  • Faith in the Wake of Disaster : A Longitudinal Qualitative Study of Religious Attachment Following a Catastrophic Flood
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Psychological Trauma. - : American Psychological Association (APA). - 1942-9681 .- 1942-969X. ; 11:6, s. 578-587
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective: This longitudinal qualitative study explores the impact of natural disasters on religious attachment (perceived relationship with God). We sought to validate and conceptually extend the religion-as-attachment model in a postdisaster context.Method: At 4 weeks (T1; n = 36) and 6 months postdisaster (T2; n = 29), survivors of the 2016 Louisiana flood completed a disaster-adapted version of the Religious Attachment Interview (Granqvist & Main, 2017).Results: At T1 and T2. survivors emphasized God being a safe haven (source of protection, comfort, or nurturance). This emphasis was especially pronounced for survivors who were directly affected (their home or business flooded) or had previous disaster exposure to Hurricane Katrina. Overall, survivors consistently emphasized God serving as a stronger and wiser attachment figure, and it was rare for them to report experiencing perceived separation or loss of intimacy from God. At T1 and T2, around 85% of survivors described their current religious attachment as either having a positive affective quality (e.g., closer, stronger) or as no different from before the disaster; around 15% said it had a negative affective quality (e.g., disappointed, strained). In describing their postdisaster religion/spirituality, survivors highlighted (a) God being a source of love, comfort, strength, and hope; (b) actively putting trust/faith in God; and (c) experiencing God through family/community.Conclusion: Results support and conceptually extend the religion-as-attachment model in a postdisaster context. Findings suggest disasters activate the attachment system, and survivors commonly view and relate with God as an attachment figure, especially one who serves as a safe haven.

  • Religious meaning making and attachment in a disaster context : A longitudinal qualitative study of flood survivors
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Journal of Positive Psychology. - : Informa UK Limited. - 1743-9760 .- 1743-9779. ; 14:5, s. 659-671
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The goal of this longitudinal qualitative study was to develop a grounded theory of religious meaning making and attachment in a disaster context. At 1-month (T1; n = 36) and 6-months postdisaster (T2; n = 29), we conducted in-depth interviews with a highly religious sample of adult survivors of the 2016 Louisiana flood, using a disaster-adapted version of the Religious Attachment Interview. We utilized Corbin and Strauss's grounded-theory approach for data analysis. At both timepoints, results revealed that survivors who were theistic believers engaged in postdisaster religious meaning making in which they drew on benevolent God representations and theodicies to appraise the disaster's cause, purpose, and religious-attachment effects, thereby contributing to positive religious-attachment outcomes (religious meanings made; e.g. renewed beliefs and experiences of God's benevolence and providence). Findings are discussed in terms of theories and research on disasters, meaning making, and religious attachment, including implications for research and practice.

  • Effects of mining on reindeer/caribou populations and indigenous livelihoods : Community-based monitoring by Sami reindeer herders in Sweden and First Nations in Canada
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: The Polar Journal. - : Taylor and Francis Ltd.. - 2154-896X .- 2154-8978. ; 4:1, s. 28-51
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper explores the effects of human disturbances associated with mine development in the Arctic on habitat and populations of reindeer/caribou (both Rangifer tarandus), and implications for reindeer husbandry and caribou hunting of indigenous Sami people in Sweden and First Nations in Canada. Through three case studies, we illustrate how Cree and Naskapi communities develop community- based geospatial information tools to collect field data on caribou migration and habitat changes, and how Sami reindeer herders use GIS to gather information about reindeer husbandry to better communicate impacts of mining on reindeer grazing areas. Findings indicate impacts on the use of disturbed habitat by reindeer/caribou, on migration routes, and northern livelihoods. The three cases present novel methods for community-based environmental monitoring, with applications in hazards mapping and denote the active engagement of indigenous communities in polar environmental assessments, generating community-oriented data for land use management decisions. They also illustrate how technology can lead to better communication and its role for empowerment.

