  • Robust estimation of bacterial cell count from optical density
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Communications Biology. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 2399-3642. ; 3:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Optical density (OD) is widely used to estimate the density of cells in liquid culture, but cannot be compared between instruments without a standardized calibration protocol and is challenging to relate to actual cell count. We address this with an interlaboratory study comparing three simple, low-cost, and highly accessible OD calibration protocols across 244 laboratories, applied to eight strains of constitutive GFP-expressing E. coli. Based on our results, we recommend calibrating OD to estimated cell count using serial dilution of silica microspheres, which produces highly precise calibration (95.5% of residuals <1.2-fold), is easily assessed for quality control, also assesses instrument effective linear range, and can be combined with fluorescence calibration to obtain units of Molecules of Equivalent Fluorescein (MEFL) per cell, allowing direct comparison and data fusion with flow cytometry measurements: in our study, fluorescence per cell measurements showed only a 1.07-fold mean difference between plate reader and flow cytometry data.

  • Fabrication and bonding of In bumps on Micro-LED with 8 μ m pixel pitch
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: ENGINEERING RESEARCH EXPRESS. - 2631-8695. ; 6:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Indium (In) is currently used to fabricate metal bumps on micro-light-emitting diode (Micro-LED) chips due to its excellent physical properties. However, as Micro-LED pixel size and pitch decrease, achieving high-quality In bumps on densely packed Micro-LED chips often presents more challenges. This paper describes the process of fabricating In bumps on micro-LEDs using thermal evaporation, highlighting an issue where In tends to grow laterally within the photoresist pattern, ultimately blocking the pattern and resulting in undersized and poorly dense In bumps on the Micro-LED chip. To address this issue, we conducted numerous experiments to study the height variation of In bumps within a range of photoresist aperture sizes (3 mu m -7 mu m) under two different resist thickness conditions (3.8 mu m and 4.8 mu m). The results showed that the resist thickness had a certain effect on the height of In bumps on the Micro-LED chip electrodes. Moreover, we found that, with the photoresist pattern size increasing under constant resist thickness conditions, the height and quality of the bumps significantly improved. Based on this finding, we rationalized the adjustment of the photoresist pattern size within a limited emission platform range to compensate for the height difference of In bumps caused by different resist thicknesses between the cathode and anode regions. Consequently, well-shaped and dense In bumps with a maximum height of up to 4.4 mu m were fabricated on 8 mu m pitch Micro-LED chips. Afterwards, we bonded the Micro-LED chip with indium bumps to the CMOS chip, and we found that we could successfully control the CMOS chip to drive the Micro-LED chip to display specific characters through the Flexible Printed Circuit (FPC). This work is of significant importance for the fabrication of In bumps on Micro-LED chips with pitches below 10 mu m and subsequent bonding processes.

  • 2023
  • Ingår i: 2023 IEEE/CVF International conference on computer vision workshops (ICCVW). - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc.. - 9798350307443 - 9798350307450 ; , s. 1788-1810
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Visual Object Tracking Segmentation VOTS2023 challenge is the eleventh annual tracker benchmarking activity of the VOT initiative. This challenge is the first to merge short-term and long-term as well as single-target and multiple-target tracking with segmentation masks as the only target location specification. A new dataset was created; the ground truth has been withheld to prevent overfitting. New performance measures and evaluation protocols have been created along with a new toolkit and an evaluation server. Results of the presented 47 trackers indicate that modern tracking frameworks are well-suited to deal with convergence of short-term and long-term tracking and that multiple and single target tracking can be considered a single problem. A leaderboard, with participating trackers details, the source code, the datasets, and the evaluation kit are publicly available at the challenge website1

  • Non-lab and semi-lab algorithms for screening undiagnosed diabetes : A cross-sectional study
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: EBioMedicine. - : ELSEVIER SCIENCE BV. - 2352-3964. ; 35, s. 307-316
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: The terrifying undiagnosed rate and high prevalence of diabetes have become a public emergency. A high efficiency and cost-effective early recognition method is urgently needed. We aimed to generate innovative, user-friendly nomograms that can be applied for diabetes screening in different ethnic groups in China using the non-lab or noninvasive semi-lab data. Methods: This multicenter, multi-ethnic, population-based, cross-sectional study was conducted in eight sites in China by enrolling subjects aged 20-70. Sociodemographic and anthropometric characteristics were collected. Blood and urine samples were obtained 2 h following a standard 75 g glucose solution. In the final analysis, 10,794 participants were included and randomized into model development (n - 8096) and model validation (n = 2698) group with a ratio of 3:1. Nomograms were developed by the stepwise binary logistic regression. The nomograms were validated internally by a bootstrap sampling method in the model development set and externally in the model validation set. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) was used to assess the screening performance of the nomograms. Decision curve analysis was applied to calculate the net benefit of the screening model. Results: The overall prevalence of undiagnosed diabetes was 9.8% (1059/10794) according to ADA criteria. The non-lab model revealed that gender, age, body mass index, waist circumference, hypertension, ethnicities, vegetable daily consumption and family history of diabetes were independent risk factors for diabetes. By adding 2 h post meal glycosuria qualitative to the non-lab model, the semi-lab model showed an improved Akaike information criterion (AIC: 4506 to 3580). The AUC of the semi-lab model was statistically larger than the non-lab model (0.868 vs 0.763, P < 0.001). The optimal cutoff probability in semi-lab and non-lab nomograms were 0.088 and 0.098, respectively. The sensitivity and specificity were 76.3% and 81.6%, respectively in semi-lab nomogram, and 72.1% and 673% in non-lab nomogram at the optimal cut off point. The decision curve analysis also revealed a bigger decrease of avoidable OGTT test (52 per 100 subjects) in the semi-lab model compared to the non-lab model (36 per 100 subjects) and the existed New Chinese Diabetes Risk Score (NCDRS, 35 per 100 subjects). Conclusion: The non-lab and semi-lab nomograms appear to be reliable tools for diabetes screening, especially in developing countries. However, the semi-lab model outperformed the non-lab model and NCDRS prediction systems and might be worth being adopted as decision support in diabetes screening in China.

  • Revealing microstructural degradation mechanism induced by interdiffusion between Amdry365 coating and IN792 superalloy
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Materials and Design. - : ELSEVIER SCI LTD. - 1873-4197 .- 0264-1275. ; 241
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Metallic coatings are widely employed to improve the oxidation resistance of superalloys. However, the interdiffusion between the metallic coatings and the superalloys leads to microstructural degradation in both. Some of the underlying degradation mechanisms are still elusive, e.g., the γ′ (Ni3Al) phase depletion in superalloys, where a large amount of γ′ precipitates are dissolved in the γ matrix even though the incoming Al from coatings indeed increases the Al content. Here, we investigated the interdiffusion behavior between the Amdry365 coating and the IN792 superalloy at 1100 °C, using multiple microscopic techniques and thermodynamics calculations. Our results showed an excellent agreement between experiments and thermodynamics simulations, indicating the dominant role of Al on the initial diffusion-induced phase transitions. We proposed the Al-Cr interference effect to account for the pile-up behavior of Cr and the reduced Al content near the coating/superalloy interface. The local phase equilibrium calculations revealed that the γ′ depletion in the superalloy is primarily attributed to the loss of γ′-forming elements, such as Ta and Ti. Our findings opened up an avenue for studies on the superalloy/coating interdiffusion, contributing to reducing this damaging impact.

