  • Selective Synthesis of Imines by Photo-Oxidative Amine Cross-Condensation Catalyzed by PCN-222(Pd)
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: ACS Sustainable Chemistry and Engineering. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 2168-0485. ; 9:43, s. 14405-14415
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Palladium-metalated PCN-222 enables the aerobic photo-oxidative cross-condensation of anilines with benzylic amines yielding a series of linear and cyclic imines. The reaction is very efficient under mild conditions, which allows the isolation of simple, yet elusive, intermediates such as 2-(benzylideneamino)-aniline and 2-(benzylideneamino)phenols. Recyclability studies show excellent activity and selectivity after five runs. The methodology was successfully applied for the synthesis of an antitumor agent (PMX-610).

  • Selective Synthesis of Imines via Photooxidative AmineCross-Condensation Catalyzed by PCN-222(Pd)
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Palladium metallated PCN-222 enables the selective cross-condensation of anilines with benzylic aminesunder photooxidative conditions and at ambient temperature. The method affords a series of linear and cyclic Schiffbases. The mild conditions used in this catalytic system results in the isolation of resourceful intermediates such as 2-(benzylideneamino)aniline and 2-(benzylideneamino)phenols, which can be further modified.

  • Fast and Robust Synthesis of Metalated PCN-222 and Their Catalytic Performance in Cycloaddition Reactions with CO2
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Organometallics. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 0276-7333 .- 1520-6041. ; 38:18, s. 3429-3435
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A simple and quick setup for the synthesis of PCN-222 and of a variety of metalated PCN-222(Co, Ni, Cu, and Zn), using of a microwave reactor, is reported for CO2 fixation. Metalation of prophyrins by microwave heating has been evaluated through UV-vis titration. PCN-222(M) were obtained in a three-step, one-pot reaction in a remarkable 72% yield in only 30 min. The materials have been characterized using a variety of techniques. A study of CO2 fixation through cycloaddition with epoxides and azidirines using metalated PCNs as catalysts is described. Cyclic carbonates and oxazolidinones were formed using CO2 at atmospheric pressure under mild conditions. Higher activity was observed when PCN-222(Co) was used compared to that with PCN-222(Ni, Cu, Zn).

  • Metal-Organic Frameworks for the Development of Biosensors : A Current Overview
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Biosensors. - : MDPI AG. - 2079-6374. ; 8:4
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This review focuses on the fabrication of biosensors using metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as recognition and/or transducer elements. A brief introduction discussing the importance of the development of new biosensor schemes is presented, describing these coordination polymers, their properties, applications, and the main advantages and drawbacks for the final goal. The increasing number of publications regarding the characteristics of these materials and the new micro- and nanofabrication techniques allowing the preparation of more accurate, robust, and sensitive biosensors are also discussed. This work aims to offer a new perspective from the point of view of materials science compared to other reviews focusing on the transduction mechanism or the nature of the analyte. A few examples are discussed depending on the starting materials, the integration of the MOF as a part of the biosensor and, in a deep detail, the fabrication procedure.

  • One-step microwave-assisted synthesis of amino-functionalized chromium(III) terephthalate MIL-101-NH2
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Materials Today Chemistry. - 2468-5194. ; 31
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A single-step microwave (MW)-assisted protocol for the synthesis of MIL-101(Cr) and of MIL-101(Cr)-NH2 is described herein, based on the addition of NaF as the modulator instead of hydrofluoric acid to obtain the corresponding polymers in only 1 h with high crystallinity and yields (>70%, 0.5 g). Compared to classic solvothermal protocols (12-72 h, <30%), MW-assisted synthesis allowed shorter reaction time and improved yields, replacing N,N-dimethylformamide by water. Physicochemical properties of MIL-101(Cr)-NH2 and MIL-101(Cr) obtained through this MW-assisted procedure are more homogenous than those observed for the corresponding solvothermal counterparts, and interestingly, enhanced higher control over nanometric particle size (80-130 vs 400-1000 nm), lower polydispersity, and higher Brunauer-Emett-Teller surface area (2000-2700 vs 1800-2300 m2/g) were observed because of the better accessibility and diffusion of gases throughout the internal pores.& COPY; 2023 The Authors. • Phylogeography of Ramalina farinacea (Lichenized Fungi, Ascomycota) in the Mediterranean Basin, Europe, and Macaronesia
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Diversity. - : MDPI. - 1424-2818. ; 15:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Ramalina farinacea is an epiphytic lichen-forming fungus with a broad geographic distribution, especially in the Northern Hemisphere. In the eighties of the last century, it was hypothesized that R. farinacea had originated in the Macaronesian–Mediterranean region, with the Canary Islands as its probable southernmost limit, and thereafter it would have increased its distribution area. In order to explore the phylogeography of this emblematic lichen, we analyzed 120 thalli of R. farinacea collected in 38 localities distributed in temperate and boreal Europe, the Western Mediterranean Basin, and several Macaronesian archipelagos in the Atlantic Ocean. Data from two nuclear markers (nrITS and uid70) of the mycobiont were obtained to calculate genetic diversity indices to infer the phylogenies and haplotype networks and to investigate population structure. In addition, dating analysis was conducted to provide a valuable hypothesis of the timing of the origin and diversification of R. farinacea and its close allies. Our results highlight that phylogenetic species circumscription in the “Ramalina farinacea group” is complex and suggests that incomplete lineage sorting is at the base of conflicting phylogenetic signals. The existence of a high number of haplotypes restricted to the Macaronesian region, together with the diversification of R. farinacea in the Pleistocene, suggests that this species and its closest relatives originated during relatively recent geological times and then expanded its range to higher latitudes. However, our data cannot rule out whether the species originated from the Macaronesian archipelagos exclusively or also from the Mediterranean Basin. In conclusion, the present work provides a valuable biogeographical hypothesis for disentangling the evolution of this epiphytic lichen in space and time.

