  • CAPOS : The bulge Cluster APOgee Survey I. Overview and initial ASPCAP results
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Astronomy and Astrophysics. - : EDP Sciences. - 0004-6361 .- 1432-0746. ; 652
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Context. Bulge globular clusters (BGCs) are exceptional tracers of the formation and chemodynamical evolution of this oldest Galactic component. However, until now, observational difficulties have prevented us from taking full advantage of these powerful Galactic archeological tools. Aims. CAPOS, the bulge Cluster APOgee Survey, addresses this key topic by observing a large number of BGCs, most of which have only been poorly studied previously. Even their most basic parameters, such as metallicity, [alpha/Fe], and radial velocity, are generally very uncertain. We aim to obtain accurate mean values for these parameters, as well as abundances for a number of other elements, and explore multiple populations. In this first paper, we describe the CAPOS project and present initial results for seven BGCs. Methods. CAPOS uses the APOGEE-2S spectrograph observing in the H band to penetrate obscuring dust toward the bulge. For this initial paper, we use abundances derived from ASPCAP, the APOGEE pipeline. Results. We derive mean [Fe/H] values of -0.85 +/- 0.04 (Terzan 2), -1.40 +/- 0.05 (Terzan 4), -1.20 +/- 0.10 (HP 1), -1.40 +/- 0.07 (Terzan 9), -1.07 +/- 0.09 (Djorg 2), -1.06 +/- 0.06 (NGC 6540), and -1.11 +/- 0.04 (NGC 6642) from three to ten stars per cluster. We determine mean abundances for eleven other elements plus the mean [alpha/Fe] and radial velocity. CAPOS clusters significantly increase the sample of well-studied Main Bulge globular clusters (GCs) and also extend them to lower metallicity. We reinforce the finding that Main Bulge and Main Disk GCs, formed in situ, have [Si/Fe] abundances slightly higher than their accreted counterparts at the same metallicity. We investigate multiple populations and find our clusters generally follow the light-element (anti)correlation trends of previous studies of GCs of similar metallicity. We finally explore the abundances of the iron-peak elements Mn and Ni and compare their trends with field populations. Conclusions. CAPOS is proving to be an unprecedented resource for greatly improving our knowledge of the formation and evolution of BGCs and the bulge itself.

  • Development and initial testing of a new instrument to measure the experience of eczema control in adults and children : Recap of atopic eczema (RECAP)
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: British Journal of Dermatology. - : Oxford University Press (OUP). - 0007-0963 .- 1365-2133. ; 183:3, s. 524-536
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Eczema control has been identified as an important outcome by key stakeholders in eczema research (including patients, carers, healthcare professionals and researchers) but no validated instruments for the domain have been identified. Objectives: To develop a measurement instrument to capture a patient's perspective of eczema control that is suitable for use in eczema clinical trials. Methods: Best practice for the development of a patient-reported outcome was followed. A mixed-methods approach was used to develop and refine a conceptual framework, generate, refine and select items and to test the distribution and construct validity of the final scale. The mixed-methods approach involved expert panel meetings (including patient representatives, healthcare professionals and methodologists), and data collection using a focus group, cognitive interviews and an online survey with people with eczema and caregivers. Multivariable linear regression was used in the item selection process. Results: Fourteen expert panel members co-produced the instrument, with input from people with eczema and caregivers via a focus group (n = 6), cognitive interviews (n = 13) and an online survey (n = 330). The resulting instrument, Recap of atopic eczema (RECAP), is a seven-item questionnaire that captures eczema control via self or caregiver report. The development process aimed to ensure good content validity and feasibility. Initial testing suggested no floor or ceiling effects and good construct validity. Hypothesized correlation with the Patient-Oriented Eczema Measure was confirmed [r(258) = 0·83, P < 0·001]. Conclusions: RECAP has the potential to improve reporting of eczema control in research and clinical practice. Further exploration of measurement properties is required. What's already known about this topic?. Eczema control has been identified as an important outcome by key stakeholders in eczema research (including patients, carers, healthcare professionals and researchers). Qualitative studies suggest eczema control is a multifaceted and individual experience and no instrument has been identified that captures eczema control in this way. What does this study add?. We have developed Recap of atopic eczema (RECAP), a seven-item questionnaire to capture the experience of eczema control in all ages and eczema severities; there are two versions: a self-reported version for adults and older children with eczema, and a caregiver-reported version for younger children with eczema. Designed with input from people with eczema, caregivers and healthcare professionals to ensure good content validity. Initial testing of score distributions and construct validity suggests good measurement properties. What are the clinical implications of the work?. The RECAP instrument is appropriate and feasible for measuring eczema control in clinical trials and may also be useful in routine practice.

