  • Nuclear astrophysics with radioactive ions at FAIR
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Journal of Physics: Conference Series. - : IOP Publishing. - 1742-6588 .- 1742-6596. ; 665:1
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The nucleosynthesis of elements beyond iron is dominated by neutron captures in the s and r processes. However, 32 stable, proton-rich isotopes cannot be formed during those processes, because they are shielded from the s-process flow and r-process beta-decay chains. These nuclei are attributed to the p and rp process. For all those processes, current research in nuclear astrophysics addresses the need for more precise reaction data involving radioactive isotopes. Depending on the particular reaction, direct or inverse kinematics, forward or time-reversed direction are investigated to determine or at least to constrain the desired reaction cross sections. The Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) will offer unique, unprecedented opportunities to investigate many of the important reactions. The high yield of radioactive isotopes, even far away from the valley of stability, allows the investigation of isotopes involved in processes as exotic as the r or rp processes.

  • Recent results related to excited states of 6Be and 10He
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: EPJ Web of Conferences. - : EDP Sciences. - 2101-6275 .- 2100-014X. ; 38, s. Art. no. 15002-
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The 1H(6Li,6Be)n charge-exchange reaction and the 3H(8He, p)10He two-neutron transfer reaction were recently carried out at the ACCULINNA fragment separator (FLNR, Dubna) to populate the ground and excited states of 6Be and 10He nuclei, respectively. The 6Be ET spectrum (ET is the 6Be energy above its 4He+p+p decay threshold) was obtained with high statistics and described by the well-known 0+ ground state of 6Be at ET = 1.37 MeV, the 2+ state at ET = 3.05 MeV and a broad structure extending from 4 to 16 MeV which could be interpreted as the isovector soft dipole mode associated with the 6Li ground state. In the 10He case the 0+ ground state was found at about 2.1(2) MeV (T ∼ 2 MeV) above the 8He+n+n breakup threshold. Angular correlations observed for 10He decay products show prominent interference patterns allowing to draw conclusions about the structure of low-energy excited states: 1- (E T ∼ 5 MeV) and 2+ (ET > 6 MeV).

  • Three-body correlations in direct reactions: Example of Be 6 populated in the (p,n) reaction
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C. - 2469-9993 .- 2469-9985. ; 98:5
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Be6 continuum states were populated in the charge-exchange reaction H1(Li6,Be6)n collecting very high statistics data (∼5×106 events) on the three-body α+p+p correlations. The Be6 excitation energy region below ∼3MeV is considered, where the data are dominated by contributions from the 0+ and 2+ states. It is demonstrated how the high-statistics few-body correlation data can be used to extract detailed information on the reaction mechanism. Such a derivation is based on the fact that highly spin-aligned states are typically populated in the direct reactions.

  • Isovector soft dipole mode in Be-6
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Physics Letters, Section B: Nuclear, Elementary Particle and High-Energy Physics. - : Elsevier BV. - 0370-2693. ; 708:1-2, s. 6-13
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • By using the H-1(Li-6,Be-6)n charge-exchange reaction, population of continuum states in Be-6 was observed up to E-T = 16 MeV, E-T being the Be-6 energy above its three-body decay threshold. In kinematically complete measurements performed by detecting alpha + p + p coincidences, an E-T spectrum of high statistics was obtained, containing approximately similar to 5 x 10(6) events. The spectrum provides detailed correlation information about the well-known 0(+) ground state of Be-6 at E-T = 1.37 MeV and its 2(+) state at E-T = 3.05 MeV. Moreover, a broad structure extending from 4 to 16 MeV was observed. It contains negative parity states populated by Delta L = 1 angular momentum transfer without other significant contributions. This structure can be interpreted as a novel phenomenon, i.e. the isovector soft dipole mode associated with the Li-6 ground state. The population of this mode in the charge-exchange reaction is a dominant phenomenon for this reaction, being responsible for about 60% of the cross-section obtained in the measured energy range.