  • Evaporation of WO3 on Carbon Nanotube Films : a new hybrid film
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Smart materials and structures. - : IOP Publishing. - 0964-1726 .- 1361-665X. ; 15:6, s. 1555-1560
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Hybrid WO3-CNT ( carbon nanotube) films were prepared in two steps: in the first step, the drop coating method was employed for coating silicon substrates with a MWCNT (multiwalled CNT) film prepared with oxygen plasma functionalized MWCNTs; in the second step, a layer of WO3 nanoparticles was deposited over the MWCNT film by using an advanced gas deposition unit. The WO3 nanoparticles are formed by condensation. SEM images show that the morphology of the hybrid films is characterized by an overlayer formed from WO3 particles anchored at the surface of a well-dispersed MWCNT underlayer. TEM images show that the hybrid films are composed of a WO3 matrix supported through a dispersed mesh of CNTs-the CNTs act as internal pillars. This morphology increases the surface area for gas interaction.

  • Towards Oxide Electronics: a Roadmap
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Applied Surface Science. - : Elsevier BV. - 0169-4332 .- 1873-5584. ; 482, s. 1-93
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • At the end of a rush lasting over half a century, in which CMOS technology has been experiencing a constant and breathtaking increase of device speed and density, Moore’s law is approaching the insurmountable barrier given by the ultimate atomic nature of matter. A major challenge for 21st century scientists is finding novel strategies, concepts and materials for replacing silicon-based CMOS semiconductor technologies and guaranteeing a continued and steady technological progress in next decades. Among the materials classes candidate to contribute to this momentous challenge, oxide films and heterostructures are a particularly appealing hunting ground. The vastity, intended in pure chemical terms, of this class of compounds, the complexity of their correlated behaviour, and the wealth of functional properties they display, has already made these systems the subject of choice, worldwide, of a strongly networked, dynamic and interdisciplinary research community. Oxide science and technology has been the target of a wide four-year project, named Towards Oxide-Based Electronics (TO-BE), that has been recently running in Europe and has involved as participants several hundred scientists from 29 EU countries. In this review and perspective paper, published as a final deliverable of the TO-BE Action, the opportunities of oxides as future electronic materials for Information and Communication Technologies ICT and Energy are discussed. The paper is organized as a set of contributions, all selected and ordered as individual building blocks of a wider general scheme. After a brief preface by the editors and an introductory contribution, two sections follow. The first is mainly devoted to providing a perspective on the latest theoretical and experimental methods that are employed to investigate oxides and to produce oxide-based films, heterostructures and devices. In the second, all contributions are dedicated to different specific fields of applications of oxide thin films and heterostructures, in sectors as data storage and computing, optics and plasmonics, magnonics, energy conversion and harvesting, and power electronics.

  • Dye-sensitized sputtered titanium oxide films for photovoltaic applications : influence of the O2/Ar gas flow ratio during the deposition
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Solar Energy Materials and Solar Cells. - 0927-0248 .- 1879-3398. ; 76:1, s. 37-56
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Titanium oxide films were prepared by reactive DC magnetron sputtering onto SnO2:F coated glass substrates. The O-2/Ar gas flow ratio was kept at a constant value Gamma during the deposition, and a series of films were deposited with 0.050 < Gamma < 0.072. Structural studies were performed by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy; the structure displayed penniform features with a clear dependence on F. Charge transport in the films was evaluated by use of time-resolved photocurrents; a diffusion model was fitted to the experimental data and two different transport mechanisms were proposed depending on the film stoichiometry. Dye sensitization in cis-dithiocyanato-bis(2,2'-bipyridyl-4,4'-dicarboxylate) ruthenium (II) was performed to evaluate incident photon-to-current conversion efficiency and solar cell properties of the films. These parameters showed a clear dependence on Gamma. Optical measurements gave evidence for the presence of polaron absorption for the film deposited at Gamma = 0.050.