  • Linked-read whole-genome sequencing resolves common and private structural variants in multiple myeloma
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Blood Advances. - : American Society of Hematology. - 2473-9529 .- 2473-9537. ; 6:17, s. 5009-5023
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Multiple myeloma (MM) is an incurable and aggressive plasma cell malignancy characterized by a complex karyotype with multiple structural variants (SVs) and copy-number variations (CNVs). Linked-read whole-genome sequencing (lrWGS) allows for refined detection and reconstruction of SVs by providing long-range genetic information from standard short-read sequencing. This makes lrWGS an attractive solution for capturing the full genomic complexity of MM. Here we show that high-quality lrWGS data can be generated from low numbers of cells subjected to fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS) without DNA purification. Using this protocol, we analyzed MM cells after FACS from 37 patients with MM using lrWGS. We found high concordance between lrWGS and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) for the detection of recurrent translocations and CNVs. Outside of the regions investigated by FISH, we identified .150 additional SVs and CNVs across the cohort. Analysis of the lrWGS data allowed for resolution of the structure of diverse SVs affecting the MYC and t(11;14) loci, causing the duplication of genes and gene regulatory elements. In addition, we identified private SVs causing the dysregulation of genes recurrently involved in translocations with the IGH locus and show that these can alter the molecular classification of MM. Overall, we conclude that lrWGS allows for the detection of aberrations critical for MM prognostics and provides a feasible route for providing comprehensive genetics. Implementing lrWGS could provide more accurate clinical prognostics, facilitate genomic medicine initiatives, and greatly improve the stratification of patients included in clinical trials.

  • All Killing superalgebras for warped AdS backgrounds
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics. - 1029-8479 .- 1126-6708. ; 2018:12
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present all the symmetry superalgebras ? of all warped AdSk ×wMd − k, k > 2, flux backgrounds in d = 10, 11 dimensions preserving any number of supersymmetries. First we give the conditions for ? to decompose into a direct sum of the isometry algebra of AdSk and that of the internal space Md − k. Assuming this decomposition, we identify all symmetry superalgebras of AdS3 backgrounds by showing that the isometry groups of internal spaces act transitively on spheres. We demonstrate that in type II and d = 11 theories the AdS3 symmetry superalgebras may not be simple and also present all symmetry superalgebras of heterotic AdS3 backgrounds. Furthermore, we explicitly give the symmetry superalgebras of AdSk, k > 3, backgrounds and prove that they are all classical.

  • Ingår i: Classical and Quantum Gravity. - : IOP Publishing. - 0264-9381 .- 1361-6382. ; 30:5, s. Art. no. 055014-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We utilize the classification of IIB horizons with 5-form flux to present a unified description for the geometry of AdS(n), n = 3, 5, 7 solutions. In particular, we show that all such backgrounds can be constructed from eight-dimensional 2-strong Calabi-Yau geometries with torsion which admit some additional isometries. We explore the geometry of AdS(3) and AdS(5) solutions but we do not find AdS(7) solutions.

  • Classification of IIB backgrounds with 28 supersymmetries
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics. - 1029-8479 .- 1126-6708. ; 2010:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We show that all IIB backgrounds with strictly 28 supersymmetries are locally isometric to the plane wave solution of arXiv:hep-th/0206195. Moreover, we demonstrate that all solutions with more than 26 supersymmetries and only 5-form flux are maximally supersymmetric. The N=28 plane wave solution is a superposition of the maximally supersymmetric IIB plane wave with a heterotic string solution. We investigate the propagation of strings in this background, find the spectrum and give the string light-cone Hamiltonian.

  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics. - 1029-8479 .- 1126-6708. ; 2015:6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We show that smooth type IIA Killing horizons with compact spatial sections preserve an even number of supersymmetries, and that the symmetry algebra of horizons with non-trivial fluxes includes an sl$$ \mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{l} $$(2, ℝ) subalgebra. This confirms the conjecture of [1] for type IIA horizons. As an intermediate step in the proof, we also demonstrate new Lichnerowicz type theorems for spin bundle connections whose holonomy is contained in a general linear group.

