  • Letting Drivers Know What is Going on in Traffic
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Advances in Intelligent Vehicles. - 9780123971999 ; , s. 291-318
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • There are many different Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS) that have been developed and are currently under development. Some of them are already on the market. These systems can be categorized into information/warning, active assistance/semi-automation, and full/high automation. The bottleneck of ADAS technology's application in vehicles is the Human-Machine Interface (HMI) design. In the present situation, the information from ADAS is normally presented by warning signals to the driver on potentially hazardous situations in traffic. In general, a warning signal is regarded as an unpleasant stimulation. If we take the time perspective from a normal drive to crash into consideration, we can divide the drive into three phases: normal drive in comfort zone, pre-crash in safety zone, and automation when the driver loses control. Warning design has many negative issues, such as the time issue, the modality issue, information transparency, and the false alarm issue. The idealistic way to assist drivers is to enhance their traffic situation awareness so they can always keep their driving in a comfort zone, and to support them with the right information, so that they can predict upcoming events in traffic, prepare for unpredictable occurrences, and take appropriate action if necessary. From warning design to letting the driver know what is going on in traffic, the HMI design needs to meet dynamic requirements for drivers in different traffic situations. These challenges are very different from warning designs. © 2014 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

  • The future of advanced driving assistance system development in China
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: 2011 IEEE International Conference on Vehicular Electronics and Safety, ICVES 2011; Beijing; 10 July 2011 through 12 July 2011. - 9781457705762 ; , s. 238-243
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Nowadays, with the rapid development of vehicle industry in China, an increasing number of companies realized the importance of culture adaption, when implementing ADAS (Advanced Driving Assistance System) to the vehicles in China. However, some designing issues of these systems need to be solved, taking consideration of driver's behavior and traffic situation in China. There is a lack of studies on Chinese drivers and related to HMI design of ADAS systems in the literature. There are limited reports on Chinese traffic and drivers studies, but still lack of the necessary depth. Some interaction design methodologies, including personas, focus group study, questionnaire and so on, were used in these reports. However, these studies are neither intensive nor comprehensive. Although (part of) the issues are brought up and analyzed, only general solutions are mentioned for the designing of the systems. Present paper, through literature review, indicated different areas that need to be focused on that are related to culture issues and the possible methodologies that can be applied.

  • Atmospheric mercury pollution in the xi’an area, china, studied by differential absorption lidar
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Atmosphere. - : MDPI AG. - 2073-4433. ; 12:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Measurements of the atmospheric concentration of polluting atomic mercury were performed using the differential absorption lidar (DIAL) technique in the Lintong district, about 35 km northeast of Xi’an, the capital of the Shaanxi province, China. Concentrations ranging from 2 to 13 ng/m3 were observed. As uniquely enabled by the lidar technique, representative average concentrations, integrated over a considerable volume, were recorded and put in relation to weather conditions, and vertical concentration profiles were measured. Considerable local non-uniformities were also observed, which may indicate the presence of localized hot-spots in the area, possibly related to ancient tombs.

  • Optical characterization of Chinese hybrid rice using laser-induced fluorescence techniques—laboratory and remote-sensing measurements
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Applied Optics. - 1559-128X. ; 57:13, s. 3481-3487
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Chinese hybrid rice of different varieties, growing in paddies in the Pingqiao district, north of Xinyang city, Henan province, China, was studied in detailed spectroscopic characteristics using laser-induced fluorescence. The base for the studies was the new South China Normal University mobile lidar laboratory, which was dispatched on site, providing facilities both for laboratory studies using a 405 nm excitation source as well as remote sensing measurements at ranges from around 40 m–120 m, mostly employing the 532 nm output from a Nd:YAG laser. We, in particular, studied the spectral influence of the species varieties as well as the level of nitrogen fertilization supplied. Specially developed contrast functions as well as multivariate techniques with principal components and Fisher’s discriminate analyses were applied, and useful characterization of the rice could be achieved. The chlorophyll content mapping of the 30 zones was obtained with the remote sensing measurements.

