2.9) x 10(6)Psi(3686) decays collected with the BESIII experiment, a search for the flavor changing neutral current transition Psi(3686) -> Lambda(+)(c) pe(+) e(-) + c.c. is performed for the first time. No signal candidates are observed and the upper limit on the branching fraction of Psi(3686) -> Lambda(+)(c) pe(+) e(-) is determined to be 1.7 x 10(-6) at the 90% confidence level. The result is consistent with expectations from the standard model, and no evidence for new physics is found.

  • The ABC130 barrel module prototyping programme for the ATLAS strip tracker
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Journal of Instrumentation. - : IOP PUBLISHING LTD. - 1748-0221. ; 15:9
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • For the Phase-II Upgrade of the ATLAS Detector [1], its Inner Detector, consisting of silicon pixel, silicon strip and transition radiation sub-detectors, will be replaced with an all new 100% silicon tracker, composed of a pixel tracker at inner radii and a strip tracker at outer radii. The future ATLAS strip tracker will include 11,000 silicon sensor modules in the central region (barrel) and 7,000 modules in the forward region (end-caps), which are foreseen to be constructed over a period of 3.5 years. The construction of each module consists of a series of assembly and quality control steps, which were engineered to be identical for all production sites. In order to develop the tooling and procedures for assembly and testing of these modules, two series of major prototyping programs were conducted: an early program using readout chips designed using a 250 nm fabrication process (ABCN-250) [2, 3] and a subsequent program using a follow-up chip set made using 130 nm processing (ABC130 and HCC130 chips). This second generation of readout chips was used for an extensive prototyping program that produced around 100 barrel-type modules and contributed significantly to the development of the final module layout. This paper gives an overview of the components used in ABC130 barrel modules, their assembly procedure and findings resulting from their tests.

  • Genetic identification of cell types underlying brain complex traits yields insights into the etiology of Parkinson’s disease
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Nature Genetics. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1061-4036 .- 1546-1718. ; 52:5, s. 482-493
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Genome-wide association studies have discovered hundreds of loci associated with complex brain disorders, but it remains unclear in which cell types these loci are active. Here we integrate genome-wide association study results with single-cell transcriptomic data from the entire mouse nervous system to systematically identify cell types underlying brain complex traits. We show that psychiatric disorders are predominantly associated with projecting excitatory and inhibitory neurons. Neurological diseases were associated with different cell types, which is consistent with other lines of evidence. Notably, Parkinson’s disease was genetically associated not only with cholinergic and monoaminergic neurons (which include dopaminergic neurons) but also with enteric neurons and oligodendrocytes. Using post-mortem brain transcriptomic data, we confirmed alterations in these cells, even at the earliest stages of disease progression. Our study provides an important framework for understanding the cellular basis of complex brain maladies, and reveals an unexpected role of oligodendrocytes in Parkinson’s disease. © 2020, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature America, Inc.

  • Genetic testing in inherited endocrine disorders: joint position paper of the European reference network on rare endocrine conditions (Endo-ERN)
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Orphanet Journal of Rare Diseases. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1750-1172. ; 15:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background With the development of molecular high-throughput assays (i.e. next generation sequencing), the knowledge on the contribution of genetic and epigenetic alterations to the etiology of inherited endocrine disorders has massively expanded. However, the rapid implementation of these new molecular tools in the diagnostic settings makes the interpretation of diagnostic data increasingly complex. Main body This joint paper of the ENDO-ERN members aims to overview chances, challenges, limitations and relevance of comprehensive genetic diagnostic testing in rare endocrine conditions in order to achieve an early molecular diagnosis. This early diagnosis of a genetically based endocrine disorder contributes to a precise management and helps the patients and their families in their self-determined planning of life. Furthermore, the identification of a causative (epi)genetic alteration allows an accurate prognosis of recurrence risks for family planning as the basis of genetic counselling. Asymptomatic carriers of pathogenic variants can be identified, and prenatal testing might be offered, where appropriate. Conclusions The decision on genetic testing in the diagnostic workup of endocrine disorders should be based on their appropriateness to reliably detect the disease-causing and -modifying mutation, their informational value, and cost-effectiveness. The future assessment of data from differentomicapproaches should be embedded in interdisciplinary discussions using all available clinical and molecular data.