  • Lifetime of 26S and a Limit for its 2p Decay Energy
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Modern Physics E. - : World Scientific Pub Co Pte Lt. - 0218-3013 .- 1793-6608. ; 20:6, s. 1491-1508
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The unknown isotope (26)S, expected to decay by two-proton (2p) emission, was studied theoretically and searched experimentally. The structure of this nucleus was examined within the relativistic mean field (RMF) approach. A method for taking into account the many-body structure in the three-body decay calculations was developed. The results of the RMF calculations were used as an input for the three-cluster decay model optimized for the study of a possible 2p decay branch of this nucleus. The experimental search for (26)S was performed by fragmentation of a 50.3 A MeV (32)S beam. No events of a particles table (26)S or (25)P (a presumably proton-unstable subsystem of (26)S) were observed. Based on the obtained production systematics, an upper half-life limit of T(1/2) 640 keV for (26)S. Analogous limits for (25)P are found as T(1/2) 110 keV. In the case that the one-proton emission is the main branch of the (26)S decay, a limit Q(2p) > 230 keV would follow for this nucleus. According to these limits, it is likely that (26)S resides in the picosecond life time range

    • By the Coulomb breakup of 17Ne, the time-reversed reaction 15O(2p,γ)17Ne has been studied. This reaction might play an important role in the rp process, as a break-out reaction of the hot CNO cycle. The secondary 17Ne ion beam with an energy of 500 MeV/nucleon has been dissociated in a Pb target. The reaction products have been detected with the LAND-R3B experimental setup at GSI. The preliminary differential and integral Coulomb dissociation cross section sCoul has been determined, which then will be converted into a photo-absorption cross section sphoto, and a two-proton radiative capture cross section σcap. Additionally, information about the structure of the 17Ne, a potential two-proton halo nucleus, will be received. • The PMIP4 contribution to CMIP6 - Part 3 : The last millennium, scientific objective, and experimental design for the PMIP4 past1000 simulations
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Geoscientific Model Development. - : Copernicus GmbH. - 1991-959X .- 1991-9603. ; 10:11, s. 4005-4033
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The pre-industrial millennium is among the periods selected by the Paleoclimate Model Intercomparison Project (PMIP) for experiments contributing to the sixth phase of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP6) and the fourth phase of the PMIP (PMIP4). The past1000 transient simulations serve to investigate the response to (mainly) natural forcing under background conditions not too different from today, and to discriminate between forced and internally generated variability on interannual to centennial timescales. This paper describes the motivation and the experimental set-ups for the PMIP4-CMIP6 past1000 simulations, and discusses the forcing agents orbital, solar, volcanic, and land use/land cover changes, and variations in greenhouse gas concentrations. The past1000 simulations covering the pre-industrial millennium from 850 Common Era (CE) to 1849 CE have to be complemented by historical simulations (1850 to 2014 CE) following the CMIP6 protocol. The external forcings for the past1000 experiments have been adapted to provide a seamless transition across these time periods. Protocols for the past1000 simulations have been divided into three tiers. A default forcing data set has been defined for the Tier 1 (the CMIP6 past1000) experiment. However, the PMIP community has maintained the flexibility to conduct coordinated sensitivity experiments to explore uncertainty in forcing reconstructions as well as parameter uncertainty in dedicated Tier 2 simulations. Additional experiments (Tier 3) are defined to foster collaborative model experiments focusing on the early instrumental period and to extend the temporal range and the scope of the simulations. This paper outlines current and future research foci and common analyses for collaborative work between the PMIP and the observational communities (reconstructions, instrumental data).

  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The new facility fragment separator ACCULINNA-2 will be put into operation at the beginning of 2015 in FLNR JINR. The new separator is destined to add considerably to the studies of drip-line nuclei performed with the use of variety of direct reactions known to be distinctive to the 15 - 50 MeV/amu exotic secondary RIBs. Intense beams provided by the U-400M cyclotron will ensure the achievement of this objective. In addition to the RIB separation accomplished by means of the dipole-wedge-dipole selection, the addition of a zero-degree dipole magnet setup is foreseen. A long (13 m) straight section will provide precise time-of-flight measurements. © Owned by the authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2014.

    • The crystalline heteroleptic bismuth(III) complexes, [Bi{S2CN(iso-C4H9)2}2(NO3)] (I) and [Bi{S2CN(C3H7)2}2Cl] (II), are isolated in preparative yields. Both compounds form 1D polymer structures and are characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis (CIF files CCDC nos. 1877115 (I) and 1876364 (II)) and (13C, 15N) CP-MAS NMR spectroscopy. The coordination mode of each of the dialkyldithiocarbamate ligands is S,S′-anisobidentately terminal. The inorganic anions performing the μ2-bridging function participate in the binding of the adjacent metallic atoms to form zigzag polymer chains. A new mode of bismuth(III) binding involving all oxygen atoms (O,O'-anisobidentate coordination to each adjacent bismuth atom) is found for the bridging nitrate groups in compound I. The bismuth atoms in the studied compounds are characterized by the eightfold [BiS4O4] (I) or sixfold [BiS4Cl2] (II) environment. The thermal behavior of the synthesized complexes is characterized by the data of simultaneous thermal analysis, using parallel recording of thermogravimetry and differential scanning calorimetry curves. In both cases, Bi2S3 is the only final product of the thermal transformations of compounds I and II.

