- This paper reports on multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock calculations for intercombination lines in highly charged silicon-like ions. Results for wavelengths, fine structure, transition rates, branching ratios and lifetimes are reported and compared with other theories and experiments. A review of the experimental situation is presented, and deviations from expected smooth trends along the sequence are discussed.

Photon angular distribution and polarization of radiative recombination

- A systematic study is carried out on the angular distribution and polarization of photons emitted following radiative-recombination of bare and He-like ions of Ne, Ar, Ni and Mo with a unidirectional electron beam. In order to incorporate the screening effect due to inner-shell electrons, a distorted wave method is used. Scaling rules for polarization of the photon following radiative recombination to both bare and He-like ions are given for the incident energy regions up to six times the ionization threshold energy of the final state.

Correlative multielectron processes in K-shell photoionization of Ca, Ti and V in the energy range of 8-35 keV

- The Kalpha satellite spectra arising from the correlative multielectron processes accompanying K-shell photoionization of Ca, Ti and V were measured using a broad range crystal spectrometer. Multiconfiguration Dirac-Fock calculations were performed to interpret the observed,x-ray energies and the spectral line shape., The calculations agree fairly well with the experimental results. The variation of the KalphaL(1) satellite and the Kalpha(1,2)(h) hypersatellite intensities was measured as a function, of excitation energy in the range of 8-35 keV. The KalphaL(1)/Kalpha(1,2) intensity ratio for each,element is already saturated in our energy range, and the asymptotic values of 1.58 +/- 0.08, 1.26 +/- 0.06 and 0.97 +/- 0.05% for Ca, Ti. and V were determined. By combining the present results and the previously measured values for various elements, we have found a Z(-3.5) scaling law for the KalphaL(1)/Kalpha(1,2) intensity ratio, The measured Kalpha(1,2)(h)/Kalpha(1,2) for each element, is found to increase smoothly from its onset and shows a long saturation range extending up to at least 25 keV above the threshold for Ti. The evolution of the Kalpha(1,2)(h)/Kalpha(1,2) intensity ratio is compared with the analytic Thomas model and with the theoretical calculation based on the screened hydrogenic model.

This is followed by an introduction to some of the frontier physics problems of highly charged ions that can be studied with such devices. Also a discussion of the use of EBITs as a powerful tool in hot-plasma diagnostics is presented.

- Electroacupuncture has been shown to promote remyelination in a demyelinating model of multiple sclerosis (MS) through enhanced microglial clearance of degraded myelin debris. However, the mechanisms involved in this process are yet to be clearly elucidated. It has been revealed that TAM receptor tyrosine kinases (Tyro3, Axl, and MerTK) play pivotal roles in regulating multiple features of microglia, including the phagocytic function and myelin clearance. Therefore, the aim of this study is to further confirm whether electroacupuncture improves functional recovery in this model and to characterise the involvement of the TAM receptor during this process. In addition to naive control mice, a cuprizone-induced demyelinating model was established, and long-term electroacupuncture treatment was administrated. To evaluate the efficiency of functional recovery following demyelination, we performed beam-walking test and rotarod performance test; to objectify the degree of remyelination, we performed transmission electron microscopy and protein quantification of mature oligodendrocyte markers. Oil Red O staining was used to evaluate the deposit of myelin debris. We confirmed that, in cuprizone-treated mice, electroacupuncture significantly ameliorates motor-coordinative dysfunction and counteracts demyelinating processes, with less deposit of myelin debris accumulating in the corpus callosum. Surprisingly, mRNA expression of TAM receptors was significantly upregulated after electroacupuncture treatment, and we further confirmed an increased protein expression of Axl and MerTK after electroacupuncture treatment, indicating their involvement during electroacupuncture treatment. Finally, LDC1267, a selective TAM kinase inhibitor, abolished the therapeutic effect of electroacupuncture on motor-coordinative dysfunction. Overall, our data demonstrate that electroacupuncture could mitigate the progression of demyelination by enhancing the TAM receptor expression to facilitate the clearance of myelin debris. Our results also suggest that electroacupuncture may be a potential curative treatment for MS patients.
