  • The Psychological Science Accelerator's COVID-19 rapid-response dataset
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Scientific Data. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 2052-4463. ; 10:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Psychological Science Accelerator coordinated three large-scale psychological studies to examine the effects of loss-gain framing, cognitive reappraisals, and autonomy framing manipulations on behavioral intentions and affective measures. The data collected (April to October 2020) included specific measures for each experimental study, a general questionnaire examining health prevention behaviors and COVID-19 experience, geographical and cultural context characterization, and demographic information for each participant. Each participant started the study with the same general questions and then was randomized to complete either one longer experiment or two shorter experiments. Data were provided by 73,223 participants with varying completion rates. Participants completed the survey from 111 geopolitical regions in 44 unique languages/dialects. The anonymized dataset described here is provided in both raw and processed formats to facilitate re-use and further analyses. The dataset offers secondary analytic opportunities to explore coping, framing, and self-determination across a diverse, global sample obtained at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, which can be merged with other time-sampled or geographic data.

  • Revival of associating liver partition and portal vein ligation for staged hepatectomy for perihilar cholangiocarcinoma: An international multicenter study with promising outcomes
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Surgery. - : MOSBY-ELSEVIER. - 0039-6060 .- 1532-7361. ; 173:6, s. 1398-1404
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Associating liver partition and portal vein ligation for staged hepatectomy for per-ihilar cholangiocarcinoma has been considered to be contraindicated due to the initial poor results. Given the recent reports of improved outcomes, we aimed to collect the recent expe-riences of different centers performing associating liver partition and portal vein ligation for staged hepatectomy for perihilar cholangiocarcinoma to analyze factors related to improved outcomes. Methods: This proof-of-concept study collected contemporary cases of associating liver partition and portal vein ligation for staged hepatectomy for perihilar cholangiocarcinoma and analyzed for morbidity, short and long-term survival, and factors associated with outcomes. Results: In total, 39 patients from 8 centers underwent associating liver partition and portal vein ligation for staged hepatectomy for perihilar cholangiocarcinoma from 2010 to 2020. The median preoperative future liver remnant volume was 323 mL (155-460 mL). The median future liver remnant increase was 58.7% (8.9%-264. 5%) with a median interstage interval of 13 days (6-60 days). Post-stage 1 and post-stage 2 biliary leaks occurred in 2 (7.7%) and 4 (15%) patients. Six patients (23%) after stage 1 and 6 (23%) after stage 2 experienced grade 3 or higher complica-tions. Two patients (7.7%) died within 90 days after stage 2. The 1-, 3-, and 5-year survival was 92%, 69%, and 55%, respectively. A subgroup analysis revealed poor survival for patients under-going additional vascular resection and lymph node positivity. Lymph node-negative patients showed excellent survival demonstrated by 1-, 3-, and 5-year survival of 86%, 86%, and 86%. Conclusion: This study highlights that the critical attitude toward associating liver partition and portal vein ligation for staged hepatectomy for perihilar cholangiocarcinoma needs to be revised. In selected patients with perihilar cholangiocarcinoma, associating liver partition and portal vein ligation for staged hepatectomy can achieve favorable survival that compares to the outcome of established surgical treatment strategies reported in benchmark studies for perihilar cholangiocarcinoma including 1-stage hepatectomy and liver transplantation. • Novel Strategy for One-Step Production of Attenuated Ag-Containing AgCu/ZnO Antibacterial-Antifungal Nanocomposite Particles
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Powder Metallurgy and Metal Ceramics. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1068-1302 .- 1573-9066. ; 59:5-6, s. 261-270
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Novel strategies have been developed to comply with Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) regulations to provide the same performances for antibacterial and antifungal materials. The strategy for producing composite materials by attenuating the silver (Ag) content and a one-step production technique without minimizing the antibacterial and antifungal performance was developed. In this study, attenuated spherical Ag containing spherical AgCu/ZnO nanocomposite particles have been synthesized from an aqueous solution of silver nitrate (AgNO3), copper nitrate (Cu(NO3)2 · 3H2O), and zinc nitrate (Zn(NO3)2 · 7H2O) by a facile one-step ultrasonic spray pyrolysis and hydrogen reduction (USP-HR) method. Characterization of AgCu/ZnO nanocomposite particles was carried out by various techniques such as X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (FEG-SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The structural analysis showed that AgCu/ZnO nanocomposites were composed of face-centered cubic Ag, face-centered cubic Cu, and hexagonal ZnO phases. Antibacterial and antifungal properties of nanocomposite particles against Escherichia coli and Aspergillus niger were investigated by agar medium and broth medium methods. The obtained results indicate that produced nanocomposite particles possess antibacterial and antifungal properties (100%). The attenuated Ag in the AgCu/ZnO nanocomposite particles has the usage potential in different areas of the textile industry. In particular, the research on utilizing this nanocomposite in hand-made fiber production as an additive is of very high interest.