    • The O-15(2p, gamma)Ne-17 cross section has been studied by the inverse reaction, the Coulomb dissociation of Ne-17. The experiment has been performed at the GSI. The Ne-17 excitation energy prior to decay has been reconstructed by using the invariant-mass method. The preliminary differential and integral Coulomb dissociation cross sections (sigma(Coul)) have been extracted, which provide a photoabsorption (sigma(photo)) and a radiative capture cross section (sigma(cap)). Additionally, important information about the Ne-17 nuclear structure will be obtained. The analysis is in progress.

    • Two-proton decay is discussed in a number of light isobaric multiplets. For the lightest two-proton emitter, 6Be, the momentum correlations between the three decay products were measured and found to be consistent with quantum-mechanical three-cluster-model calculations. Two-proton decay was also found for two members of the A=8 and A=11 quintets. Finally, a third member of the A=11 sextet, the double isobaric analog of the halo nucleus 11Li in 11B was observed by its two-proton decay.

  • Democratic Decay of Be-6 Exposed by Correlations
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - 1079-7114 .- 0031-9007. ; 109:20
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The interaction of an E/A = 70-MeV Be-7 beam with a Be target was used to populate levels in Be-6 following neutron knockout reactions. The three-body decay of the ground and first excited states into the alpha + p + p exit channel were detected in the High Resolution Array. Precise three-body correlations extracted from the experimental data allowed us to obtain insight into the mechanism of the three-body democratic decay. The correlation data are in good agreement with a three-cluster-model calculation and thus validate this theoretical approach over a broad energy range.

  • Ingår i: Physical Review C - Nuclear Physics. - 2469-9985 .- 2469-9993. ; 86:6, s. Article Number: 061602-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The influence of the initial-state structure and the reaction mechanism on three-body decays is investigated using the example of the Be-6 continuum populated in neutron-knockout reactions on Be-7. The sensitivity of the Be-6 excitation spectrum and the three-body correlations to the different components of the model is demonstrated. It is shown that the spin composition of the initial state may have an overwhelming effect on the three-body continuum. The characteristics and structure of the second 0(2)(+) and 2(2)(+) states in Be-6 are predicted and the conditions for their reliable observations are formulated. The effects of interference and the alignment of three-body states on the three-body correlations are demonstrated. DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevC.86.061602

  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C - Nuclear Physics. - 2469-9985 .- 2469-9993. ; 82:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Nowadays quantum-mechanical theory allows one to reliably calculate the processes of 2p radioactivity (true three-body decays) and the corresponding energy and angular correlations up to distances of the order of 10(3) fm. However, the precision of modern experiments has now become sufficient to indicate some deficiency of the predicted theoretical distributions. In this paper we discuss extrapolation along the classical trajectories as a method to improve the convergence of the theoretical energy and angular correlations at very large distances (of the order of atomic distances), where only long-range Coulomb forces are still operating. The precision of this approach is demonstrated using the "exactly" solvable semianalytical models with simplified three-body Hamiltonians. It is also demonstrated that for heavy 2p emitters, the 2p decay momentum distributions can be sensitive to the effect of screening by atomic electrons. We compare theoretical results with available experimental data.

  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Chemisorption synthesis on the basis of the binuclear compound [Bi2{S2CN(C3H7)2}6] (I) and preparative isolation of the ion-polymeric heteronuclear gold(III)-bismuth(III) complex ([Au{S2CN(C3H7)2}2]3[Bi2Cl9])n (II) are carried out. Compounds I and II are characterized in comparison by IR spectroscopy and 13C CP-MAS NMR. According to the X-ray diffraction analysis data (CIF file CCDC no. 1407705), the cationic moiety of compound II exhibits an unusually complicated supramolecular structure including six isomeric noncentrosymmetric complex cations [Au{S2CN(C3H7)2}2]+ (hereinafter A-F) and two binuclear anions [Bi2Cl9]3- as conformers. The isomeric gold(III) cations perform various structural functions. Owing to pair secondary interactions Au···S, cations B, C, E, and F form centrosymmetric ([E···E], [F···F]) and noncentrosymmetric ([B···C]) binuclear aggregates [Au2{S2CN(C3H7)2}4]2+, whereas cations A and D are not involved in dimerization. The strongest secondary Au···S bonds are formed between the binuclear and mononuclear cations, resulting in the formation of supramolecular cation-cationic polymer chains of two types: (⋅⋅⋅A⋅⋅⋅[B⋅⋅⋅C]⋅⋅⋅A⋅⋅⋅[B⋅⋅⋅C]⋅⋅⋅)n and (D⋅⋅⋅[E⋅⋅⋅E]⋅⋅⋅D⋅⋅⋅[F⋅⋅⋅F]⋅⋅⋅])n. In both chains, the gold atoms of the binuclear cations are characterized by a distorted octahedral coordination [S6], whereas in the mononuclear cations the gold atoms retain the square environment [S4]. The cation-anionic interactions are provided by secondary bonds Cl⋅⋅⋅S involving the terminal chlorine atoms of isomeric [Bi2Cl9]3- and the sulfur atoms of the binuclear cations [Au2{S2CN(C3H7)2}4]2+. The character of the thermal behavior of compounds I and II is studied by simultaneous thermal analysis with the identification of intermediate and final products of the thermal transformations. The thermolysis of compound I at 193-320°C is accompanied by the formation of Bi2S3 with an impurity of reduced metallic bismuth particles. The final products of the thermal transformations of compound II are reduced elemental gold and Bi2O3, and the thermal transformation intermediates are BiCl3 and Bi2S3.

