  • Friction and lubrication modeling in sheet metal forming simulations of a Volvo XC90 inner door
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: IOP Conference Series.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The quality of sheet metal formed parts is strongly dependent on the tribology, friction and lubrication conditions that are acting in the actual production process. Although friction is of key importance, it is currently not considered in detail in stamping simulations. This paper presents a selection of results considering friction and lubrication modeling in sheet metal forming simulations of the Volvo XC90 right rear door inner. For this purpose, the TriboForm software is used in combination with the AutoForm software. Validation of the simulation results is performed using door inner parts taken from the press line in a full-scale production run. The results demonstrate the improved prediction accuracy of stamping simulations by accounting for accurate friction and lubrication conditions, and the strong influence of friction conditions on both the part quality and the overall production stability. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

  • Friction in Sheet Metal Forming : Forming Simulations of Dies in Try-Out
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Journal of Physics. - : Institute of Physics Publishing.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The quality of sheet metal formed parts is strongly dependent on the tribology and friction conditions that are acting in the actual forming process. This paper focuses on the tribology conditions during early try-out of dies for new car models. The motivation for the study is that the majority of the forming simulations at Volvo Cars are performed to secure the die try-out, i.e. solve as many problems as possible in forming simulations before the final design of the die and milling of the casting. In the current study, three closure parts for the new Volvo V60 model have been analysed with both Coulomb and TriboForm friction models. The simulation results from the different friction models are compared using thickness measurements of real parts, and 3D geometry scanning data of the parts. Results show the improved prediction capability of forming simulations when using the TriboForm friction model, demonstrating the ability to accurately describe try-out conditions in sheet metal forming simulations. © 2018 Institute of Physics Publishing. • Friction in Sheet Metal Forming Simulations : Modelling of New Sheet Metal Coatings and Lubricants
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: IOP Conference Series. - : Institute of Physics Publishing.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The quality of sheet metal formed parts is strongly dependent on the tribology and friction conditions that are acting in the actual forming process. These friction conditions are then dependent on the tribology system, i.e. the applied sheet material, coating and tooling material, the lubrication and process conditions. Although friction is of key importance, it is currently not considered in detail in sheet metal forming simulations. The current industrial standard is to use a constant (Coulomb) coefficient of friction, which limits the overall simulation accuracy. Since a few years back there is an ongoing collaboration on friction modelling between Volvo Cars, Tata Steel, TriboForm Engineering, AutoForm Engineering and the University of Twente. In previous papers by the authors, results from lab scale studies and studies of a door-inner part in Volvo Cars production have been presented. This paper focuses on the tribology conditions during early tryout of dies for new car models with an emphasis on the effect of the usage of new steel material coatings and lubricants on forming results. The motivation for the study is that the majority of the forming simulations at Volvo Cars are performed to secure the die tryout, i.e. solve as many problems as possible in forming simulations before the final design of the die and milling of the casting. • Uncovering the stellar structure of the dusty star-forming galaxy GN20 at z=4.055 with MIRI/JWST
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Astronomy and Astrophysics. - 0004-6361 .- 1432-0746. ; 673
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Luminous infrared galaxies at high redshifts (z > 4) include extreme starbursts that build their stellar mass over short periods of time, that is, of 100 Myr or less. These galaxies are considered to be the progenitors of massive quiescent galaxies at intermediate redshifts (z similar to 2) but their stellar structure and buildup is unknown. Here, we present the first spatially resolved near-infrared (rest-frame 1.1 mu m) imaging of GN20, one of the most luminous dusty star-forming galaxies known to date, observed at an epoch when the Universe was only 1.5 Gyr old. The 5.6 mu m image taken with the JWST Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI/JWST) shows that GN20 is a very luminous galaxy (M-1.1 mu m,M- AB = 25.01, uncorrected for internal extinction), with a stellar structure composed of a conspicuous central source and an extended envelope. The central source is an unresolved nucleus that carries 9% of the total flux. The nucleus is co-aligned with the peak of the cold dust emission, and offset by 3.9 kpc from the ultraviolet stellar emission. The diffuse stellar envelope is similar in size (3.6 kpc effective radius) to the clumpy CO molecular gas distribution. The centroid of the stellar envelope is offset by 1 kpc from the unresolved nucleus, suggesting GN20 is involved in an interaction or merger event supported by its location as the brightest galaxy in a proto-cluster. Additional faint stellar clumps appear to be associated with some of the UV- and CO-clumps. The stellar size of GN20 is larger by a factor of about 3 to 5 than known spheroids, disks, and irregulars at z similar to 4, while its size and low Sersic index are similar to those measured in dusty, infrared luminous galaxies at redshift 2 of the same mass (similar to 10(11) M-circle dot). GN20 has all the ingredients necessary for evolving into a massive spheroidal quiescent galaxy at intermediate redshift: it is a large, luminous galaxy at z = 4.05 involved in a short and massive starburst centred in the stellar nucleus and extended over the entire galaxy, out to radii of 4 kpc, and likely induced by the interaction or merger with a member of the proto-cluster.

