  • Continued HSPA Evolution of Mobile Broadband
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Ericsson review (English ed.). - 0014-0171. ; 86:1, s. 7-11
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The telecommunication industry is capitalizing on continuous evolution of the HSPA (high speed packet access) broadband technology, which is implemented in the form of 3GPP Release 7, 8, and 9. The novel solutions effectively meets the increased demands for higher data rates and greater cell capacity driven by the success of the mobile broadband. The HSPA 3GPP Release 7 supports the higher order modulation, multiple input, multiple output (MIMO) technology in the downlink, data rates of up to 28Mbps in the downlink, and 11.5 Mbps in the uplinks. The features of HSGPA 3GPP Release 8 include multicarrier operation, higher order modulation combined with MIMO, and enhancements to common states, and integrated mobile broadcast. The technology facilitates the existing WCDMA operators a cost-effective way of broadcasting data through 5MHz of unpaired spectrum. The ongoing works to standardization 3GPP Release 9 focuses on the support of features that further increases bit rates.

  • AI-enabled RAN automation
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Ericsson Technology Review. - Stockholm. - 0014-0171. ; 10
  • Tidskriftsartikel (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • Communication service providers need a greater degree of RAN automation to cope with the increasingly advanced RAN. Getting there will require an increased use of artificial intelligence and machine-learning techniques.A significant and growing portion of communication service providers’ (CSPs) opex relates to the manual tuning of algorithms in RANs that do not exploit the full potential of the networks in the field. As 5G and cloud-native RAN implementations continue, the skill level needed to operate the RAN will continue to rise. Our AI-centered approach to RAN automation is designed to overcome both of these challenges.

  • Blind cache : A solution to content delivery challenges in an all-encrypted web
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Ericsson Technology Review. - : Telefonaktiebolaget L.M. Ericsson. - 0014-0171. ; 94:1, s. 8-19
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • As the internet has shifted from an informal network for information sharing among universities and scientific institutes to a fundament of modern commerce, the traffic it carries has also shifted from short message exchanges to massive files encrypted for protection. At one time, the use of the secure communication protocol https tended to be limited to applications such as internet banking and online shopping. By the end of 2016, however, 70 percent of web traffic will use https [1]. Encryption is likely to become mandatory everywhere as the rise in pervasive surveillance has changed public perception on privacy and internet security, which has in turn prompted internet content providers to adopt https to protect consumers' content consumption data. The shift to pervasive encryption brings many benefits, but it also presents significant challenges for network service providers (such as mobile network operators and internet service providers) - particularly when it comes to caching content in their networks.

  • Wireless ad hoc networking—The art of networking without a network
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Ericsson review (English ed.). - 0014-0171. ; :04, s. 248-263
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Today, many people carry numerous portable devices, such as laptops, mobile phones, PDAs and mp3 players, for use in their professional andprivate lives. For the most part, these devices are used separatelyÑthatis, their applications do not interact. Imagine, however, if they could inter-act directly: participants at a meeting could share documents or presenta-tions; business cards would automatically find their way into the addressregister on a laptop and the number register on a mobile phone; as com-muters exit a train, their laptops could remain online; likewise, incoming e-mail could now be diverted to their PDAs; finally, as they enter the office, all communication could automatically be routed through the wirelesscorporate campus network. These examples of spontaneous, ad hoc wireless communicationbetween devices might be loosely defined as a scheme, often referred toas ad hoc networking, which allows devices to establish communication, anytime and anywhere without the aid of a central infrastructure. Actually,ad hoc networking as such is not new, but the setting, usage and playersare. In the past, the notion of ad hoc networks was often associated withcommunication on combat fields and at the site of a disaster area; now,as novel technologies such as Bluetooth materialize, the scenario of adhoc networking is likely to change, as is its importance. In this article, the authors describe the concept of ad hoc networkingby giving its background and presenting some of the technical challengesit poses. The authors also point out some of the applications that can beenvisioned for ad hoc networking

  • Sustaining Legitimacy and Trust in a Data-Driven Society
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Ericsson Technology Review. - 0014-0171. ; 94, s. 40-49
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Securing the continued growth of the digital economy will largely depend on how we manage consumer data, and which operators and tools we use to moderate, analyze and trade that data, according to guest author Stefan Larsson of Lund University Internet Institute. If users were to begin to perceive the collection and handling of their personal data as illegitimate, he argues, their trust in digital services would almost certainly decline, which would have a significant negative impact on service providers and the digital economy as a whole.

  • Converged TV
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Ericsson review (English ed.). - 0014-0171. ; 86:2, s. 17-21
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The CTV prototype has demonstrated the live TV and VoD services provided to multiple devices connected to the same application platform. The prototype proves the feasibility of building an open-standards-based converged TV solution on existing network and service layer products. The generation networks include the ETSI TISPAN and IPTV solutions in the Open IPTV Forum (OIPF), wherein network operators, the consumer electronics (CE) industry, and network equipment vendors are jointly defining technical specifications for multi-access, multidevice IPTV solutions. Operators are increasingly bundling voice, broadband data, and TV services into triple- and quadruple-play packages to create attractive offerings. The CTV prototype realizes a select set of use cases from the OIPF R2 requirements, that can be demonstrated by all three devices. The implemented cases also prove that using multiple types of devices in a TV solution adds user value.
