Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
- The first ESS prototype cryomodule with medium beta cavities named M-ECCTD is being assembled at CEA Saclay. The Q curves of the 4 cavities mounted inside the cryomodule are presented, and the four power couplers have been conditioned at high power before their assembly onto the cavity string. Completion of the M-ECCTD assembly outside clean room is in progress as well as the finalization of the RF power test stand preparation. RF power tests of the M-ECCTD will be performed during summer 2017. CEA is preparing the production of the ESS medium and high beta cryomodules of the series before the test of the M-ECCTD and the contracts for the procurement of the most critical components have already been signed.

The superconducting radio-frequency linear accelerator components for the European spallation source : First test results

Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
- The European Spallation Source requires a pulsed linac with an average beam power on the target of 5 MW, which is about five times higher than the most powerful spallation source in operation today. Over 97 % of the acceleration occurs in superconducting cavities. ESS will be the first accelerator to employ double spoke cavities to accelerate beam. Accelerating gradients of 9 MV/meter is required in the spoke section. The spoke section will be followed by 36 elliptical 704 MHz cavities with a geometrical E of 0.67 and elliptical 704 MHz cavities with a geometrical E of 0.86. Accelerating gradients of 16.7 and 20 MV/m are required in the medium and high-E elliptical cavities, respectively. Initial gradient test results will be presented in which results exceed expected requirements.

Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
- The accelerator of the European Spallation Source (ESS) is a 5 MW proton linac to be built in Lund Sweden. Its superconducting section is composed of 3 cavity families: double spoke resonators, medium beta and high beta elliptical multi-cell cavities. This paper presents the electromagnetic and mechanical design of the elliptical cavities. Both elliptical families are housed in 4-cavity cryomodules which share a common design and set of components which will be described here.