  • ALPPS for Locally Advanced Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma: Did Aggressive Surgery Lead to the Oncological Benefit? An International Multi-center Study
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Annals of Surgical Oncology. - : SPRINGER. - 1068-9265 .- 1534-4681. ; 27, s. 1372-1384
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background ALPPS is found to increase the resectability of primary and secondary liver malignancy at the advanced stage. The aim of the study was to verify the surgical and oncological outcome of ALPPS for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC). Methods The study cohort was based on the ALPPS registry with patients from 31 international centers between August 2009 and January 2018. Propensity score matched patients receiving chemotherapy only were selected from the SEER database as controls for the survival analysis. Results One hundred and two patients undergoing ALPPS were recruited, 99 completed the second stage with median inter-stage duration of 11 days. The median kinetic growth rate was 23 ml/day. R0 resection was achieved in 87 (85%). Initially high rates of morbidity and mortality decreased steadily to a 29% severe complication rate and 7% 90-day morbidity in the last 2 years. Post-hepatectomy liver failure remained the main cause of 90-day mortality. Multivariate analysis revealed insufficient future liver remnant at the stage-2 operation (FLR2) to be the only risk factor for severe complications (OR 2.91, p = 0.02). The propensity score matching analysis showed a superior overall survival in the ALPPS group compared to palliative chemotherapy (median overall survival: 26.4 months vs 14 months; 1-, 2-, and 3-year survival rates: 82.4%, 70.5% and 39.6% vs 51.2%, 21.4% and 11.3%, respectively, p amp;lt; 0.01). The survival benefit, however, was not confirmed in the subgroup analysis for patients with insufficient FLR2 or multifocal ICC. Conclusion ALPPS showed high efficacy in achieving R0 resections in locally advanced ICC. To get the most oncological benefit from this aggressive surgery, ALPPS would be restricted to patients with single lesions and sufficient FLR2.

  • Kinetic oxygen isotope effects during dissimilatory sulfate reduction : A combined theoretical and experimental approach
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta. - : Elsevier BV. - 0016-7037 .- 1872-9533. ; 74:7, s. 2011-2024
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Kinetic isotope effects related to the breaking of chemical bonds drive Sulfur isotope fraction at ion during dissimilatory sit I fate reduction (DSR), whereas oxygen isotope fractional ion during DSR is dominated by exchange between intercellular sulfur intermediates and water. We use a simplified biochemical model for DSR to explore how a kinetic oxygen isotope effect may be expressed. We then explore these relationships in light of evolving sulfur and Oxygen isotope compositions (delta S-34(SO4) and delta O-18(SO4)) during batch culture growth of twelve strains of surface-reducing bacteria. Cultured under conditions to optimize growth and with identical delta O-18(H2O) and initial delta O-18(SO4), all strains show 34 S enrichment, whereas only six strains show significant O-18 enrichment. The remaining six show no (or minimal) change in delta O-18(SO4) over the growth of the bacteria. We use these experimental and theoretical results to address three questions: (i) which Sulfur intermediates exchange oxygen isotopes with water, (ii) what is the kinetic oxygen isotope effect related to the reduction of adenosine phosphosulfate (APS) to sulfite (SO32-), (iii) does a kinetic oxygen isotope effect impact the apparent oxygen isotope equilibrium values? We conclude that oxygen isotope exchange between water and a sulfur intermediate likely occurs downstream of APS and that our data constrain the kinetic oxygen isotope fractionation for the reduction of APS to sulfite to be smaller than 47 parts per thousand. This small oxygen isotope effect impacts the apparent oxygen isotope equilibrium as controlled by the extent to which APS reduction is rate-limiting.

  • Observation of Mode Splitting in Photoluminescence of Individual Plasmonic Nanoparticles Strongly Coupled to Molecular Excitons
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Nano Letters. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 1530-6992 .- 1530-6984. ; 17:1, s. 551-558
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Plasmon-exciton interactions are important for many prominent spectroscopic applications' such as surface enhanced Raman scattering, plasmon-mediated fluorescence, nanoscale lasing, and strong coupling. The case of strong coupling is analogous to quantum:optical effects. studied in solid state and atomic systems previously. plasmonics, Similar observations have been almost exclusively made in elastic scattering experiments; however, the interpretation of these experiments is often cumbersome. Here, we demonstrate mode splitting not only in scattering, but also in photoluminescence of individual hybrid nanosystems, which manifests a direct proof of strong coupling in plasmon-exciton nanoparticles, We achieved these results due to saturation of the mode volume with molecular J-aggregates, which resulted in splitting up to 400 meV, that is, similar to 20% of the resonance energy. We analyzed the correlation between scattering and photoluminescence and found that splitting in photoluminescence is considerably less than that in scattering. Moreover, we found that splitting in both photoluminescence and scattering signals increased upon cooling to cryogenic temperatures. These findings improve our understanding of strong Coupling phenomena in plasmonics.