  • Boosting the performance of eco-friendly quantum dots-based photoelectrochemical cells via effective surface passivation
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Nano Energy. - : Elsevier. - 2211-2855 .- 2211-3282. ; 76
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Photoelectrochemical (PEC) cells fabricated using environment-friendly colloidal quantum dots (QDs) are promising optoelectronic devices for future practical solar-to-hydrogen conversion. However, the majority of current eco-friendly QDs-based PEC cells exhibited low efficiency mainly due to the charge trapping at QDs’ surface states and interfacial recombination processes in devices. Here, eco-friendly AgInS2 (AIS) QDs-based PEC cells passivated with variable ZnS layers were fabricated and the effects of ZnS surface passivation on corresponding device performance were investigated. It is demonstrated that optimizing the thickness of the ZnS passivation layers can largely suppress the charge trapping/recombination and enhance the electron injection efficiency in the PEC devices, leading to a saturated photocurrent density of ∼5.7 mA/cm2 under standard AM 1.5 G solar illumination. Increasing the thickness of ZnS passivation layers can further inhibit the photocorrosion and give rise to higher device stability. These results indicate that ZnS surface passivation is a facile and efficient technique to boost the performance of eco-friendly QDs-based PEC cells.

  • Emerging contaminants: A One Health perspective
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Innovation. - 2666-6758. ; 5
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Environmental pollution is escalating due to rapid global development that often prioritizes human needs over planetary health. Despite global efforts to mitigate legacy pollutants, the continuous introduction of new substances remains a major threat to both people and the planet. In response, global initiatives are focusing on risk assessment and regulation of emerging contaminants, as demonstrated by the ongoing efforts to establish the UN's Intergovernmental Science-Policy Panel on Chemicals, Waste, and Pollution Prevention. This review identifies the sources and impacts of emerging contaminants on planetary health, emphasizing the importance of adopting a One Health approach. Strategies for monitoring and addressing these pollutants are discussed, underscoring the need for robust and socially equitable environmental policies at both regional and international levels. Urgent actions are needed to transition toward sustainable pollution management practices to safeguard our planet for future generations.

  • Environmentally friendly Mn-alloyed core/shell quantum dots for high-efficiency photoelectrochemical cells
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Journal of Materials Chemistry A. - : Royal Society of Chemistry. - 2050-7488 .- 2050-7496. ; 8:21, s. 10736-10741
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Colloidal quantum dot (QD)-based photoelectrochemical (PEC) cells are cost-effective devices showing remarkable solar-to-fuel conversion efficiency. However, the extensive use of highly toxic elements (e.g. Pb and Cd) in QDs' synthesis and device fabrication is still a major challenge towards their practical development. Herein, we fabricate a solar-driven PEC cell based on environmentally friendly Mn-alloyed CuInS2 (MnCIS)/ZnS core/shell QDs, showing more favorable band alignment, efficient charge transfer, reduced charge recombination and lower charge transfer resistance with respect to the control device fabricated using unalloyed CuInS2 (CIS)/ZnS core/shell QDs. An unprecedented photocurrent density of ∼5.7 mA cm−2 with excellent stability was obtained for the as-fabricated MnCIS/ZnS core/shell QD-based PEC device when operated under standard one sun irradiation (AM 1.5G, 100 mW cm−2). These results indicate that the transition metal-alloyed environmentally friendly core/shell QDs are promising for next-generation solar technologies.

  • 1.6 Million transactions replicate distributed PV market slowdown by COVID-19 lockdown
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Applied Energy. - : ELSEVIER SCI LTD. - 0306-2619 .- 1872-9118. ; 283
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Solar PV has seen a spectacular market development in recent years and has become a cost competitive source of electricity in many parts of the world. Yet, prospective observations show that the coronavirus pandemic could impact renewable energy projects, especially in the distributed market. Tracking and attributing the economic footprint of COVID-19 lockdowns in the photovoltaic sector poses a significant research challenge. Based on millions of financial transaction records and 44 thousand photovoltaic installation records, we tracked the spatiotemporal sale network of the distributed photovoltaic market and explored the extent of market slowdown. We found that a two-month lockdown duration can be assessed as a high-risk threshold value. When the lockdown duration exceeds the threshold value, the monthly value-added loss reaches 67.7%, and emission reduction capacity is cut by 64.2% over the whole year. We show that risks of a slowdown in PV deployment due to COVID19 lockdowns can be mitigated by comprehensive incentive strategies for the distributed PV market amid market uncertainties.

  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Journal of The American Ceramic Society. - : Wiley. - 0002-7820 .- 1551-2916. ; 98:4, s. 1056-1059
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Highly transparent silica glass was prepared from mesoporous silica SBA-15 powders at low temperature using Spark Plasma Sintering. It was found that the combined effect of pressure and temperature resulted in collapse of porous structure of SBA-15 and transformation to transparent glass. A sinterability enhancement mechanism involving generation of incremental surface area from pore collapse during sintering process was proposed to interpret the fully densification at low temperature.

  • Designing a broad-spectrum integrative approach for cancer prevention and treatment
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Seminars in Cancer Biology. - : Academic Press. - 1044-579X .- 1096-3650. ; 35, s. S276-S304
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Targeted therapies and the consequent adoption of "personalized" oncology have achieved notable successes in some cancers; however, significant problems remain with this approach. Many targeted therapies are highly toxic, costs are extremely high, and most patients experience relapse after a few disease-free months. Relapses arise from genetic heterogeneity in tumors, which harbor therapy-resistant immortalized cells that have adopted alternate and compensatory pathways (i.e., pathways that are not reliant upon the same mechanisms as those which have been targeted). To address these limitations, an international task force of 180 scientists was assembled to explore the concept of a low-toxicity "broadspectrum" therapeutic approach that could simultaneously target many key pathways and mechanisms. Using cancer hallmark phenotypes and the tumor microenvironment to account for the various aspects of relevant cancer biology, interdisciplinary teams reviewed each hallmark area and nominated a wide range of high-priority targets (74 in total) that could be modified to improve patient outcomes. For these targets, corresponding low-toxicity therapeutic approaches were then suggested, many of which were phytochemicals. Proposed actions on each target and all of the approaches were further reviewed for known effects on other hallmark areas and the tumor microenvironment Potential contrary or procarcinogenic effects were found for 3.9% of the relationships between targets and hallmarks, and mixed evidence of complementary and contrary relationships was found for 7.1%. Approximately 67% of the relationships revealed potentially complementary effects, and the remainder had no known relationship. Among the approaches, 1.1% had contrary, 2.8% had mixed and 62.1% had complementary relationships. These results suggest that a broad-spectrum approach should be feasible from a safety standpoint. This novel approach has potential to be relatively inexpensive, it should help us address stages and types of cancer that lack conventional treatment, and it may reduce relapse risks. A proposed agenda for future research is offered. (C) 2015 The Authors. Published by Elsevier Ltd.

