  • Integrated and differential fiducial cross-section measurements for the vector boson fusion production of the Higgs boson in the H → WW* → eνμν decay channel at 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Physical Review D. - : AMER PHYSICAL SOC. - 2470-0010 .- 2470-0029. ; 108:7
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The vector-boson production cross section for the Higgs boson decay in the H→WW*→eνμν channel is measured as a function of kinematic observables sensitive to the Higgs boson production and decay properties as well as integrated in a fiducial phase space. The analysis is performed using the proton-proton collision data collected by the ATLAS detector in Run 2 of the LHC at √s=13  TeV center-of-mass energy, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139  fb−1. The different flavor final state is studied by selecting an electron and a muon originating from a pair of W bosons and compatible with the Higgs boson decay. The data are corrected for the effects of detector inefficiency and resolution, and the measurements are compared with different state-of-the-art theoretical predictions. The differential cross sections are used to constrain anomalous interactions described by dimension-six operators in an effective field theory.

  • Luminosity determination in pp collisions at √s=13 TeV using the ATLAS detector at the LHC
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. - : Institute for Ionics. - 1434-6044 .- 1434-6052. ; 83:10
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The luminosity determination for the ATLAS detector at the LHC during Run 2 is presented, with pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy s=13 TeV. The absolute luminosity scale is determined using van der Meer beam separation scans during dedicated running periods in each year, and extrapolated to the physics data-taking regime using complementary measurements from several luminosity-sensitive detectors. The total uncertainties in the integrated luminosity for each individual year of data-taking range from 0.9% to 1.1%, and are partially correlated between years. After standard data-quality selections, the full Run 2 pp data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 140.1 ± 1.2 fb - 1 , i.e. an uncertainty of 0.83%. A dedicated sample of low-pileup data recorded in 2017–2018 for precision Standard Model physics measurements is analysed separately, and has an integrated luminosity of 338.1 ± 3.1 pb - 1 . © 2023, The Author(s).

  • Measurement of the Sensitivity of Two-Particle Correlations in pp Collisions to the Presence of Hard Scatterings
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - : American Physical Society. - 0031-9007 .- 1079-7114. ; 131:16
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A key open question in the study of multiparticle production in high-energy pp collisions is the relationship between the “ridge”—i.e., the observed azimuthal correlations between particles in the underlying event that extend over all rapidities—and hard or semihard scattering processes. In particular, it is not known whether jets or their soft fragments are correlated with particles in the underlying event. To address this question, two-particle correlations are measured in pp collisions at √s=13  TeV using data collected by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC, with an integrated luminosity of 15.8  pb−1, in two different configurations. In the first case, charged particles associated with jets are excluded from the correlation analysis, while in the second case, correlations are measured between particles within jets and charged particles from the underlying event. Second-order flow coefficients, v2, are presented as a function of event multiplicity and transverse momentum. These measurements show that excluding particles associated with jets does not affect the measured correlations. Moreover, particles associated with jets do not exhibit any significant azimuthal correlations with the underlying event, ruling out hard processes contributing to the ridge.

  • Observation of Single-Top-Quark Production in Association with a Photon Using the ATLAS Detector
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - : American Physical Society (APS). - 0031-9007 .- 1079-7114. ; 131:18
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This Letter reports the observation of single top quarks produced together with a photon, which directly probes the electroweak coupling of the top quark. The analysis uses 139  fb−1 of 13 TeV proton-proton collision data collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Requiring a photon with transverse momentum larger than 20 GeV and within the detector acceptance, the fiducial cross section is measured to be 688±23(stat) , to be compared with the standard model prediction of at next-to-leading order in QCD.

  • Accurate determination of the enhancement factor X for the nuclear Schiff moment in (TlF)-Tl-205 molecule based on the four-component relativistic coupled-cluster theory
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Molecular Physics. - : Taylor & Francis. - 0026-8976 .- 1362-3028. ; 118:23
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Studies of parity (P) and time-reversal (T) symmetry violations using molecules are important and attractive because they are complementary to the high-energy tests of physics beyond the Standard Model of elementary particles. The focus of our present work is to surpass the current accuracies of the quantity X, an enhancement factor for the nuclear Schiff moment (Q), and the nucleon electric dipole moments for the (TlF)-Tl-205 molecule. We obtain X = 6856 a.u. using a relativistic coupled-cluster singles and doubles and perturbative triples (CCSD(T)) approach. This new value of X improves the upper limits for Q and the proton EDM by about ten percent over the previous ones. [GRAPHICS] .