  • Mixed halide perovskites for spectrally stable and high-efficiency blue light-emitting diodes
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Nature Communications. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 2041-1723. ; 12:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Bright and efficient blue emission is key to further development of metal halide perovskite light-emitting diodes. Although modifying bromide/chloride composition is straightforward to achieve blue emission, practical implementation of this strategy has been challenging due to poor colour stability and severe photoluminescence quenching. Both detrimental effects become increasingly prominent in perovskites with the high chloride content needed to produce blue emission. Here, we solve these critical challenges in mixed halide perovskites and demonstrate spectrally stable blue perovskite light-emitting diodes over a wide range of emission wavelengths from 490 to 451 nanometres. The emission colour is directly tuned by modifying the halide composition. Particularly, our blue and deep-blue light-emitting diodes based on three-dimensional perovskites show high EQE values of 11.0% and 5.5% with emission peaks at 477 and 467 nm, respectively. These achievements are enabled by a vapour-assisted crystallization technique, which largely mitigates local compositional heterogeneity and ion migration.

  • Role of chloride on the instability of blue emitting mixed-halide perovskites
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: FRONTIERS OF OPTOELECTRONICS. - : HIGHER EDUCATION PRESS. - 2095-2759. ; 16:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Although perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) have seen unprecedented development in device efficiency over the past decade, they suffer significantly from poor operational stability. This is especially true for blue PeLEDs, whose operational lifetime remains orders of magnitude behind their green and red counterparts. Here, we systematically investigate this efficiency-stability discrepancy in a series of green- to blue-emitting PeLEDs based on mixed Br/Cl-perovskites. We find that chloride incorporation, while having only a limited impact on efficiency, detrimentally affects device stability even in small amounts. Device lifetime drops exponentially with increasing Cl-content, accompanied by an increased rate of change in electrical properties during operation. We ascribe this phenomenon to an increased mobility of halogen ions in the mixed-halide lattice due to an increased chemically and structurally disordered landscape with reduced migration barriers. Our results indicate that the stability enhancement for PeLEDs might require different strategies from those used for improving efficiency.

  • Guidelines for the use and interpretation of assays for monitoring autophagy
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Autophagy. - : Informa UK Limited. - 1554-8635 .- 1554-8627. ; 8:4, s. 445-544
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In 2008 we published the first set of guidelines for standardizing research in autophagy. Since then, research on this topic has continued to accelerate, and many new scientists have entered the field. Our knowledge base and relevant new technologies have also been expanding. Accordingly, it is important to update these guidelines for monitoring autophagy in different organisms. Various reviews have described the range of assays that have been used for this purpose. Nevertheless, there continues to be confusion regarding acceptable methods to measure autophagy, especially in multicellular eukaryotes. A key point that needs to be emphasized is that there is a difference between measurements that monitor the numbers or volume of autophagic elements (e.g., autophagosomes or autolysosomes) at any stage of the autophagic process vs. those that measure flux through the autophagy pathway (i.e., the complete process); thus, a block in macroautophagy that results in autophagosome accumulation needs to be differentiated from stimuli that result in increased autophagic activity, defined as increased autophagy induction coupled with increased delivery to, and degradation within, lysosomes (in most higher eukaryotes and some protists such as Dictyostelium) or the vacuole (in plants and fungi). In other words, it is especially important that investigators new to the field understand that the appearance of more autophagosomes does not necessarily equate with more autophagy. In fact, in many cases, autophagosomes accumulate because of a block in trafficking to lysosomes without a concomitant change in autophagosome biogenesis, whereas an increase in autolysosomes may reflect a reduction in degradative activity. Here, we present a set of guidelines for the selection and interpretation of methods for use by investigators who aim to examine macroautophagy and related processes, as well as for reviewers who need to provide realistic and reasonable critiques of papers that are focused on these processes. These guidelines are not meant to be a formulaic set of rules, because the appropriate assays depend in part on the question being asked and the system being used. In addition, we emphasize that no individual assay is guaranteed to be the most appropriate one in every situation, and we strongly recommend the use of multiple assays to monitor autophagy. In these guidelines, we consider these various methods of assessing autophagy and what information can, or cannot, be obtained from them. Finally, by discussing the merits and limits of particular autophagy assays, we hope to encourage technical innovation in the field.

