  • A fuzzy three-dimensional house of quality to integrate and coordinate departments’ activities in organizations
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: IEEE Access. - : IEEE. - 2169-3536.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study aims to introduce a method to integrate and coordinate departments’ activities to enhance the service quality of organizations using Quality Function Deployment (QFD). To this purpose, the classical two-dimensional House Of Quality (HOQ) matrix is changed to a three-dimensional form (3D-HOQ). The 3D-HOQ is applied to the marketing and Human Resources (HR) departments of a bank to determine customers’ and employees’ demands, respectively. The 3D-HOQ is also employed to provide a unique list of technical requirements to satisfy the identified demands. Obtaining a unique list of technical requirements with the cooperation of both departments reduces the inconsistency between departments, saves cost and time by preventing reworks and parallel works, and increases the organization’s efficiency. Moreover, 3D-HOQ is combined with the SERVQUAL technique and fuzzy theory to determine the weight of obtained technical requirements. The study is conducted in four main steps, (1) identifying the customers’ and employees’ demands, (2) identifying the technical requirements for simultaneous satisfaction of both customers’ and employees’ demands, (3) determining the relationships between the technical requirements and the identified demands, and (4) prioritizing technical requirements. Applying the 3D-HOQ resulted in identifying 30 customers’ demands, 30 employees’ demands, and 50 technical requirements. The study results show that "using new banking technologies" has the highest weight among the customers’ demands, and "job security" has been found to have the highest weight among employees’ demands. Moreover, "Intra-organizational processes automation" has been identified as the technical requirement with the highest weight.

  • Balancing assembly lines with industrial and collaborative robots : Current trends and future research directions
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Computers & industrial engineering. - : Elsevier. - 0360-8352 .- 1879-0550. ; 193
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Assembly-line balancing is a significant issue in production systems. Employing industrial robots as the main production resource was a milestone in developing assembly lines, and emerging Industry 4.0 led industries to build collaborative assembly lines by combining robots and human operator skills. Recently, the majority of research on assembly line balancing has contributed to addressing aspects of utilizing robots in assembly lines and how they can increase line performance. Various models and methods are developed, considering different objectives and performance indicators. Despite the increasing number of studies in this area, a thorough literature review is lacking in identifying gaps, shedding light on research directions, and facilitating future development. This study systematically reviews assembly-line balancing studies targeted at assembly lines with industrial and collaborative robots. Studies are classified based on their objectives and reviewed for their solution method, line layout, and other essential specifications. A descriptive analysis is provided to assist researchers and practitioners in linking different properties of assembly lines to the objectives and applied methodologies. The results show that most studies developed models and solution methods that focused on simultaneously optimizing more than one objective. The review reveals that minimizing the cycle time is the most popular objective, and meta-heuristic algorithms are the dominant solution approaches. It is also observed that balancing assembly lines with collaborative robots has received more attention in the last five years with the emergence of Industry 4.0. The review also highlights gaps in the related literature and provides promising insights for future research.

    • PurposeCustomers increasingly use food delivery applications (FDAs) to place orders. Despite the popularity of FDAs, limited research has investigated the drivers of the continuance intention to use FDAs. This study aims to uncover the drivers of the continuance intention to use FDAs by integrating the “technology continuance theory” (TCT) with perceived task-technology fit, perceived value and perceived food safety.Design/methodology/approachData were collected from 398 individuals in Thailand and evaluated using “partial least squares” (PLS) and “fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis” (fsQCA).FindingsThe PLS results supported the significance of all direct relationships, except the effects of perceived ease of use on attitude and perceived usefulness on continuance intention. Accordingly, perceived food safety positively moderated the impact of perceived ease of use on attitudes. The fsQCA uncovered seven solutions with various combinations of factors that predicted high continuance intention.Practical implicationsThis study enables food delivery apps to develop effective strategies for retaining users and sustaining financial performance.Originality/valueThis research contributes to the literature by investigating the factors underlying the continuous use of FDAs with a new PLS-fsQCA technique and applying TCT in a new technological context, FDAs and enriching it by adding three variables: perceived task-technology fit, perceived value and perceived food safety.