  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C (Nuclear Physics). - 0556-2813. ; 79:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Zn-61(30)31 nucleus has been studied via the combined data of two fusion-evaporation reaction experiments using a Ar-36 beam and a Si-28 target foil. The experimental setups involved the Ge array GAMMASPHERE and neutron and charged particle detectors placed around the target position. The resulting level scheme comprises about 120 excited states connected via some 180 gamma-ray transitions. In total, seven rotational structures were identified up to I similar to 25 or higher and compared with predictions from cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky calculations.

  • Extensive Gamma-ray Spectroscopy of Normally and Superdeformed Structures in 61Cu

  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal A. Hadrons and Nuclei. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1434-6001. ; 36:3, s. 251-278
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A largely extended experimental knowledge of the Cu-61(29)32 nucleus has been obtained from three experiments. Excited states in Cu-61 were produced via the fusion-evaporation reaction Si-28(Ar-36, 3p)Cu-61. In addition to the Ge array GAMMASPHERE, neutron and charged-particle detectors placed around the target position were used for high-performance particle spectroscopy. The constructed level scheme includes more than 160 energy levels and 320 gamma-ray transitions belonging to both normally deformed as well as superdeformed rotational structures. The multipolarities have been determined for the gamma-ray transitions and as a result spin-parity assignments are given for nearly all energy levels. Experimental results in the normally deformed region are compared with predictions from large-scale shell model calculations. The collective structures are compared with results from cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky calculations. The results reveal the need to modify the standard Nilsson parameters in the mass A similar to 60 region.

  • Gamma-ray Spectroscopy of Excited States in 61Zn
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal A. Hadrons and Nuclei. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1434-6001. ; 30:2, s. 381-390
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Zn-61(30)31 isotope has been produced at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the fusion-evaporation reaction Ca-40(Mg-24, 2pn)Zn-61 at 104 MeV. The experimental set-up allowed gamma-rays to be detected in the CLARION Ge detector array in coincidence with the detection of recoiling nuclei in the focal plane at the end of the recoil mass spectrometer. This provides a unique identification of gamma-rays belonging to Zn-61. The excited states have been explored by means of recoil-gamma gamma coincidences, and the resulting decay scheme comprises almost 70 transitions. The data reveal numerous non-yrast states and suggest a revised spin and parity assignment for a previously observed superdeformed band. The resulting decay scheme is compared to predictions from different sets of large-scale shell model calculations.

  • Identification of Excited States in 61Ga: Mirror Nuclei in the Upper fp Shell
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C (Nuclear Physics). - 0556-2813. ; 71:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In the fusion-evaporation reaction Ca-40+Mg-24 at 104 MeV beam energy, excited states have been observed for the first time in the isotope Ga-31(61)30. The experimental setup comprised the Ge array CLARION, a recoil mass spectrometer and, in its focal plane, an ionization chamber. Five transitions in Ga-61 are identified, out of which a cascade of three transitions has been established by means of recoil-gammagamma coincidences. The strong transitions at 271 keV in Ga-61 and 124 keV in Zn-61 are viewed as the "mirror" 5/2(-)-->3/2(-) ground-state transitions. The rather large energy difference of 150 keV is suggested to arise from Coulomb monopole contributions. Shell-model calculations support this interpretation.

  • 2002
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal A. Hadrons and Nuclei. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1434-6001. ; 14:3, s. 317-348
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • High-spin states in Cu-59 were populated using the fusion-evaporation reaction Si-28 + Ca-40 at a beam energy of 122 MeV. The Gammasphere Ge-detector array in conjunction with the 4pi charged-particle detector array Microball allowed for the detection of gamma-rays in coincidence with evaporated light particles. The resulting extensive high-spin decay scheme of Cu-59 is presented, which comprises more than 320 gamma-ray transitions connecting about 150 excited states. Their spins and parities have been assigned via directional correlations of gamma-rays emitted from oriented states. Average quadrupole moments of rotational bands have been determined from the analysis of residual Doppler shifts. Shell model calculations in the fp shell are invoked to study some of the low-spin states, while the experimental characteristics of the rotational bands are analyzed in the configuration-dependent cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky (CNS) approach.