  • Novel AQP2 Mutations and Clinical Characteristics in Seven Chinese Families With Congenital Nephrogenic Diabetes Insipidus
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Frontiers in Endocrinology. - : Frontiers Media S.A.. - 1664-2392. ; 12
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective: Mutations in AQP2 (aquaporin-2) lead to rare congenital nephrogenic diabetes insipidus (NDI), which has been limitedly studied in Chinese population. Methods: Twenty-five subjects from seven families with NDI in a department (Beijing, PUMCH) were screened for AQP2 mutations. Clinical characteristics were described and genotype-phenotype correlation analysis was performed. Results: We identified 9 AQP2 mutations in 13 patients with NDI, including 3 novel AQP2 mutations (p.G165D, p.Q255RfsTer72 and IVS3-3delC). Missense mutations were the most common mutation type, followed by splicing mutations, and frameshift mutations caused by small deletion or insertion. The onset-age in our patients was younger than 1 year old. Common manifestations included polydipsia, polyuria (7/7) and intermittent fever (6/7). Less common presentations included short stature (3/7) and mental impairment (1/7). High osmotic hypernatremia and low osmotic urine were the main biochemical features. Dilation of the urinary tract was a common complication of NDI (3/6). Level of serum sodium in NDI patients with compound het AQP2 mutations was higher than non-compound het mutations. Conclusion: In the first and largest case series of NDI caused by AQP2 mutation in Chinese population, we identified 9 AQP2 mutations, including 3 novel mutations. Phenotype was found to correlate with genotypes, revealed by higher level of serum sodium in patients with compound het AQP2 mutations than non-compound het mutations. This knowledge broadens genotypic and phenotypic spectrum for rare congenital NDI and provided basis for studying molecular biology of AQP2.

  • Optical characterization of agricultural pest insects : a methodological study in the spectral and time domains
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Applied Physics B: Lasers and Optics. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0946-2171. ; 122:8
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Identification of agricultural pest insects is an important aspect in insect research and agricultural monitoring. We have performed a methodological study of how spectroscopic techniques and wing-beat frequency analysis might provide relevant information. An optical system based on the combination of close-range remote sensing and reflectance spectroscopy was developed to study the optical characteristics of different flying insects, collected in Southern China. The results demonstrate that the combination of wing-beat frequency assessment and reflectance spectral analysis has the potential to successfully differentiate between insect species. Further, studies of spectroscopic characteristics of fixed specimen of insects, also from Central China, showed the possibility of refined agricultural pest identification. Here, in addition to reflectance recordings also laser-induced fluorescence spectra were investigated for all the species of insects under study and found to provide complementary information to optically distinguish insects. In order to prove the practicality of the techniques explored, clearly fieldwork aiming at elucidating the variability of parameters, even within species, must be performed.

  • Tuning electronic and magnetic properties of armchair vertical bar zigzag hybrid graphene nanoribbons by the choice of supercell model of grain boundaries
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Journal of Applied Physics. - : AIP Publishing. - 0021-8979 .- 1089-7550. ; 115:10, s. 104303-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Grain boundaries (GBs) attract much interest for its ability to tune the property of hybrid materials. Theoretically predicting the properties of hybrid graphene with GBs, even a linear GB remains challenging due to its inhomogeneous structure, which makes supercell model tough to choose in theoretic studies. For the first time, the applicability of supercells with different GBs and lattice-mismatches for describing armchair-zigzag hybrid graphene nanoribbons was validated by ab initio molecular dynamic simulations and first principles electronic structure calculations. And to what extent the electronic properties can be tuned by the strain effects resulting from the lattice-mismatch and the GBs distortion in supercells was demonstrated. This work showed that the intrinsic strain in such system plays a decisive role in determining the band structure and spin polarization properties. Hybrid graphene nanoribbon was found to be ferromagnetic in the ground state, especially for the case of using the supercell with nearly-perfect lattice match. Its high Curie temperature suggests the potential applications of this material in spintronics.

  • Lidar mapping of atmospheric atomic mercury in the Wanshan area, China
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Environmental Pollution. - : Elsevier BV. - 0269-7491. ; 240, s. 353-358
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A novel mobile laser radar system was used for mapping gaseous atomic mercury (Hg0) atmospheric pollution in the Wanshan district, south of Tongren City, Guizhou Province, China. This area is heavily impacted by legacy mercury from now abandoned mining activities. Differential absorption lidar measurements were supplemented by localized point monitoring using a Lumex RA-915M Zeeman modulation mercury analyzer. Range-resolved concentration measurements in different directions were performed. Concentrations in the lower atmospheric layers often exceeded levels of 100 ng/m3 for March conditions with temperature ranging from 5 °C to 20 °C. A flux measurement of Hg0 over a vertical cross section of 0.12 km2 resulted in about 29 g/h. Vertical lidar sounding at night revealed quickly falling Hg0 concentrations with height. This is the first lidar mapping demonstration in a heavily mercury-polluted area in China, illustrating the lidar potential in complementing point monitors.