  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Electronic library. - : Emerald Group Publishing Limited. - 0264-0473 .- 1758-616X. ; 41:2/3, s. 286-307
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • PurposeGamification applications (apps) are gaining great attention in many contexts and have grown increasingly. Despite their significant role in many settings, prior research mainly focused on initial adoption, and there are limited studies on the post-adoption stage. This study aims to explore the factors influencing individuals' continuance intention to use gamified task manager apps, drawing on the technology continuance theory (TCT) by integrating enjoyment, habit and social influence. Design/methodology/approachData were obtained from 318 Malaysian who had prior experience with task management gamified apps and analysed with the partial least squares approach. FindingsAccording to the results, confirmation, perceived usefulness (PU) and enjoyment positively influence satisfaction. PU, enjoyment, satisfaction and social influence affect attitude, while the result failed to confirm the association between perceived ease of use and attitude. Furthermore, PU, attitude and habit are strong determinants of users' continuance intention. Moreover, continuance intention was not predicted by users' satisfaction and social influence. Practical implicationsThe findings provide directions for developers and marketers of gamified task manager apps. Besides the technological and functional benefits of applications, they should also consider social, hedonic and individual factors in the designing and marketing stages. Originality/valueThis study extends the literature by assessing the determinants of continuous intention to use gamified task manager apps; and extending the TCT in the context of gamification by incorporating three contextual factors, namely, perceived enjoyment, social influence and habit.

  • Determinants of followers' purchase intentions toward brands endorsed by social media influencers : Findings from PLS and fsQCA
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Journal of Consumer Behaviour. - : John Wiley & Sons. - 1472-0817 .- 1479-1838. ; 23:2, s. 888-914
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Given the rise of marketing through social media influencers (SMIs), this study aimed to investigate the influences of source credibility and content validity factors on followers' attitudes and intention to purchase brands endorsed by SMIs through brand engagement and brand expected value. The study assessed the moderating effect of product-influencer congruency. Data were collected from 429 individuals in Iran and were assessed using the "partial least squares" (PLS) and "fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis" (fsQCA) approaches. PLS results affirmed the significance of all direct relationships except the role of entertainment value on brand engagement and informativeness value on brand expected value. Product-influencer congruence positively moderated the effects of trustworthiness and expertise on brand expected value. fsQCA identified five solutions with various combinations of elements that lead to high purchase intention. The results of performing fsQCA revealed that three factors, namely attractiveness, entertainment value, and attitude, are necessary to achieve high purchase intention. fsQCA results challenged the PLS findings, indicating the importance of using an asymmetric approach in conjunction with PLS. Our study provides valuable insight for marketing influencers and practitioners on the importance of source credibility and content value factors in enhancing the effectiveness of SMI marketing activities and persuading customers to purchase endorsed brands.

  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Artificial intelligence (AI)-powered autonomous vehicles (AVs) are one of the most disruptive technologies with potentially wide-ranging social implications, including improvements in passenger/driver safety, environmental protection, and equity considerations. The current research extends the UTAUT2 model in the context of fully AVs (level 5 automation) to determine and rank determinants of intention to adopt AVs. Collected data from 378 respondents were analysed by a hybrid approach employing partial least squares (PLS) complemented by the Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference Systems (ANFIS) technique. According to the findings, five major determinants emerged: trust, hedonic motivation, social influence, compatibility, and effort expectancy. Furthermore, compatibility positively moderates the association between performance expectancy and intention to use AVs. The findings shed light on determinant factors, their level of importance, and the potential interplay between them in shaping individuals’ intention to adopt and use AVs. Furthermore, the current research provides valuable insights to carmakers, technology developers, and practitioners on determinants of AVs adoption, assisting them in devising effective AVs-related strategies.

