  • To facilitate a fair bioeconomy transition, stronger regional-level linkages are needed
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Biofuels Bioproducts & Biorefining-Biofpr. - : Wiley. - 1932-104X .- 1932-1031. ; 16:4, s. 929-941
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The great hopes in Brussels that a circular bioeconomy will help bridge the growing divide between urban and rural areas and allow the hinterlands to prosper from 'green growth' are addressed in this article, which reflects on insights from three Nordic case studies of brown, green and blue biomass use at different levels of technology readiness. A closer examination of the forward, backward, fiscal and final demand linkages at regional level from increased biomass utilization, from eastern Finland and northern Sweden to Jutland and North Atlantic islands, suggests that linkages are and will remain relatively weak, predominantly dashing the expectations. As suppliers and exporters of natural resources, disadvantaged regions may all too easily get locked into a 'staples trap', where the value creation evaporates owing in part to the steep start-up costs and the associated boom-and-bust cycles, which place them in a weak position vis-a-vis the resource manufacturers and consumers. To make the prospects of development, employment and prosperity in the hinterlands materialize, measures are needed to strengthen the regional-level economic linkages. Regional-level revolving funds based on benefit-sharing instruments related to natural resources can be used to bolster economic development, as reflected in such schemes present in both China and Canada. We call for further research into whether and how such approaches can be replicated successfully by channeling revenues from biomass cultivation to regional-scale revolving funds, with mandates to strengthen long-term economic linkages and prosperity within the hinterlands. • SIGNATURE INVERSION IN CS-120 - EVIDENCE FOR A RESIDUAL PN INTERACTION
  • 1992
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Physics A. - 0375-9474 .- 1873-1554. ; 542:3, s. 454-478
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • High-spin states have been observed in the odd-odd isotope 120Cs in S-32-induced reactions. The previously known band is extended to higher spin and several new bands are identified. Band-head configurations have been inferred by comparing the band properties with known bands in the odd nuclei 121Cs and 121Ba. A remarkable signature inversion is observed in the pi-h11/2 x nu-h11/2 band. The experimental data are compared with calculations made within the total routhian surface model and the two-particle plus triaxial rotor model. It is concluded that a significant residual pn interaction rather than triaxiality is responsible for the signature inversion phenomenon in the pi-h11/2 x nu-h11/2 band of 120Cs.(~)[GRAPHICS]

  • HIGH-SPIN PHENOMENA IN OS-174
  • 1992
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Physics A. - 0375-9474 .- 1873-1554. ; 545:4, s. 871-888

    • High-spin states of 174Os have been investigated by means of the (Nd(S, 4n)Os)-Nd-146-S-32-Os-174 reaction using the ESSA30 multidetector system. The decay is dominated by the ground-state positive-parity band, two negative-parity 4- and 5- bands and another band starting at spin 9. Deformed shell-model calculations have been carried out to interpret the observed band structures. The role of the strongly shape-driving, non-aligned, pi-h9/2 configuration in the low-spin region of the ground-state band is discussed. The first band crossing is interpreted as due to the nu-i13/2 alignment. The two lowest side-bands are understood in terms of coupling to octupole excitations.

  • COLLECTIVE EXCITATIONS IN CD-106
  • 1994
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Physics A. - : Elsevier BV. - 0375-9474 .- 1873-1554. ; 571:2, s. 393-412

    • High Spin states in 106Cd were populated by the reactions Zr-94(O-17, 5n) and Ge(S-32, 4n) at 80 MeV and at 148 MeV, respectively. The gamma-decay was studied by gamma-spectroscopic methods using the Nordball multi-detector army. Protons and alpha-particles were detected in particle detector system, thus selecting the neutron channel. The experiment included gamma-ray yields, gammagamma-coincidences and gamma-ray angular relation measurements. Collective bands extending up to spin 26+, 20- and 21-, have been observed in 106Cd. A new lifetime Of 11(-3)+6 ns for the 16+ state at 7118.7 keV has been found. Both total Routhian surfaces and spin diabatic surfaces have been calculated and used for assigning quasiparticle configurations to the bands. The (+, 0) band is assigned as a nuh11/2(2) configuration below I = 16+ and at higher spins suggested to be built on a pig9/2(2)nuh11/2(2) configuration. The large hindrance observed for the decay from the 16+ state supports the latter assignment. With the alignment of the nuh11/12(2) pair the deformation is predicted to change from (epsilon2,gamma) = (0.13,-2-degrees) to (0.17, 4-degrees). The configuration of the negative parity bands is assigned as either a nuh11/2(1)d5/2(1) or a nuh11/2(1)(g7/2xd5/2)1, With (epsilon2, gamma) = (0.14,9-degrees.

