  • Deuteron and triton production with high energy sulphur and lead beams
  • 2002
  • In: European Physical Journal C. Particles and Fields. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1434-6044. ; 23:2, s. 237-247
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Proton and deuteron production has been observed in S+S and S+Pb collisions at 200 A-GeV and in Pb+Pb reactions at 158 A-GeV at the CERN SPS accelerator. For Pb+Pb triton production was also measured. The p and d spectra as well as the p and t spectra were observed in similar rapidity ranges and over similar ranges of transverse momenta per nucleon, making it possible to interpret the cross sections of the composite particles in terms of coalescence mechanisms. Volumes of homogeneity were extracted and compared to pion-pair HBT interferometry results. Special attention is given to the dependence on transverse mass, centrality and rapidity.

  • Particle production in central Pb+Pb collisions at 158A GeV/c
  • 2002
  • In: Physical Review C (Nuclear Physics). - 0556-2813. ; 66:4
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The NA44 experiment has measured single-particle inclusive spectra for charged pions, kaons, and protons as a function of transverse mass near midrapidity in 158A GeV/c Pb+Pb collisions. From the particle mass dependence of the observed m(T) distributions, we are able to deduce a value of about 120 MeV for the temperature at thermal freeze-out. From the observed ratios of the rapidity densities, we find values of the chemical potentials for light and strange quarks and a chemical freeze-out temperature of approximately 140 MeV.

  • ONSET OF COLLECTIVITY IN NEUTRON-DEFICIENT PO-196,PO-198
  • 1995
  • In: Physical Review C. Nuclear Physics. - 0556-2813 .- 1089-490X. ; 52:2, s. 621-627
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • We have studied via in-beam gamma-ray spectroscopy Po-196 and Po-198, which are the first neutron-deficient Po isotopes to exhibit a collective low-lying structure. The ratios of yrast state energies and the E2 branching ratios of transitions from non-yrast to yrast states are indicative of a low-lying vibrational structure. The onset of collective motion in these isotopes can be attributed to the opening of the neutron i(13/2) orbital at N approximate to 112 and the resulting large overlap between the two valence protons in the h(9/2) orbital and the valence neutrons in the i(13/2) orbital.

  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • High spin states in the nucleus 89Tc have been studied via the fusion evaporation reaction 58Ni(40Ca,2αp)89Tc at 180 MeV beam energy. The NORDBALL γ-ray spectrometer equipped with auxiliary detectors for light particle selection was used to measure γγ- and particle-γγ coin-cidences. Some 60 transitions were placed into a level scheme comprising 38 levels reaching up to 9.2 MeV excitation energy and a possible spin of . The level scheme is compared to those of neighbouring nuclei and interpreted in terms of the spherical shell model. The calculations were performed with different sets of parameters within a restricted , , and configuration space. States above 2.3 MeV excitation energy are well reproduced by shell model calculations based on an empirical residual interaction, whereas collective excitations are suggested to contribute to the wave functions of lower lying states.