  • Determinants of Intention to Use ChatGPT for Educational Purposes : Findings from PLS-SEM and fsQCA
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Human-Computer Interaction. - : Taylor & Francis. - 1044-7318 .- 1532-7590. ; , s. 1-20
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • ChatGPT can revolutionize education by enhancing student engagement and making learning more personalized. Drawing on UTAUT2, this study investigated determinants of intention to use ChatGPT for educational purposes. Data were gathered from 406 Malaysian students and analyzed using a hybrid approach including “partial least squares” (PLS) and “fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis” (fsQCA). PLS showed that performance expectancy, effort expectancy, hedonic motivation, and learning value significantly influence the intention to use ChatGPT. Furthermore, we found that personal innovativeness and information accuracy negatively moderate the associations between ChatGPT use and its determinants. While PLS demonstrated that social influence, facilitating conditions, and habit do not affect ChatGPT use, fsQCA revealed that all factors might affect the intention to use ChatGPT. fsQCA suggested that eight combinations of factors may lead to high ChatGPT use. The results hold various implications for ChatGPT developers, instructors, and universities and provide insights for accelerating ChatGPT adoption.

  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Although Industry 4.0 was believed to promote sustainable development, it has ignored or misunderstood many prevailing sustainability concerns, which led to the emergence of the Industry 5.0 agenda. While the desirable sustainability values of Industry 5.0 are widely acknowledged, the knowledge of how this agenda can deliver sustainable transformation is lacking. The present study addresses this knowledge gap, explaining how Industry 5.0 transformation should be managed to facilitate sustainable development. Therefore, this study strives to model the underlying mechanism for enabling such transformation. The study conducted a content-centric review of the literature and identified 11 actions and approaches that serve as enablers of Industry 5.0 transformation. The study further conducted the interpretive structural modeling and structured the enablers as an interpretive model explaining steps needed for enabling Industry 5.0. Finally, the study developed the strategy roadmap for enabling Industry 5.0 transformation and sustainable development. Results emphasized stakeholder salience, highlighting the enabling role of stakeholder integration and collaboration in Industry 5.0 transformation. Proactive governmental support is the most driving enabler of Industry 5.0, whereas eco-innovation and sustainable value network reformation are among the most complex and hard-to-develop enablers. Results offer several implications for policymakers and practitioners, explaining the functionality of each approach and strategy necessary for Industry 5.0 transformation. The roadmap determines the sequential relationships among these approaches and strategies and identifies their optimal development sequence for enabling Industry 5.0 transformation synergistically. Results further identify the codependences among the Industry 5.0 transition enablers and highlight their interactions and complementarities.

  • Blockchain technology as an enabler for sustainable business ecosystems : A comprehensive roadmap for socioenvironmental and economic sustainability
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Business strategy and development. - : John Wiley & Sons. - 2572-3170. ; 7:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Blockchain technology is a core technology expected to play a highly instrumental role in competing with socioenvironmental challenges. The literature hypothesizes various blockchain functions for building a sustainable business ecosystem. This study unifies these diverse perspectives into an interpretive strategy roadmap that provides a holistic overview of how blockchain should be leveraged to deliver sustainability functions optimally. The study first identified the sustainability functions of blockchain through a content-centric literature review. The study applied interpretive structural modeling (ISM) and drew on experts' opinions to model how and in which order blockchain delivers these sustainability functions. The study further drew on the ISM output and interpretive logic-knowledge base to develop the promised roadmap. Results revealed that blockchain promotes a decentralized decision system that facilitates automation and real-time information sharing (RIS) across supply chains. Blockchain introduces traceability and transparency into supply chain operations. These conditions offer monitoring of business operations and the development of trust across value-chain stakeholders. These driver functions lead to value chain optimization and circularity integration into business and supply chain operations. When these necessary functional conditions are met, businesses can further draw on blockchain to promote economic and environmental aspects of sustainability through more complex functions enabling resource efficiency, cost reduction, pollution prevention, and higher profit margins. The order in which businesses can leverage these functions would define blockchain sustainability performance. Each function is uniquely valuable to sustainability, and none of them can be overlooked.

