  • Synthesis and characterization of nano-crystalline CVD diamond film on pure titanium using Ar/CH 4/H 2 gas mixture
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Materials letters (General ed.). - : Elsevier BV. - 0167-577X .- 1873-4979. ; 61:11-12, s. 2139-2142

    • Titanium and Ti alloys have poor tribological properties and deposition of a well adherent diamond coating is a promising way to solve this problem. But diamond film deposition on pure titanium and Ti alloys is always difficult due to the high diffusion coefficient of carbon in Ti, the large mismatch in their thermal expansion coefficients, the complex nature of the interlayer formed during diamond deposition, and the difficulty of achieving very high nucleation density. A nano-crystalline diamond (NCD) film can resolve Ti and Ti alloys weak tribological performance due to its smooth surface. A well-adhered NCD film was successfully deposited on pure Ti substrate by using a microwave plasma assisted chemical vapor deposition (MWPCVD) system in the environment of Ar, CH4 and H2 gases at a moderate temperature. Detailed experimental results on the preparation, characterization and successful deposition of the NCD film on pure Ti are discussed

  • Single cell atlas for 11 non-model mammals, reptiles and birds
  • 2021

    • The availability of viral entry factors is a prerequisite for the cross-species transmission of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Large-scale single-cell screening of animal cells could reveal the expression patterns of viral entry genes in different hosts. However, such exploration for SARS-CoV-2 remains limited. Here, we perform single-nucleus RNA sequencing for 11 non-model species, including pets (cat, dog, hamster, and lizard), livestock (goat and rabbit), poultry (duck and pigeon), and wildlife (pangolin, tiger, and deer), and investigated the co-expression of ACE2 and TMPRSS2. Furthermore, cross-species analysis of the lung cell atlas of the studied mammals, reptiles, and birds reveals core developmental programs, critical connectomes, and conserved regulatory circuits among these evolutionarily distant species. Overall, our work provides a compendium of gene expression profiles for non-model animals, which could be employed to identify potential SARS-CoV-2 target cells and putative zoonotic reservoirs.

  • Stereoselective Synthesis of Maresin-like Lipid Mediators
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Synlett : accounts and rapid communications in synthetic organic chemistry. - : Georg Thieme Verlag KG. - 0936-5214. ; 30:3, s. 343-347

    • 14S,22-Dihydroxy-docosa-4Z,7Z,10Z,12E,16Z,19Z-hexaenoic acid (maresin-L1) and 14R,22-dihydroxy-docosa-4Z,7Z,10Z, 12E,16Z,19Z-hexaenoic acid (maresin-L2) were chemically synthesized. They were identical to activated macrophage-produced counterparts and their total synthesis was highly stereoselective, as revealed by chiral LC-UV-MS/MS analysis. The synthesis involved the following steps: (1) kinetic resolution of a racemic allylic alcohol by the asymmetric epoxidation; (2) transformation of the epoxy alcohol to γ-hydroxyenal derivative; and (3) the Wittig reaction to furnish the Z-olefin.

  • Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 attenuates atherosclerotic lesions by targeting vascular cells
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America. - : Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. - 1091-6490. ; 107:36, s. 15886-15891
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) is a newly discovered homolog of ACE whose actions oppose those of angiotensin II (AngII). However, the underlying mechanisms by which ACE2 effectively suppresses early atherosclerotic lesions remain poorly understood. Here, we show, both in vitro and in vivo, that ACE2 inhibited the development of early atherosclerotic lesions by suppressing the growth of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) and improving endothelial function. In a relatively large cohort animal study (66 rabbits), aortic segments transfected by Ad-ACE2 showed significantly attenuated fatty streak formation, neointimal macrophage infiltration, and alleviation of impaired endothelial function. Segments also showed decreased expression of monocyte chemoattractant protein 1, lectin-like oxidized low-density lipoprotein receptor 1, and proliferating cell nuclear antigen, which led to the delayed onset of atherosclerotic lesions. At the cellular level, ACE2 significantly modulated AngII-induced growth and migration in human umbilical vein endothelial cells and VSMCs. The antiatherosclerotic effect of ACE2 involved down-regulation of the ERK-p38, JAK-STAT, and AngII-ROS-NF-κB signaling pathways and up-regulation of the PI3K-Akt pathway. These findings revealed the molecular mechanisms of the antiatherosclerotic activity of ACE2 and suggested that modulation of ACE2 could offer a therapeutic option for treating atherosclerosis.