  • Jupiter's Aurora Observed With HST During Juno Orbits 3 to 7
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Journal of Geophysical Research - Space Physics. - : AMER GEOPHYSICAL UNION. - 2169-9380 .- 2169-9402. ; 123:5, s. 3299-3319
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A large set of observations of Jupiter's ultraviolet aurora was collected with the Hubble Space Telescope concurrently with the NASA-Juno mission, during an eight-month period, from 30 November 2016 to 18 July 2017. These Hubble observations cover Juno orbits 3 to 7 during which Juno in situ and remote sensing instruments, as well as other observatories, obtained a wealth of unprecedented information on Jupiter's magnetosphere and the connection with its auroral ionosphere. Jupiter's ultraviolet aurora is known to vary rapidly, with timescales ranging from seconds to one Jovian rotation. The main objective of the present study is to provide a simplified description of the global ultraviolet auroral morphology that can be used for comparison with other quantities, such as those obtained with Juno. This represents an entirely new approach from which logical connections between different morphologies may be inferred. For that purpose, we define three auroral subregions in which we evaluate the auroral emitted power as a function of time. In parallel, we define six auroral morphology families that allow us to quantify the variations of the spatial distribution of the auroral emission. These variations are associated with changes in the state of the Jovian magnetosphere, possibly influenced by Io and the Io plasma torus and by the conditions prevailing in the upstream interplanetary medium. This study shows that the auroral morphology evolved differently during the five similar to 2week periods bracketing the times of Juno perijove (PJ03 to PJ07), suggesting that during these periods, the Jovian magnetosphere adopted various states.

  • Genome-wide analysis of 102,084 migraine cases identifies 123 risk loci and subtype-specific risk alleles
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Nature genetics. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1546-1718 .- 1061-4036. ; 54:2, s. 152-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Migraine affects over a billion individuals worldwide but its genetic underpinning remains largely unknown. Here, we performed a genome-wide association study of 102,084 migraine cases and 771,257 controls and identified 123 loci, of which 86 are previously unknown. These loci provide an opportunity to evaluate shared and distinct genetic components in the two main migraine subtypes: migraine with aura and migraine without aura. Stratification of the risk loci using 29,679 cases with subtype information indicated three risk variants that seem specific for migraine with aura (in HMOX2, CACNA1A and MPPED2), two that seem specific for migraine without aura (near SPINK2 and near FECH) and nine that increase susceptibility for migraine regardless of subtype. The new risk loci include genes encoding recent migraine-specific drug targets, namely calcitonin gene-related peptide (CALCA/CALCB) and serotonin 1F receptor (HTR1F). Overall, genomic annotations among migraine-associated variants were enriched in both vascular and central nervous system tissue/cell types, supporting unequivocally that neurovascular mechanisms underlie migraine pathophysiology.

  • Large-scale analysis of structural brain asymmetries during neurodevelopment : Associations with age and sex in 4265 children and adolescents.
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Human Brain Mapping. - 1065-9471 .- 1097-0193. ; 45:11, s. e26754-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Only a small number of studies have assessed structural differences between the two hemispheres during childhood and adolescence. However, the existing findings lack consistency or are restricted to a particular brain region, a specific brain feature, or a relatively narrow age range. Here, we investigated associations between brain asymmetry and age as well as sex in one of the largest pediatric samples to date (n = 4265), aged 1-18 years, scanned at 69 sites participating in the ENIGMA (Enhancing NeuroImaging Genetics through Meta-Analysis) consortium. Our study revealed that significant brain asymmetries already exist in childhood, but their magnitude and direction depend on the brain region examined and the morphometric measurement used (cortical volume or thickness, regional surface area, or subcortical volume). With respect to effects of age, some asymmetries became weaker over time while others became stronger; sometimes they even reversed direction. With respect to sex differences, the total number of regions exhibiting significant asymmetries was larger in females than in males, while the total number of measurements indicating significant asymmetries was larger in males (as we obtained more than one measurement per cortical region). The magnitude of the significant asymmetries was also greater in males. However, effect sizes for both age effects and sex differences were small. Taken together, these findings suggest that cerebral asymmetries are an inherent organizational pattern of the brain that manifests early in life. Overall, brain asymmetry appears to be relatively stable throughout childhood and adolescence, with some differential effects in males and females.

  • E. coli-based semi-artificial photosynthesis : biocompatibility of redox mediators and electron donors in [FeFe] hydrogenase driven hydrogen evolution
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Energy Advances. - : Royal Society of Chemistry. - 2753-1457. ; 2:12, s. 2085-2092
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Semi-artificial photosynthesis aims to harness the power of biocatalysis while breaking away from the limitations of Nature's photosynthetic machinery, by merging artificial light harvesters with enzyme catalysts. However, the artificial photocatalytic components are generally toxic towards the biological components. In this study, we investigate a system wherein Escherichia coli cells, heterologously expressing an [FeFe] hydrogenase, act as hydrogen evolution catalyst in combination with an artificial photosensitizer, sacrificial electron donor, and redox mediator. Previously, the use of artificial components or their reaction products was found to be toxic to E. coli cells. To overcome this challenge, we examined alternative electron donors and redox mediators, achieving turnover numbers (TON, 39.6 mu mol H-2 per 1 mL sample with OD600 = 5) and turnover frequencies (TOF, 812 nmol H-2 h(-1) per 1 mL sample with OD600 = 5) on par with previously reported high performing E. coli-based systems while greatly reducing cytotoxic effects. Transient absorption spectroscopy revealed how the choice of photosensitizer, electron donor, and redox mediator affects the observed photocatalytic TOFs. Following optimization of the redox mediator and electron donor the biocatalyst demonstrated remarkable stability throughout the experiments. We identified the availability of electrons from the electron donor as the primary limiting factor, with approximately 85% of electrons being effectively utilized for hydrogen production. Furthermore, the observed activity with different [FeFe] hydrogenases verified the broad applicability of the identified photocatalytic components to promote light-driven catalysis in bio-hybrid systems.

