  • Rasbiologiskt språkbruk i statens rättsprocess mot sameby : DN Debatt 2015-06-11
  • 2015
  • Annan publikation (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract

  • 2017
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The aim of this thesis is to map and analyse literature written by authors with a Hungarian-language background who moved to Sweden between 1945 and 2015, and who have published literary works in book format. From the perspective of the sociology of literature, this thesis focuses on publishing channels and possibilities, the authors’ and their works places in the literary value system and feed-back in the form of reviews, but also choice of language, theme, and genre. The approach of the research for this thesis is new in Hungarian and Swedish literary studies, as the literary works are analysed irrespective of the language in which they are written. The research corpus consists of both Hungarian and Swedish literary works and one book in English. The second chapter presents the research that Hungarian researchers have conducted on Hungarian migration literature and offers an overview of the questions and results arising from this research. The authors with a Hungarian-language background in Sweden were divided into four groups, based on the time of their migration to Sweden. Four chapters, which comprise the analytic part of the thesis, present and analyse the author groups and their literary activities regarding language, purpose of any code-switching, chosen theme, and genre. The first group consists of authors who migrated to Sweden during the decade after the Second World War (1945–1955). The second group came between 1956 and 1958 in the aftermath of the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. The third group consists of Hungarians who moved to Sweden during the communist era, between 1959 and 1989. Finally, the fourth group came after the fall of communism (1990–2015). As many as half of the authors chose either Hungarian or Swedish as their language and there are surprisingly few authors working in both languages. The publishing channels depend on the literary works language and theme, and only half of the books have been published at established publishers. The literary works of these authors are categorized as Swedish-Hungarian migration literature. Literary history works until now have neglected these type of literatures, but it is imperative that the study of literature finds a way to acknowledge, include, position, and group them.

  • Analysis of distribution reliability in performance-based regulation
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: 2004 International Conference On Probabilistic Methods Applied To Power Systems. - 0976131919 ; , s. 82-87
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • As a consequence of the liberalization of the electricity sector where electricity markets are deregulated and grid ownership are privatized, the need for regulation of Distribution Grid Owners (DGOs) due to the monopoly nature of electric distribution has increased. The regulation of DGOs is in many countries conducted based on the DGOs' performance, Le. Performance-Based Regulation (PBR). PBR is meant as a substitute for a competitive market by rewarding efficient DGOs and/or penalizing inefficient DGOs. A risk however is that distribution quality suffers due to lack of maintenance and postponed investments as the DGOs become more financially challenged. In order to prevent this the efficiency regulation can be combined with quality regulation in which poor quality either means decreased revenue or increased expenses. Quality regulation usually is conducted on one-year basis, this means that the yearly variation of system reliability brings financial uncertainty to DGOs. In order to make more accurate financial risk assessments the yearly variation of system reliability must be considered. In this paper a sequential Monte Carlo Simulations (MCS) method is described and applied on a reliability test system in order to conduct comparative analyzes of quality regulation model within PBR.

  • Comparison of incentives for distribution system reliability in performance-based regulation
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: PROCEEDINGS OF THE 2004 IEEE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ELECTRIC UTILITY DEREGULATION, RESTRUCTURING AND POWER TECHNOLOGIES, VOLS 1 AND 2. - NEW YORK : IEEE. - 0780382374 ; , s. 485-490
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In recent years as many European electricity markets are deregulated, Network Utilities are liberalized and privatized. Consequently, the economic regulations of Distribution Utilities, which is applied due to the monopoly nature of network activities, have switched from cost-based regulation to Performance Based Regulation (PBR). PBR gives Distribution Utilities incentives to reduce costs. However, increased cost efficiency may lead to decrements in distribution quality, therefore is quality regulation necessary. In this paper the basic outlines of Distribution Utility regulation in Sweden, Norway, Spain and the Netherlands are compared. Focus in the comparison lie on the quality regulation framework and the incentives brought upon the Distribution Utilities based on the PBR-models' framework.

  • Impact of System Related Factors on the Distribution Reliability, a Statistical analysis of two Swedish Distribution Grids
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: CIDEL Argentina 2006.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Regulatory regimes that put focus on performance rather than looking at the actual costs of the distribution system operators (DSOs) create strong cost-cutting incentives, and to avoid system reliability deterioration the quality of supply is most often a feature in the performance yardstick. This has raised the stakes due to quality and consequently increased the interest that the DSOs have regarding their quality of supply. As in many European countries, this is the scenario in Sweden. As a tool to value the DSOs? performance the Swedish regulator uses the Network Performance Assessment Model (NPAM), which is a reference network model. Since the direct link between the DSOs? costs and income is weak, the costcutting incentives are rather strong, thus the quality of supply features within the regulation makes a significant contribution in the performance yardstick. This have resulted in that now the distribution system operators can be penalized due to poor quality of supply, which means that greater effort is now put into analysing and evaluation their quality performance. The underlying project is result of this evelopment. This paper presents some of the main conclusions of a project conducted during 2005, where comprehensive outage statistics, covering tree years from two separate distribution grids, have been gathered, organized and analyzed. The purpose has been to analyse the connection certain system related factors and the interruptions that occur in the distribution systems. The analyses are categorized according to customer related and interruption related factors.

