  • Advanced opportunities and insights on the influence of nitrogen incorporation on the physico-/electro-chemical properties of robust electrocatalysts for electrocatalytic energy conversion
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Coordination chemistry reviews. - : Elsevier. - 0010-8545 .- 1873-3840. ; 449
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The use of a wide range of methods for incorporating nitrogen atoms on robust catalysts has given rise to fundamental advances in the field of energy conversion and storage. Recently, nitrogen incorporation has proven to be able to fine-tune the electron densities of exposed active sites to create high-performance electrocatalysts. The preservation of a strong interface between the local atomic coordination of nitrogen atoms on bare carbon, single metal atoms, transition metal oxides, metal chalcogenides, and MXenes during synthesis plays an important role in producing an efficient electrocatalysts. In addition, the ability of nitrogen atoms to bind with carbon or metal atoms can be influenced by processing conditions. In this regard, this review is the first comprehensive overview of the range of synthetic strategies to form nitrogen incorporated catalysts and assess their chemical, structural, physical electronic property modification and their influence on electrocatalytic ORR, OER, and HER performance. This review will describe how specific strategies have been utilized to realise effective electrocatalytic systems, including the energy conversion of nitrogen incorporated catalysts, structural coordination, and material optimization. Finally, the main challenges to be considered in future investigations in order to initiate new research efforts in this promising research area are discussed.

  • Deploying an AUV beneath the Sorsdal Ice Shelf: Recommendations from an expert-panel workshop
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: AUV 2018 - 2018 IEEE/OES Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Workshop. 6-9 Nov. 2018, Porto, Portugal. Proceedings. - : IEEE. - 1522-3167 .- 2377-6536. - 9781728102542
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • © 2018 IEEE. To support future scientific missions beneath Antarctic ice shelves, the Antarctic Gateway Partnership, a special research initiative of the Australian Research Council, is trialling its Autonomous Underwater Vehicle, nupiri muka, at the Sorsdal Glacier in East Antarctica. As history has shown, deploying an AUV beneath ice is both challenging and inherently risky. To support the planning and execution of this mission a panel of experts were invited to participate in a workshop to provide both peer-review of the readiness of the AUV and team, and, to establish a set of recommendations and best-practices to maximise the data return and minimise the risk. This panel consisted of those working in the area of AUVs, Polar operations, and those with relevant experience.Recommendations from this panel included strict definition of mission objectives, a risk analysis methodology, and plans for a dress rehearsal. In addition a staged approach was formulated to both validate the AUV performance and parametrise the environment to reduce uncertainty.

  • Effect of bias conditions on pressure sensors based on AlGaN/GaN High Electron Mobility Transistor
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Sensors and Actuators A-Physical. - : Elsevier BV. - 0924-4247 .- 1873-3069. ; 194, s. 247-251
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This work reports the bias and pressure sensitivity of AlGaN/GaN High Electron Mobility Transistors (HEMTs) sensing elements strategically placed on a pressure sensitive diaphragm clamped at its edges. The sensitivity was over 150 times greater in the weak inversion regime than in the strong inversion regime of the HEMT, leading to a drain current change of >38% when a pressure of 50 bar was applied. The sensitivity of the HEMT to pressure followed an exponential dependence from atmospheric pressure up to 80 bar, behaviour explained by the response of the density of a two-dimensional electron gas to pressure induced changes in the HEMT threshold voltage in the weak inversion regime. Finally, it was found that the sensitivity of the HEMT was maximum when it was situated in the middle of the diaphragm, whereas a device mounted over the clamping point showed less than 0.02% change in drain current when pressure change of 50 bar was applied.

  • Rarity of the Alzheimer Disease-Protective APP A673T Variant in the United States.
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: JAMA neurology. - : American Medical Association (AMA). - 2168-6157 .- 2168-6149. ; 72:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Recently, a rare variant in the amyloid precursor protein gene (APP) was described in a population from Iceland. This variant, in which alanine is replaced by threonine at position 673 (A673T), appears to protect against late-onset Alzheimer disease (AD). We evaluated the frequency of this variant in AD cases and cognitively normal controls to determine whether this variant will significantly contribute to risk assessment in individuals in the United States.

  • The cancer genome atlas pan-cancer analysis project
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Nature Genetics. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1546-1718 .- 1061-4036. ; 45:10, s. 1113-1120
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) Research Network has profiled and analyzed large numbers of human tumors to discover molecular aberrations at the DNA, RNA, protein and epigenetic levels. The resulting rich data provide a major opportunity to develop an integrated picture of commonalities, differences and emergent themes across tumor lineages. The Pan-Cancer initiative compares the first 12 tumor types profiled by TCGA. Analysis of the molecular aberrations and their functional roles across tumor types will teach us how to extend therapies effective in one cancer type to others with a similar genomic profile. © 2013 Nature America, Inc. • New materials for micro-scale sensors and actuators An engineering review
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Materials science & engineering. R, Reports. - : Elsevier BV. - 0927-796X .- 1879-212X. ; 56:06-jan, s. 1-129
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper provides a detailed overview of developments in transducer materials technology relating to their current and future applications in micro-scale devices. Recent advances in piezoelectric, magnetostrictive and shape-memory alloy systems are discussed and emerging transducer materials such as magnetic nanoparticles, expandable micro-spheres and conductive polymers are introduced. Materials properties, transducer mechanisms and end applications are described and the potential for integration of the materials with ancillary systems components is viewed as an essential consideration. The review concludes with a short discussion of structural polymers that are extending the range of micro-fabrication techniques available to designers and production engineers beyond the limitations of silicon fabrication technology.