  • Heterogeneous consecutive reaction kinetics of direct oxidation of H2 to H2O2: Effect and regulation of confined mass transfer
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Chemical Engineering Journal. - : Elsevier. - 1385-8947 .- 1873-3212. ; 455
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Porous catalysts in heterogeneous reactions have played an important role in the modern chemical industry, but it is still challenging to quantitatively describe mass transfer and surface reaction behaviors of reactants in nano-confined space. Direct synthesis of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is considered as an attractive alternative to anthraquinone oxidation process, while the confined mass transfer of H2O2 in porous catalysts limits the reactivity. In this work, taking the consecutive reaction of H2O2 synthesis as an example, a quantitative method in modeling the effects of confined mass transfer on the reactivity was studied. More specifically, calorimetry was developed to characterize the confined structures of porous carbon experimentally, the linear nonequilibrium thermodynamics and the statistical mechanics method were further combined. Then, the heterogeneous consecutive reaction kinetics and the Thiele modulus influenced by confined mass transfer were modeled. Consequently, regulation strategies were proposed with the help of theoretical models. The optimized catalyst with biological skeleton carbon support and 0.5 wt% palladium loading shows an excellent catalytic performance. Lastly, for the mesoscience in heterogeneous reaction, the resistance was explored as a quantitative descriptor to compromise in the competition between mass transfer and surface reaction. The mesoscale structures were considered as the dynamic spatiotemporal distribution of substance concentrations, and the resistance minimization multi-scale (RMMS) model was proposed.

  • FRACTAL-BASED MODEL FOR EVALUATING THE FILTRATION EFFICIENCY OF THE NON-WOVEN FIBROUS COMPOSITES
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Fractals. - : World Scientific Pub Co Pte Ltd. - 0218-348X. ; 30:03
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The classic single-fiber efficiency model based on ordered packing of fiber composites has been widely used to predict filtration efficiency of fibrous filters for 40 years. However, the simplified single-fiber model often overestimates the filtration efficiency as most fibrous composite filters are composed of randomly distributed fibers. The numerical methods have been successfully employed to re-construct the realistic fiber composites, but simulation of the multi-mechanism filtration process in the complex fibrous architecture is computationally expensive and case-based and derivation of a compact versatile model for broad applications remain challenging. In this work, a fractal-based homogenization model is developed to predict the filtration efficiency of the fibrous composites, by considering the spatially randomly distributed fibers and the quasi-random distribution of pore size. A comparison with available experimental results collected from references shows that the proposed model is of high accuracy in predicting the filtration of submicron aerosol particles. The calculated results show that the Kuwabara hydrodynamic factor is sensitive to the pore fractal dimension. The filtration efficiency for different particle diameters can be divided into three stages, which increase as the proportion of fibers warped by the fluid decreases. In addition, the total efficiency decreases with the increasing pore fractal dimension in a nonlinear trend. For the given fractal dimension, the filtration efficiency increases with the increase of pore size ratio, indicating that the more uniform the pore size distribution, the higher the efficiency.

  • Untargeted screening of unknown xenobiotics and potential toxins in plasma of poisoned patients using high-resolution mass spectrometry: Generation of xenobiotic fingerprint using background subtraction
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Analytica Chimica Acta. - : ELSEVIER SCIENCE BV. - 0003-2670 .- 1873-4324. ; 944, s. 37-43
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A novel analytical workflow was developed and applied for the detection and identification of unknown xenobiotics in biological samples. High-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS)-based data-independent MSE acquisition was employed to record full scan MS and fragment spectral datasets of test and control samples. Then, an untargeted data-mining technique, background subtraction, was utilized to find xenobiotics present only in test samples. Structural elucidation of the detected xenobiotics was accomplished by database search, spectral interpretation, and/or comparison with reference standards. Application of the workflow to analysis of unknown xenobiotics in plasma samples collected from four poisoned patients led to generation of xenobiotic profiles, which were regarded as xenobiotic fingerprints of the individual samples. Among 19 xenobiotics detected, 11 xenobiotics existed in a majority of the patients plasma samples, thus were considered as potential toxins. The follow-up database search led to the tentative identification of azithromycin (X5), alpha-chaconine (X9) and penfluridol (X12). The identity of X12 was further confirmed with its reference standard. In addition, one xenobiotic component (Y5) was tentatively identified as a penfluridol metabolite. The remaining unidentified xenobiotics listed in the xenobiotic fingerprints can be further characterized or identified in retrospective analyses after their spectral data and/or reference compounds are available. This HRMS-based workflow may have broad applications in the detection and identification of unknown xenobiotics in individual biological samples, such as forensic and toxicological analysis and sport enhancement drug screening. • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Nanocomposite solders are regarded as one of the most promising interconnect materials for the high-density electronic packaging due to their high mechanical strength and fine microstructure. However, the developments of nanocomposite solders have been limited by the inadequate compatibility between nanoparticles and solder matrix with respect to density, hardness, coefficient of thermal expansion, and surface activity. The compatibility issue will lead to a huge loss of nanoparticles from the solder matrix after the reflow soldering process. The thermal fatigue resistance of solder joint will also become degraded. Therefore, aiming to solve this problem, a novel nanocomposite solder consisting of Bi2Te3 semiconductor nanoparticles and Sn-3.0Ag-0.5Cu (SAC305) solder is presented. The effect of nanoparticles on the viscosity of solder paste and the void content of solder bump was first studied. Then, a series of analysis on the composition and microstructure of the solder bump were completed using transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry, scanning electron microscopy, and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The survival rate of nanoparticles in the solder bump after reflow soldering process reaches as high as 80%. The refined microstructure was observed from the cross section of the nanocomposite solders. The shear test showed that the average mechanical strength of SAC305 solder after the addition of Bi2Te3 nanoparticles was higher. Meanwhile, no thermal fatigue resistance degradation was detected in the nanocomposite solder after 1000 thermal cycles in the range of -40 degrees C to 115 degrees C.

