  • Challenges for heart failure patients’ self-care systems – analysis of patients’ needs
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Procedia Technology. - : Elsevier. - 2212-0173. ; 16, s. 1256-1264, s. 1256-1264
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Self-care is important for heart failure patients. However, what are the views of patients on their situation when it comes to realizing self-care? The aim of the paper is to investigate the self-care needs of HF patients, by understanding the issues they embrace in their self-care processes. In this paper we make a review of 17 interviews and make a classification of what the needs are for possible information technology support systems. Based on the analysis of these interviews, we identify the diversity of needs in support of activities related to different background conditions and the dynamics of change of learning and changes in the heart failure condition. The contribution of the paper is a framework for understanding the diversity of needs and the specific situations of this group of patients.

  • Acceleration based Activity Levels during Subacute Inpatient Stroke Rehabilitation
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Procedia Technology. - : Elsevier BV. - 2212-0173. ; 27, s. 120-121
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • People after stroke have difficulties to reach sufficient physical activity level during their rehabilitation and particularly outside the therapy time. We aim to quantify activity levels and investigate differences in motor activity in weekdays and weekends in a subacute stage after stroke. Data from multiple three-axis accelerometers was collected during two 48h sessions in 11 patients. The activity level and symmetry indices were sensitive to variations in weekend and weekdays. This information is valuable in rehabilitation planning and management and enables identification of those in risk of low physical activity and inactivity. (C) 2017 The Authors. Published by Elsevier

  • Selection method for COTS systems
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Procedia Technology. - : Elsevier BV. - 2212-0173. ; 16, s. 301-309, s. 301-309
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Historically, organizations developed their information systems in-house. Today, a large portion of information systems development is based on the acquisition of pre-made information systems, so-called commercially off-the-shelf (COTS) systems. This approach for developing information systems requires new skills and methods supporting the process of evaluating and selecting information systems. This paper presents a method for selecting COTS systems. The method includes the following phases: problem framing, requirements and appraisal, and selection of systems. The idea and distinguishing feature behind the method is that improved understanding of organizational ‘ends’ or goals should govern the selection of a COTS system. This can also be expressed as a match or fit between ‘ends’ (e.g. improved organizational effectiveness) and ‘means’ (e.g. implementing COTS systems). This way of approaching the selection of COTS systems as viewing them as a ‘means’ to reach organizational ‘ends’ is different from the mainstream views of information systems development, namely the view that sees information systems development as a problem-solving process, and the underlying ontological view in other COTS selection methods, which focus on selection of functionality not reaching organizational ends.

  • ERP and Big Data: The Inept Couple
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Procedia Technology. - : Elsevier BV. - 2212-0173. ; 16, s. 242-249
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The world is witnessing an unprecedented interest in big data. Big data is data that is big in size (volume), big in variety (structured; semi-structured; unstructured), and big in speed of change (velocity). It was reported that almost 90% of the data worldwide was just created in the past 2 years. Therefore, this paper is an attempt to align ERP systems with big data. The objective is to suggest a future research agenda to bring together big data and ERP. While almost everyone is talking about big data at the product or tool level, relationship with social media, relationship with Internet of things, etc. no one has tried to integrate big data and ERP. A research agenda is discussed and introduced in this paper.

  • The Future of ERP Systems : look backward before moving forward
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Procedia Technology. - : Elsevier BV. - 2212-0173. ; 5, s. 21-30
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper explores the enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems literature in an attempt to elucidate knowledge to help us see the future of ERP systems' research. The main purpose of this research is to study the development of ERP systems and other related areas in order to reach the constructs of mainstream literature. The analysis of literature has helped us to reach the key constructs of an as-is scenario, those are: history and development of ERP systems, the implementation life cycle, critical success factors and project management, and benefits and costs. However, the to-be scenario calls for more up-to-date research constructs of ERP systems integrating the following constructs: social networks, cloud computing, enterprise 2.0, and decision 2.0. In the end, the conclusion section will establish the link between the as-is and to-be scenarios opening the door for more novel ERP research areas

  • The impact of ERP partnership formation regulations on the failure of ERP implementations
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Procedia Technology. - : Elsevier BV. - 2212-0173. ; 9, s. 527-535
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • According to statistics, majority of ERP implementations fail. Failure means either total cancellation of the project, or failure to go-live on time and/or within budget constraints. Mainstream literature focuses on different reasons for failure including poor project management, resistance to change, lack of top management support, insufficient user training, etc. In this research we focus on the impact of vendor-partner relationship on the failure of ERP implementations. Some vendors provide easy terms and conditions in order to attract new partners and develop a wider network of partners in the targeted regions. In this study, the terms and conditions of SAP for certifying partners are studies and analyzed. In addition, case studies of two SAP partners are conducted. The primary research results suggest that the easy partnership conditions set by ERP vendors are among the main contributing factors for ERP projects failure in our cases. This finding is considered novel since most of the related work attributes failures to other factors, ignoring the vendor-partner terms and conditions.