  • 2018
  • Ingår i: IET Intelligent Transport Systems. - : Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). - 1751-9578 .- 1751-956X. ; 12:8, s. 801-808
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A cross-regional study of driving behaviour and technological preferences in typical driving scenarios, especially dangerous pre-crash scenarios, is presented as a contribution to the user experience design of in-vehicle driver assistance functions. Data from 46 participants are collected by one-to-one interviews following viewing of 11 video clips previously obtained from NFOT (Naturalistic Field Operational Tests) and representative of typical real driving scenarios. Six questions relating to each driving scenario are asked to reveal the differences between Chinese drivers and Swedish drivers. The results show similarities and differences in driving risk perceptions, decisions, and preferences concerning the assistance and specifics of potential ADAS functions of drivers in China and Sweden. The preferences for assistance and ADAS functions are found to be correlated with relative driving risk perceptions and decisions in typical driving scenarios for both country groups. Based on the results, some suggestions for the design of driver-vehicle interactions for Chinese drivers are presented.

  • Cross-regional Study on Driver Response Behaviour Patterns and System Acceptance with Triggered Forward Collision Warning
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: 2017 IEEE Intelligent Vehicles Symposium. - 9781509048045 ; , s. 565-570
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Understanding complex behavior patterns in response to triggered forward collision warning system benefits localized user experience design, especially in safety critical scenarios from a cross-regional perspective. This paper studies driver response behavior patterns towards two alarm timings, in car-following scenarios with different traffic density. Data from 32 participants in China and 30 participants in Sweden were collected using a driving simulator. Differences were observedbetween China group and Sweden group regarding responsebehavior patterns, system acceptance and effectiveness. Seen from obtained results, Chinese drivers were found to steer more frequently than Swedish drivers in response to triggered alarm no matter what alarm timing or traffic density there were. Chinese drivers preferred later alarm timing than Swedish drivers. To better design regional-adaptive human machine interaction of forward collision warning system; some suggestions were produced based on obtained results.

  • Effects of local compositional heterogeneity in mixed halide perovskites on blue electroluminescence
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Matter. - 2590-2393. ; 7:3, s. 1054-1070
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Compositional heterogeneity is commonly observed in mixed bromide/iodide perovskite photoabsorbers, typically with minimal effects on charge carrier recombination and photovoltaic performance. Consistently, it has so far received very limited attention in bromide/chloride-mixed perovskites, which hold particular significance for blue light-emitting diodes. Here, we uncover that even a minor degree of localized halide heterogeneity leads to severe non-radiative losses in mixed bromide/chloride blue perovskite emitters, presenting a stark contrast to general observations in photovoltaics. We not only provide a visualization of the heterogeneity landscape spanning from micro-to sub-microscale but also identify that this issue mainly arises from the initially formed chloride-rich clusters during perovskite nucleation. Our work sheds light on a long-term neglected factor impeding the advancement of blue light-emitting diodes using mixed halide perovskites and provides a practical strategy to mitigate this issue.

  • Drive Advisory System: Do Swedish and Chinese Drivers Appreciate it in the Same Way?
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Engineering and Technology. - 1793-8236. ; 8:4, s. 286-292
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents a cross-regional study thatexamined the difference on drivers’ preference and behaviors when driving with driver advisory systems between Swedish and Chinese drivers. A drive simulator study was conducted in both countries. Two interfaces were proposed: Design 1 presents directional information; Design 2 combines directional and road user icons. The results showed Swedish drivers perceived a higher acceptance score of the systems than Chinese drivers. Swedish and Chinese drivers expressed different information needs on different regions around the car. When driving with design 2, Swedish and Chinese reduced the number of collisions by 13% and 18% respectively, compared with driving without any system. The brake-to-minimum TTC proved that Swedish and Chinese drivers utilized the systems differently. These findings indicate drivers' preferences and strategies towards advisory systems are highly culturally mediated, and adaptive design for different drivers is highly recommended.