  • Interface engineering of NiS@MoS2 core-shell microspheres as an efficient catalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction in both acidic and alkaline medium
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Journal of Alloys and Compounds. - : ELSEVIER SCIENCE SA. - 0925-8388 .- 1873-4669. ; 853
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Electrochemical splitting of water is one of the most reliable and effective ways for the sustainable production of pure hydrogen on a large scale, while the core of this technology lies in the development of highly active non-noble-metal-based electrocatalysts to lower the large dynamic overpotentials of electrode materials. Here, an interface engineering strategy is demonstrated to construct an efficient and stable catalyst based on NiS@MoS2 core-shell hierarchical microspheres for the hydrogen evolution reactions (HER). The ultrathin MoS2 nanosheets in-situ grow on the surface of NiS hierarchical micro-sized spheres constructed by porous nanoplates, endowing the composites with rich interfaces, well-exposed electroactive edges, high structural porosity and fast transport channels. These advantages are favorable for the improvement of catalytic sites and the transport of catalysis-relevant species. More importantly, the intimate contact between MoS2 nanosheets and NiS nanoplates synergistically favors the chemical sorption of hydrogen intermediates, thereby reducing the reaction barrier and accelerating the HER catalytic process. As a result, the optimized NiS@MoS2 catalyst manifests impressive HER activity and durability, with a low overpotential of 208 mV in 0.5 M H2SO4 and 146 mV in 1.0 M KOH at 10 mA cm(-2), respectively. This work not only provides an effective way to construct core-shell hierarchical microspheres but also a multiscale strategy to regulate the electronic structure of heterostructured materials for energy-related applications. • MicroRNA-20a-5p promotes colorectal cancer invasion and metastasis by downregulating Smad4
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Oncotarget. - : IMPACT JOURNALS LLC. - 1949-2553. ; 7:29, s. 45199-45213
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Tumor metastasis is one of the leading causes of poor prognosis for colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. Loss of Smad4 contributes to aggression process in many human cancers. However, the underlying precise mechanism of aberrant Smad4 expression in CRC development is still little known. Results: miR-20a-5p negatively regulated Smad4 by directly targeting its 3UTR in human colorectal cancer cells. miR-20a-5p not only promoted CRC cells aggression capacity in vitro and liver metastasis in vivo, but also promoted the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition process by downregulating Smad4 expression. In addition, tissue microarray analysis obtained from 544 CRC patients clinical characters showed that miR-20a-5p was upregulated in human CRC tissues, especially in the tissues with metastasis. High level of miR-20a-5p predicted poor prognosis in CRC patients. Methods: Five miRNA target prediction programs were applied to identify potential miRNA(s) that target(s) Smad4 in CRC. Luciferase reporter assay and transfection technique were used to validate the correlation between miR-20a-5p and Smad4 in CRC. Wound healing, transwell and tumorigenesis assays were used to explore the function of miR-20a-5p and Smad4 in CRC progression in vitro and in vivo. The association between miR-20a-5p expression and the prognosis of CRC patients was evaluated by Kaplan-Meier analysis and multivariate cox proportional hazard analyses based on tissue microarray data. Conclusions: miR-20a-5p, as an onco-miRNA, promoted the invasion and metastasis ability by suppressing Smad4 expression in CRC cells, and high miR-20a-5p predicted poor prognosis for CRC patients, providing a novel and promising therapeutic target in human colorectal cancer.

    • The development of solution-processed inorganic metal halide perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) is currently hindered by low emission efficiency due to morphological defects and severe non-radiative recombination in all-inorganic perovskite emitters. Herein, bright PeLEDs are demonstrated by synergetic morphology control over cesium lead bromide (CsPbBr3) perovskite films with the combination of two additives. The phenethylammonium bromide additive enables the formation of mixed-dimensional CsPbBr3 perovskites featuring the reduced grain size (amp;lt;15 nm) and efficient energy funneling, while the dielectric polyethyleneglycol additive promotes the formation of highly compact and pinhole-free perovskite films with defect passivation at grain boundaries. Consequently, green PeLEDs achieve a current efficiency of 37.14 cd A(-1) and an external quantum efficiency of 13.14% with the maximum brightness up to 45 990 cd m(-2) and high color purity. Furthermore, this method can be effectively extended to realize flexible PeLEDs on plastic substrates with a high efficiency of 31.0 cd A(-1).

  • Cyclic Response of Additive Manufactured 316L Stainless Steel : The Role of Cell Structures
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Scripta Materialia. - : Elsevier. - 1359-6462 .- 1872-8456. ; 205
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report the effect of cell structures on the fatigue behavior of additively manufactured (AM) 316L stainless steel (316LSS). Compared with the cell-free samples, the fatigue process of fully cellular samples only consists of steady and overload stages, without an initial softening stage. Moreover, the fully cellular sample possesses higher strength, lower cyclic softening rate and longer lifetime. Microscopic analyses show no difference in grain orientations, dimensions, and shapes. However, the fully cellular samples show planar dislocation structures, whereas the cell-free samples display wavy dislocation structures. The existence of cell structures promotes the activation of planar slip, delays strain localization, and ultimately enhances the fatigue performance of AM 316LSS.

  • New insights into the anisotropic ductility of additively manufactured Inconel 718
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: International journal of plasticity. - : PERGAMON-ELSEVIER SCIENCE LTD. - 0749-6419 .- 1879-2154. ; 169
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Anisotropic ductility in additively manufactured (AM) alloys, namely better ductility along the building direction (BD) has been extensively studied and traditionally attributed to the crystallographic texture. However, recent studies have shown significant ductility anisotropy in weakly or non-textured AM alloys, indicating that other factors may also play critical roles. To explore this, AM Inconel 718 with weak crystallographic texture was selected as the model material, and the in-situ high-energy X-ray diffraction tests together with multiscale microstructural characterization techniques were performed to explore the deformation micromechanisms. The results of this study, for the first time, revealed that the better ductility in the vertical specimen (loading parallel to BD) was partially due to the negative stress triaxiality factor (TF) of the {220} grains during plastic deformation, which results in the shrinkage or even healing of the microvoids. Furthermore, the & delta;-phase alignment in conjunction with grain boundary orientation were also proved to have a pronounced impact on the anisotropic ductility of AM alloys. On the other hand, though in the overall weak-textured microstructure, the proportion of 101 grains were marginally over other grains. Thus, the positive effect of {220} grains on ductility was stronger than the negative effect of {200} and {311} grains, contributing to the excellent failure elongation exceeding 12% for both samples. The findings of this study shed new light on the mechanisms underlying the anisotropic ductility of AM alloys and provide insight into strategies for enhancing their performance.

  • Ingår i: Journal of Materials Science & Technology. - Amsterdam, Netherlands : Elsevier. - 1005-0302. ; 111, s. 268-278
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We have investigated the low cycle fatigue (LCF) properties and the extent of strengthening in a dense additively manufactured stainless steel containing different volume fractions of cell structures but having all other microstructure characteristics the same. The samples were produced by laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF), and the concentration of cell structures was varied systematically by varying the annealing treatments. Load-controlled fatigue experiments performed on samples with a high fraction of cell structures reveal an up to 23 times increase in fatigue life compared to an essentially cell-free sample of the same grain configuration. Multiscale electron microscopy characterizations reveal that the cell structures serve as the soft barriers to the dislocation propagation and the partials are the main carrier for cyclic loading. The cell structures, stabilized by the segregated atoms and misorientation between the adjacent cells, are retained during the entire plastic deformation, hence, can continuously interact with dislocations, promote the formation of nanotwins, and provide massive 3D network obstacles to the dislocation motion. The compositional micro-segregation caused by the cellular solidification features serves as another non-negligible strengthening mechanism to dislocation motion. Specifically, the cell structures with a high density of dislocation debris also appear to act as dislocation nucleation sites, very much like coherent twin boundaries. This work indicates the potential of additive manufacturing to design energy absorbent alloys with high performance by tailoring the microstructure through the printing process.

