  • Handling climate change education at universities : an overview
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Environmental Sciences Europe. - : Springer Nature. - 2190-4707 .- 2190-4715. ; 33:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Climate change is a problem which is global in nature, and whose effects go across a wide range of disciplines. It is therefore important that this theme is taken into account as part of universities´ teaching and research programs. Methods: A three-tiered approach was used, consisting of a bibliometric analysis, an online survey and a set of case studies, which allow a profile to be built, as to how a sample of universities from 45 countries handle climate change as part of their teaching programs. Results: This paper reports on a study which aimed at identifying the extent to which matters related to climate change are addressed within the teaching and research practices at universities, with a focus on the training needs of teaching staff. It consists of a bibliometric analysis, combined with an online worldwide survey aimed at ascertaining the degree of involvement from universities in reducing their own carbon footprint, and the ways they offer training provisions on the topic. This is complemented by a set of 12 case studies from universities round the world, illustrating current trends on how universities handle climate change. Apart from reporting on the outcomes of the study, the paper highlights what some universities are doing to handle climate issues, and discusses the implications of the research. Conclusions: The paper lists some items via which universities may better educate and train their students on how to handle the many challenges posed by climate change.

  • Harmonizing lipidomics : NIST interlaboratory comparison exercise for lipidomics using SRM 1950-Metabolites in Frozen Human Plasma
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Journal of Lipid Research. - 0022-2275 .- 1539-7262. ; 58:12, s. 2275-2288
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • As the lipidomics field continues to advance, self-evaluation within the community is critical. Here, we performed an interlaboratory comparison exercise for lipidomics using Standard Reference Material (SRM) 1950-Metabolites in Frozen Human Plasma, a commercially available reference material. The interlaboratory study comprised 31 diverse laboratories, with each laboratory using a different lipidomics workflow. A total of 1,527 unique lipids were measured across all laboratories and consensus location estimates and associated uncertainties were determined for 339 of these lipids measured at the sum composition level by five or more participating laboratories. These evaluated lipids detected in SRM 1950 serve as community-wide benchmarks for intra-and interlaboratory quality control and method validation. These analyses were performed using nonstandardized laboratory-independent workflows. The consensus locations were also compared with a previous examination of SRM 1950 by the LIPID MAPS consortium.jlr While the central theme of the interlaboratory study was to provide values to help harmonize lipids, lipid mediators, and precursor measurements across the community, it was also initiated to stimulate a discussion regarding areas in need of improvement.

  • Quasi-resonant Energy-transfer In Collisions - Na2(a(1)sigma(u)(+))+k(4s)
  • 1994
  • Ingår i: Zeitschrift für Physik D Atoms, Molecules and Clusters. - 0178-7683. ; 31:1-2, s. 55-59
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Cross sections for electron energy transfer from the initial rotational state J' of the two lowest vibrational levels upsilon' = 0 and upsilon' = 1 of excited dimers Na2(A) to potassium atoms as described by Na2(A1Sigma(u)+, upsilon'J') + K(4S) --> Na2 (X1Sigma(g)+, upsilon''J'')+K(4P)+DeltaE have been examined by laser-induced fluorescence. A strong increase of the cross section by as much as an order of magnitude has been observed for those dimer upsilon'J'-levels for which the dipole transitions are close to resonance of the 4S-4P transitions in the atom (DeltaE < 4 cm-1). The absolute cross sections for energy transfer have been calculated by the Rabitz approximation of first-order perturbation theory. In the case of closest energy resonance (DeltaE = 0.9 cm-1) the cross section is Q = 7.8 x 10(-13) cm2.

  • Ionization In Collisions Between Excited Sodium Dimers and Atoms
  • 1994
  • Ingår i: Chemical Physics Letters. - : Elsevier BV. - 0009-2614. ; 228:4-5, s. 346-350
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Associative ionizing molecule-atom collisions Na-2(A(1) Sigma(u)(+)) + Na(3p) --> Na-3(+) + e have been observed at simultaneous excitation of dimers and atoms by means of two lasers. Measurements of the relevant ionization current show that the cross section of molecule-atom ionizing collisions exceeds by an order of magnitude the cross section of the well-known atom-atom associative ionization Na(3p) + Na(3p) --> Na-2(+) + e.