  • Mercury as a Geophysical Tracer Gas - Emissions from the Emperor Qin Tomb in Xi´an Studied by Laser Radar
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Scientific Reports. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 2045-2322. ; 10:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Mercury is, because of its high vapor pressure and its prevalence in the atmosphere as atoms, an interesting geophysical tracer gas, also with potential archaeological applications. According to historical records dating back 2200 years, the mausoleum chamber of the “Terracotta Army Emperor” Qin in Xi´an, China, contains large amounts of liquid mercury, considered as an elixir of life at the time. We here report on measurements of the atmospheric contents of atomic mercury above the tomb mound performed with a mobile differential absorption lidar (light detection and ranging) system. Our measurements, which were performed from three different locations around the mound, indeed indicate elevated atmospheric mercury levels, with localizations, which correlate with previous in situ soil sampling results. Concentrations up to 27 ng/m3 were observed, significantly higher than the typical general pollutant level in the area which was found to be around 5–10 ng/m3. An out-flux of about 5×10−8 kg/s was estimated. Highly volatile mercury may be escaping through cracks, which developed in the structure over time, and our investigation supports ancient chronicle records on the tomb, which is believed never to have been opened/looted. Our findings also have bearings on the proposed use of mercury as a tracer gas for valuable ores and geothermal resource exploration, and also bring problematics around reliable nuclear waste long-term underground storage to mind.

  • Ingår i: Applied Optics. - 1559-128X. ; 56:5, s. 1506-1516
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A versatile mobile optical remote sensing system utilizing light detection and ranging (lidar) technology has been constructed and adapted for multidisciplinary environmental monitoring tasks on the Chinese scene. A key application is differential absorption lidar (DIAL) monitoring of distributions of gaseous air pollutants. The system includes a 20 Hz Nd:YAG laser-pumped dye laser, and two vertically looking Newtonian telescopes with diameters of 40 and 30 cm, respectively, over which folding mirrors can be hoisted over the laboratory roof to interrogate the remote target area. Using harmonic pulses from the Nd:YAG laser, remote laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) and laser-induced break-down spectroscopy (LIBS) can be performed. In this way, also water pollutants, vegetation, and soils can be studied. The wide applicability of the new system is illustrated in long-range measurements of atmospheric mercury and sulfur dioxide, and in LIF and LIBS monitoring. Remote passive monitoring of flying insects illustrates the additional functionality of the system.

  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Applied Optics. - 1559-128X. ; 55:19, s. 5273-5279
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Laser-induced fluorescence is an important technique to study photosynthesis and plants. Information on chlorophyll and other pigments can be obtained. We have been using a mobile laboratory in a Chinese experimental farm setting to study maize (Zea mays L.) leaves by reflectance and fluorescence measurements and correlated the spectroscopic signals to the amount of fertilizer supplied. Further, we studied five different species of maize using the remote monitoring of the fluorescence signatures obtained with the same mobile laboratory, but now in a laser radar remote-sensing configuration. The system separation from the target area was 50 m, and 355 nm pulsed excitation using the frequency-tripled output from an Nd:YAG laser was employed. Principal component analysis and linear discriminant analysis were combined to identify the different maize species using their fluorescence spectra. Likewise, the spectral signatures in reflectance and fluorescence frequently allowed us to separate different fertilizer levels applied to plants of the same species.

  • 2021
  • Ingår i: ACS Energy Letters. - : AMER CHEMICAL SOC. - 2380-8195. ; 6:7, s. 2395-2403
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Despite rapid developments of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) based on emerging perovskite nanocrystals (PeNCs), it remains challenging to achieve devices with integrated high efficiencies and high brightness because of the insulating long-chain ligands used for the PeNCs. Herein, we develop highly luminescent and stable formamidinium lead bromide PeNCs capped with rationally designed short aromatic ligands of 2-naphthalenesulfonic acid (NSA) for LEDs. Compared with commonly used oleic acid ligands, the NSA molecules not only preserve the surface properties of the PeNCs during the purification but also notably improve the electrical properties of the assembled emissive layers, ensuring efficient charge injection/transport in the devices. The resulting champion LED with electroluminescence approaching the Rec. 2020 green primary color demonstrates a high brightness of 67 115 cd cm(-2) and a peak external quantum efficiency of 19.2%. More impressively, the device shows negligibly decreased efficiency at an elevated brightness of 20 000 cd cm(-2) and a well-retained efficiency of over 10% at around 65 000 cd cm(-2), presenting a breakthrough in LEDs based on PeNCs.