  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • BACKGROUND: Anti-malarial drug artesunate (ART), a semi-synthetic derivative of artemisnin, has immunosuppressive effects on several autoimmune diseases, including Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), Rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and Colitis. However, molecular mechanisms of ART, especially on follicular helper T cells (Tfh), central players in SLE pathology, are far from clear.PURPOSE: The object for this work is to investigate the therapeutic effect of ART on lupus-prone MRL/lpr mice and its regulatory function on Tfh cells.STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: MRL/lpr mice were used to explore therapeutic effects of ART on lupus-prone MRL/lpr mice and its regulatory functions on Tfh cells. Then, experiments of renal function were accomplished using the biochemical kits. Effects of ART on histopathology of kidneys, inflammatory factors and autoantibodies were examined using H&E staining, ELISA and real-time PCR. Flow cytometry and western blot analysis were used to examine effects of ART on Tfh differentiation and Jak2-Stat3 signaling pathway.RESULTS: Upon oral administration, ART significantly prolonged the survival of MRL/lpr mice, ameliorated the lupus nephritis symptoms, decreased the levels of anti-dsDNA antibodies deposited in the kidney, and the levels of pathogenic cytokines (IL-6, IFN-γ and IL-21). After ART treatment, T-cell compartment in the spleen of MRL/lpr mice was restored in terms of reduction in the number of Tfh cells and in the maintenance of the ratio of Tfr to follicular regulatory T cells (Tfh). In addition, ART has significantly inhibited the phosphorylation levels of Jak2 and Stat3 in the MRL/lpr mice.CONCLUSION: ART showed therapeutic effects on lupus-prone MRL/lpr mice by inhibiting the differentiation of Tfh cells as well as altering the activation status of Jak2-Stat3 signaling cascade. • 2013
  • Ingår i: Nature Genetics. - : Nature Publishing Group. - 1061-4036 .- 1546-1718. ; 45:6, s. 697-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • To identify susceptibility genes for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), we conducted a genome-wide association study (GWAS) in 506 individuals with sporadic ALS and 1,859 controls of Han Chinese ancestry. Ninety top SNPs suggested by the current GWAS and 6 SNPs identified by previous GWAS were analyzed in an independent cohort of 706 individuals with ALS and 1,777 controls of Han Chinese ancestry. We discovered two new susceptibility loci for ALS at 1q32 (CAMK1G, rs6703183, P-combined = 2.92 x 10(-8), odds ratio (OR) = 1.31) and 22p11 (CABIN1 and SUSD2, rs8141797, P-combined = 2.35 x 10(-9), OR = 1.52). These two loci explain 12.48% of the overall variance in disease risk in the Han Chinese population. We found no association evidence for the previously reported loci in the Han Chinese population, suggesting genetic heterogeneity of disease susceptibility for ALS between ancestry groups. Our study identifies two new susceptibility loci and suggests new pathogenic mechanisms of ALS.

  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Nature Communications. - : NATURE PUBLISHING GROUP. - 2041-1723. ; 10, s. 1-12
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Mouth ulcers are the most common ulcerative condition and encompass several clinical diagnoses, including recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS). Despite previous evidence for heritability, it is not clear which specific genetic loci are implicated in RAS. In this genome-wide association study (n = 461,106) heritability is estimated at 8.2% (95% CI: 6.4%, 9.9%). This study finds 97 variants which alter the odds of developing non-specific mouth ulcers and replicate these in an independent cohort (n = 355,744) (lead variant after meta-analysis: rs76830965, near IL12A, OR 0.72 (95% CI: 0.71, 0.73); P = 4.4e-483). Additional effect estimates from three independent cohorts with more specific phenotyping and specific study characteristics support many of these findings. In silico functional analyses provide evidence for a role of T cell regulation in the aetiology of mouth ulcers. These results provide novel insight into the pathogenesis of a common, important condition.

  • 2019
  • Ingår i: IEEE Access. - : IEEE-INST ELECTRICAL ELECTRONICS ENGINEERS INC. - 2169-3536. ; 7, s. 174425-174437
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In recent years, an increasing number of university students are found to be at high risk of depression. Through a large scale depression screening, this paper finds that around 6.5% of the university postgraduate students in China experience depression. We then investigate whether the gait patterns of these individuals have already changed as depression is suggested to associate with gait abnormality. Significant differences are found in several spatiotemporal, kinematic and postural gait parameters such as walking speed, stride length, head movement, vertical head posture, arm swing, and body sway, between the depressed and non-depressed groups. Applying these features to classifiers with different machine learning algorithms, we examine whether natural gait analysis may serve as a convenient and objective tool to assist in depression recognition. The results show that when using a random forest classifier, the two groups can be classified automatically with a maximum accuracy of 91.58%. Furthermore, a reasonable accuracy can already be achieved by using parameters from the upper body alone, indicating that upper body postures and movements can effectively contribute to depression analysis.

  • Ingår i: Nature Cancer. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 2662-1347. ; 2:4, s. 414-428
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Brain metastases are refractory to therapies that control systemic disease in patients with human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-positive breast cancer and the brain microenvironment contributes to this therapy resistance. Nutrient availability can vary across tissues, therefore metabolic adaptations required for brain metastatic breast cancer growth may introduce liabilities that can be exploited for therapy. Here we assessed how metabolism differs between breast tumors in brain versus extracranial sites and found that fatty acid synthesis is elevated in breast tumors growing in the brain. We determine that this phenotype is an adaptation to decreased lipid availability in the brain relative to other tissues, resulting in site-specific dependency on fatty acid synthesis for breast tumors growing at this site. Genetic or pharmacological inhibition of fatty acid synthase reduces human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-positive breast tumor growth in the brain, demonstrating that differences in nutrient availability across metastatic sites can result in targetable metabolic dependencies.

  • Ingår i: Nature Medicine. - : NATURE PUBLISHING GROUP. - 1078-8956 .- 1546-170X. ; 25:6, s. 911-919
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • It is estimated that 350 million individuals worldwide suffer from rare diseases, which are predominantly caused by mutation in a single gene(1). The current molecular diagnostic rate is estimated at 50%, with whole-exome sequencing (WES) among the most successful approaches(2-5). For patients in whom WES is uninformative, RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) has shown diagnostic utility in specific tissues and diseases(6-8). This includes muscle biopsies from patients with undiagnosed rare muscle disorders(6,9), and cultured fibroblasts from patients with mitochondrial disorders(7). However, for many individuals, biopsies are not performed for clinical care, and tissues are difficult to access. We sought to assess the utility of RNA-seq from blood as a diagnostic tool for rare diseases of different pathophysiologies. We generated whole-blood RNA-seq from 94 individuals with undiagnosed rare diseases spanning 16 diverse disease categories. We developed a robust approach to compare data from these individuals with large sets of RNA-seq data for controls (n = 1,594 unrelated controls and n = 49 family members) and demonstrated the impacts of expression, splicing, gene and variant filtering strategies on disease gene identification. Across our cohort, we observed that RNA-seq yields a 7.5% diagnostic rate, and an additional 16.7% with improved candidate gene resolution.