  • Optical band-gap determination of nanostructured WO3 film
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Applied Physics Letters. - : AIP Publishing. - 0003-6951 .- 1077-3118. ; 96:6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The optical band-gap energy of a nanostructured tungsten trioxide film is determined using the photoacoustic spectroscopy method under continuous light excitation. The mechanism of the photoacoustic signal generation is discussed. The band-gap energy is also computed by other methods. The absorption coefficient as well as the band-gap energy of three different crystal structures of tungsten trioxide is calculated by a first-principles Green's function approach using the projector augmented wave method. The theoretical study indicates that the cubic crystal structure shows good agreement with the experimental data.

  • Chromogenics for sustainable energy: Some advances in thermochromics and electrochromics
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Advances in Science and Technology. - 2229-5216. ; 75, s. 55-64
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • ABSTRACT: Chromogenic materials are able to change their optical properties in response to external stimuli such as temperature (in thermochromic materials) and electrical charge insertion (in electrochromic materials). Below we review some recent advances for these types of materials. Specifically we first discuss the limitations of thermochromic VO2 films for energy efficient fenestration and show from calculations that nanocomposites containing VO2 can have superior properties and display high luminous transmittance and large temperature-dependent solar transmittance modulation. Even better results may be found for nanoparticles of VO2:Mg. In the second part of the paper we survey some recent progress for electrochromic devices and show that W oxide films have increased coloration efficiency when some Ni oxide is added. We also present initial results for flexible electrochromic foils produced by roll-to-roll coating and continuous lamination.Article · Oct 2010 · Advances in Science and Technology

  • The scent of security : Odor of romantic partner alters subjective discomfort and autonomic stress responses in an adult attachment-dependent manner
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Physiology and Behavior. - : Elsevier BV. - 0031-9384 .- 1873-507X. ; 198, s. 144-150
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • When in a stressful situation, access to adult attachment figures (e.g., romantic partners) is an important means by which adults regulate stress responses. The practice of smelling a partner's worn garment is reported as a self-treatment against stress. Here, we experimentally determined whether exposure to a partner's body odor attenuates adults' subjective discomfort and psychophysiological responses, and whether such effects are qualified by adult attachment security. In a blocked design, participants (N = 34) were presented with their partner's body odor, their own body odor, the odor of a clean t-shirt and rose odor, while exposed to weak electric shocks to induce discomfort and stress responses. Results showed that partner body odor reduces subjective discomfort during a stressful event, as compared with the odor of oneself. Also, highly secure participants had attenuated skin conductance when exposed to partner odor. We conclude that partner odor is a scent of security, especially for attachment-secure adults.

  • Electrochromic properties of nickel oxide based thin films sputter deposited in the presence of water vapor
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Thin Solid Films. - : Elsevier BV. - 0040-6090 .- 1879-2731. ; 520:10, s. 3839-3842
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Electrochromic nickel oxide based thin films were prepared by reactive RF magnetron sputtering from metallic nickel in the presence of Ar, O-2 and H2O. The water vapor led to enhanced optical modulation and charge capacity. At a wavelength of 550 nm the bleached state transmittance was 0.73 and the transmittance for the colored state was 0.28 and 0.15 for water partial pressures of p(H2O)<10(-3) Pa and p(H2O) similar to 7 x 10(-2) Pa, respectively. The charge densities were 14 and 25 mC/cm(2) for p(H2O)<10(-3) Pa and P-H2O similar to 7 x 10(-2) Pa, respectively. The coloration efficiency was decreased with increased water partial pressure, from about 0.07 to 0.06 cm(2)/mC. Preliminary results show that the H2O promotes an amorphous structure and makes the films increasingly hydrous.