  • Profiles of Parental Burnout Around the Globe : Similarities and Differences Across 36 Countries
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Cross-cultural research. - 1069-3971 .- 1552-3578. ; 57:5, s. 499-538
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Parental burnout (PB) is a pervasive phenomenon. Parenting is embedded in cultural values, and previous research has shown the role of individualism in PB. In this paper, we reanalyze previously collected data to identify profiles based on the four dimensions of PB, and explore whether these profiles vary across countries’ levels of collectivistic-individualistic (COL-IND) values. Our sample comprised 16,885 individuals from 36 countries (73% women; 27% men), and we used a latent profile approach to uncover PB profiles. The findings showed five profiles: Fulfilled, Not in PB, Low risk of PB, High risk of PB and Burned out. The profiles pointed to climbing levels of PB in the total sample and in each of the three country groups (High COL/Low IND, Medium COL-IND, Low COL/High IND). Exploratory analyses revealed that distinct dimensions of PB had the most prominent roles in the climbing pattern, depending on the countries’ levels of COL/IND. In particular, we found contrast to be a hallmark dimension and an indicator of severe burnout for individualistic countries. Contrary to our predictions, emotional distance and saturation did not allow a clear differentiation across collectivistic countries. Our findings support several research avenues regarding PB measurement and intervention.

    • The O-15(2p, gamma) Ne-17 reaction is studied using the time-reversed reaction of the Ne-17 E1 Coulomb dissociation on lead target in the context of nuclear astrophysics. Looking for the relation between the data on the Coulomb excitation and the astrophysical 2p-capture rate, one faces problem to extract the Coulomb E1 strength function from the measured Coulex cross section. We use a number of phenomenological approaches to estimate influence of such processes as Coulomb-nuclear interference, populations of states with different J(pi), etc. We calculate the Ne-17+ 2p astrophysical capture rate and compare the results with different calculations.

  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Coulomb and nuclear dissociation of Ne-17 on light and heavy targets are studied theoretically. The dipole E1 strength function is determined in a broad energy range including energies of astrophysical interest. Dependence of the strength function on different parameters of the Ne-17 ground-state structure and continuum dynamics is analyzed in a three-body model. The discovered dependence plays an important role for studies of the strength functions for the three-body E1 dissociation and radiative capture. The constraints on the [s(2)]/[d(2)] configuration mixing in Ne-17 and on p-wave interaction in the O-15+p channel are imposed based on experimental data for Ne-17 Coulomb dissociation on heavy target.

  • Three-body correlations data analysis through monte carlo simulation in decay of 10He
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Acta Physica Polonica B. - 0587-4254. ; 48:3, s. 683-686
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This work concerns the program for Monte Carlo (MC) simulation of three-body decays data. Three-body events are characterized by complicated correlations hindered by induced distortions due to finite resolution of experimental setups. The MC code is developed and tested by performing the analysis of the 10He experiment which shows the unusual order of first excited states of 10He.

  • Ingår i: EPJ Web of Conferences. - : EDP Sciences. - 2101-6275 .- 2100-014X. ; 66
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We have studied one-proton-removal reactions of about 500MeV/u 17Ne beams on a carbon target at the R3B/LAND setup at GSI by detecting beam-like 15O-p and determining their relative-energy distribution. We exclusively selected the removal of a 17Ne halo proton, and the Glauber-model analysis of the 16F momentum distribution resulted in an s2 contribution in the 17Ne ground state of about 40%. © Owned by the authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2014.
