  • REVIEW OF PARTICLE PHYSICS : Particle Data Group
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Chinese Physics C. - : IOP Publishing. - 1674-1137 .- 2058-6132. ; 40:10
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Review summarizes much of particle physics and cosmology. Using data from previous editions, plus 3,062 new measurements from 721 papers, we list, evaluate, and average measured properties of gauge bosons and the recently discovered Higgs boson, leptons, quarks, mesons, and baryons. We summarize searches for hypothetical particles such as supersymmetric particles, heavy bosons, axions, dark photons, etc. All the particle properties and search limits are listed in Summary Tables. We also give numerous tables, figures, formulae, and reviews of topics such as Higgs Boson Physics, Supersymmetry, Grand Unified Theories, Neutrino Mixing, Dark Energy, Dark Matter, Cosmology, Particle Detectors, Colliders, Probability and Statistics. Among the 117 reviews are many that are new or heavily revised, including new reviews on Pentaquarks and Inflation. The complete Review is published online in a journal and on the website of the Particle Data Group (http://pdg.lbl.gov). The printed PDG Book contains the Summary Tables and all review articles but no longer includes the detailed tables from the Particle Listings. A Booklet with the Summary Tables and abbreviated versions of some of the review articles is also available.

  • Physics at the e(+) e(-) linear collider
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1434-6044 .- 1434-6052. ; 75:8
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A comprehensive review of physics at an e(+) e(-) linear collider in the energy range of root s = 92 GeV-3 TeV is presented in view of recent and expected LHC results, experiments from low-energy as well as astroparticle physics. The report focusses in particular on Higgs-boson, top-quark and electroweak precision physics, but also discusses several models of beyond the standard model physics such as super-symmetry, little Higgs models and extra gauge bosons. The connection to cosmology has been analysed as well.

  • Structural phase transition in vanadium at high pressure and high temperature : Influence of nonhydrostatic conditions
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Physical Review B. Condensed Matter and Materials Physics. - 1098-0121 .- 1550-235X. ; 83:5
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Vanadium has been reported to undergo phase transition upon compression from body-centered cubic (bcc) to rhombohedral structure around 62 GPa. In this paper we confirm the bcc to rhombohedral phase transition at 61.5 GPa under quasihydrostatic compression in the Ne pressure medium. Under the nonhydrostatic condition we find the phase transition occurring at 30 GPa at ambient temperature and 37 GPa at 425 K. We find the transition under the hydrostatic condition is hindered and it can occur at much lower pressure under the nonhydrostatic condition.

  • Global change effects on plant communities are magnified by time and the number of global change factors imposed
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America. - : National Academy of Sciences. - 0027-8424 .- 1091-6490. ; 116:36, s. 17867-17873
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Accurate prediction of community responses to global change drivers (GCDs) is critical given the effects of biodiversity on ecosystem services. There is consensus that human activities are driving species extinctions at the global scale, but debate remains over whether GCDs are systematically altering local communities worldwide. Across 105 experiments that included over 400 experimental manipulations, we found evidence for a lagged response of herbaceous plant communities to GCDs caused by shifts in the identities and relative abundances of species, often without a corresponding difference in species richness. These results provide evidence that community responses are pervasive across a wide variety of GCDs on long-term temporal scales and that these responses increase in strength when multiple GCDs are simultaneously imposed.Global change drivers (GCDs) are expected to alter community structure and consequently, the services that ecosystems provide. Yet, few experimental investigations have examined effects of GCDs on plant community structure across multiple ecosystem types, and those that do exist present conflicting patterns. In an unprecedented global synthesis of over 100 experiments that manipulated factors linked to GCDs, we show that herbaceous plant community responses depend on experimental manipulation length and number of factors manipulated. We found that plant communities are fairly resistant to experimentally manipulated GCDs in the short term (<10 y). In contrast, long-term (≥10 y) experiments show increasing community divergence of treatments from control conditions. Surprisingly, these community responses occurred with similar frequency across the GCD types manipulated in our database. However, community responses were more common when 3 or more GCDs were simultaneously manipulated, suggesting the emergence of additive or synergistic effects of multiple drivers, particularly over long time periods. In half of the cases, GCD manipulations caused a difference in community composition without a corresponding species richness difference, indicating that species reordering or replacement is an important mechanism of community responses to GCDs and should be given greater consideration when examining consequences of GCDs for the biodiversity–ecosystem function relationship. Human activities are currently driving unparalleled global changes worldwide. Our analyses provide the most comprehensive evidence to date that these human activities may have widespread impacts on plant community composition globally, which will increase in frequency over time and be greater in areas where communities face multiple GCDs simultaneously.

  • Physiological effects of a mouth-borne heat exchanger during heavy exercise in a cold environment
  • 1989
  • Ingår i: Ergonomics. - : Informa UK Limited. - 0014-0139 .- 1366-5847. ; 32:6, s. 645-653
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A mouth-borne heat and moisture exchanger (HME) was tested. Nine healthy subjects performed an incremental-load cycle ergometry test to exhaustion, breathing once through the HME and once through a similar device without heat-exchange function (control). HME substantially increased inspired gas temperatures and decreased expired gas temperatures measured at the mouth; at 260 W (pulmonary ventilation (VE) approximately 1001 min-1) these changes amounted to + 15 degrees C and -5 degrees C, respectively. The breathing resistance was increased by HME but remained well within tolerable levels even during severe exercise. This was reflected in the subjective assessments of breathing resistance and breathing discomfort which, at any given workload, were rated similarly in the HME and control conditions. Also, time to exhaustion as well as oxygen uptake and VE at a given workload were unaffected by HME. That even at high pulmonary ventilations HME provided a good heat-exchange function while keeping breathing resistance relatively low suggests HME to be a useful aid for individuals suffering from cold-induced bronchospasm.

  • Factors Associated with Patency Following Angioplasty of Hemodialysis Fistulae
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology. - : Elsevier BV. - 1051-0443. ; 25:9, s. 1419-1426
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose: Patency after percutaneous transluminal angioplasty of native hemodialysis arteriovenous fistulae (AVFs) is highly variable. This study aimed to identify predictors of patency following angioplasty in native AVFs. Materials and Methods: All endovascular procedures performed in native AVFs between 2005 and 2013 at two institutions were retrospectively reviewed. Clinical, anatomic, biochemical, and medication variables Were subjected to univariate and multivariate Cox regression analysis to identify predictors of postintervention primary and secondary patency. Results: During the study period, 207 patients underwent first angioplasty of their AVF. Follow-up ranged from 14 days to 8 years, during which another 247 endovascular interventions were performed to maintain patency. Postintervention primary patency rates at 6, 12, and 24 months were 66%, 49%, and 29%, respectively. Postintervention secondary patency rates at 6, 12, and 24 months were 94%, 84%, and 79%, respectively. On multivariate adjusted Cox regression analysis, upper-arm AVFs (P = .00072), AVFs less than 6 months of age (P = .0014), presence of multiple stenoses (P = .019), and degree of initial stenosis (P = .016) were significantly associated with shorter postintervention primary patency. A previously failed AVF was the only significant predictor of postintervention secondary patency loss (P = .0053). Conclusions: Anatomic factors related to the AVF location, AVF age, and the extent of the lesion are important predictors of restenosis after balloon angioplasty. Traditional cardiovascular risk factors, metabolic and inflammatory markers, and medications were not associated with postintervention potency.