  • Female Voice-Related Sexual Attractiveness to Males : Does it Vary With Different Degrees of Conception Likelihood?
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Journal of Voice. - : Elsevier BV. - 0892-1997 .- 1873-4588.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Previous investigations have found that female voice-related attractiveness to males increases when both conception likelihood (CL) and voice fundamental frequency (fo) are elevated. To test this hypothesis, we conducted a perceptual experiment where 78 heterosexual males rated sexual attractiveness of 9 female voice samples, recorded at menstrual, follicular and luteal phases of the menstrual cycle under two double-blinded randomly allocated conditions: a natural menstrual cycle (placebo condition) and when using an oral contraceptive pill (OCP condition). The voice samples yielded a total of 54 stimuli that were visually sorted and rated using Visor software. Concentrations of estrogens, progesterone and testosterone were analyzed, and measurements of speaking fundamental frequency (sfo) and its standard deviation (sfoSD), fo derivative (dfo) and fo slope were made. A multilevel ordinal logistic regression model nested in listeners and in females, and adjusted by phase and condition, was carried out to assess the association between ratings and: (1) phases and conditions; (2) sex steroid hormonal concentrations; and (3) voice parameters. A high probability of obtaining high ratings of voice sexual attractiveness was found for: (1) menstrual phase of placebo use and follicular phase of OCP use; (2) for low estradiol to progesterone ratio and testosterone concentrations; and (3) for low dfo. The latter showed a moderate statistical association with ratings of high attractiveness, as compared with the small association found for the remaining variables. It seems that the voice is a weak cue for female CL. Female sexual attraction to males may be a consequence of what females do in order to regulate their extended sexuality across the menstrual cycle rather than of estrus cues, the use of paralinguistic speech patterns being an example.

  • Nanoparticles of TiO2 and VO2 in dielectric media : Conditions for low optical scattering, and comparison between effective medium and four-flux theories
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Solar Energy Materials and Solar Cells. - : Saunders Elsevier. - 0927-0248 .- 1879-3398. ; 130:SI, s. 132-137
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Spectral transmittance and reflectance in the 300 to 2500 nm solar-optical wavelength range were calculated for nanoparticles of titanium dioxide and vanadium dioxide with radii between 5 and 100 nm embedded in transparent dielectric media. Both of the materials are of large importance in green nanotechnologies: thus TiO2 is a photocatalyst that can be applied as a porous film or a nanoparticle composite on indoor or outdoor surfaces for environmental remediation, and VO2 is a thermochromic material with applications to energy-efficient fenestration. The optical properties, including scattering, of the nanoparticle composites were computed from the Maxwell–Garnett effective-medium theory as well as from a four-flux radiative transfer model. Predictions from these theories approach one another in the limit of small particles and in the absence of optical interference. Effects of light scattering can be modeled only by the four-flux theory, though. We found that nanoparticle radii should be less than ~20 nm in order to avoid pronounced light scattering.

  • SveDem, the Swedish Dementia Registry - A tool for improving the quality of diagnostics, treatment and care of dementia patients in clinical practice
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: PLoS ONE. - : Public Library of Science (PLoS). - 1932-6203. ; 10:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: The Swedish Dementia Registry (SveDem) was developed with the aim to improve the quality of diagnostic work-up, treatment and care of patients with dementia disorders in Sweden. Methods: SveDem is an internet based quality registry where several indicators can be followed over time. It includes information about the diagnostic work-up, medical treatment and community support (www.svedem.se). The patients are diagnosed and followed-up yearly in specialist units, primary care centres or in nursing homes. Results: The database was initiated in May 2007 and covers almost all of Sweden. There were 28 722 patients registered with a mean age of 79.3 years during 2007-2012. Each participating unit obtains continuous online statistics from its own registrations and they can be compared with regional and national data. A report from SveDem is published yearly to inform medical and care professionals as well as political and administrative decision-makers about the current quality of diagnostics, treatment and care of patients with dementia disorders in Sweden. Conclusion: SveDem provides knowledge about current dementia care in Sweden and serves as a framework for ensuring the quality of diagnostics, treatment and care across the country. It also reflects changes in quality dementia care over time. Data from SveDem can be used to further develop the national guidelines for dementia and to generate new research hypotheses.