  • ERP Selection: The SMART Way
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Procedia Technology. - : Elsevier BV. - 2212-0173. ; 16, s. 394-403
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems implementation projects are challenging and resource consuming. There are several phases in the ERP implementation process. One of the earliest and most critical phases is the ERP selection phase. If an organization selects an inadequate ERP to fit their needs, the project will most likely destine to fail. Research and practice have provided several cases of ERP project failures because of a faulty selection process. No matter what amendments the adopting company undertakes in the later phases, if there is no fit, there is no success. This research, presents an explanatory case study, which employed a simple multi-attribute rating technique (SMART)-based ERP selection method. The selection method was mainly based on developing process maps for all the critical business processes inside the organization, and then checking the degree of compliance of the potential ERP packages with those developed process maps. In addition, other factors were also included in the ERP evaluation and selection process. As the ERP was assured to be matching the business requirements, the method and the selection factors have been proven adequate for the selection process. In addition, this minimizes the risk of a non-fitting ERP system and consequent project failures.

  • Requirement Specification in Government IT Procurement
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Procedia Technology. - : Elsevier BV. - 2212-0173. ; 5:(2012), s. 369-377
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • IT procurement represents a business process of importance, including the ability to articulate requirements that the procurement deals with. Furthermore, specifying requirements is of importance for both procurer, and potential supplier as it functions as central contractual element between the two. The purpose of the article is to show how functional and non-functional requirements are represented in current call for bids for the procurement of IT. 11 ‘call for bids’ were examined from a Swedish national procurement database. From the analysis of the bids, it can be concluded that the call for bids displays fuzziness in making a clear distinction between functional and non-functional requirements. From the discussion on this, a tentative procurement framework is suggested, aiming on increasing the logical transparency for the procurement of IT.

  • A Framework for IT Project Development in a Large Company
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Procedia Technology. - : Elsevier BV. - 2212-0173. ; 9, s. 687-696
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • IT project development is a crucial point for the success of any IT organization however delays and increasing costs jeopardize the fulfillment of the business goals. Different research studies on IT project development process confirm that one individual framework is not appropriate for all types of applications. However, reality shows that many companies choose frameworks to run their IT projects based on project type and face dissimilar problems during the execution. In this research we are presenting a framework for IT project development in a large company. The framework has been developed to improve the project IT development due to the fact that many projects have failed to deliver within defined time, cost and quality. In the large company part of our study (entitled in the paper company A) the results of IT projects success rate was significantly low. Therefore, an analysis has been done to investigate the causes for not meeting the requirements. To develop the framework we have used design science research and we have evaluated this framework within company A with project managers. The novelty in this research is that the developed framework for IT project development is based on generic Capability Maturity Model and adapted to the specific needs. The result could be applied to other large companies with similar IT needs and environment.

  • Development of a plastic membrane containing micro-hole(s) for a potential bio-sensing application
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Procedia Technology. - : Elsevier. - 2212-0173. ; 27:Special Issue Biosensors 2016, s. 252-253
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this work, a poly (methyl methacrylate) membrane containing micro-holes (MHs) as a prototype of a simple sensing platform of a lab-on-a-chip device has been developed for a potential analysis of clinical fluidic samples. A four probe electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) setup, with two electrodes placed on each side of the membrane, was adopted for monitoring the MH impedance (Fig. 1a). The setup was used to investigate, if EIS is suitable to sense the trapping of an analyte inside the MHs. Latex micro-beads with a diameter of 10 mu m were used to test clogging of the MHs. Additionally, finite element model simulations were performed using Comsol Multiphysics software to theoretically evaluate the sensitivity field of the EIS measurement along the MHs. • A Biosensing Strategy for Fast Profiling of Antibiotic Resistance
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Procedia Technology. - : Elsevier BV. - 2212-0173. ; 27, s. 33-34
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Antibiotic resistance threatens global public health. Clinical methods that simplify and accelerate resistance diagnosis are urgently needed. Here we describe a function-based antibiotic resistance detection and classification strategy to improve diagnosis. The method identifies resistance enzymes by directly measuring the thermal signal generated when an antibiotic i enzymatically degraded. A substrate specificity profile is created by analyzing a panel of antibiotics. Here we show proof of principle by differentiating two antibiotic resistance enzymes based on their substrate specificities profiles. The method provides a fast, simple, cost effective alternative for diagnosing and classifying antibiotic resistance.

