- Early gender archaeology formulated two statements: men are visible, women are invisible, and men work in hard materials, women work in soft materials. We discuss these dichotomies in connection with nineteenth-century folklore and an excavated eighteenth-century cottage at a summer-farm. We conclude that much of the gendered order-of-work tasks broke down in pragmatic day-to-day life, especially by women crossing the gender border. However, social chaos was held at bay by ritual acts and magic objects.

- A term boy with spontaneous passage of meconium exhibited episodes of abdominal distension and diarrhea. Due to failure to thrive and suspicion of Hischsprung's disease he was referred to our university hospital at five months of age. Rectal biopsies were normal. Laparotomy revealed dilation of the small bowel and colon without any mechanical obstruction. Full thickness bowel biopsies were taken and a loop ileostomy was constructed. Histopathology revealed fibrosing myopathy, Cajal cell hypertrophy, and neuronal degeneration in both the large and small bowel. The small bowel showed mastocytosis without inflammation. A central venous catheter was placed for vascular access, replaced three times and later switched to a subcutaneous venous port. Catheters were locked after use with vancomycin-heparin and later taurolidine. The individually tailored home parenteral nutrition contained unsaturated fatty acid lipids to reduce cholestasis. Initial insufficient growth was improved after correction of partial parenteral nutrition based on a metabolic balance study. The ileostomy was revised once and finally taken down at 11 years of age following one year without parenteral support. At follow-up at 13 years of age he has episodes of moderate abdominal pain and has entered puberty and reports a high quality of life. (C) 2017 The Authors. Published by Elsevier Inc.

- The current study investigates acoustic correlates to perceived hesitation based on previous work showing that pause duration and final lengthening both contribute to the perception of hesitation. It is the total duration increase that is the valid cue rather than the contribution by either factor. The present experiment using speech synthesis was designed to evaluate F0 slope and presence vs. absence of creaky voice before the inserted hesitation in addition to durational cues. The manipulations occurred in two syntactic positions, within a phrase and between two phrases, respectively. The results showed that in addition to durational increase, variation of both F0 slope and creaky voice had perceptual effects, although to a much lesser degree. The results have a bearing on efforts to model spontaneous speech including disfluencies, to be explored, for example, in spoken dialogue systems.

- This paper describes our work on building aformant synthesis system based on both rule generated and database driven methods. Three parametric synthesis systems are discussed: our traditional rule based system, a speaker adapted system, and finally a gesture system.The gesture system is a further development of the adapted system in that it includes concatenated formant gestures from a data-driven unit library. The systems are evaluated technically, comparing the formant tracks with an analysed test corpus. The gesture system results in a 25% error reduction in the formant frequencies due to the inclusion of the stored gestures. Finally, a perceptual evaluation shows a clear advantage in naturalness for the gesture system compared to both the traditional system and the speaker adapted system.

- In our efforts to model spontaneous speech for use in, for example, spoken dialogue systems, a series of experiments have been conducted in order to investigate correlates to perceived hesitation. Previous work has shown that it is the total duration increase that is the valid cuerather than the contribution by either of the two factors pause duration and final lengthening. In the present experiment we explored the effects of F0 slope variation and the presence vs. absence of creaky voice in addition to durational cues, using synthetic stimuli. The results showed that variation of both F0 slope and creaky voice did have perceptual effects, but to amuch lesser degree than the durational increase.

- Purpose: To disclose the frequency of abdominal pain that led to post‐procedure hospitalization and the outcome of this major complication. Material and Methods: 576 patients who had undergone herniography during a 13‐year period were retrospectively analysed. Results: Nine out of 576 patients (1.6%) undergoing herniography with an iodine contrast medium developed abdominal pain. The pain resolved within 24 h in 6 patients while 3 patients had pain for up to 3 days. Conclusion: Patients who present with this pain syndrome thus only need careful clinical observation until asymptomatic, with no need for laparotomy or X‐ray examination. Prior to herniography, the patients should be informed about this potential complication.

- This paper describes some studies on the effect of the system vocabulary on the lexical choices of the users. There are many theories about human-human dialogues that could be useful in the design of spoken dialoguesystems. This paper will give an overview of some of these theories and report the results from two experiments that examines one of these theories, namely lexical entrainment. The first experiment was a small Wizard of Oz-test that simulated a tourist informationsystem with a speech interface, and the second experiment simulated a system with speech recognition that controlled a questionnaire about peoples plans for their vacation. Both experiments show that the subjects mostly adapt their lexical choices to the system questions. Only in less than 5% of the cases did they use an alternative main verb in the answer. These results encourage us to investigate the possibility to add anadaptive language model in the speech recognizer in our dialogue system, where the probabilities for the words used in the system questions are increased.

Prevalence of Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato infection in Ixodes ricinus in Sweden

- Between 1988-1991, a total of 3,141 Ixodes ricinus ticks, 2,740 adults and 401 nymphs, was collected from different localities in 23 of the 25 provinces of Sweden. The ticks were identified, dissected and examined for the presence of Borrelia spirochetes. Indirect immunofluorescence was performed, using an antiserum obtained from rabbits, immunized with sonicated, whole Borrelia burgdorferi spirochetes isolated from Swedish Ixodes ricinus ticks. Borrelia-positive I. ricinus were found in all 23 provinces. The prevalence of infection in adults ranged from 3% in Jämtland to 23% in Södermanland. In nymphs, the infection prevalence ranged from 0% in 9 provinces to 15% in Södermanland. A significantly greater proportion of the adult ticks were found to be positive for Borrelia in the southern and central parts of Sweden as compared to the northern part (Norrland). No significant difference in prevalence could be demonstrated between the western and eastern parts of Sweden. On average, 10% of the nymphs and 15% of the adult I. ricinus were positive for Borrelia. Of 41 non-I. ricinus ticks, none was positive for Borrelia. This study shows that Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato is present throughout the distributional area of I. ricinus in Sweden. This should lead to increased awareness of signs and symptoms compatible with Lyme borreliosis in persons living in or visiting areas where I. ricinus is present.

- Av de 28 senaste barnen med anorektala missbildningar på vår klinik hade tolv fistel till perineum, analmembran eller fistel till vestibulum vaginae. Av dem upptäcktes fem sent – upp till sju månader efter födelsen.Tre av dessa fem hade uttalade förstoppningsbesvär med krystbeteende, och föräldrarna hade påpekat att anus hade avvikande utseende.Hos två av barnen visade utredning missbildningar i fler organ.