  • Caseload midwifery in a rural Australian setting : A qualitative descriptive study
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: European Journal of Midwifery. - : E.U. European Publishing. - 2585-2906. ; 5:January, s. 1-9
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • INTRODUCTION Midwifery-led continuity of care models are beneficial to women and babies, but might be challenging for midwives. Several studies have, however, shown that midwives report higher job satisfaction and less burnout when working with caseload. Another challenge is to staff such models in rural areas. The aim of this study was to describe midwives' experiences of working in a caseload model in a rural region of Australia. METHODS A qualitative descriptive approach using interviews and thematic analysis was undertaken with eleven midwives. RESULTS The overarching theme, ‘A modified caseload model of care in rural Australia creates opportunities for increased job satisfaction despite the challenges involved with being on call', comprised: two themes, ‘Increased job satisfaction' and ‘Challenges'; one core theme, ‘Being on call'; and several subthemes. Working with caseload creates job satisfaction and increases vitality and positive feelings about being a midwife. The main difficulty, as well as the necessity with this model, is the challenging aspect of being on call. CONCLUSIONS Caseload midwifery builds partnership between the woman and her midwife, it allows flexible working hours and increased autonomy, even when the work affects the midwife's social life. Being on call allows the midwife to work on the whole scope of midwifery practice and is a basis for the continuity model of care; however, being on call also represents a challenge to be overcome in order to make caseload work. Continuity models may be a means to attract midwives to work in rural areas.

  • ALIGNMENT PROCESSES IN CS-119, CS-121 AND CS-123
  • 1992
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Physics A. - 0375-9474 .- 1873-1554. ; 550:2, s. 365-390
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Rotational band structures have been observed in the odd-A Cs isotopes 119Cs, 121Cs and 123Cs. The previously known bands have been extended to higher spin values and several new bands have been established. Alignments of both h11/2 protons and neutrons are seen. Of special interest are the alignment frequencies in the (tentative) [422]3/2+ and [404]9/2+ bands which indicate a configuration-dependent proton pairing. Furthermore, the variation of the interaction strength at the first band crossing in the h11/2 bands does not follow the standard cranked-shell-model predictions. This feature is in line with previous systematic observations of alignment processes in high-j intruder bands, and might infer an additional band mixing due to a neutron-proton interaction.(~)[GRAPHICS]

  • Creating a Safe Haven- Women's Experiences of the Midwife's Professional Skills During Planned Home Birth in Four Nordic Countries
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Birth-Issues in Perinatal Care. - : Wiley. - 0730-7659 .- 1523-536X. ; 41:1, s. 100-107
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • ObjectiveThe midwife assisting a birth has a considerable influence on the woman's experience of the birth. The aim of this study was to investigate the experience of the midwife's professional skills among women in Norway, Denmark, Iceland, and Sweden who chose a planned home birth. Design and SettingAll known home birth midwives were asked to inform the mothers about the project and invite them to complete a questionnaire about different aspects of their home birth experience. MethodThe women were asked to assess 10 different aspects of the midwives' professional skills on a 4-graded scale below the main question: What was your experience of the midwife who assisted the labor? Furthermore, the mothers' experiences with the attending midwives were identified in the free text birth stories. The chosen method was a mixed method design. FindingsThe home birth midwives' professional skills were generally high scored. No statistically significant differences were found with respect to the assessment of the midwife. The content analyses yielded one overarching theme: The competence and presence of the midwife creates a safe haven, and three categories, midwife's safe hand, midwife's caring approach, and midwife's peaceful presence. ConclusionWomen choosing a home birth in the four Nordic countries experienced that their midwives were highly skilled and they found the presence of the midwives valuable in helping them to feel safe and confident during birth. Despite differences in organization and guidelines for home births, the women's experience of the midwife's professional skills did not differ between the four countries.