  • Molecularly Imprinted Polymer-Based Hybrid Materials for the Development of Optical Sensors
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Polymers. - : MDPI AG. - 2073-4360. ; 11:7
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report on the development of new optical sensors using molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) combined with different materials and explore the novel strategies followed in order to overcome some of the limitations found during the last decade in terms of performance. This review pretends to off er a general overview, mainly focused on the last 3 years, on how the new fabrication procedures enable the synthesis of hybrid materials enhancing not only the recognition ability of the polymer but the optical signal. Introduction describes MIPs as biomimetic recognition elements, their properties and applications, emphasizing on each step of the fabrication/recognition procedure. The state of the art is presented and the change in the publication trend between electrochemical and optical sensor devices is thoroughly discussed according to the new fabrication and micro/nano-structuring techniques paving the way for a new generation of MIP-based optical sensors. We want to off er the reader a different perspective based on the materials science in contrast to other overviews. Different substrates for anchoring MIPs are considered and distributed in different sections according to the dimensionality and the nature of the composite, highlighting the synergetic effect obtained as a result of merging both materials to achieve the final goal.

  • 12-year evolution of multimorbidity patterns among older adults based on Hidden Markov Models
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Aging. - : Impact Journals, LLC. - 1945-4589. ; 14:24, s. 9805-9817
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: The evolution of multimorbidity patterns during aging is still an under-researched area. We lack evidence concerning the time spent by older adults within one same multimorbidity pattern, and their transitional probability across different patterns when further chronic diseases arise. The aim of this study is to fill this gap by exploring multimorbidity patterns across decades of age in older adults, and longitudinal dynamics among these patterns. Methods: Longitudinal study based on the Swedish National study on Aging and Care in Kungsholmen (SNAC-K) on adults ≥60 years (N=3,363). Hidden Markov Models were applied to model the temporal evolution of both multimorbidity patterns and individuals' transitions over a 12-year follow-up.Findings: Within the study population (mean age 76.1 years, 66.6% female), 87.2% had ≥2 chronic conditions at baseline. Four longitudinal multimorbidity patterns were identified for each decade. Individuals in all decades showed the shortest permanence time in an Unspecific pattern lacking any overrepresented diseases (range: 4.6-10.9 years), but the pattern with the longest permanence time varied by age. Sexagenarians remained longest in the Psychiatric-endocrine and sensorial pattern (15.4 years); septuagenarians in the Neuro-vascular and skin-sensorial pattern (11.0 years); and octogenarians and beyond in the Neuro-sensorial pattern (8.9 years). Transition probabilities varied across decades, sexagenarians showing the highest levels of stability.Interpretation: Our findings highlight the dynamism and heterogeneity underlying multimorbidity by quantifying the varying permanence times and transition probabilities across patterns in different decades. With increasing age, older adults experience decreasing stability and progressively shorter permanence time within one same multimorbidity pattern.

  • Aerobic Homocoupling of Arylboronic Acids Catalyzed by Regenerable Pd(II)@MIL-88B-NH2(Cr)
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: ChemCatChem. - : Wiley. - 1867-3880 .- 1867-3899. ; 11:16, s. 3933-3940
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A fast and operationally simple method for the aerobic homocoupling of arylboronic acids is described. The process is catalyzed by Pd(II) complexes supported on the metal-organic framework MIL-88B-NH2(Cr). The benefits of this approach include the use of a benign oxidant/solvent mixture at room temperature with catalytic amounts of base, easy recovery of the catalyst, and easy isolation of the products. Very high conversions and good yields were achieved for a variety of substrates, and the process was also carried out on a larger scale with the same efficiency. The catalyst was found to suffer deactivation due to progressive reduction and agglomeration of palladium into inactive metal clusters/particles. An innovative procedure for the oxidative redispersion and regeneration of the active Pd(II)@MOF species is presented.