  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Despite interest in opportunities that Industry 4.0 offers for Supply Chain Resilience (SCR), little is known about the underlying mechanisms for such contributions. The study develops a roadmap that explains how supply chains can capitalize on Industry 4.0 SCR functions. The study conducted a content-centric literature review and identified 16 functions through which Industry 4.0 enhances SCR. Results reveal that the Industry 4.0 SCR functions identified are highly interrelated, and supply chain members should align their digitalization strategies with the sequence in which Industry 4.0 delivers these functions. Industry 4.0 contribution to SCR first involves delivering data-centric functions such as supply chain automation, information and communication quality, process monitoring, and visibility. Industry 4.0 further allows supply chain partners to collaborate better on improving supply chain mapping, complexity management, and innovation capabilities. Through these functions and by increasing transparency, flexibility, and agility of supply chain operations, Industry 4.0 delivers more dependent but consequential resilience functions such as supply chain responsiveness, adaptive capability, and continuity management. The roadmap further explains how each pair of Industry 4.0 SCR functions mutually interact while contributing to the overall resilience of the supply chain. The study discusses possible implications and outlines important avenues for future research.

  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Journal of Cleaner Production. - : Elsevier BV. - 0959-6526 .- 1879-1786. ; 417
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Despite the hype surrounding Industry 5.0 and its importance for sustainability, the micro-mechanisms through which this agenda can lead to socio-environmental values are largely understudied. The present study strived to address this knowledge gap by developing a strategic roadmap that outlines how Industry 5.0 can boost sustainable manufacturing. The study first conducted a content-centric literature review and identified 12 functions through which Industry 5.0 can inclusively boost sustainable manufacturing. The study further developed a strategic roadmap that identified the complex contextual relationships among the functions and explained how they should be synergistically leveraged to maximize their contribution to sustainability. Results reveal that value network integration, sustainable technology governance, sustainable business model innovation, and sustainable skill development are the most driver and tangible implications of Industry 5.0 for sustainable manufacturing. Alternatively, renewable integration and manufacturing resilience are among the most dependent and hard-to-reach sustainable functions of Industry 5.0, and their materialization requires major strategic collaboration among stakeholders. The strategic roadmap outlines how Industry 5.0 stakeholders can leverage the technological and functional constituents of this agenda to promote sustainable manufacturing inclusively.

  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Technology in society. - : Elsevier BV. - 0160-791X .- 1879-3274. ; 74
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Although Intelligent Automation (IA) represents the future of business automation, the organizational imple-mentation and sustainability performance of this emerging technological innovation is vastly understudied. Understanding the implications of IA for sustainability is critical since leveraging these technologies shapes operations and policies that can promote sustainable digitalization and automation practices. We study how firms' technological, organizational, environmental, and human resource contexts impact IA implementation. The study further explains how IA may associate with the firm's triple bottom line while accounting for the moderating role of corporate social responsibility strategy. The study surveyed 207 multinational firms in 2022 and used partial least square-structural equation modeling to test the hypothesized relationships. Results showed that IA implementation is mainly determined by the characteristics of the firm's internal environment, such as absorptive capacity, employee socio-behavioral concerns, and social capital competency. IA may offer valuable opportunities for boosting the firm's economic and environmental sustainability performance. Nonetheless, IA is a double-edged sword for social sustainability, harming social values in implementing firms with informal corporate social sustainability strategies. Conversely, firms with formal corporate social sustainability strategy have a significantly higher opportunity to transform the value of IA into social sustainability performance. Findings are expected to assist managers and decision-makers with streamlining an impartial and sustainable transition of organizations toward automation.