  • Ingår i: Science of the Total Environment. - : Elsevier. - 0048-9697 .- 1879-1026. ; 795
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Sick building symptoms (SBS) are defined as non-specific symptoms related to indoor exposures, including mucosal symptoms in eye, nose, throat, and skin, and general symptoms as headache and tiredness. Indoor microbial composition is associated with SBS symptoms, but the impact of microbial functional genes and potential metabolic products has not been characterized. We conducted a shotgun microbial metagenomic sequencing for vacuum dust collected in urban and rural schools in Shanxi province, China. SBS symptoms in students were surveyed, and microbial taxa and functional pathways related to the symptoms were identified using a multilevel linear regression model. SBS symptoms were common in students, and the prevalence of ocular and throat symptoms, headache, and tiredness was higher in urban than in rural areas (p < 0.05). A significant higher microbial alpha-diversity was found in rural areas than in urban areas (Chao1, p = 0.001; ACE, p = 0.002). Also, significant variation in microbial taxonomic and functional composition (beta-diversity) was observed between urban and rural areas (p < 0.005). Five potential risk Actinobacteria species were associated with SBS symptoms (p < 0.01); students in the classrooms with a higher abundance of an unclassified Geodermatophilaceae, Geodermatophilus, Fridmanniella luteola, Microlunatus phosphovorus and Mycetocola reported more nasal and throat symptoms and tiredness. Students with a higher abundance of an unclassified flavobacteriaceae reported fewer throat symptoms and tiredness. The abundance of microbial metabolic pathways related to the synthesis of B vitamins (biotin and folate), gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), and peptidoglycan and were protectively (negatively) associated with SBS symptoms (FDR < 0.05). The result is consistent with human microbiota studies, which reported that these microbial products are extensively involved in immunological processes and anti-inflammatory effects. This is the first study to report the functional potential of the indoor microbiome and the occurrence of SBS, providing new insights into the potential etiologic mechanisms in chronic inflammatory diseases.

  • Ingår i: Drug And Alcohol Dependence. - : Elsevier BV. - 0376-8716 .- 1879-0046. ; 229
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective: This study aimed to investigate the association between alcohol consumption and the prevalence of stroke in Chinese adults aged 40 years and over.Method: We conducted a cross-sectional analysis among 113,573 Chinese adults aged >= 40 years in the China National Stroke Prevention Project (2014-2015) to examine correlations of alcohol consumption with the prevalence of stroke. Logistic regression models were used to calculate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs), controlling for various confounders, e.g., gender, age, smoking, physical activity and other health conditions. Results: Within the study population, a total of 12,753 stroke survivors were identified. The prevalence of light to moderate and of heavy alcohol consumption was 10.1% and 5.7% respectively. The multivariate logistic regression results show that light to moderate alcohol consumption was associated with reduced risk of stroke of all types [0.91 (95%CI: 0.85-0.97)] and of ischemic stroke [0.90 (0.84-0.97)]. No association was found between alcohol consumption and hemorrhagic stroke. Compared with abstainers, the adjusted ORs of all stroke were 0.83 (0.75-0.92) for those who drank 11-20 years, and no association was found between 1 and 10 years or over 20 years of drinking and risk of stroke. Conclusions: These results indicate that light to moderate alcohol consumption may be protective against all and ischemic stroke, and heavy drinking was not significantly associated with risk of all stroke in China. No association between alcohol consumption and hemorrhagic stroke was found.

    • CDMA2000, WCDMA and WiMAX are three widely used 3G technologies. Since they share the same goal, which is to provide broader coverage and higher throughput in 3G networks, an impartial comparison of their performance is indispensable. However, they are based on different design principles and methodologies, which make the comparison challenging. This paper presents a comparative study of these technologies, with focus on system spectral efficiency and stability in 3G networks. Specifically, the paper presents a framework for the comparison based on the common set of configurations adopted by these technologies, which include channel models, system parameters and key algorithms. Through extensive simulations, the system spectral efficiency and stability of CDMA2000 1x EV-DO Rev.A, WCDMA HSDPA/HSUPA and Mobile WiMAX are compared. It is found that while WiMAX can provide highest throughput, the two CDMA-based technologies achieve higher system spectral efficiency, especially on the downlink. Regarding system stability, it is observed that CDMA2000 1x EV-DO Rev.A can operate under higher interference levels than WCDMA HSDPA/HSUPA and Mobile WiMAX. In addition, the comparison on system spectral efficiency between CDMA2000, WCDMA and WiMAX is also conducted when relevant enhanced technologies, i.e., MIMO and interference cancelation, are adopted. We believe that our work will serve as a cornerstone for a fair comparison between the various technologies for prospective 3G networks.

    • A review of several typical enhanced heat transfer tubes such as corrugated tube, transversally corrugated tube, twisted tube and spiral fluted tube, is carried out. Compared with smooth wall tube, these enhanced tubes have higher heat exchange capacity and better anti - fouling ability. Besides, the heat transfer efficiency can be promoted to a higher level if the objects that can disturb flow are put in the tubes. However, higher heat transfer efficiency of such enhanced heat transfer tubes can only be achieved under certain conditions. Therefore, new heat transfer tubes that could avoid the formation of mobile dead-zone should be designed to meet the broad applications or facilitate better heat transfer effect.

  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We performed systematic theoretical studies on small anionic water/deuterated water clusters W/D-n=2-6(-) at both density functional theory (B3LYP) and wavefunction theory (MP2) levels. The focus of the study is to examine the convergence of calculated infrared (IR) spectra with respect to the increasing number of diffuse functions. It is found that at the MP2 level for larger clusters (n = 4-6), only one extra diffuse function is needed to obtain the converged relative IR intensities, while two or three more sets of extra diffuse functions are needed for smaller clusters. Such behaviour is strongly associated with the convergence of the electronic structure of corresponding clusters at the MP2 level. It is striking to observe that at the B3LYP level, the calculated relative IR intensities for all the clusters under investigations are diverse and show no trend of convergence upon increasing the number of diffuse functions. Moreover, the increasing contribution from the extra diffuse functions to the dynamic IR dipole moment indicates that the B3LYP electronic structure also fails to converge. These results manifest that MP2 is a preferential theoretical method, as compared to the widely used B3LYP, for the IR intensity of dipole bounded electron systems.