  • Energy structure and transition rates in the Ne-like sequence from relativistic CI calculations
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Europhysics Conference Abstracts;36C. - : European Physical Society. ; , s. 128-128
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Atomic data are important in astrophysical applications and transition rates can be used in the determination of element abundances and plasma diagnostics. To provide for the extensive data needs a number of general computer codes such as SUPERSTRUCTURE, CIV3, and ATSP2K have been developed. As an alternative to these codes, which all rely on the Breit-Pauli approximation, the fully relativistic GRASP2K code can be used. GRASP2K is based on the multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock method and implements a bi-orthogonal transformation method that permits initial and final states in a transition array to be optimized separately, which, in many cases, leads to more accurate values of the resulting rates. The GRASP2K package also contains modules to compute diagonal and off-diagonal hyperfine interaction constants, isotope shifts, Land´e gJ factors, and splittings of magnetic sub-state in intermediate and strong magnetic fields. In this work, GRASP2K has been applied to provide highly accurate spectroscopic data for ions in the Ne-like sequence between Mg III and Kr XXVII. Valence, core-valence, and core-core correlation effects were accounted for through SD-MR expansions to increasing sets of active orbitals. In Mg III, Al IV, Si V, P VI, S VII, and Ar IX, for which experimental energies are known to high accuracy, the mean error in the calculated energies is only 0.011%. For ions with no available experimental energy levels the calculated values should be most valuable in various applications. The high accuracy of the calculated energies makes it possible, in some cases, to to point out experimental values that are in error. Babushkin (length) and Coulomb (velocity) forms of transition rates are computed and agree to within a few percent for the majority of the allowed transitions. Computed lifetimes for states belonging to the 2p33s and 2p53d configurations are in good agreement with values from beam-foil measurements as well as from accurate MCHF Breit-Pauli calculations.

  • Isospin symmetry of odd-odd mirror nuclei: Identification of excited states in N=Z-2 Mn-48
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - 1079-7114. ; 97:13: 132501
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Excited states have been observed in the N=Z-2 odd-odd nucleus Mn-48 for the first time. Through comparison with the structure of V-48, a first high-spin study of an odd-odd mirror pair has been achieved. Differences between the T=1 analogue states in this pair have been interpreted in terms of Coulomb effects, with the aid of shell-model calculations in the full pf valence space. Unlike other mirror pairs, the energy differences have been interpreted almost entirely as due to a monopole effect associated with smooth changes in radius (or deformation) as a function of angular momentum. In addition, the large energy shift between analogue negative-parity states is interpreted in terms of the electromagnetic spin-orbit interaction in nuclei.

  • High-spin spectroscopy of natural and unnatural parity states in the mirror-pair V-45/Ti-45
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C (Nuclear Physics). - 0556-2813. ; 73:2: 024304
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • High-spin states in the proton-rich nucleus V-45 have been identified for the first time. A comprehensive gamma-ray decay scheme has been established following an experiment performed at the Vivitron accelerator at IReS Strasbourg by using the Euroball gamma-ray detector array coupled to the Neutron Wall and Euclides detector arrays. The natural (negative-) parity scheme is identified up to the f(7/2) band termination in addition to a positive-parity collective structure based on a d(3/2) particle-hole excitation. Comparison of this scheme with that of the mirror partner, Ti-45, has yielded detailed information on the variation of Coulomb energy as a function of excitation energy and angular momentum. This is the first time that such an analysis has been performed for a collective structure built on a cross-shell excitation. Comparison of the observed Coulomb energies with those predicted by large-scale shell-model calculations is presented. In this case, unusually, the calculations do not fare as well as for heavier nuclei in the shell. In addition, stark differences between the two nuclei are observed for the decay intensities of the parity-changing E1 decays that de-excite the positive-parity deformed bands.