    • This study aims to investigate the extent to which the contributions of blockchain technology to supply chain parameters influence blockchain adoption among SMEs. Drawing on contingency theory, the study investigates the moderating effect of market turbulence. The data were collected from 204 SMEs in Malaysia’s manufacturing sector and analysed using the partial least squares technique. The results showed that the intention of SMEs’ managers to adopt blockchain is influenced by the contributions of blockchain to supply chain transparency and agility. Supply chain transparency, alignment, adaptability, and agility are interrelated. Market turbulence moderates positively the association between agility and intention to adopt blockchain. This study extends the literature by decomposing the concept of relative advantages and investigating the influences of blockchain benefits on blockchain adoption. The moderating effect of market turbulence indicates that the influence of blockchain on agility is more important for SMEs operating in a turbulent environment than the SMEs in a stable market. The findings help the policymakers and blockchain vendors in developing effective plans and strategies to speed up the adoption of blockchain among SMEs. Furthermore, the results give confidence to the managers and owners of SMEs that blockchain can be a valuable competitive advantage source.

  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Information Technology and People. - : Emerald Group Publishing Limited. - 0959-3845 .- 1758-5813.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • PurposeThis study aims to explore and ranks the factors that might determine attitudes and intentions toward using autonomous vehicles (AVs).Design/methodology/approachThe “technology acceptance model” (TAM) was extended by assessing the moderating influences of personal-related factors. Data were collected from 378 Vietnamese and analysed using a combination of “partial least squares” and the “adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system” (ANFIS) technique.FindingsThe findings demonstrated the power of TAM in explaining the attitude and intention to use AVs. ANFIS enables ranking the importance of determinants and predicting the outcomes. Perceived ease of use and attitude were the most crucial drivers of attitude and intention to use AVs, respectively. Personal innovativeness negatively moderates the influence of perceived ease of use on attitude. Data privacy concerns moderate positively the impact of perceived usefulness on attitude. The moderating effect of price sensitivity was not supported.Practical implicationsThese findings provide insights for policymakers and automobile companies' managers, designers and marketers on driving factors in making decisions to adopt AVs.Originality/valueThe study extends the AVs literature by illustrating the importance of personal-related factors, ranking the determinants of attitude and intention, illustrating the inter-relationships among AVs adoption factors and predicting individuals' attitudes and behaviours towards using AVs.

  • Determinants of trust and purchase intention in social commerce : Perceived price fairness and trust disposition as moderators
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Electronic Commerce Research and Applications. - : Elsevier. - 1567-4223 .- 1873-7846. ; 64
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The study investigates the determinants of trust in sellers and products and purchase intention in the social commerce (s-commerce) context by considering the moderating effects of trust disposition and perceived price fairness. The data were collected from 416 individuals who have followed at least one seller on Instagram and analysed using the Partial Least Squares (PLS) approach. The findings revealed that review quantity, review quality, perceived symmetric product information, and responsiveness positively influence trust in seller. The direct influence of review quality on trust in products was confirmed. Trust disposition negatively moderates the impacts of review quality on trust in sellers and responsiveness on trust in products. Furthermore, perceived price fairness positively moderates the influence of trust in sellers and products on purchase intention. The findings extend the literature on s-commerce in several ways. The findings enable s-commerce sellers to formulate effective marketing strategies and boost purchase intention.

