- Recently, in the election that took place in the United States, we have heard a lot about "fake news" and their influence. The discourse of “fake news” and “alternative facts” points to the importance of information literacy. The objective of the panel is to bring together experts from different countries to discuss how they perceive the future of information literacy (IL). The question that arises is will IL be the sole focus of librarians, information professionals, and educators, or will it be regarded as a lifelong learning skill that affects different aspects of our everyday life such as health, workplace, and even culture? The session will begin with a short overview of the recent literature on this issue, followed by the panellists’ findings and examples of research projects, as well as their insights about new approaches in the area of IL. The panel will conclude with an engaging discussion with the audience to identify future trends in IL.

In order to meet the need for theory, the four panelists will offer four distinct possibilities for theoretical frameworks. While the four frameworks are able to stand alone, there is also the likelihood that they might be melded together in order to form an even richer and more robust underpinning for the work of information literacy and instruction. This panel fills a need that has heretofore been found wanting in the topic.

Exploring the Effect of Rational Factors and Trust in Health Behavior Change

- This study examines how rational factors and trust modify health behaviors and various stages of trust mediate the rational factors in behavior changing through four stages of it. By integrating factors of Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and various stages of trust, a health behavior change framework was proposed. Quantitative data on TPB, trust and behavior change were collected from Chinese youths through online survey. Structural Equation Model (SEM) was applied to analyze the data from 448 valid questionnaires to verify it. The findings show: Both TPB and trust constructs have significant impacts on modifying health behavior change; Trust mediates the effect of perceived behavioral control on health behavior change, while the stages of site content evaluation and longer-term engagement of trust act as partial mediators; Relationships existed between TPB factors and trust stages. This study advances the understanding of health behavior change with regards to rational factors and trust stages and provides implications for stakeholders.

- Older peoples usage of mobile devices is increasing. This study is part of the GASEL project and seeks to increase the understanding of the use of mobile information technology and opinions towards it. Opinions are compared between genders and age groups. The population based data were collected by conducting a questionnaire survey. A random sample of 1,500 adults 65 years of age or older was obtained from the Finnish Population Register Centre. The number of respondents was 918 with a response rate of 61.2 %. About one fifth (n=169) had used a tablet computer and approximately one third (n=226) had used a mobile phone with a touch screen in the past 12 months without encountering major difficulties. The respondents had mostly thought that using the devices would not be easy. They had also thought that the usage would not be too expensive for them. Men and younger old people held more positive opinions towards these new technologies. Older people are slower in adapting and accepting new technologies and this should be taken into account when designing services, applications and content, as these technologies have the potential to enrichen the lives of this specific population group.

- Despite older adults being one of the most important groups of users of eHealth services, including patient accessible electronic health records, these are claimed to not be designed to suit older users, and to not necessarily fulfill their information needs. User-centered design methods often utilized when developing eHealth services have also been claimed to not work well for older adults. This paper suggests an alternative way of collecting ideas and feedback on eHealth from older adults, by including open-ended questions in the data collection of larger studies on eHealth information behavior. When data are collected by methods like focus group interviews and surveys, older adults can be requested to envision an eHealth service that suits their needs. Results from studies in Finland are presented, and show that current eHealth services do not fulfill all information needs of older adults, as answers to the question in both focus group interviews and surveys contain practical suggestions for additional and more comprehensible information, easier ways of searching for needed information, and alternative channels for communication. Open-ended questions can be a cost-effective and timesaving way to help in the design and development of patient accessible electronic health records and other types of eHealth services.