  • Systemic Inflammation in Preclinical Ulcerative Colitis
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Gastroenterology. - : AGA Institute. - 0016-5085 .- 1528-0012. ; 161:5, s. 1526-1539.e9
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background & Aims: Preclinical ulcerative colitis is poorly defined. We aimed to characterize the preclinical systemic inflammation in ulcerative colitis, using a comprehensive set of proteins. Methods: We obtained plasma samples biobanked from individuals who developed ulcerative colitis later in life (n = 72) and matched healthy controls (n = 140) within a population-based screening cohort. We measured 92 proteins related to inflammation using a proximity extension assay. The biologic relevance of these findings was validated in an inception cohort of patients with ulcerative colitis (n = 101) and healthy controls (n = 50). To examine the influence of genetic and environmental factors on these markers, a cohort of healthy twin siblings of patients with ulcerative colitis (n = 41) and matched healthy controls (n = 37) were explored. Results: Six proteins (MMP10, CXCL9, CCL11, SLAMF1, CXCL11 and MCP-1) were up-regulated (P < .05) in preclinical ulcerative colitis compared with controls based on both univariate and multivariable models. Ingenuity Pathway Analyses identified several potential key regulators, including interleukin-1β, tumor necrosis factor, interferon-gamma, oncostatin M, nuclear factor-κB, interleukin-6, and interleukin-4. For validation, we built a multivariable model to predict disease in the inception cohort. The model discriminated treatment-naïve patients with ulcerative colitis from controls with leave-one-out cross-validation (area under the curve = 0.92). Consistently, MMP10, CXCL9, CXCL11, and MCP-1, but not CCL11 and SLAMF1, were significantly up-regulated among the healthy twin siblings, even though their relative abundances seemed higher in incident ulcerative colitis. Conclusions: A set of inflammatory proteins are up-regulated several years before a diagnosis of ulcerative colitis. These proteins were highly predictive of an ulcerative colitis diagnosis, and some seemed to be up-regulated already at exposure to genetic and environmental risk factors.

  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A core-excited I-pi=(12(+)) spin-gap isomer was identified in Cd-98 in an experiment at EUROBALL IV. It was found to feed the known I-pi=(8(+)) seniority isomer by an E4 transition. Half-lives of T-1/2=0.23 ((+4)(-3)) mus and 0.17 ((+6)(-4)) mus were measured for the two states at E-x=6635 keV and 2428 keV, respectively. From the excitation energy of the core-excited isomer a Sn-100 shell gap of 6.46(15) MeV is inferred. The measured E4 and E2 strengths, Sn-100 core excitations and the origin of empirical polarization charges are discussed in the framework of large-scale shell model calculations. • Following the heavy-ion fusion-evaporation reaction S-32+Mg-24 at 95 MeV beam energy the lifetimes of analogue states in the T-z=+/-1/2 A=51 mirror nuclei Fe-51 and Mn-51 have been measured using the Cologne plunger device coupled to the GASP gamma-ray spectrometer. The deduced B(E2;27/2(-)-->23/2(-)) values afford a unique opportunity to probe isoscalar and isovector polarization charges and to derive effective proton and neutron charges, epsilon(p) and epsilon(n), in the fp shell. A comparison between the experimental results and several different large-scale shell-model calculations yields epsilon(p)similar to1.15e and epsilon(n)similar to0.80e.

  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The fusion-evaporation reactions Si-28(S-32,1 alpha 2p1n)Fe-53 at 125 MeV and Mg-24(S-32,2p1n)Fe-53 at a 95-MeV beam energy were used to investigate excited states in Fe-53. The combination of the Gammasphere Ge detector array and ancillary devices led to the construction of an extensive level scheme comprising some 90 transitions connecting 40 states. The lifetime of the yrast 25/2(-) state and upper limits for the lifetimes of a number of additional states were determined using the Cologne plunger device coupled to the GASP gamma-ray spectrometer. The experimental results are compared to large-scale shell-model calculations using different sets of two-body matrix elements. In particular, predictions on electromagnetic decay properties such as lifetimes, branching ratios, and mixing ratios are studied in detail.

    • Background: Injury events in homes constitute a major social problem. Falling, cutting and poisoning make up 85 per cent of all injury events in residential areas. This study is based on a unique data set that includes several million cases of falling, cutting and poisoning in Sweden during the period 1990-2013 which lead to either to death, hospitalisation or to a visit to a health care provider, and a control group randomly selected from the population.Three riskgroups are given special attention in the analysis: (1) old people, (2) children, (3) persons with disabilities and or long term illnesses. Methods: Multilevel regression analysis and geographical information systems, GIS.Results: The results show the probability for each riskgroup to be exposed to each type of injury event, and how this probability varies with place (GIS), previous exposure, type of household, socioeconomic status and type of housing. Conclusions: The project is ongoing. Our cross-sectorial group has demonstrated the importance of injury epidemiology as a guiding principle in architectural design, particularly for high-risk groups.

