  • J-PARC Neutrino Beamline Upgrade Technical Design Report
  • 2019
  • Rapport (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this document, technical details of the upgrade plan of the J-PARC neutrino beamline for the extension of the T2K experiment are described. T2K has proposed to accumulate data corresponding to 2×1022 protons-on-target in the next decade, aiming at an initial observation of CP violation with 3σ or higher significance in the case of maximal CP violation. Methods to increase the neutrino beam intensity, which are necessary to achieve the proposed data increase, are described.

  • Spectral phase encoded time spread optical code division multiple access technology for next generation communication networks Invited
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Journal of Optical Networking. - 1536-5379. ; 6:10, s. 1210-1227
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We overview and summarize the progress of the spectral phase encoded time spreading (SPECTS) optical code division multiple access (O-CDMA) technology. Recent progress included a demonstration of a 320 Gbit/s (32-user x 10 Gbit/s) all-optical passive optical network testbed based on the SPECTS O-CDMA technology and a theoretical prediction of the spectral efficiency at 100% and above. In particular, InP-based integrated photonics allows implementation of SPECTS O-CDMA transmitters and receivers monolithically integrated on a chip. The integrated InP chip technology not only allows robust and compact configurations for practical and low-cost O-CDMA network deployments but also offers code reconfigurations at rapid rates for secure communication applications.

  • Demonstration of Spectral Phase O-CDMA Encoding and Decoding in Monolithically Integrated Arrayed-Waveguide-Grating-Based Encoder
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: IEEE Photonics Technology Letters. - 1041-1135 .- 1941-0174. ; 18:21-24, s. 2602-2604
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report on successful spectral phase encoding and decoding operation in a pair of monolithically integrated InP encoder chips, each consisting of an arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) pair and an eight-channel electrooptic phase shifter array. The monolithic fabrication process includes anisotropic reactive ion etching and planarizing hydride-vapor-phase-epitaxy lateral regrowth to realize buried hetero-waveguide structures in AWGs and phase shifters. Electrooptical modulation in the phase shifter arrays in the encoder chip achieved Walsh-code-based optical code-division multiple access (O-CDMA) encoding and decoding. The matched-code encoding-decoding operation resulted in error-free performance in the presence of an interferer, indicating good potential for O-CDMA network applications.

  • Dissipativity-preserving model reduction based on generalized singular perturbation
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: 2013 IEEE 52nd Annual Conference on Decision and Control (CDC). - : IEEE conference proceedings. - 9781467357173 ; , s. 5540-5545
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, we develop a dissipativity-preserving model reduction method based on a generalized singular perturbation approximation. This model reduction framework can deal with not only standard singular perturbation approximation but also projection-based model reduction as a special case. To develop such a model reduction method, we investigate a condition under which system dissipativity is appropriately preserved through the approximation. Moreover, deriving a novel factorization of the error system in the Laplace domain, we derive an a priori error bound in terms of the H2-norm. The efficiency of the model reduction is shown through an example of interconnected second-order systems.

  • Structured model reduction of interconnected linear systems based on singular perturbation
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the American Control Conference 2013. - : American Automatic Control Council. - 9781479901777 ; , s. 5524-5529
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper proposes a singular perturbation approximation that preserves system passivity and an interconnection topology among subsystems. In the first half of this paper, we develop a singular perturbation approximation valid for stable linear systems. Using the relation between the singular perturbation and the reciprocal transformation, we derive a tractable expression of the error system in the Laplace domain, which provides a novel insight to regulate the approximating quality of reduced models. Then in the second half, we develop a structured singular perturbation approximation that focuses on a class of interconnected systems. This structured approximation provides a reduced model that not only possesses fine approximating quality, but also preserves the original interconnection topology and system passivity.

  • Singular perturbation approximation of semistable linear systems
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: 2013 European Control Conference, ECC 2013. - : IEEE. - 9783033039629 ; , s. 4508-4513
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper proposes a singular perturbation approximation for semistable linear systems. In particular, we derive a novel expression of error systems in the Laplace domain. As a result, we obtain an h2-error bound in terms of the sum of eigenvalues of an index matrix, which coincides with a controllability gramian of the state-derivative. Furthermore, we show that the singular perturbation model appropriately preserves the semistability of the original system and also guarantees the stability of the error system. The efficiency of the proposed method is shown through a numerical example of a Markov chain model approximation.

  • Elevated Intraocular Pressure, Optic Nerve Atrophy, and Impaired Retinal Development in ODAG Transgenic Mice
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science. - : Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO). - 0146-0404 .- 1552-5783. ; 50:1, s. 242-248
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • PURPOSE. In an earlier study, a cDNA was cloned that showed abundant expression in the eye at postnatal day (P) 2 but was downregulated at P10; it was named ODAG (ocular development-associated gene). Its biological function was examined by generating and analyzing transgenic mice overexpressing ODAG (ODAG Tg) in the eye and by identifying ODAG-binding proteins. METHODS. Transgenic mice were generated by using the mouse Crx promoter. EGFP was designed to be coexpressed with transgenic ODAG, to identify transgene-expressing cells. Overexpression of ODAG was confirmed by Northern and Western blot analysis. IOP was measured with a microneedle technique. The eyes were macroscopically examined and histologically analyzed. EGFP expression was detected by confocal microscope. Proteins associated with ODAG were isolated by pull-down assay in conjugation with mass spectrometry. RESULTS. Macroscopically, ODAG Tg exhibited gradual protrusion of the eyeballs. The mean IOP of ODAG Tg was significantly higher than that of wild-type (WT) littermates. Histologic analysis exhibited optic nerve atrophy and impaired retinal development in the ODAG Tg eye. EGFP was expressed highly in the presumptive outer nuclear layer and weakly in the presumptive inner nuclear layer in the ODAG Tg retina. Rab6-GTPase-activating protein (Rab6-GAP) and its substrate, Rab6, were identified as ODAG-binding proteins. CONCLUSIONS. Deregulated expression of ODAG in the eye induces elevated intraocular pressure and optic nerve atrophy and impairs retinal development, possibly by interfering with the Rab6/Rab6-GAP-mediated signaling pathway. These results provide new insights into the mechanisms regulating ocular development, and ODAG Tg would be a novel animal model for human diseases caused by ocular hypertension.

  • Immunization of geographical networks
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Complex Sciences. - Berlin, Heidelberg : Springer Berlin/Heidelberg. - 9783642024689 - 9783642024696 ; , s. 2388-2395
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We numerically investigate the epidemic spread phenomena and efficient immunization strategies on complex networks embedded in geometry. It is assumed that there exists an unavoidable time delay (we call it the detection time) between the actual infection and the beginning of immunization, and we implement two different immunization strategies: one is based on topological connection neighbors (CN) of the infected vertex and the other on geographical spatial neighbors (SN). It is found that the decrease of the detection time is very important for a successful immunization. Our results suggest that within the limitation of the network models considered here, in which the infection probability is assumed to decrease with the geographic distance, the simple SN strategy works almost equally or better than the CN strategy, especially when the detection time is longer.
