  • Creativity at a distance
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Event Proceedings. - 9789523356948
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    •  More and more meetings in working life are conducted remotely via digital media. How are creative meetings affected by participants being at a distance? Some experiment suggests group creativity to improve with remote work, other show challenges. How is it in real practice? Ten well performing leaders working from home have been interviewed. They reported several challenges. Some have been found in earlier research, the preparation phase is harder and the tools for remote communication aren’t yet good and simple enough for practitioners. But some might be new discoveries, the long time needed for creative meetings being too tiresome for the remote situation, and participants becoming disturbed by irrelevant activities in the home context. Most of the interviewed managers see a hybrid as the future, where some work will be performed from home and some at a shared workplace. Creative meetings are suggested to be performed with physical closeness.

  • Factors influencing temporary innovation teams - research in progress
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Event Proceedings. - 9789523356948
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this ongoing research, I aim to develop an understanding of factors influencing temporary innovation teams. An innovation team is defined as a purposely created team conducting innovation, meaning they are not just “any” team that accidentally innovates. Innovation teams have gained more and more interest lately, stemming from group development research, team building and organisational development. Except for “ordinary” innovation teams, innovation work is also conducted using Hackathons, where teams purposely are created aiming to solve defined problems in a limited time, i.e., temporary innovation teams. In research covering Hackathons, innovation-related aspects, for example, immaterial property rights, the benefit of collaboration, the problem with dysfunctionality, and the structure for planning and executing Hackathons, are explored. Not covered fully is the understanding of factors influencing temporary teams positively and negatively, to which this study aims to contribute. The following research will focus on the process of creating temporary innovation teams.

  • Why innovation pedagogics matter – A case study
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Event Proceedings. - 9789523356948
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Recently, the ISO guidance standard “Innovation management - Innovation management system” - ISO56002:2019 (ISO56002) has gained a lot of interest within the innovation management community. Recent research calls for an increased understanding of what innovation pedagogics are needed to support innovation management consultants and advisors (innovation advisors) in their work supporting its clients in the ISO56002 and the relevance of ISO56002’s content for small and medium-sized enterprises (SME). In this study, building on an existing tool for measuring innovation maturity, the Innovation Management Capability Assessment and Reflection tool (IMCAR) was developed to also include a reflective part of the ISO56002 content’s relevance for the responding organisation. Using the IMCAR tool, this study indicates that the ISO56002 is relevant for both SMEs and innovation advisors but also the need for further development of innovation pedagogics related to vocabulary, knowledge, facilitated reflections, and visualisation tools. Limitations and further research avenues are discussed.

  • Managing collaborative innovation initiatives - Does a standard-based framework apply?
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Event Proceedings: LUT Scientific and Expertise Publications: ISBN 978-952-335-694-8. - 9789523356948
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • To address grand societal challenges, united actions from multiple actors are required. Innovation management in mission-oriented, collaborative contexts is however a particularly tall order. In parallel, ISO standards for innovation management have become available. This paper has studied nine collaborative innovation initiatives (diverse domains/levels) to capture their experiences and challenges. These were analysed regarding the relevance of applying standard-based frameworks for innovation management in such settings. It is concluded that a standard-based framework for innovation management can be applied as a support for both planning and execution, making a relevant starting point to ensure crucial aspects are not overlooked. Thereto, this paper also presents a tentative methodology aiming to contribute to the planning and execution of such collaborative innovation initiatives. The methodology contains (1) a preparatory step of mapping the initiative, and (2) a second step utilising a set of guiding aspects in the form of questions and claims.

  • Covarying effects of creativity studies on academic performance in innovation processes
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the XXXIII ISPIM Innovation Conference "Innovating in a Digital World" / [ed] Leandro Bitetti; Iain Bitran; Steffen Conn; Jessica Fishburn; Eelko Huizingh; Marko Torkkeli; Jialei Yang, Lappeenranta University of Technology Press, 2022. - : Lappeenranta University of Technology Press. - 9789523356948 ; , s. 1-20
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aim of this paper is to investigate the effects of the relationships between personal characteristics, thinking preferences and learning activities on academic achievements in creativity studies for innovation management. Development of theory related reflexivity on creative experiences and competence as well as training of required skills in innovation processes needs to activate both the pre-requisites and predictors of creativity (OECD, 2019). Statistical analysis of quantitative data and qualitative data collected within the framework of a course aiming to develop competence and skills for creativity in innovation processes’ is presented. The results are related in the model for covarying creativity constructs based on the statistical correlation and regression analyzes. Based on this developed understanding consequences for developing creativity competences

  • Systemic Innovation and Industry Transformation
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: ISPIM Conference Proceedings, 2022 (Copenhagen). - Manchester : LUT Scientific and Expertise Publications. - 9789523356948
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Systemic innovation as a concept and theory is still undeveloped fo runderstanding and managing innovation. By a focus on processes where actors innovate systemically, where systems are seen as something constructed byinnovators rather than given in reality, systemic innovation adds to leading approaches to managing innovation, like open innovation, triple helix, as wellas innovation system and ecosystem, with potentials to be developed into a new paradigm in innovation studies and innovation management. Through conceptual development, literature review and empirical study at three industrial innovation centers focused on industry transformation, a model for systemic innovation is developed. The model aims to contribute to theory of systemic innovation as well as be potential guide for practitioners in innovating systemically

  • Employee work requirements, leadership support and performance : the buffering role of mental health. Evidence from the Covid-19 pandemic
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Event Proceedings. - 9789523356948
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    •  As a result, to the pandemic, several organizations moved their operations from working in the workspace to working from home. This change came with its one challenges but also new and innovative ways to teleworking. The current study addresses the role of leadership support and recognition as a mediator in the relationship between employee’s work requirement and their deteriorating work performance. The study also addresses the moderating role of employees’ mental health. Based on a survey of 888 individuals working from home, we reveal a moderated mediation relationship between employees’ work requirement, and deteriorating work performance. The findings hold important implications for those currently working hybrid and most specially for supervisors managing such individuals.

  • Collaborative foresight for sustainable innovation
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: LUT Scientific and Expertise Publications. - 9789523356948
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Openness, broad involvement and inclusion of different perspectives are considered a useful strategy for successful innovation. We suggest this is valid also for foresight practice as a part of an innovation process. In this paper, collaborative signal scanning regarding sustainability, act as the foundation for an intervention in an interactive research study discussing how to distribute and improve foresight practice, based on broad involvement for sustainable innovation? This research was performed as a university industry collaboration. The intervention consisted of two parts: moderated networking meetings with the purpose of sharing and reflecting on weak signals about sustainability and access to a learning module consisting of practical and theoretical material on corporate foresight, accessible via a digital learning platform. Participants express new insights, changed habits both in private and professional situations, and a strong incentive to pursue this work. The lack of time is a hinder for the individuals.