    • The level scheme of Mn-51 has been investigated using the Si-28(S-32 2alpha1p)Mn-51 fusion-evaporation reaction at 125 MeV beam energy. The gamma rays were detected in the Ge-detector array Gammasphere, which was coupled to the 4pi-charged-particle detector Microball and the Neutron Shell for the coincident detection of evaporated particles. Over 100 new gamma-ray transitions connecting some 50 excited states have been identified. Most of the states are built on particle-hole excitations across the shell gaps at particle number N=Z=28. The rich experimental data allows for a 'comprehensive comparison of core-excited states with results from large-scale shell-model calculations, which are known to provide excellent predictions for the lower-lying yrast and near-yrast levels in 1f(7/2) nuclei.

  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Large-scale self-consistent multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock subsequent relativistic configuration interaction (RCl) calculations are reported for 360 states belonging to the 30 configurations 3s(2))3l, 4l. 5l}, 3p(2) (3d, 4l}, 3s(3p(2). 3d(2)),3s{3p3d, 3p4l. 3p5s, 3d4l'}, 3p3d(2), 3p(3) and 3d(3) with I = 0, 1,, n - 1 and l' = 0. 1. 2 in 17 systems of the aluminum-like isoelectronic sequence: Ti X through Kr XXIV, Xe XLII, and W LXII. Effects from electron correlation are taken into account by means of large expansions in terms of a basis of configuration state functions (CSF) and calculated energy levels are compared with existing theoretical calculations and the NIST Atomic Spectra database. Radiative E1, E2, M1 and M2 transition rates and associated lifetimes of energy levels are presented in online tables. The uncertainties of the calculated energies are very small, on average between 0.02% and 0.05%, which aid new line identifications in laboratory and astronomical spectra and also make it possible to find and rule out misidentifications. The uncertainties of the El transition probabilities, based on the agreement between values in the length and velocity gauges, are estimated to be of the order 0.5% for the strong transitions and 25% for the weaker intercombination transitions. The M1 transition values are not sensitive to electron correlation and are believed to be accurate to well within 1%. (C) 2017 Published by Elsevier Inc.

  • Mirror Nuclei - Isospin Symmetry Breaking in the Mass A=35 and A=51 Mirror Nuclei
  • 2004
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • High-spin states in the A=35 mirror nuclei 35Ar and 35Cl and A=51 mirror nuclei 51Fe and 51Mn were populated using fusion-evaporation reactions. The gamma rays were detected in the powerful Ge arrays Gammasphere and GASP, respectively, which operated in conjunction with ancillary detectors for evaporated particles. The resulting mirror energy difference diagrams of the two mirror pairs are interpreted in terms of various electromagnetic effects and possible isospin-symmetry breaking components of the nuclear force. In the A=35 mirror nuclei effects of the electromagnetic spin-orbit interaction have been discriminated for the first time. In addition, an unusual decay pattern of excited states can give direct evidence on isospin mixing. Excited states in 51Fe have been observed for the first time. In the A=51 mirror nuclei detailed isospin-symmetry studies are performed including core-excited states. This mark the first comparison of such analogue states in mirror nuclei. An extensive level scheme of the nucleus 51Mn has been constructed. It comprises approximately 50 previously unknown core excited states, which are interpreted in terms of comprehensive large shell-model calculations including electro-magnetic decay properties. In addition, a rotational band has been identified, which is interpreted using the cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky model and found to comprise a particle in the 1g9/2 intruder orbital.

  • Ingår i: Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B. - : Elsevier. - 0168-583X .- 1872-9584. ; 249:1-2, s. 544-547
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In recent years there has been increasing interest in radio-epidemiological techniques to retrospectively measure the radon dose exposure by determining the activity of 210Pb, the longest-lived 222Rn progeny, in glass surface layers. In this study the diffusion of 39 keV 209Pb+ ions implanted into glass using the IGISOL facility has been studied under conditions that mimic the recoil implantation of 210Pb from 222Rn. The resulting depth distributions of 209Pb were then measured after heat treatment in vacuum at different temperatures by a sputter erosion technique. The diffusion coefficient could be described by an Arrhenius equation D = D0exp(−H/kT) where and H = 2.81 ± 0.11 eV. No statistically significant loss of 209Pb from the sample was observed for annealing between 470 and 600 °C.