  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Although many phenotypic traits of chickens have been well documented, the genetic patterns of gene expression levels in chickens remain to be determined. In the present study, we crossed two chicken breeds, White Leghorn (WL) and Cornish (Cor), which have been selected for egg and meat production, respectively, for a few hundred years. We evaluated transcriptome abundance in the brain, muscle, and liver from the day-old progenies of pure-bred WL and Cor, and the hybrids of these two breeds, by RNA-Seq in order to determine the inheritance patterns of gene expression. Comparison among expression levels in the different groups revealed that most of the genes showed conserved expression patterns in all three examined tissues and that brain had the highest number of conserved genes, which indicates that conserved genes are predominantly important compared to others. On the basis of allelic expression analysis, in addition to the conserved genes, we identified the extensive presence of additive, dominant (Cor dominant and WL dominant), over-dominant, and under-dominant genes in all three tissues in hybrids. Our study is the first to provide an overview of inheritance patterns of the transcriptome in layers and broilers, and we also provide insights into the genetics of chickens at the gene expression level.

    • The transition between transparent and opaque of as-sintered zeolite samples is employed to study the temperature distribution of non-conducting samples during spark plasma sintering (SPS) process in this paper. The results show that temperature gradients exist in both radial and axial directions, which provide direct evidence of temperature distribution in the SPS process. The sample prepared at 1325 degrees C is transparent in the center and opaque in the edge, which suggests that the temperature of the center is higher than the edge and the temperature differential is about 26 degrees C by the thermal analysis model based on the experimental data in ANSYS code. The axial temperature gradient is also present in the as-sintered sample obtained at 1315 degrees C. The transparent part of the upper surface is larger than the lower surface, which illustrates that the temperature of the upper surface was higher than the lower surface and the difference is about 5 degrees C.

    • The electrochemical reduction of nitrogen, as a sustainable alternative to the known Haber-Bosch process, possesses promising application prospects in the development of renewable energy storage systems. However, the yield of NH3 and Faraday efficiency are usually very low owing to the loss of active electrocatalysts and competitive hydrogen evolution reactions. Herein, uniform NiS@MoS2 core-shell microspheres are controllably prepared as a potential catalyst for an ambient electrocatalytic N-2 reduction reaction. The NiS@MoS2 microspheres possess highly active intrinsic, sufficient accessible active sites, high structural porosity, and convenient transport channels, consequently boosting the transmission of electrons and mass. Additionally, the interfacial interaction between NiS and MoS2 facilitates electron transfer, which further improves the catalytic activity by optimizing the free energies of reaction intermediates. As a result, the titled NiS@MoS2 shows excellent electrochemical activity and selectivity, capable of achieving a relatively high NH3 yield of 9.66 mu g h(-1) mg(cat)(-1) at -0.3 V (vs. the reversible hydrogen electrode, RHE) and a high FE of 14.8% at -0.1 V vs. RHE in 0.1 M Na2SO4. The work demonstrated here may open a new avenue for the rational design and synthesis of catalysts for the electrochemical synthesis of ammonia.

    • PURPOSE: Available evidence indicates that dipyridamole enhances the anti-thrombotic effects of aspirin for the prevention of secondary strokes. Aspirin is a well-known non-steroid anti-inflammatory drug. This anti-inflammatory property has turned aspirin into a potential drug for inflammation-related cancers such as colorectal cancer (CRC). Here, we aimed to explore whether the anti-cancer effect of aspirin against CRC could be improved by combined administration with dipyridamole.METHODS: Population-based clinical data analysis was conducted to assess a possible therapeutic effect of combined dipyridamole and aspirin treatment in inhibiting CRC compared with either monotherapy. This therapeutic effect was further verified in different CRC mouse models, i.e. an orthotopic xenograft mouse model, an AOM/DSS mouse model, an Apc min/+ mouse model and a patient derived xenograft (PDX) mouse model. The in vitro effects of the drugs on CRC cells were tested using CCK8 and flow cytometry assays. RNA-Seq, Western blotting, qRT-PCR and flow cytometry were used to identify the underlying molecular mechanisms. RESULTS: We found that dipyridamole combined with aspirin had a better inhibitory effect on CRC than either monotherapy alone. The enhanced anti-cancer effect of the combined use of dipyridamole with aspirin was found to rely on the induction of an overwhelmed endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and subsequent pro-apoptotic unfolded protein response (UPR), which was different from the anti-platelet effect.CONCLUSIONS: Our data indicate that the anti-cancer effect of aspirin against CRC may be enhanced by combined administration with dipyridamole. In case further clinical studies confirm our findings, these may be repurposed as adjuvant agents.

    • The development of high-efficiency, robust, and available electrode materials for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) is critical for clean and sustainable energy system but remains challenging. Herein, a unique yolk-shell structure of Fe2O3 nanotube@hollow Co9S8 nanocage@C is rationally prepared. In a prearranged sequence, the fabrication of Fe2O3 nanotubes is followed by coating of zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-67) layer, chemical etching of ZIF-67 by thioacetamide, and eventual annealing treatment. Benefiting from the hollow structures of Fe2O3 nanotubes and Co9S8 nanocages, the conductivity of carbon coating and the synergy effects between different components, the titled sample possesses abundant accessible active sites, favorable electron transfer rate, and exceptional reaction kinetics in the electrocatalysis. As a result, excellent electrocatalytic activity for alkaline OER is achieved, which delivers a low overpotential of 205 mV at the current density of 10 mA cm(-2) along with the Tafel slope of 55 mV dec(-1). Moreover, this material exhibits excellent high-rate capability and excellent cycle life when employed as anode material of LIBs. This work provides a novel approach for the design and the construction of multifunctional electrode materials for energy conversion and storage.

    • Mixed transition metal oxides (MTMOs) are deemed as promising anode materials for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) because of the high theoretical capacity and low cost. However, the low electrical conductivity, agglomeration effects, and huge volume variation during discharging/charging still seriously restrict the actual applications of MTMOs as anode materials. Herein, a novel core-shell structure of CoSnO3@carbon-caged NiCo2O4 nanobox (CNC) is rationally designed. It starts from the preparation of CoSnO3@ZIF-67 core-shell nanocubes, followed by chemical etching/anion exchange, dopamine coating and carbonization at high temperature in sequence. It is shown that the CNC achieves high activities from the applied MTMOs components, excellent relief of volume variation from the unique double hollow structure, improved conductivity and inhabited aggregations from the uniform-coated outmost carbon shell, and effective ion/electron transfer rates from the synergetic effects. As a result, the CNC exhibits a discharge capacity of 1548 mA h g(-1) at the first cycle and a retention capacity of 992 mA h g(-1) after 100 cycles at 0.1 A g(-1). In addition, it exhibits a high reversible capacity of about 670 mA h g(-1) after 500 cycles at a current density of 1 A g(-1). The improved Li+ storage performances of CNC demonstrates that such rational design of double hollow structure could be a novel strategy to apply MTMOs as anode materials of LIBs.

