  • A time projection chamber with GEM-based readout
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research, Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment. - : Elsevier BV. - 0168-9002. ; 856, s. 109-118
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • For the International Large Detector concept at the planned International Linear Collider, the use of time projection chambers (TPC) with micro-pattern gas detector readout as the main tracking detector is investigated. In this paper, results from a prototype TPC, placed in a 1. T solenoidal field and read out with three independent Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) based readout modules, are reported. The TPC was exposed to a 6. GeV electron beam at the DESY II synchrotron. The efficiency for reconstructing hits, the measurement of the drift velocity, the space point resolution and the control of field inhomogeneities are presented.

  • Transport Policy Scenarios for the EU : 2020 Images of the Future
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Innovation. ; 13:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • It is essential to take a longer term view if sustainable mobility is to become a reality. This paper takes a perspective to 2020 and constructs Images of the future which conform to the principles of sustainable mobility. Set at the EU level, clear environmental, regional development and efficiency targets are set, within which strategies are developed, based on different combinations of technological innovation and the decoupling of economic growth from transport growth. The external political situation is taken as given with either a move towards greater co-operation (and extension) or towards greater fragmentation (and regionalisaization) in Europe. The three Images of the future (2020) demonstrate that challenging targets for sustainable mobility can be achieved through a range of different policy actions within the transport sector and more widely. Immediate action is required and even more difficult choices will have to be made in the EU 15, if large-scale extension of the EU takes place. Improvements in vehicle technology alone will not achieve the targets. More fundamental changes have to take place in the way in which people make travel choices and in the means by which freight is transported. All of these measures must involve less travel, more efficient and cleaner travel modes.

  • Miniaturized thermal biosensors
  • 1996
  • Ingår i: Biochemical Technology. - 1569-2558. - 0762301147 - 9780762301140 ; 15, s. 499-505
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A summary of our efforts to develop miniaturized biosensors based on the enzyme thermistor is presented. Three constructions are described. The work focuses on the measurement of glucose in whole blood. The first biosensor was used to analyze concentrated and tenfold diluted blood samples. The glucose concentration obtained using this construction correlated well with the reference method.Using the second biosensor, the response time could be reduced from 3 minutes down to 30 seconds using a sample volume of 1 μl. The relative standard deviation for 100 blood samples (3.8 tnM) was 3.7%.Micromachining technology was used to construct the third thermal biosensor on a silicon chip. Enzymes were immobilized directly onto the 30 parallel flow channels. Injection of 200 samples containing 10 mM hydrogen peroxide gave a relative standard deviation of 3%.

  • Front-end electronics and readout system for the ILD TPC
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Journal of Instrumentation. - 1748-0221. ; 10
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A high resolution TPC is the main option for a central tracking detector at the future International Linear Collider (ILC). It is planned that the MPGD (Micro Pattern Gas Detector) technology will be used for the readout. A Large Prototype TPC at DESY has been used to test the performance of MPGDs in an electron beam of energies up to 6 GeV. The first step in the technology development was to demonstrate that the MPGDs are able to achieve the necessary performance set by the goals of ILC. For this 'proof of principle' phase, the ALTRO front-end electronics from the ALICE TPC was used, modified to adapt to MPGD readout. The proof of principle has been verified and at present further improvement of the MPGD technology is going on, using the same readout electronics. The next step is the 'feasibility phase', which aims at producing front-end electronics comparable in size (few mm2) to the readout pads of the TPC. This development work is based on the succeeding SALTRO16 chip, which combines the analogue and digital signal processing in the same chip. This paper summarizes the status of this work and discusses how the experiences made so far can be exploited to improve the final readout electronics.

  • Effects on Subclinical Heart Failure in Type 2 Diabetic Subjects on Liraglutide Treatment vs. Glimepiride Both in Combination with Metformin : A Randomized Open Parallel-Group Study
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Frontiers in Endocrinology. - : Frontiers Media S.A.. - 1664-2392. ; 8
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective: We aimed to investigate the effect of liraglutide treatment on heart function in type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients with subclinical heart failure. Methods: Randomized open parallel-group trial. 62 T2D patients (45 male) with subclinical heart failure were randomized to either once daily liraglutide 1.8 mg, or glimepiride 4 mg, both add on to metformin 1 g twice a day. Mitral annular systolic (s') and early diastolic (e') velocities were measured at rest and during bicycle ergometer exercise, using tissue Doppler echocardiography. The primary endpoint was 18-week treatment changes in longitudinal functional reserve index (LFRIdiastolic/systolic).Results: Clinical characteristics between groups (liraglutide = 33 vs. glimepiride = 29) were well matched. At baseline left ventricle ejection fraction (53.7 vs. 53.6%) and global longitudinal strain (-15.3 vs. -16.5%) did not differ between groups. There were no significant differences in mitral flow velocities between groups. For the primary endpoint, there was no treatment change [95% confidence interval] for: LFRIdiastolic (-0.18 vs. -0.53 [-0.28, 2.59; p = 0.19]), or LFRIsystolic (-0.10 vs. -0.18 [-1.0, 1.7; p = 0.54]); for the secondary endpoints, there was a significant treatment change in respect of body weight (-3.7 vs. -0.2 kg [-5.5, -1.4; p = 0.001]), waist circumference (-3.1 vs. -0.8 cm [-4.2, -0.4; p = 0.019]), and heart rate (HR) (6.3 vs. -2.3 bpm [-3.0, 14.2; p = 0.003]), with no such treatment change in hemoglobin A1c levels (-11.0 vs. -9.2 mmol/mol [-7.0, 2.6; p = 0.37]), between groups. Conclusion: 18-week treatment of liraglutide compared with glimepiride did not improve LFRIdiastolic/systolic, but however increased HR. There was a significant treatment change in body weight reduction in favor for liraglutide treatment.

  • Modified Guide Walls for Incremental Increase of Spillway Capacity
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 40th IAHR World Congress. - : International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research. ; , s. 1978-1983
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents the results from a physical model study of a fixed crest ogee spillway with lateral inflow creating a contraction loss at the inlet reducing the effective spillway width. The model represents a scenario faced by some spillway structures in low head run-of-river hydropower schemes. The contraction caused at the corner of the spillway inlet is quantified for varying discharges and its influence on the spillway capacity is evaluated. To improve the capacity of the spillway, firstly the approach angle is altered. The spillway capacity is measured for multiple headwall angles, finding a relative increase of 6.2 % in discharge capacity for a 55° approach. Secondly, guide walls of varying designs in the direction of the lateral flow are introduced. The design of the modified guide wall seeks to smoothen the approach and reduces the ensuing flow separation, thus increasing the capacity of the spillway. The greatest improvement is found for an elliptic guide wall which increased the discharge capacity by 6.7 %. Ultimately, small structural changes can make significant improvements to spillway capacity.

  • Tvågradersmålet i sikte?
Stockholm i november 2007 Naturvårdsverket