    • Spectral lines from different isotopes display a small separation in energy, commonly referred to as the line isotope shift. The program RIS4 (Relativistic Isotope Shift) calculates normal and specific mass shift parameters as well as field shift electronic factors from relativistic multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock wave functions. These quantities, together with available nuclear data, determine isotope-dependent energy shifts. Using a reformulation of the field shift, it is possible to study, in a model-independent way, the atomic energy shifts arising from changes in nuclear charge distributions, e.g. deformations. The lever scheme reaches the fully aligned I-pi = 27/2(-) terminating state of the five holes in the f(7/2) shell. The 17/2(-) state was found to be isomeric, and the lifetime was measured to be 2.87 ns. The mirror symmetry of Fe-51 and Mn-51 is discussed, and the level scheme of Fe-51 is compared to shell-model calculations.

  • Sympathectomy-induced increases in calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP)-, substance P- and vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP)-levels in parotid and submandibular glands of the rat
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Arch Oral Biol. ; 50:10, s. 909-17
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The neuropeptide contents of rat salivary glands were increased four weeks after sympathetic postganglionic denervation (but not after preganglionic denervation): calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) by 400 and 65% in the parotid and submandibular glands, respectively; substance P by 30% in the submandibular gland; and vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) by 30% in the parotid gland. The sensory neurotoxin capsaicin prevented the expected increases of CGRP and substance P in the submandibular glands and of VIP in the parotid glands. The CGRP-increase in the parotid gland was, however, only reduced (by 65%). Parasympathetic otic ganglionectomy reduced the peptide levels in the parotid glands (CGRP--50%, VIP--98% and substance P--99%). From these residual levels, CGRP increased almost 8-fold and substance P 3-fold in response to the sympathetic denervation, while VIP was unaffected. In the parasympathetically denervated glands, the capsaicin-sensitive contribution to the CGRP-response to sympathetic denervation was roughly estimated to be more than 25% but less than 40%, while the corresponding contribution to the substance P-response was roughly estimated to be more than 6% but less than 58%. Most likely not only CGRP/substance P-containing sensory C-fibres (submandibular and parotid glands) but also parasympathetic VIP-containing secretomotor and vasomotor fibres (parotid glands) contributed to the capsaicin-sensitive response to sympathetic denervation.

  • Ingår i: Physical Review A: covering atomic, molecular, and optical physics and quantum information. - : American Physical Society. - 2469-9926 .- 2469-9934. ; 93:6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The present work reports results from systematic multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock calculations of isotope shifts for several well-known transitions in neutral magnesium. Relativistic normal and specific mass shift factors as well as the electronic probability density at the origin are calculated. Combining these electronic quantities with available nuclear data, energy and transition level shifts are determined for the Mg26−Mg24 pair of isotopes. Different models for electron correlation are adopted. It is shown that, although valence and core-valence models provide accurate values for the isotope shifts, the inclusion of core-core excitations in the computational strategy significantly improves the accuracy of the transition energies and normal mass shift factors.

    • The present work reports results from systematic multiconfiguration Dirac–Hartree–Fock calculations of electronic isotope shift factors for a set of transitions between low-lying levels of neutral aluminium. These electronic quantities together with observed isotope shifts between different pairs of isotopes provide the changes in mean-square charge radii of the atomic nuclei. Two computational approaches are adopted for the estimation of the mass- and field-shift factors. Within these approaches, different models for electron correlation are explored in a systematic way to determine a reliable computational strategy and to estimate theoretical error bars of the isotope shift factors.