  • Synergistically modulating electronic structure of NiS2 hierarchical architectures by phosphorus doping and sulfur-vacancies defect engineering enables efficient electrocatalytic water splitting
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Chemical Engineering Journal. - : ELSEVIER SCIENCE SA. - 1385-8947 .- 1873-3212. ; 420
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The synergistic achievement of heteroatom doping, defect engineering and appropriate structural design is efficient to adjust and boost the catalytic performance of catalysts yet challenging. Herein, phosphorus (P)-doped NiS2 hierarchical architectures with sulfur vacancies are synthesized via a Prussian-blue-analogue-sacrificed strategy followed by a phosphidation process. By modulation of P doping and sulfur vacancies, the optimal catalyst manifests outstanding electrocatalytic activities, affording low overpotentials of 73 mV at 10 mA cm-2 for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), and 255 mV at 20 mA cm-2 for oxygen evolution reaction (OER), respectively. Density functional theory calculations certify that the P dopant not only serves as the new active sites, but also activates the electrochemical activity of neighboring Ni and S sites. Moreover, the synergistic effect of P-doping and sulfur vacancies further improve electrochemical activities of HER and OER by optimizing the adsorption free energy of hydrogen (Delta GH*) and oxygen-containing intermediates (OH*, O* and OOH*), respectively. This finding provides a directive strategy to achieve efficient non-noble metal catalysts for energy conversion and storage.

  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • mHealth data provision focuses on providing health services to patients via mobile devices and presence technologies. It has great influence to the healthcare business today, especially in the developing countries. However, the mHealth presence might be sensitive; and it brings potential privacy issues. For controlling what presence information can be given to which watcher, and when in mHealth presence service, XML Configuration Access Protocol (XCAP) is introduced. Nevertheless, it is not enough if only XCAP is applied. It just controls the direct privacy leakage; indirect flow might still leak the privacy information. Thus, presence authorization policy and privacy filter, which are components of XCAP, are improved based on k-anonymity for stopping indirect privacy leakage.

    • In the cloud computing era, service provider cloud and context service cloud store all your personal context data. This is a positive aspect for value-added context-aware service cloud as it makes that context information collection are easier than was the case previously. However, this computing environment does add a series of threats in relation to privacy protection. Whoever receives the context information is able to deduce the status of the owners and, generally owners are not happy to share this information. In this paper, we propose a privacy preserved framework which can be utilized by value-added context-aware service cloud. Context data and related services access privileges are determined by context-aware role-based access control (CRAC) extended from role-based access control (RAC). Privacy preserved context service protocol (PPCS) is designed to protect user privacy from exposed context information. Additionally, user network and information diffusion is combined to evaluate the privacy protection effect.

  • Epigenetic–smoking interaction reveals histologically heterogeneous effects of TRIM27 DNA methylation on overall survival among early-stage NSCLC patients
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Molecular Oncology. - : Wiley. - 1574-7891 .- 1878-0261. ; 14:11, s. 2759-2774
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Tripartite motif containing 27 (TRIM27) is highly expressed in lung cancer, including non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Here, we profiled DNA methylation of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) and lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC) tumours from 613 early-stage NSCLC patients and evaluated associations between CpG methylation of TRIM27 and overall survival. Significant CpG probes were confirmed in 617 samples from The Cancer Genome Atlas. The methylation of the CpG probe cg05293407TRIM27 was significantly associated with overall survival in patients with LUSC (HR = 1.65, 95% CI: 1.30–2.09, P = 4.52 × 10−5), but not in patients with LUAD (HR = 1.08, 95% CI: 0.87–1.33, P = 0.493). As incidence of LUSC is associated with higher smoking intensity compared to LUAD, we investigated whether smoking intensity impacted on the prognostic effect of cg05293407TRIM27 methylation in NSCLC. LUSC patients had a higher average pack-year of smoking (37.49LUAD vs 54.79LUSC, P = 1.03 × 10−19) and included a higher proportion of current smokers than LUAD patients (28.24%LUAD vs 34.09%LUSC, P = 0.037). cg05293407TRIM27 was significantly associated with overall survival only in NSCLC patients with medium–high pack-year of smoking (HR = 1.58, 95% CI: 1.26–1.96, P = 5.25 × 10−5). We conclude that cg05293407TRIM27 methylation is a potential predictor of LUSC prognosis, and smoking intensity may impact on its prognostic value across the various types of NSCLC.

  • Influence of dehulling pretreatment on physicochemical properties of Gleditsia sinensis Lam. gum
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Food Hydrocolloids. - : Elsevier BV. - 0268-005X. ; 25:5, s. 1337-1343
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The seeds of Gleditsia sinensis Lam., widespread in China, are an important source of galactomannans. G. sinensis gum was extracted from whole seeds using baking, boiling water and acid dehulling pretreatment, respectively. The physicochemical properties of the three isolated G. sinensis gums were studied to evaluate three pretreatment methods. The results illustrated that the properties of G. sinensis gum were significantly influenced by dulling method (p < 0.05) including the yield, M/G ratio, viscosity, chemical composition and molecular weight. Power-law model (sigma = k.gamma(n)) was applied to the rheological measurements, which indicated that solutions of Gb, Gw and Ga gum behaved as pseudoplastic fluids at the concentration of 0.5% (w/v). The gum obtained by acid pretreatment (Ga) had the lowest yield of 20-24% (w/w). However Ga showed a pronounced shear-thinning behavior and particularly higher viscosity compared with the gums extracted by baking pretreatment (Gb) and boiling water dehulling method (Gw). The mannose to galactose ratios (M/G ratio) for Gb, Gw and Ga were found to be 4.5, 4.4 and 6.9, respectively. The highest molecular weight of 3.31 x 10(6) Da was observed for the galactomannans of Gb. (C) 2010 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

  • Critical Role of Carbonized Cellulose in the Evolution of Highly Porous Biocarbon : Seeing the Structural and Compositional Changes of Spent Mushroom Substrate by Deconvoluted Thermogravimetric Analysis
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 0888-5885 .- 1520-5045. ; 59:52, s. 22541-22548
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Structural optimization of activated carbon (AC) mainly relies on experience, which depends on the intrinsic structure of biochar, processing conditions, and the interplay of both parties. A fundamental understanding of the pore structure evolution related to the intrinsic structure and composition remains a challenge. In this work, spent mushroom substrate, a rapidly growing byproduct of the mushroom cultivation industry, is used as model biomass to prepare AC under CO2 activation. The structure and composition of the AC products with different activation durations were systematically analyzed with several characterization techniques including N2 adsorption–desorption, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and Raman spectroscopy. A multipeak separation method is developed that enables quantitative analysis of carbonized lignin and carbonized cellulose. A peak area ratio parameter is proposed to describe the retention of cellulose. It is revealed that higher retention of carbonized cellulose corresponds to a larger Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area, demonstrating the dominant role of cellulose in the pore structure development process. This work not only provides a qualitative correlation between cellulose and rich porous structure but also offers a new quantitative tool to understand the structure–composition relationship during the pore evolution process.