  • Cloud Sourcing – Next Generation Outsourcing?
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Procedia Technology. - : Elsevier BV. - 2212-0173. ; 16, s. 553-561
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Although Cloud Sourcing has been around for some time it could be questioned what actually is known about it. This paper presents a literature review on the specific question if Cloud Sourcing could be seen as the next generation of outsourcing. The reason for doing this is that from an initial sourcing study we found that the sourcing decisions seems to go in the direction of outsourcing as a service which could be described as Cloud Sourcing. Whereas some are convinced that Cloud Sourcing reduces cost and complexity in advantage for increased labor productivity, others maintain that the negotiation with the cloud provider is crucial to ensure data privacy, security regulations, compliance, standards, tolerance for risk, governance and service level agreements. The purpose of this paper is to investigate whether the debate on Cloud Sourcing in the top IS conferences and AIS basket of 8 journals goes in the direction of Cloud Sourcing being the future of sourcing as practice predicts, and to identify the space for the development of this research. An introductory literature review showed that there is not much written about Cloud Sourcing as an alternative for outsourcing albeit it seems to have a great potential.

  • Defining the ERP and CRM Integrative Value
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Procedia Technology. - : Elsevier BV. - 2212-0173. ; 16, s. 704-709
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The value of IT adoption has been and still is a crucial question for the decision on IT adoption. In this paper we suggest a research model that aims at defining the integrative value of adoption of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems. The integrative value is described from the Resource Based View of the firm (RBV) and will be measured as impact on firm performance. The research model suggests six hypotheses that will be tested and analysed with data from a questionnaire among firms that have adopted both ERP and CRM systems in their organization. Due to the nature of the research model and the fact that it has not been tested in the past, the data analysis will be supported by Partial Least Squares (PLS. Our aim with this research project is that it will provide new knowledge on how integration between systems can positively influence value from IT investments, but also how different software such as ERP and CRM provides value to systems integration as well as process integration.

  • Determinants that Influence ERP Use and Value: Cross-Country Evidence on Scandinavian and Iberian SMEs
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Procedia Technology. - : Elsevier BV. - 2212-0173. ; 5:(2012), s. 354-362
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Enterprise resource planning (ERP) use and ERP value are of high interest among both academia's as well as practitioners. Despite different views of gained value from implemented ERP, there are some studies focusing in larger companies, however, few studies report on challenges experienced by Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs). Based on diffusion of innovation (DOI) literature and resource-based view (RBV) theory, we explore the reasons for ERP post-adoption through a research model. From a large scale web-survey, a partial least squares (PLS) was conducted to empirically assess nine hypotheses. Findings are that best-practices and competitive pressure influence most ERP use and, analytics and collaboration influence ERP value. Indicating, that ERPs are not only been used as a transaction processing system but also as front-end applications in SMEs. This is the first study that explores differences and similarities across Scandinavian and Iberian SMEs in regards to ERP use and ‘ERP value’.

  • The dynamics of viscoelastic layered systems studied by surface acoustic wave (SAW) sensors operated in a liquid phase
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Procedia Technology. - : Elsevier BV. - 2212-0173. ; 27, s. 102-103
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We theoretically study a three-layer continuum model of a surface acoustic wave sensor where the two overlayers are allowed to be viscoelastic. This case is particularly important in biosensing, where soft materials submerged in fluids are commonplace. From the general dispersion equation, we calculate the phase velocity shift and the wave attenuation. We show that there is a viscoelastic coupling between the overlayers which results in unintuitive behavior, e.g., the addition of viscous loading to a soft-film sensor can reduce the attenuation.

  • How Accurate are Pedometer Cell Phone Applications?
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Procedia Technology. - : Elsevier BV. - 2212-0173. ; 5, s. 787-792
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Accurate pedometers are useful tools to motivate and estimate physical activity. There are today free pedometer applications available for download to cell phones, thus enabling measurements by a device already worn. It is important to evaluate their accuracy and appropriate ways to wear the cell phone when using pedometer applications. The aim of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of six different free pedometer applications for three different cell phones, worn at three different cell phone positions. 10 test persons performed test sequences of 200 steps with each application, cell phone, and cell phone position. Only one application and cell phone combination showed a good accuracy with reasonable low standard deviation, especially in one of the cell phone positions. The majority of applications evaluated in this study, did not show high accuracy. There is a need of further evaluation of pedometer cell phone applications.
