  • 2004
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Modern Physics A. - 0217-751X. ; 19:30, s. 5097-5186
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • High energy photon colliders (gammagamma, gammae) are based on e(-)e(-) linear colliders where high energy photons are produced using Compton scattering of laser light on high energy electrons just before the interaction point. This paper is a part of the Technical Design Report of the linear collider TESLA.(1) Physics program, possible parameters and some technical aspects of the photon collider at TESLA are discussed.

  • Integral equation for spin dependent unintegrated parton distributions incorporating double In-2(1/x) effects at low x
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Physical Review D (Particles and Fields). - 0556-2821. ; 67:3: 034014
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper we derive an integral equation for the evolution of unintegrated (longitudinally) polarized quark and gluon parton distributions. The conventional Catani-Ciafaloni-Fiorani-Marchesini (CCFM) framework is modified at small x in order to incorporate the QCD expectations concerning the double ln(2)(1/x) resummation at low x for the integrated distributions. Complete Altarelli-Parisi splitting functions are included that makes the formalism compatible with the leading order Altarelli-Parisi evolution at large and moderately small values of x. The obtained modified polarized CCFM equation is shown to be partially diagonalized by the Fourier-Bessel transformation. Results of the numerical solution for this modifed polarized CCFM equation for the nonsinglet quark distributions are presented.

  • Staphylokinase controls Staphylococcus aureus biofilm formation and detachment through host plasminogen activation.
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: The Journal of infectious diseases. - : Oxford University Press (OUP). - 0022-1899 .- 1537-6613. ; 213:1, s. 139-148
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Staphylococcus aureus biofilms, a leading cause of persistent infections, are highly resistant to immune defenses and antimicrobial therapies. In this study, we investigated the contribution of fibrin and staphylokinase to biofilm formation. Both in clinical S. aureus isolates and in laboratory strains, high staphylokinase-producing strains formed less biofilm than strains that lacked staphylokinase, suggesting that staphylokinase prevents biofilm formation. Additionally, staphylokinase induced detachment of mature biofilms. This effect depended on plasminogen activation by staphylokinase. Host-derived fibrin, the main substrate cleaved by staphylokinase-activated plasminogen, was a major component of biofilm matrix and dissolution of this fibrin scaffold greatly increased susceptibility of biofilms to antibiotics and neutrophil phagocytosis. Staphylokinase also attenuated biofilm-associated catheter infections in mouse models. In conclusion, our results reveal a novel role for staphylokinase-induced plasminogen activation that prevents S. aureus biofilm formation and induces detachment of existing biofilms through proteolytic cleavage of biofilm matrix components.

  • Two-photon cross-sections from the saturation model
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Acta Physica Polonica B. - : Jagellonian University, Cracow. - 0587-4254 .- 1509-5770. ; B33:6, s. 1559-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A saturation model for the total \gamma \gamma and \gamma* \gamma* cross-sections and for the real photon structure function F2\gamma (x,Q2) is described. The model is based on a QCD dipole picture of high energy scattering. The two-dipole cross-section is assumed to satisfy the saturation property with the saturation radius taken from the GBW analysis of the \gamma*p interaction at HERA. The model is combined with the QPM and non-pomeron reggeon contributions and it gives a very good description of the data on the \gamma \gamma total cross-section, on the photon structure function F2\gamma (x,Q2) at low x and on the \gamma* \gamma* cross-section. Production of heavy quarks in \gamma \gamma collisions is also studied.

  • Chitosan-protein scaffolds loaded with lysostaphin as potential antistaphylococcal wound dressing materials
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Journal of Applied Microbiology. - : Oxford University Press (OUP). - 1364-5072. ; 117:3, s. 634-642
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Aims: The development of technology for preparing chitosan-protein scaffolds loaded with lysostaphin, which potentially could be used as dressing for wound treatment and soft tissue infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus. Methods and Results: The unique technology of chitosan solubilization using gaseous CO2 instead of organic or inorganic acids was used for the incorporation of lysostaphin, the enzyme that exhibits bactericidal activity against staphylococci, within the structure of chitosan-protein sponges. The developed chitosan-protein scaffolds loaded with lysostaphin revealed high antistaphylococcal activity, which has been confirmed with a large (n = 143) collection of clinical (skin and wound infections) and animal (bovine mastitis) isolates of these bacteria, including MRSA. No change of bactericidal activity of the lyophilized materials has been observed during half-year storage at 4 degrees C. Conclusions: The developed materials are potential candidates for preparing biologically active, antistaphylococcal wound dressing materials. Significance and Impact of the Study: Staphylococci belong to the most popular and most burdensome aetiological factors of wound and soft tissues infections. The developed chitosan-protein scaffolds loaded with lysostaphin could be a possible solution to problems associated with treatment of these infections.

  • Saturation model for 2-gamma physics
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Acta Physica Polonica B. - : Jagellonian University, Cracow. - 0587-4254 .- 1509-5770. ; B33:10, s. 3045-3050
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We introduce a saturation model for photon-photon interactions, based on a QCD dipole picture of high energy scattering. The two-dipole cross-section is assumed to satisfy the saturation property. This pomeron-like contribution is supplemented with QPM and non-pomeron reggeon contributions. The model gives a very good description of the data on the \gamma \gamma total cross-section, on the photon structure function F2\gamma (x,Q2) at low x and on the \gamma * \gamma * cross section.

  • Saturation model for two-photon interactions at high energies
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. - : Springer-Verlag, Berlin, Heidelberg. - 1434-6044 .- 1434-6052. ; 23:3, s. 513-526
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We formulate and analyse a saturation model for the total γγ and γ∗γ∗ cross-sections and for the real photon structure function Fγ2(x,Q2) . The model is based on a picture in which the γ∗γ∗ total cross-section for arbitrary photon virtualities is driven by the interaction of colour dipoles into which the virtual photons fluctuate. The cross-section describing this interaction is assumed to satisfy the saturation property with the saturation radius taken from the Golec-Biernat and Wüsthoff analysis of the γ∗p interaction at HERA. The model is supplemented by the QPM and non-pomeron reggeon contributions. The model gives a very good description of the data on the γγ total cross-section, on the photon structure function Fγ2(x,Q2) at lowx and on the γ∗γ∗ cross-section extracted from LEP double tagged events. The production of heavy flavours in γγ collisions is also studied. Predictions of the model for the very high energy range which will be probed at future linear colliders are given.