  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics. - 1029-8479 .- 1126-6708. ; 2011:9
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We classify under some assumptions the IIB black hole horizons with 5-form flux preserving more than 2 supersymmetries. We find that the spatial horizon sections with non-vanishing flux preserving 4 supersymmetries are locally isometric either to S(1) x S(3) x T(4) or to S(1) x S(3) x K(3) and the associated near horizon geometries are locally isometric to AdS(3) x S(3) x T(4) and AdS(3) x S(3) x K(3), respectively. The near horizon geometries preserving more than 4 supersymmetries are locally isometric to R(1,1) x T(8).

  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1029-8479 .- 1126-6708. ; 2011:5
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We investigate the near horizon geometry of IIB supergravity black holes with non-vanishing 5-form flux preserving at least two supersymmetries. We demonstrate that there are three classes of solutions distinguished by the choice of Killing spinors. We find that the spatial horizon sections of the class of solutions with an SU(4) invariant pure Killing spinor are hermitian manifolds and admit a hidden Kahler with torsion (KT) geometry compatible with the SU(4) structure. Moreover the Bianchi identity of the 5-form, which also implies the field equations, can be expressed in terms of the torsion H as d(omega boolean AND H) = partial derivative partial derivative omega(2) = 0, where omega is a Hermitian form. We give several examples of near horizon geometries which include group manifolds, group fibrations over KT manifolds and uplifted geometries of lower dimensional black holes. Furthermore, we show that the class of solutions associated with a Spin(7) invariant spinor is locally a product R-1,R-1 x S, where S is a holonomy Spin(7) manifold.

  • IIB horizons
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Classical and Quantum Gravity. - : IOP Publishing. - 0264-9381 .- 1361-6382. ; 30:20
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We solve the Killing spinor equations for all near-horizon IIB geometries which preserve at least one supersymmetry. We show that generic horizon sections are eight-dimensional almost Hermitian spin(c) manifolds. Special cases include horizon sections with a Spin(7) structure and those for which the Killing spinor is pure. We also explain how the common sector horizons and the horizons with only 5-form flux are included in our general analysis. We investigate several special cases mainly focusing on the horizons with constant scalars admitting a pure Killing spinor and find that some of these exhibit a generalization of the 2-SCYT condition that arises in the horizons with 5-form fluxes only. We use this to construct new examples of near-horizon geometries with both 3-form and 5-form fluxes.

  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1029-8479 .- 1126-6708. ; 2013:11
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We show that the number of supersymmetries of JIB black hole horizons is N = 2N_ + 2 index(D-lambda), where index(D-lambda) is the index of the Dirac operator twisted with the line bundle lambda(1/2) of IIB scalars, and N_ is the dimension of the kernel of a horizon Dirac operator which depends on IIB fluxes. Therefore, all IIB horizons preserve an even number of supersymmetries. In addition if the horizons have non-trivial fluxes and N_ not equal 0, then index(D-lambda) >= 0 and the horizons admit an sl(2,R) symmetry subalgebra. This provides evidence that all such horizons have an AdS/CFT dual. Furthermore if the orbits of sl(2,R) are two-dimensional, the IIB horizons are warped products AdS(2) x(w) S.

In particular, we find that the supercovariant curvature of all backgrounds which preserve 30 supersymmetries, subject to field equations and Bianchi identities, vanishes, and that there are no such solutions which arise as discrete quotients of maximally supersymmetric backgrounds.

  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian Journal of Rheumatology. - : Informa UK Limited. - 0300-9742 .- 1502-7732. ; 42:5, s. 373-378
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective: To determine the prevalence and clinical characteristics of psoriatic arthritis mutilans (PAM) in the Nordic countries. Method: Patients with putative PAM aged >= 18 years were recruited. Fifty-nine patients were included after clinical examination. Results: The prevalence of PAM in the adult Nordic population was estimated to be 3.69 per million inhabitants [95% confidence interval (CI) 2.75-4.63]. The female to male ratio was close to 1:1. The mean age of skin disease onset was 25 years and the mean age of onset of joint disease was 30 years. The onset of skin disease was 2 years earlier among female patients. At inclusion, the mean duration of arthritis was 27 +/- 11 years for male patients and 33 +/- 11 years for female patients. PAM was most frequently seen in the distal interphalangeal (DIP) joints of the toes, followed by the IP joint of the thumb and the DIP joint of the little finger on the left hand. Female and male patients had similar numbers of painful and swollen joints. Enthesitis was found in 19 patients (32%), while 38 patients (64%) had a history of dactylitis. Twenty-three of these 38 patients (61%) had a history of dactylitis in the same finger/toe as they had PAM. At the time of inclusion, 45% of the patients were found to have clear or almost clear skin. Conclusions: PAM in the Nordic countries has a low prevalence, with only three to five cases per million inhabitants. The majority of the patients present with mild skin disease.