- Translational research converts research knowledge into practical wisdom for a community (What is Translational Research, n.d.). Storytelling for translational research means that the researcher knows the audience, crafts a narrative, sticks to the plot, and imparts wisdom in a meaningful way – all elements of a good story from a good storyteller. In this hybrid panel and workshop, led by Stephann Makri and other members of the ASIS&T Research Engagement Committee, our successful researchers/storytellers will illustrate how a good translational research impact story is structured. Then, our storytelling experts will help participants craft their own research narratives to put translational research storytelling into practice for their own research stories. Dr. Kate McDowell, panelist and storytelling expert, teaches both storytelling and data storytelling courses, and is the 2022 recipient of the ASIS&T Outstanding Information Science Teacher Award. She states: “When research successfully translates into legislative or policy changes, it always comes down to a shared narrative experience. The story emerges in the dynamic interaction between the teller and the audience.” The aim of this session is to create confident storytellers.

- An interview study of (N=) 16 senior researchers at a major Canadian research university shows that researchers use a broad range of means to share information about research process, methods and design to different audiences. The purpose of sharing information on these aspects of research is to enable redoing and replicating earlier studies, to preserve knowledge of how studies were conducted, to understand data, and because of the social pressure to share. Time as a barrier and distance to overcome, disciplinary and contextual variation have a major impact on sharing. In the light of the findings, a one size fits all approach is unlikely to succeed. It is critical to choose appropriate methods that help to focus on what is relevant to share in particular disciplinary contexts, and for specific audiences and goals of transparency.

- The workshop brings together differing perspectives on what makes research data possible. How data is made represents an on-going negotiation between a number of elements. It reflects, firstly, the nature of disciplines and the complex way this is linked to cultures of research data and data sharing. Secondly, data is made across the complex temporalities within different practices of its management. Thirdly, it increasingly reflects the influences of data policies: working at the international and national, down to institutional level. Fourthly, it is also shaped by the renegotiation of professional interests and relationships such as between librarians, computing services, archivists and research administrators. And, fifthly, data is being shaped within models of education and training of current and new information professionals. The panel seeks to bring together a diverse range of participants to explore appropriate theories and methodologies for work in this field, using a conversation cafe format, and based on discussions around the five elements.

- In an era of information overload, people often work together on information‐intensive projects. Group holidaying is such an example where people plan and conduct trips together. In this poster paper we present preliminary findings from an ongoing investigation of collaborative information behaviour of group holidaymakers. Through a grounded‐theory approach, preliminary findings show that not all members of the travel group engage equally in the information search. A role labelled “active followers” is identified and the role‐taker's contribution to the group's information seeking and decision‐making is discussed. This paper calls for attention to heterogeneity within collaborating groups and invites further discussion of research into this topic in information science community.

- Reaction video, a new form of online video that records users' instant reactions to a particular thing, has emerged on social media in recent years. Its unique content composition and hedonic and emotional characteristics make the information cues that influence the affective generation in danmaku comments quite different from those in traditional videos. To explore the information cues of danmaku comments to stimulate users’ affective generation in reaction videos, we conduct thematic coding using the content analysis method by selecting the danmaku resources, video content, and reactors’ responses from 11 popular videos in different categories as samples to identify information cues that influence user affects in danmaku comments. The preliminary findings show that there are three main types of information cues in the reaction videos: the content of the original video, reactors’ reaction and danmaku comments, which could trigger danmaku users’ affect in reaction videos from the perspective of orientation type, parasocial interaction, and peer influence, respectively.

- As advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) technology have opened new avenues for artistic expression and creation, human-AI collaboration in creative activities has garnered increasing attention. Through semi-structured interviews with 15 participants, we investigate the intrinsic and extrinsic factors that motivate laypeople's engagement with AI painting, as well as challenges and concerns faced by users. Our findings reveal that laypeople engage with AI painting for emotional needs like entertainment, aesthetics, surprise, and curiosity, personal utilitarian needs such as self-expression and customization, and social interaction through sharing and communication. Despite the appeal of novelty and unpredictability they also encountered challenges related to technical and system functionality, personal and environmental factors, as well as concerns about algorithm bias, pornography misuse, employment risks, copyright disputes and ethical implications. Findings provide preliminary evidence of the potential and limitations of AI in democratizing creative activities, and offer implications for designing and developing of AI assistance tools.
