  • Two-color XUV+NIR femtosecond photoionization of neon in the near-threshold region
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: New Journal of Physics. - : IOP Publishing. - 1367-2630. ; 21
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Results of angle-resolved electron spectroscopy of near-threshold photoionization of Ne atoms by combined femtosecond extreme ultraviolet and near infrared fields are presented. The dressed-electron spectra show an energetic distribution into so-called sidebands, being separated by the photon energy of the dressing laser. Surprisingly, for the low kinetic energy (few eV) sidebands, the photoelectron energy varies as a function of the emission angle. Such behavior has not yet been observed in sideband creation and has not been predicted in commonly used theoretical descriptions such as strong field approximation and soft photon approach. Describing the photoionization with a time-dependent Schrödinger equation allows a qualitative description of the observed effect, as well as the prediction of fine structure in the sideband distribution.

  • Post-collision interaction manifestation in molecular systems probed by photoelectron-molecular ion coincidences
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Journal of Physics B. - : IOP Publishing. - 0953-4075 .- 1361-6455. ; 46:21, s. 215101-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • S1s photoionization in carbonyl sulfide (OCS), followed by multiple Auger decay is investigated both experimentally and theoretically, by means of photoelectron-ion coincidences. A strong influence of post-collision interaction is observed in the energy shift and the distortion of the photoelectron spectra. The magnitude of this effect depends on the total charge of the ionic fragments, i.e., on the number of electrons emitted during the decay of the inner vacancy. A satisfactory agreement is found between experiment and theory, which allows us to estimate the lifetimes of the various two-hole states of the intermediate OCS2+ ion.

  • Mutation spectrum in the large GTPase dynamin 2, and genotype-phenotype correlation in autosomal dominant centronuclear myopathy.
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Human mutation. - : Hindawi Limited. - 1098-1004 .- 1059-7794. ; 33:6, s. 949-59
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Centronuclear myopathy (CNM) is a genetically heterogeneous disorder associated with general skeletal muscle weakness, type I fiber predominance and atrophy, and abnormally centralized nuclei. Autosomal dominant CNM is due to mutations in the large GTPase dynamin 2 (DNM2), a mechanochemical enzyme regulating cytoskeleton and membrane trafficking in cells. To date, 40 families with CNM-related DNM2 mutations have been described, and here we report 60 additional families encompassing a broad genotypic and phenotypic spectrum. In total, 18 different mutations are reported in 100 families and our cohort harbors nine known and four new mutations, including the first splice-site mutation. Genotype-phenotype correlation hypotheses are drawn from the published and new data, and allow an efficient screening strategy for molecular diagnosis. In addition to CNM, dissimilar DNM2 mutations are associated with Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) peripheral neuropathy (CMTD1B and CMT2M), suggesting a tissue-specific impact of the mutations. In this study, we discuss the possible clinical overlap of CNM and CMT, and the biological significance of the respective mutations based on the known functions of dynamin 2 and its protein structure. Defects in membrane trafficking due to DNM2 mutations potentially represent a common pathological mechanism in CNM and CMT.

  • Imaging multiphoton ionization dynamics of CH3I at a high repetition rate XUV free-electron laser
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Journal of Physics B-Atomic Molecular and Optical Physics. - : IOP Publishing. - 0953-4075 .- 1361-6455. ; 54:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • XUV multiphoton ionization of molecules is commonly used in free-electron laser experiments to study charge transfer dynamics. However, molecular dissociation and electron dynamics, such as multiple photon absorption, Auger decay, and charge transfer, often happen on competing time scales, and the contributions of individual processes can be difficult to unravel. We experimentally investigate the Coulomb explosion dynamics of methyl iodide upon core-hole ionization of the shallow inner-shell of iodine (4d) and classically simulate the fragmentation by phenomenologically introducing ionization dynamics and charge transfer. Under our experimental conditions with medium fluence and relatively long XUV pulses (similar to 75 fs), we find that fast Auger decay prior to charge transfer significantly contributes to the charging mechanism, leading to a yield enhancement of higher carbon charge states upon molecular dissociation. Furthermore, we argue for the existence of another charging mechanism for the weak fragmentation channels leading to triply charged carbon atoms. This study shows that classical simulations can be a useful tool to guide the quantum mechanical description of the femtosecond dynamics upon multiphoton absorption in molecular systems.

  • Concerted and sequential three-body fragmentation of deep-core-ionized carbon disulfide
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Physical Chemistry, Chemical Physics - PCCP. - : Royal Society of Chemistry. - 1463-9076 .- 1463-9084. ; 25:1, s. 183-191
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Momentum vector correlation is a powerful tool to study molecular dissociation. We have studied the three-body fragmentation of carbon disulfide after sulfur 1s photoionization by means of momentum imaging techniques. Concerted and sequential pathways are disentangled in three-body fragmentation using adapted analysis strategies. In particular, we introduce various data visualization schemes that are proved to be particularly efficient to determine dissociation dynamics.

  • Selecting core-hole localization or delocalization in CS2 by photofragmentation dynamics
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Nature Communications. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 2041-1723. ; 6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Electronic core levels in molecules are highly localized around one atomic site. However, in single-photon ionization of symmetric molecules, the question of core-hole localization versus delocalization over two equivalent atoms has long been debated as the answer lies at the heart of quantum mechanics. Here, using a joint experimental and theoretical study of core-ionized carbon disulfide (CS2), we demonstrate that it is possible to experimentally select distinct molecular-fragmentation pathways in which the core hole can be considered as either localized on one sulfur atom or delocalized between two indistinguishable sulfur atoms. This feat is accomplished by measuring photoelectron angular distributions within the frame of the molecule, directly probing entanglement or disentanglement of quantum pathways as a function of how the molecule dissociates.

  • Mutation update for the PORCN gene
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Human Mutation. - : Wiley-Blackwell. - 1059-7794 .- 1098-1004. ; 32:7, s. 723-728
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Mutations in the PORCN gene were first identified in Goltz-Gorlin syndrome patients in 2007. Since then, several reports have been published describing a large variety of genetic defects resulting in the Goltz-Gorlin syndrome, and mutations or deletions were also reported in angioma serpiginosum, the pentalogy of Cantrell and Limb-Body Wall Complex. Here we present a review of the published mutations in the PORCN gene to date and report on seven new mutations together with the corresponding clinical data. Based on the review we have created a Web-based locus-specific database that lists all identified variants and allows the inclusion of future reports. The database is based on the Leiden Open (source) Variation Database (LOVD) software, and is accessible online at http://www.lovd.nl/porcn. At present, the database contains 106 variants, representing 68 different mutations, scattered along the whole coding sequence of the PORCN gene, and 12 large gene rearrangements, which brings up to 80 the number of unique mutations identified in Goltz-Gorlin syndrome patients.
