  • Modes of engagement in SSBA : A service dominant logic perspective
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: AMCIS 2019 Proceedings. - 9780996683180
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The main premise of self-service business analytics (SSBA) is to make business users autonomous during data analytics. Driven by this potential, organizations are spending resources to design SSBA environmet to empower business employees and decentralize the analytics capabilities. Yet, little is known about how SSBA is facilitating business employees’ independence, and moreover, the value that is co-created. Based on empirical data from a major Norwegian online marketplace and drawing on service-dominant logic as an analytical framework, we identify three main modes of data engagement in SSBA: no dependency, high dependency, and low dependency. Furthermore, we identify the required business users’ resources in the analytical processes in each mode. We discuss the organizational implications of these findings.

  • The Influence of Cultural Values on Organizational Agility
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: AMCIS 2019 Proceedings. - : Association for Information Systems. - 9780996683180 ; , s. 1-10
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Organizational agility, a firm’s ability to manage dynamic change, has become strategically important for companies in their innovation work. In this context cultural aspects are especially important, as they can both support and hamper organizational agility. Differences can generate innovation ability but they can also create conflicts between competing value systems, thus reducing the firm’s ability to develop organizational agility to support innovation processes. We conducted a comparative study in incumbent firms and startups in the automotive industry to identify the influence of entrepreneurial cultural values on organizational agility. The Competing Values Framework was applied to identify the relationship between cultural values and organizational agility. The result shows that cultural differences affect the companies ability to develop organizational agility for innovation work. In particular incumbents struggled to enable a change towards organizational agility. We found that startups integrated Clan and Adhocracy into an agile culture, which enabled continuous innovation growth.

  • The practice of organizational social media : an international longitudinal case study
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: AMCIS 2019 proceedings. - Cancún : Association for Information Systems. - 9780996683180 ; , s. 1-10
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The last decade a broad stream of research has studied how organizations use specific social media platforms. However, there is a lack of research that focuses on a more general use of organizational social media over time, that includes social media use both for internal and external purposes, and what implications the use has on work practices and organizational structures. The aim of the present paper is hence to study the organizational use of social media in terms of what new work practices and organizational structures that emerge and changes over time. Orlikowski’s ‘practice lens’ has been used to analyze the introduction and ongoing use of social media in a hotel chain over a period of five years. The main contribution of the paper is providing means to explain the new practices and structures related to organizational work that arises due to the use of organizational social media.

  • Information Integrity and Human Infrastructure in Digital Health Care
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: AMCIS 2019 PROCEEDINGS. - : Association for Information Systems. - 9780996683180 ; , s. 1-10
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Healthcare informatics is undergoing major changes due to new infrastructures like social media that allow patients to proactively bring information to the physician consultation. We use the concept of infrastructuring to describe these changes, referring to the social practice of adapting human infrastructure for specific contexts. This poses informational and social challenges to providers, as they negotiate new boundaries with patients. Information integrity is essential because of risks to both parties. Infrastructuring in this case is the maintenance of information privacy and accuracy, or information integrity. The tasks of vetting information integrity and managing patient expectations add complexity to provider work even as physicians are positive about patients taking responsibility for their own health. The paper addresses infrastructure transformations, the process of infrastructuring, and a concept of information integrity. Using qualitative data from a medical setting, the study illustrates the contradictions physicians face in accommodating social media to their practice.