  • 2014
  • Ingår i: 29th Conference on Precision Electromagnetic Measurements, CPEM 2014. ; , s. 522-523
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Josephson voltage standards are well established for use at dc and low-frequency ac voltages. The increasing demand i) to provide traceability for arbitrary waveforms, ii) to extend the range of use to higher frequencies, and iii) to improve the accuracy is being addressed in the project Q-WAVE, which is jointly funded by the European Union and the participating countries within the European Metrology Research Programme (EMRP). Here, sampling measurements and procedures using binary-divided 1 V and 10 V arrays are investigated. In addition, a quantum-based analogue-to-digital converter for direct measurements of arbitrary waveforms is under development. It will contain several Josephson arrays in series biased by a pulse drive based on opto-electronics, in order to increase the output voltage.

  • Linear response theory: from black holes to Weyl systems and back
  • 2022
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Linear response theory is a powerful calculation tool in quantum field theory. We apply this framework to a variety of models originating from distinct areas in theoretical physics and for different reasons. In the context of black hole holography, we consider a quench model where we investigate effective thermalization, as well as the boundary signal of so-called evanescent modes which indicate the presence of a black hole-like object in the bulk. The problem of quantum thermalization plays a central role within the holographic duality between thermal states in the boundary field theory and black hole-like objects in the bulk. However, quantum thermalization is also an interesting question in itself from a fundamental point of view. Inspired by recent progress in understanding how operators in quantum field theories thermalize, which occurs even when considering integrable models, we investigate the so-called operator thermalization hypothesis. We focus on gauge theories at finite temperature with a large number of fields which present a phase transition between the low-temperature and high-temperature regimes. In a separate application of linear response theory, we investigate transport properties in a family of Weyl semimetal systems. Concretely, we develop a general analytic method to compute the magneto-optical conductivity of these systems in the presence of an external magnetic field aligned with the tilt of the spectrum. Last, we examine non-Hermitian Weyl-like systems as potential analogue black hole models and suggest a specific parity-time-symmetric dissipative Hamiltonian displaying analogue Hawking radiation.

  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Lupus. - : SAGE Publications. - 0961-2033 .- 1477-0962. ; 23:14, s. 1546-1552
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Multiple sources were used to identify 325 systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients within the city of Oslo during 1999-2009 who met >= 4 of the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) criteria. The survival, standard mortality rate (SMR), years of potential life loss before 60 years of age (YPLL60) and causes of death of these patients were examined and compared to a matched control population. Only inception cases (127) were studied in the calculation of survival. The analysis includes underlying, immediate and contributing causes of death. The five-and 10-year survival was 95% and 90%, respectively, which was significantly reduced when compared to the general population. A total of 50 SLE patients died during the study period. Overall SMR was 3.0 (95% confidence interval (CI) 2.2-3.8) with the highest SMR found for female patients aged 16-39 years old. SLE patients had a 10 times higher rate of YPLL60 compared to the control group. YPLL emphasizes active disease and reduces the importance of cancer as a cause of death in SLE. This study demonstrates that YPLL gives additional and useful information for the prognosis of SLE, supplementing traditional methods of measuring mortality.

  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We demonstrate the application of scanning spreading resistance microscopy (SSRM) for characterization of shallow highly-conductive layers formed by boron implantation of lowly doped n-type silicon substrate followed by a post-implantation annealing. The electrically active dopant concentration versus depth was obtained from a cross-section of freshly cleaved samples where the Si-surface could be clearly distinguished by depositing a SiO2-layer before cleavage. To quantify free carrier concentration we calibrated our data against samples with implanted/annealed boron profiles established by secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS). A good fit of SSRM and SIMS data is possible for free carrier concentrations lower than 10(20) cm(-3), but for higher concentrations there is a discrepancy indicating an incomplete activation of the boron.