  • 2023
  • Ingår i: ACS Catalysis. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 2155-5435. ; 13:14, s. 9476-9486
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Both photo- and biocatalysis are well-established andintensivelystudied. The combination of these two approaches is also an emergingresearch field, commonly referred to as semi-artificial photosynthesis.Semi-artificial photosynthesis aims at combining highly efficientsynthetic light harvesters with the self-healing and potent catalyticproperties of biocatalysis. In this study, a semi-artificial photocatalyticsystem featuring Escherichia coli bacteria, which heterologously express the [FeFe] hydrogenase enzyme HydA1 fromgreen algae, is employed as a hydrogen gas production catalyst. Toprobe the influence of photochemistry on overall system performance, the E. coli whole-cell catalyst iscombined with two different photosensitizers and redox mediators. The addition of a redox mediator greatly improves the rates and longevityof the photocatalytic system, as reflected in increases of both theturn-over number (0.777 vs 10.9 & mu;mol H-2 mL(-1) OD600 (-1)) and the turn-over frequency(175 vs 334 & mu;mol H-2 mL(-1) h(-1) OD600 (-1)). The redoxmediator is found to both protect from photobleaching and enable electrontransport to the hydrogenase from an extracellular photosensitizer. However, E. coli cells are stronglyaffected by the photocatalytic system, leading to a decrease in cellintegrity and cell viability, possibly due to toxic decompositionproducts formed during the photocatalytic process. We furthermoreemployed steady-state and transient absorption spectroscopy to investigatesolution potentials and the kinetics of electron transfer processesbetween the sacrificial electron donor, photosensitizer, redox mediator, and the [FeFe] hydrogenase as the final electron acceptor. These resultsallowed us to rationalize the different activities observed in photocatalyticassays and offer a better understanding of the factors that influencethe photocatalytic performance of E. coli-based whole-cell systems.

  • Ring Shadowing Effects on Saturn's Ionosphere : Implications for Ring Opacity and Plasma Transport
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Geophysical Research Letters. - : AMER GEOPHYSICAL UNION. - 0094-8276 .- 1944-8007. ; 45:19, s. 10084-10092
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present new results obtained by the Radio and Plasma Wave Science Langmuir probe on board Cassini during the Grand Finale. The total direct current sampled by the Langmuir probe at negative bias voltage is used to study the effect of the ring shadows on the structure of the Kronian topside ionosphere. The D and C rings and the Cassini Division are confirmed to be optically thin to extreme ultraviolet solar radiation. However, different responses from the opaque A and B rings are observed. The edges of the A ring shadow are shown to match the A ring boundaries, unlike the B ring, which indicates variable responses to the B ring shadow. We show that the variable responses are due to the ionospheric plasma, more precisely to the longer chemical lifetime of H+ compared to H-2(+) and H-3(+), suggesting that the plasma is transported from the sunlit region to the shadowed one in the ionosphere. Plain Language Summary As Saturn's northern hemisphere experienced summer during the Grand Finale, the planet's northern dayside hemisphere and its rings were fully illuminated by the Sun. However, the southern hemisphere was partly obscured because of the shadows cast by the A and B rings. Using the in situ measurements of the Langmuir probe part of the Radio and Plasma Wave Science investigation on board the Cassini spacecraft, we study for the first time the effect of the ring shadows on Saturn's ionosphere. From the ring shadows signatures on the total ion current collected by the Langmuir probe, we show that the A and B rings are optically thicker (to the solar extreme ultraviolet radiation) than the inner C and D rings and the Cassini Division to the solar extreme ultraviolet radiation. Moreover, we reproduce the boundaries of the A ring and the outer edge of the B ring. Furthermore, observed variations with respect to the inner edge of the B ring imply a delayed response of the ionospheric H+ because of its long lifetime and suggest that the ionospheric plasma is transported from an unshadowed region to a shadowed one in the ionosphere.
