  • Single belt casting. A promising technique for the production of steel strip
  • 1997
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian journal of metallurgy. - 0371-0459 .- 1600-0692. ; 26:6, s. 242-248
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The ongoing struggle to reduce the production costs in steelmaking is one of the important driving forces for R&D engineers. By combining new technical solutions from different areas with new ideas for steelmaking, it is possible to find new cost effective processes for steel production. During the last decade, great efforts have been made worldwide to develop new techniques for near net shape casting of steel. Most of these projects have dealt with production of steel strip. This paper describes the work carried out at MEFOS to develop the DSC (Direct Strip Casting) process. The process is based on the horizontal single belt principle. Based upon the experience to date, we can conclude that belt casting is a technology suitable for high productivity demands, e.g., for mass production of low carbon steels. © Munksgaard, 1997.

  • Development and validation of an interpretable machine learning-based calculator for predicting 5-year weight trajectories after bariatric surgery: a multinational retrospective cohort SOPHIA study.
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: The Lancet. Digital health. - 2589-7500. ; 5:10
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Weight loss trajectories after bariatric surgery vary widely between individuals, and predicting weight loss before the operation remains challenging. We aimed to develop a model using machine learning to provide individual preoperative prediction of 5-year weight loss trajectories after surgery. In this multinational retrospective observational study we enrolled adult participants (aged ≥18 years) from ten prospective cohorts (including ABOS [NCT01129297], BAREVAL [NCT02310178], the Swedish Obese Subjects study, and a large cohort from the Dutch Obesity Clinic [Nederlandse Obesitas Kliniek]) and two randomised trials (SleevePass [NCT00793143] and SM-BOSS [NCT00356213]) in Europe, the Americas, and Asia, with a 5 year follow-up after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, or gastric band. Patients with a previous history of bariatric surgery or large delays between scheduled and actual visits were excluded. The training cohort comprised patients from two centres in France (ABOS and BAREVAL). The primary outcome was BMI at 5 years. A model was developed using least absolute shrinkage and selection operator to select variables and the classification and regression trees algorithm to build interpretable regression trees. The performances of the model were assessed through the median absolute deviation (MAD) and root mean squared error (RMSE) of BMI.10231 patients from 12 centres in ten countries were included in the analysis, corresponding to 30602 patient-years. Among participants in all 12 cohorts, 7701 (75·3%) were female, 2530 (24·7%) were male. Among 434 baseline attributes available in the training cohort, seven variables were selected: height, weight, intervention type, age, diabetes status, diabetes duration, and smoking status. At 5 years, across external testing cohorts the overall mean MAD BMI was 2·8 kg/m2 (95% CI 2·6-3·0) and mean RMSE BMI was 4·7 kg/m2 (4·4-5·0), and the mean difference between predicted and observed BMI was -0·3 kg/m2 (SD 4·7). This model is incorporated in an easy to use and interpretable web-based prediction tool to help inform clinical decision before surgery. We developed a machine learning-based model, which is internationally validated, for predicting individual 5-year weight loss trajectories after three common bariatric interventions.SOPHIA Innovative Medicines Initiative 2 Joint Undertaking, supported by the EU's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme, the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations, Type 1 Diabetes Exchange, and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and Obesity Action Coalition; Métropole Européenne de Lille; Agence Nationale de la Recherche; Institut national de recherche en sciences et technologies du numérique through the Artificial Intelligence chair Apprenf; Université de Lille Nord Europe's I-SITE EXPAND as part of the Bandits For Health project; Laboratoire d'excellence European Genomic Institute for Diabetes; Soutien aux Travaux Interdisciplinaires, Multi-établissements et Exploratoires programme by Conseil Régional Hauts-de-France (volet partenarial phase 2, project PERSO-SURG).

  • Subjective prerequisites for the construction of an objective world
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Consciousness and emotion. Agency, conscious choice, and selective perception. (Consciousness & emotion book series ;1 ). - 9027232288 - 1588115968 ; , s. 3-21
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Starting with the assumption that perception is not merely a reaction to outside stimulation but a process of creation, although mostly brief and inaccessible to conscious retrieval, the present paper attempts to determine the prerequisites of a stable and secure accout of reality. The authors’ leading hypothesis is that a dependable end product of adaptive and constructive processes is contingent on open communication with its subjective/emotional origins. A number of experiments offer empirical support for such an assumption. These experiments also address problems associated with creative functioning, anxiety, and defensive strategies. The general conclusion of this survey is that how we conceive of the outside world is determined, not only by the terminal stages of adaptive and constructive processes but by the entire course of these events, including its subjective/emotional origins.

  • Placenta accreta spectrum-A single-center retrospective observational cohort study of multidisciplinary management over time
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Gynecology & Obstetrics. - : Wiley. - 0020-7292 .- 1879-3479. ; 159:1, s. 270-278
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective To evaluate whether the results of a previous study that showed a decrease in blood loss and transfusions with a multidisciplinary approach, including a fixed team when delivering women diagnosed with placenta accreta spectrum at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, remained low throughout time, and to investigate hospital stay and maternal and neonatal complications during a time period with varying team structure compared with previous periods. Methods A retrospective observational cohort study comparing data from medical records including three cohorts of women diagnosed with placenta accreta spectrum between October 2003 and December 2020. Cohort 1 consisted of women delivered before the multidisciplinary approach was introduced. Cohort 2 and cohort 3 were both managed in a multidisciplinary manner, but while cohort 2 was managed by a fixed team, cohort 3 was managed by several different senior specialists. The data were analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis test. Results Blood loss and need for transfusion were significantly lower for cohort 3 and cohort 2 compared with cohort 1. No significant difference was found between cohort 3 and cohort 2. Conclusion The multidisciplinary management and surgical method employed at Sahlgrenska University Hospital have lowered blood loss and the need for transfusions, even over time.