  • On risk mitigation strategies with focus on distribution system reliability in performance-based regulation
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Eighteenth International Conference and Exhibition on Electricity Distribution, CIRED 2005, Technical Reports - Session 1. ; , s. 119-123
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Financial risks are not usually associated with grid operation but regulatory regimes with focus on performance that applies quality dependent revenue or price caps are used to greater extend than before to regulate Distribution System Operators. Due to the uncertainty in annual system reliability, the financial risks within grid operation are therefore tangible. This paper is an introduction to the complex area of risk management in Performance-Based Regulation (PBR). A general strategy framework for risk management is described and then put into a PBR environment. The basic idea is to manage the risk of performance-based revenues by mitigating the uncertainty in regulatory outcome. The main focus lies on markets in which the grid ownership is totally separated from generation and retail such as the Swedish and Norwegian markets.

  • Optimal distribution tariffs in presence of flexible customers in deregulated markets
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: 2003 IEEE Bologna Power Tech Conference Proceedings. ; , s. 8-
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The issue of variation of distribution tariffs in order for distribution grid companies to maximize their profits in presence of flexible customers is presented. First, present and future regulation of distribution grid companies and the main issues of transmission and distribution tariffs are described. Second, the fundamental theory on consumers’ surplus, grid companies’ profit maximisation are described as well as assumptions and simplifications made in the paper. Third, a numerical example is presented in order to highlight the main issues of the paper. Finally, conclusions based upon the numerical example and the fundamental theory can be found.

  • Reliability in performance-based regulation
  • 2005
  • Licentiatavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In reregulated and restructured electricity markets the production and retail of electricity is conducted on competitive markets, the transmission and distribution on the other hand can be considered as natural monopolies. The financial regulation of Distribution System Operators (DSOs) has in many countries, partly as a consequence of the restructuring in ownership, gone through a major switch in regulatory policy. From applying regulatory regimes were the DSOs were allowed to charge their customers according to their actual cost plus some profit, i.e. cost-based regulation, to regulatory models in which the DSOs performance are valued in order to set the allowable revenue, i.e. Performance-Based Regulation (PBR). In regulatory regimes that value performance, the direct link between cost and income is weakened or sometimes removed. This give the regulated DSOs strong cost cutting incentives and there is consequently a risk of system reliability deterioration due to postponed maintenance and investments in order to save costs. To balance this risk the PBR-framework is normally complemented with some kind of quality regulation (QR). How both the PBR and QR frameworks are constructed determines the incentive that the DSO will act on and will therefore influence the system reliability development. This thesis links the areas of distribution system reliability and performancebased regulation. First, the key incentive features within PBR, that includes the quality of supply, are identified using qualitative measures that involve analyses of applied regulatory regimes, and general regulatory policies. This results in a qualitative comparison of applied PBR models. Further, the qualitative results are quantified and analysed further using time sequential Monte Carlo simulations (MCS). The MCS enables detailed analysis of regulatory features, parameter settings and financial risk assessments. In addition, the applied PBRframeworks can be quantitatively compared. Finally, some focus have been put on the Swedish regulation and the tool developed for DSO regulation, the Network Performance Assessment Model (NPAM), what obstacles there might be and what consequences it might bring when in affect.

  • Walk this way : Verbs of motion in three Finno-Ugric languages
  • 2001
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The verbs of motion in North Khanty, North Saarni and Hungarian, three genetically related, but geographically, culturally and historically separated languages, are analysed from a synchronic and diachronic point of view. The study is based on material deriving from informants and written sources in each language. The synchronic analysis, where the verbs are studied and categorised according to their semantic features, shows that these languages have similarities concerning the qualities and numbers of categories but that the languages diverge as far as the number of verbs in the category containing modified manners of movement are concerned. The diachronic study shows that verbs having basic meaning are more often preserved than verbs having a more peripheral meaning. It is also shown that deixis is genetically bound and preserved even though the language concerned has gone through considerable cultural change.

  • Samiska ord för ord : Att mäta lexikalt avstånd mellan språk
  • 2014
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Most of the classical methods of language and dialect classification are based on a diachronic analysis of phonological differences between the language varieties concerned. Because of this fact, such classifications are not always a reliable basis for describing the current distances between varieties, since diachronic differences and similarities do not automatically produce the same results as synchronic comparisons. Furthermore, phonological coincidences do not have the same relevance as lexical ones when it comes to the level of mutual understanding, which must be regarded as an important factor in describing current linguistic distances. As one of the most important aims of this thesis, therefore, a new method is presented for the classification of genetically related linguistic varieties, based on synchronic lexical comparisons. The ultimate purpose of this lexical method is not to supersede the phonological approach, but to complement it.The research corpus consists primarily of a certain number of the most frequent words of the varieties analysed . This basic vocabulary is assumed to most adequately represent the lexicon of a language or a dialect. As a contrast, Swadesh words (i.e. notions belonging to the historical basic vocabulary, which have been expressed by words in languages for thousands of years) are also analysed, representing a different kind of basic vocabulary. The main aim of the study is to apply the new method to some of the Saami languages, as their linguistic classification has always been problematic – linguists have classified them using similar methods, but with differing results. As a reference to the new findings concerning varieties of Saami, the method has been applied to other Finno-Ugric languages and also, to some extent, to the North Germanic and a number of Romance languages.