  • Properties and redshift evolution of star-forming galaxies with high [0 III]/[O II] ratios with MUSE at 0.28 < z < 0.85
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Astronomy and Astrophysics. - : EDP Sciences. - 0004-6361 .- 1432-0746. ; 618
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present a study of the [O III]/[O II] ratios of star-forming galaxies drawn from Multi-Unit Spectroscopic Explorer (MUSE) data spanning a redshift range 0.28 < z < 0.85. Recently discovered Lyman continuum (LyC) emitters have extremely high oxygen line ratios: [O III]lambda 5007/[O II]lambda lambda 3726, 3729 > 4. Here we aim to understand the properties and the occurrences of galaxies with such high line ratios. Combining data from several MUSE Guaranteed Time Observing (GTO) programmes, we select a population of star-forming galaxies with bright emission lines, from which we draw 406 galaxies for our analysis based on their position in the z-dependent star formation rate (SFR) stellar mass (M*) plane. Out of this sample 15 are identified as extreme oxygen emitters based on their [O III]/[O II] ratios (3.7%) and 104 galaxies have [O III]/[O II] > 1 (26%). Our analysis shows no significant correlation between M*, SFR, and the distance from the SFR M, relation with [O III]/[O II]. We find a decrease in the fraction of galaxies with [O III]/[O II] > 1 with increasing M*, however, this is most likely a result of the relationship between [O III]/[O II] and metallicity, rather than between [O III]/[O II] and M. We draw a comparison sample of local analogues with < z > 0.03 from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, and find similar incidence rates for this sample. In order to investigate the evolution in the fraction of high [O III]/[O II] emitters with redshift, we bin the sample into three redshift subsamples of equal number, but find no evidence for a dependence on redshift. Furthermore, we compare the observed line ratios with those predicted by nebular models with no LyC escape and find that most of the extreme oxygen emitters can be reproduced by low metallicity models. The remaining galaxies are likely LyC emitter candidates.

