  • Enjoying work or Burdened by it? : How personal Assistants Experience and Handle Stress at Work
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Journal of Social Work in Disability & Rehabilitation. - : Routledge. - 1536-710X .- 1536-7118. ; 11:2, s. 112-127
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A personal assistant has to promote equality in living conditions for persons with severe disabilities. The aim of this study was to explore how personal assistants experience their work and what strategies they employ to alleviate work-related stress. Thirty personal assistants were interviewed and latent content analysis was performed. The findings regarding the experiences of work-related stress could be brought together under the theme of “difficulties of being in a subordinate position,” and those regarding management strategies could be brought together under the theme of “coming to terms with the work situation.” There is a need to empower personal assistants through training programs including tailored education, working communities, and coaching.

  • Parents' Stress and Coping Related to Children's Use of a Cochlear Implant : A Qualitative Study
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Journal of Social Work in Disability & Rehabilitation. - 1536-710X .- 1536-7118. ; 15:2, s. 150-167
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aim was to increase understanding of parents' experiences of having a child with cochlear implant (CI) and to explore how these related to children's use of CI. Twelve parents of children, full-time users or limited users of CI, participated in the study. Qualitative content analysis showed that the parents of children who used their CI differed from the parents with limited users in how they handled stressors. Support from health care professionals was seen as insufficient. Parents need to get involved in dynamic processes, where health care resources promote parental coping.

A case study was conducted. Thirty-five informants participated. Qualitative interviews were undertaken. Results are discussed on how to address different dimensions of choice, not only where, but also what, by whom, how much, and when. They also concern how to design systems that in some ways ensure predictability and continuity to avoid unwanted harm caused by the unpredictability embedded in competitive choice systems. Finally, different aspects of quality need to be addressed.

  • 2010

The aim of this article is to illustrate how the organizational settings reflect different goals and aims at the political and artistic levels. The authors will also address the relationship between the theaters and the public opinion and media. Finally, they will illustrate in what way organization, recognition, and public approval play an important role for the actors' identity formation and sense of belonging.

  • Establishment of community mental health systems in a post-deinstitutional era : a study of organisational structures and service provision in Sweden
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Journal of Social Work in Disability & Rehabilitation. - : Taylor & Francis Group. - 1536-710X .- 1536-7118. ; 14:2, s. 124-144
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article analyses the state of community mental health services for people with psychiatric disabilities and the interplay between policy level and conditions that the local service providers are facing. The study is based on document analysis and interviews with stakeholders in ten Swedish municipalities. The results show how systems are slow to change and are closely linked to local traditions. The services are often delivered in closed settings, and the organisations struggle to meet the needs of a new generation of users. There is a gap between local systems and national policies because the latter pays attention to the attributes of a recovery approach.

Within each theme, multiple dimensions were identified, reflecting the complexity of vocational rehabilitation following acquired brain injury. Commitment built on social relations is linked to sustainability of support. The included support persons' role was especially valuable in contexts where adaptation and cooperation were required.
