    • Because of the large number of companies that enter the market on a daily basis and the new business trends, the business environment is always evolving. Companies must develop a flexible management system to respond to quick changes in order to maintain a competitive advantage in the market. To do so, businesses must constantly produce new ideas and suggest innovative ways to keep up with the market. Hence this work aimed to examined the link between management innovation and company sustainability. A case study was undertaken on a local manufacturing company that faces management innovation and business sustainability issues. The needed data was gathered through a questionnaire that was distributed to the company's employees. To extract the conclusions, the questionnaire results were analyzed using statistical techniques. The findings indicate that management innovation enhances organizational sustainable performance and drives sustainability. The finding is a usefull guide for entrepreneurs and company ploicy makers to necessitates continual management improvement.

    • Narrow bipolar pulses (NBPs) are considered as isolated intracloud events with higher peak amplitude and strong high frequency emission compared to the first return strokes and other intracloud discharges. From 182 NBPs recorded in Malaysia in the tropic, 75 were narrow negative bipolar pulses (NNBPs) while 107 were narrow positive bipolar pulses (NPBPs). The mean duration of NNBPs was 24.6 +/- 17.1 mu s, while 30.2 +/- 12.3 mu s was observed for NPBPs. The mean full-width at half-maximum (FVVHM) was 2.2 +/- 0.7 and 2.4 +/- 1.4 mu s for NNBPs and NPBPs, respectively. The mean peak amplitude of NPBPs normalized to 100 km was 22.7 V/m, a factor of 1.3 higher than that of NNBPs which is 17.6 V/m. In contrast to the previous studies, it was observed that the electric field change was characterized by a bipolar pulse with a significant amount of fine structures separated by a few tens of nanoseconds intervals, embedded on it.     • Although autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) have a substantial genetic basis, most of the known genetic risk has been traced to rare variants, principally copy number variants (CNVs). To identify common risk variation, the Autism Genome Project (AGP) Consortium genotyped 1558 rigorously defined ASD families for 1 million single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and analyzed these SNP genotypes for association with ASD. In one of four primary association analyses, the association signal for marker rs4141463, located within MACROD2, crossed the genome-wide association significance threshold of P < 5 × 10(-8). When a smaller replication sample was analyzed, the risk allele at rs4141463 was again over-transmitted; yet, consistent with the winner's curse, its effect size in the replication sample was much smaller; and, for the combined samples, the association signal barely fell below the P < 5 × 10(-8) threshold. Exploratory analyses of phenotypic subtypes yielded no significant associations after correction for multiple testing. They did, however, yield strong signals within several genes, KIAA0564, PLD5, POU6F2, ST8SIA2 and TAF1C.

    • Aerobic granulation is increasingly used in wastewater treatment due to its unique physical properties and microbial functionalities. Granule size defines the physical properties of granules based on biomass accumulation. This study aims to determine the profile of size development under two physicochemical conditions. Two identical bioreactors namely Rnp and Rp were operated under non-phototrophic and phototrophic conditions, respectively. An illustrative scheme was developed to comprehend the mechanism of size development that delineates the granular size throughout the granulation. Observations on granules' size variation have shown that activated sludge revolutionised into the form of aerobic granules through the increase of biomass concentration in bioreactors which also determined the changes of granule size. Both reactors demonstrated that size transformed in a similar trend when tested with and without illumination. Thus, different types of aerobic granules may increase in size in the same way as recommended in the aerobic granule size development scheme.

    • Rice growing regions plagued by arsenic-contaminated soils and irrigation water do not have a viable option for producing arsenic-free crops. For instance, in Bangladesh every year more than 30 million people are affected from rice-derived arsenic contamination that contributes to arsenic levels known to cause health-related illnesses. Our strategy is to genetically-modify molecular mechanisms involved in the localization of arsenic to divert it to the non-edible parts of the plant. To identify viable candidate genes, we employed data mining, an in silico analysis based on searching existing genomic databases and in the genetic model plant Arabidopsis thaliana. To assist our investigation, we constructed a kinetic model to outline strategies for developing genetically-modified plants exhibiting a significant reduction in arsenic concentration in the edible parts (straw and grain). This model contains equations for uptake, metabolism and sequestration of different types of arsenic (As (V), As (III), MMAA and DMAA). The model was implemented using XPP and validated against existing data from the literature. From these analysis, we identified four candidate genes that are involved either in uptake, transport or cellular localization of arsenic in plants. But we found only one gene implicated in arsenic metabolism in rice. In parallel, we identified available T-DNA insertion mutants to determine the effects of these genes on arsenic accumulation. Results obtained from in silico data-mining, kinetic modeling, and assays with T-DNA insertion mutants will be used to design gene cloning experiments to study the target genes in yeast, E. coli and Arabidopsis heterologous systems. Upon confirmation of the effectiveness of these candidates, vectors containing the target genes will be constructed for transformation into rice. The new rice varieties produced will be tested under field conditions to assess their effectiveness at reducing or eliminating arsenic from the edible parts of the rice plant.

    • The octane enhancement of light straight run naphtha is one of the significant solid acid catalyzed processes in the modern oil refineries due to limitations of benzene, aromatics, and olefin content in gasoline. This paper aims to examine the role of various catalysts that are being utilized for the isomerization of light naphtha with an ambition to give an insight into the reaction mechanism at the active catalyst sites, and the effect of various contaminants on catalyst activity. In addition, different technologies used for isomerization process are evaluated and compared by different process parameters.

  • Functional impact of global rare copy number variation in autism spectrum disorders.

    • The autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) are a group of conditions characterized by impairments in reciprocal social interaction and communication, and the presence of restricted and repetitive behaviours. Individuals with an ASD vary greatly in cognitive development, which can range from above average to intellectual disability. Although ASDs are known to be highly heritable ( approximately 90%), the underlying genetic determinants are still largely unknown. Here we analysed the genome-wide characteristics of rare (<1% frequency) copy number variation in ASD using dense genotyping arrays. When comparing 996 ASD individuals of European ancestry to 1,287 matched controls, cases were found to carry a higher global burden of rare, genic copy number variants (CNVs) (1.19 fold, P = 0.012), especially so for loci previously implicated in either ASD and/or intellectual disability (1.69 fold, P = 3.4 x 10(-4)). Among the CNVs there were numerous de novo and inherited events, sometimes in combination in a given family, implicating many novel ASD genes such as SHANK2, SYNGAP1, DLGAP2 and the X-linked DDX53-PTCHD1 locus. We also discovered an enrichment of CNVs disrupting functional gene sets involved in cellular proliferation, projection and motility, and GTPase/Ras signalling. Our results reveal many new genetic and functional targets in ASD that may lead to final connected pathways.