  • MIDIS : Strong (H beta plus [OIII]) and Ha Emitters at Redshift z similar or equal to 7-8 Unveiled with JWST NIRCam and MIRI Imaging in the Hubble eXtreme Deep Field
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Astrophysical Journal. - 0004-637X .- 1538-4357. ; 952:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We make use of JWST medium-band and broadband NIRCam imaging, along with ultradeep MIRI 5.6 mu m imaging, in the Hubble eXtreme Deep Field to identify prominent line emitters at z similar or equal to 7-8. Out of a total of 58 galaxies at z similar or equal to 7-8, we find 18 robust candidates ( similar or equal to 31%) for (H beta + [O III]) emitters, based on their enhanced fluxes in the F430M and F444W filters, with EW0(H beta +[O III]) similar or equal to 87-2100 angstrom. Among these emitters, 16 lie in the MIRI coverage area and 12 exhibit a clear flux excess at 5.6 mu m, indicating the simultaneous presence of a prominent Ha emission line with EW0(H alpha) similar or equal to 200-3000 angstrom. This is the first time that H alpha emission can be detected in individual galaxies at z > 7. The Ha line, when present, allows us to separate the contributions of H beta and [O III] to the (H beta +[O III]) complex and derive Ha-based star formation rates (SFRs). We find that in most cases [O III]/ H beta > 1. Instead, two galaxies have [O III]/H beta < 1, indicating that the NIRCam flux excess is mainly driven by H beta. Most prominent line emitters are very young starbursts or galaxies on their way to/from the starburst cloud. They make for a cosmic SFR density log(10)( rho(SFRH alpha) (M-circle dot yr(-1) Mpc))similar or equal to - 2.351 3 which is about a quarter of the total value (log(10)( SFR (M-circle dot yr(-1) Mpc))similar or equal to - 1.761 3 ) at z similar or equal to 7-8. Therefore, the strong Ha emitters likely had a significant role in reionization.

  • Friction in sheet metal forming : Influence of surface roughness and strain rate on sheet metal forming simulation results

However, the introduction of a new friction model in the sheet metal forming simulations forces the user to gain knowledge about accurate values for new input parameters and question current modeling assumptions. This paper presents results from studies on the influence on the sheet metal forming simulation results from stamping die surface roughness and introduction of strain rate sensitivity in the sheet material model. The study will use a FE-model of a part presented in previous papers. © 2019 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

  • The MUSE-Wide Survey : survey description and first data release
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Astronomy and Astrophysics. - : EDP Sciences. - 0004-6361 .- 1432-0746. ; 624
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present the MUSE-Wide survey, a blind, 3D spectroscopic survey in the CANDELS/GOODS-S and CANDELS/COSMOS regions. The final survey will cover 100 x 1 arcmin(2) MUSE fields. Each MUSE-Wide pointing has a depth of one hour and hence targets more extreme and more luminous objects over ten times the area of the MUSE-Deep fields. The legacy value of MUSE-Wide lies in providing spectroscopy of everything without photometric pre-selection. We describe the data reduction, post-processing and PSF characterization of the first 44 CANDELS /GOODS-S MUSE-Wide pointings released with this publication. Using a 3D matched filtering approach we detect 1602 emission line sources, including 479 Lyman-alpha (Ly alpha) emitting galaxies with redshifts 2.9 less than or similar to z less than or similar to 6.3. We cross-matched the emission line sources to existing photometric catalogs, finding almost complete agreement in redshifts (photometric and spectroscopic) and stellar masses for our low redshift (z < 1.5) emitters. At high redshift, we only find similar to 55% matches to photometric catalogs. We encounter a higher outlier rate and a systematic offset of Delta z similar or equal to 0.2 when comparing our MUSE redshifts with photometric redshifts from the literature. Cross-matching the emission line sources with X-ray catalogs from the Chandra Deep Field South, we find 127 matches, mostly in agreement with the literature redshifts, including ten objects with no prior spectroscopic identification. Stacking X-ray images centered on our Ly alpha emitters yields no signal; the Ly alpha population is not dominated by even low luminosity AGN. Other cross-matches of our emission-line catalog to radio and submillimeter data, yielded far lower numbers of matches, most of which already were covered by the X-ray catalog. A total of 9205 photometrically selected objects from the CANDELS survey lie in the MUSE-Wide footprint, of which we provide optimally extracted 1D spectra. We are able to determine the spectroscopic redshift of 98% of 772 photometrically selected galaxies brighter than 24th F775W magnitude. All the data in the first data release - datacubes, catalogs, extracted spectra, maps - are available on the MUSE-Wide data release webpage.
