  • Self-pierce riveting through 3 sheet metal combinations
  • 2011
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • One way to reduce the CO2 emissions in automotives is to reduce the weight of the Body-In-White. One easy to achieve the weight reduction is to replace steel sheet materials with Al alloys, which is 3 times lighter. One issue is the joining process, especially with combinations between steel grades and AL alloys. Example of combination of mixed material combinations (Al-steel) might be found in the door structure. The reason is because of the AL alloys worthier crash performance so the automotive manufacturer might want to use crash impact beams made by high strength steels in a AL intensive door structure. The joining process between aluminum and steel are problematic due it's not possible to use traditional spot-welding technologies due to the materials total difference in microstructure characteristics as well thermal properties. To overcome this issue then mechanical as well adhesion joining are frequently used. This paper describes a development process and subsequently analysis of a self-pierce rivet (SPR) process between 3 sheet metal combinations. The multi-material combinations in this study were a combination of ultra high strength steels sheets (DP1000) and a Al-alloy (AA 6014). The analysis of the SPR process, in sense of mechanical strengths, has been done by peel-and shear tests. To reduce the amount of future physical tests a virtual FE-model has been developed for the process. This FE model of the process has been subsequently used to analyze the mechanical strength during plastic deformation. By using inverse analysis a correct contact algorithm has been evaluated that would predict the binding force between the rivet and sheet under a deformation process. With this new virtual model it will not only possible to analyze and develop the SPR process but also to achieve the final strength of the joint. © 2011 American Institute of Physics.

  • Cognitive Hearing Aids? - Insights and Possibilities
  • 2015
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The working memory plays an important role in successfully overcoming adverse listening conditions and should consequently be considered when designing and testing hearing aids. A number of studies have established the relationship between hearing in noise and working memory involvement, but with the Sentence-final Word Identification and Recall (SWIRL) test, it is possible to show that working memory is also involved in listening under favorable conditions and that noise reduction has a positive influence in situation with very little noise. Although the capacity of the working memory is a finite individual size, its involvement can differ with fatigue and other factors and individualization of hearing aids should take this into account to obtain the best performance. A way of individually adapting hearing aids is based on changes in the electrical activity of the brain (EEG). Here we present the possibilities that arise from using EEG and show that ear-mounted electrodes is able to record useful EEG that can be explored for individualization of hearing aids. Such an adaptation could be done based on changes in the electrical activity of the brain (EEG). Here we present the possibilities that arise from using EEG and show that ear-mounted electrodes is able to record useful EEG that can be explored for individualization of hearing aids.

  • Electronic and optical properties of TiO2
  • 2005
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The electronic and optical properties of the rutile titanium dioxide compound have been investigated experimentally by absorption measurements and theoretically by a full-potential linearized augmented plane wave (FPLAPW) method within the local density approximation (LDA). The thin films for the absorption measurements were prepared by DC magnetron sputtering. The theoretical results for the absorption compared qualitatively well with the experimental findings. The dielectric functions and band-structure have also been calculated, and the LDA band-gap energy is corrected by an on-site Coulomb potential.

  • Towards 10-nm Soft X-Ray Zone Plate Fabrication
  • 2011
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper the latest efforts to improve our nanofabrication process for soft x‐ray zone plates is presented. The resolving power, which is proportional to the smallest outermost zone width of the zone plate, is increased by introducing cold development of the electron beam resist that is used for the patterning. With this process we have fabricated Ni zone plates with 13‐nm outermost zone and shown potential for making 11‐nm half‐pitch lines in the electron beam resist. Maintaining the diffraction efficiency of the zone plate is a great concern when the outermost zone width is decreased. To resolve this problem we have developed the so‐called Ni‐Ge zone plate in which the zone plate is build up by Ni and Ge, resulting in an increase of the diffraction efficiency. In a proof‐of‐principle experiment with 25‐nm Ni‐Ge zone plates, we have shown a doubling of the diffraction efficiency. When combined with cold development, the Ni‐Ge process has been shown to work down to 16‐nm half‐pitch. It is plausible that further refinement of the process will make it possible to go to 10‐nm outermost zone widths.

  • Study of high-spin states in 48Ca region induced by secondary fusion reactions
  • 2005
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A new method of in-beam gamma-ray spectroscopy induced by secondary fusion reactions, 37P+9Be and 46Ar+9Be is presented. Low-energy secondary beams of 37P and 46Ar ions of ∼5 MeV/A were developed in order to induce fusion evaporation reactions. Excited states of nuclei in the vicinity of 48Ca, 49-52Ti and 46Ca, were studied by the method as well as β decay of the secondary beam 46Ar. Gamma-gamma coincidence and excitation function analysis were performed to study high-spin states of Ti isotopes.

  • New frontiers in advanced plasma physics : Proceedings of the 2010 ICTP International Advanced Workshop on the Frontiers of Plasma Physics
  • 2010
  • Proceedings (redaktörskap) (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The main focus of the workshop was on tokamak physics and magnetic confinement fusion, plasma turbulence, dusty plasmas, intense laser-plasma interactions, plasma based particle acceleration, and quantum plasmas including quantum electrodynamic effects. The aim of the workshop was also to provide training for young scientists from all over the world, mainly from third world countries, and to give them the opportunity to interact with the senior scientists in an informal manner. A selected number of papers by the invited speakers appears in this book.

  • Splitting of close N-€Al donor-€acceptor-€pair spectra in 3C-€SiC
  • 2010
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Discrete series of lines have been observed for many years in N‐Al DAP (Donor Acceptor Pair) spectra in 3C‐SiC. Unfortunately, up to now, there has been no quantitative analysis for the splitting of lines in a given shell. This is done in this work for N‐Al DAP spectra in 3C‐SiC. The samples were non‐intentionally doped 3C‐SiC layers grown by CVD on a VLS seeding layer grown on a 6H‐SiC substrate. From low temperature photoluminescence measurements, strong N‐Al DAP emission bands were observed and, on the high energy side of the zero‐phonon line, we could resolve a series of discrete lines coming from close pairs. Comparing with literature data, we show that the splitting energy for a given shell is constant and, to explain this shell substructure, we consider the non equivalent sets of sites for a given shell. Results are discussed in terms of the ion‐ion interaction containing third and forth multipole terms.

  • Modeling of ray splitting in a tokamak
  • 2005
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We summarize recent progress toward developing a practical ray-tracing algorithm that includes linear mode conversion, for realistic tokamak geometry. The goal of this code development project is to create new and easy-to-use numerical ray-tracing tools for the study of RF heating and current drive. After a brief summmary of our recent results, a series of figures showing mode conversion in tokamak geometry is presented, emphasizing the effect of poloidal magnetic field.