  • The impact of supply chain integration on reverse supply chain adoption
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Kybernetes. - : Emerald Group Publishing Limited. - 0368-492X .- 1758-7883. ; 52:11, s. 5730-5751
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • PurposeThe aim of this study is to investigate the impact of integration capabilities on reverse supply chain (RSC) adoption and, consequently, RSCs' effectiveness. Thus, supply chain (SC) integration capabilities and their types in relation to internal, supplier and customer integration capabilities are investigated.Design/methodology/approachIn this paper a quantitative survey was conducted with Malaysian manufacturers with a certified the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14001 environmental management system. The entire population was utilized through census sampling; 150 useable survey responses were received. The partial least squares technique was used for the data analysis.FindingsThe results indicate that internal integration improves external integration. In addition, supplier and customer integration have a positive direct effect on the adoption of RSC activities. Though internal integration has no significant direct effect on the adoption of RSC activities, it has an indirect impact through both supplier integrative capabilities and customer integrative capabilities.Practical implicationsThe findings of this study suggest that the managers of manufacturers whose internal integrative capabilities are the base and whose SC integrative capabilities and external integrative capabilities are reinforcing SC integrative capabilities should adopt RSC activities.Originality/valueThe paper offers in-depth insight into this issue and has shed light on the ambiguities in the literature regarding the role of SC integration in RSC adoption.

  • Integrated design of a sustainable waste management system with co-modal transportation network : A robust bi-level decision support system
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Journal of Cleaner Production. - : Elsevier. - 0959-6526 .- 1879-1786. ; 449
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Efficient waste management practices play a critical role in addressing the acute challenges of environmental protection, public health and resource conservation. A well-designed system guarantees that waste is efficiently collected, treated and disposed while minimizing negative impacts on ecosystems and human well-being. This work presents a robust bi-level decision support system to establish a sustainable waste management system using a co -modal transportation network to treat municipal solid waste timely and efficiently. Consequently, two integrated multi-objective mathematical models are developed to formulate the problem. Configuring the municipal solid waste network in the first level of the suggested decision support system, the transportation network is designed in the second level taking into account non-identical modes. The objectives are to minimize total cost and total emission in both levels, while maximization of total job creation is also addressed in the first level. Robust optimization method and weighted goal programming method are then utilized to accommodate the developed decision support system against uncertainty and multi-objectiveness, respectively. To validate the efficiency of these methods, they are assessed against possibilistic linear programming technique and Lp-metric approach with the help of simple additive weighting (SAW) method, respectively. Eventually, several numerical examples are generated based on the benchmarks given in the literature, which are then tackled using CPLEX solve to appraise the applicability and complexity of the developed methodology. The findings reveal the efficacy of the decision support system in terms of finding solutions in less than 448 s on average. Finally, sensitivity analyses are performed to draw out useful practical implications and decision aids.

  • Determinants of environmental, financial, and social sustainable performance of manufacturing SMEs in Malaysia
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Sustainable Production and Consumption. - : Elsevier. - 2352-5509. ; 35, s. 129-140
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Discovering the determinants of firm sustainable performance from the Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) perspectives is essential. However, few studies have empirically examined all three environmental, financial, and social pillars of sustainable performance into a single research framework in the context of emerging economies like Malaysia. Drawing on the resource-based view and institutional theory, this study identified the determinants of environment, financial, and social sustainable performance of manufacturing SMEs. Data was collected from 209 Malaysian manufacturing firms. A hybrid approach of structural equation modeling (SEM) - artificial neural network (ANN) was used to assess the hypotheses and predict the level of their importance toward sustainable performance. Results showed that green entrepreneurial orientation, green innovation, leadership commitment, stakeholder pressure, and market orientation positively and significantly influenced social performance. Environmental performance was predicted by green entrepreneurial orientation, green innovation, leadership commitment, and market orientation. Green entrepreneurial orientation and market orientation demonstrated a positive influence on financial performance. Results of ANN showed that leadership commitment is the most significant factor influencing environmental and social performance while green entrepreneurial orientation is the first ranked factor predicting financial performance. These findings extend the knowledge by shedding light on the determinants of SMEs' sustainable performance. The study enables SMEs to take proper actions in response to sustainability development. Besides, the findings assist practitioners and policymakers in setting effective plans by giving more attention to leadership commitment and green entrepreneurial orientation as the most significant determinants.