  • 2015
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Cardiology. - : Elsevier BV. - 0167-5273. ; 187, s. 693-699
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • AIM: To evaluate if person-centred care can improve self-efficacy and facilitate return to work or prior activity level in patients after an event of acute coronary syndrome. METHOD: 199 patients with acute coronary syndrome <75years were randomly assigned to person-centred care intervention or treatment as usual and followed for 6months. In the intervention group a person-centred care process was added to treatment as usual, emphasising the patient as a partner in care. Care was co-created in collaboration between patients, physicians, registered nurses and other health care professionals and documented in a health plan. A team-based partnership across three health care levels included transparent knowledge about the disease and medical state to achieve agreed goals during recovery. Main outcome measure was a composite score of changes in general self-efficacy >/=5units, return to work or prior activity level and re-hospitalisation or death. RESULTS: The composite score showed that more patients (22.3%, n=21) improved in the intervention group at 6months compared to the control group (9.5%, n=10) (odds ratio, 2.7; 95% confidence interval: 1.2-6.2; P=0.015). The effect was driven by improved self-efficacy >/=5units in the intervention group. Overall general self-efficacy improved significantly more in the intervention group compared with the control group (P=0.026). There was no difference between groups on re-hospitalisation or death, return to work or prior activity level. CONCLUSION: A person-centred care approach emphasising the partnership between patients and health care professionals throughout the care chain improves general self-efficacy without causing worsening clinical events.

  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Sixth Geneva conference on person-centered medicine. April 29 – May 1, 2013.
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Background Remote monitoring of patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) has yielded mixed and often disappointing results [1]. One reason could be that remote monitoring mirrors a disease focused of looking at the patient [2], hence only promoting a one-way communication between the patient and health care professionals. Purpose To investigate the feasibility and effect of an e-health application aimed for self-monitoring of signs and symptoms in patients with CHD. Design This study is part of an ongoing randomized controlled trial in Sweden for patients with CHD. Patients are trained at the hospital to use a smartphone application and a web-site for the following 12 months where they are able to 1) write a health diary 2) rate their current state of fatigue, motivation and concentration 3) obtain daily trend graphs of physical activity, measured via a built-in accelerometer 4) establish chat-contact with other patients in the study 5) establish contact with staff at e.g. their study clinic. Expected results To our knowledge, this is the first study that will evaluate a combined smartphone and web-based person-centred diary for patients with CHD. Tentative findings indicate a feasibility of a smartphone application for patients. Further findings will be presented at the conference. References 1. Anker, S.D., F. Koehler, and W.T. Abraham. • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Gamma decays from excited states up to J(pi)=6(+) in the N=Z-2 nucleus Ni-54 have been identified for the first time. Level energies are compared with those of the isobars Co-54 and Fe-54 and of the cross-conjugate nuclei of mass A=42. The good but puzzling f(7/2) cross-conjugate symmetry in mirror and triplet energy differences is analyzed. Shell model calculations reproduce the new data but the necessary nuclear charge-dependent phenomenology is not fully explained by modern nucleon-nucleon potentials.

    • An experimental study of the Zn-62 nucleus has been performed by combining the data sets from four fusion-evaporation reaction experiments. Apart from the previously published data, the present results include ten new rotational band structures and two more superdeformed bands. The Gammasphere Ge-detector array in conjunction with the 4 pi charged-particle detector array Microball allowed for the detection of gamma rays in coincidence with evaporated light particles. The deduced level scheme includes some 260 excited states, which are connected with more than 450 gamma-ray transitions. Spins and parities of the excited states have been determined via directional correlations of. rays emitted from oriented states. The experimental characteristics of the rotational bands are analyzed and compared with results from cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky calculations. The present analysis, combined with available experimental results in the A similar to 60 mass region, can be used to improve the current set of Nilsson parameters in the N = 3 and N = 4 oscillator shells.

  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C (Nuclear Physics). - 0556-2813. ; 69:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A systematic study of the population probabilities of nanosecond and microsecond isomers produced following the projectile fragmentation of U-238 at 750 MeV/nucleon has been undertaken at the SIS/FRS facility at GSI. Approximately 15 isomeric states in neutron-deficient nuclei around A similar to 190 were identified and the corresponding. isomeric ratios determined. The results are compared with a model based on the statistical abrasion-ablation description of relativistic fragmentation and simple assumptions concerning gamma cascades in the final nucleus (sharp cutoff). This model represents an upper limit for the population of isomeric states in relativistic projectile fragmentation. When the decay properties of the states above the isomer are taken into account, as opposed to the sharp cutoff approximation, a good agreement between the experimental and calculated angular momentum population is obtained.
