- The current report presents some results from a study on the prediction of necking failure in ductile metal sheets. In particular methods for creating Forming Limit Curves (FLCs) are discussed in the present report. Three groups of methods are treated: Experimental methods, Theoretical/analytical methods, and the Finite Element Method (FEM). The various methods are applied to two different materials: An aluminum alloy and a high strength steel. These materials do both exhibit a distinct necking behavior before fracture, and they do both exhibit only a small strain rate dependence. As can be expected, the resulting FLCs from the various experimental, theoretical, and numerical methods show a substantial scatter. The reasons for these deviating results are analyzed, and some conclusions are drawn regarding the applicability of the different methods.

- Strain rate dependency of the sheet material is known to have a delaying effect on theformation of necks in the material. This phenomenon is especially strong in highly ductile steel alloys. Thestrain rate effect is rarely considered in commercial simulations of forming processes. However, if thepurpose of the simulation is to predict strain localization and necking, the strain rate effect has to beconsidered. In the current paper a simple inverse approach is suggested for the determination of thematerial’s strain rate dependency. The method assumes that the FLD0, the limit strain at plane strain, isknown from some experiment. The material’s strain rate dependency is then determined from simulations ofa plane strain test in a trial-and-error process. As a faster alternative to performing full FE simulations, theuse of a simple M-K model, consisting of two finite elements, is suggested. Three different functionsdescribing the strain rate hardening effect have been evaluated. The strain rate parameter determined bymeans of the simplified M-K model has been used in full FE simulations of press forming operations. TheFE model is shown to be capable of predicting necking strains in an accurate way.

- In the present paper some results from an ongoing study on the prediction of necking and fracture in connection to sheet metal forming are presented. The materials used in this study do all show a distinct necking behavior before fracture. In fact, the formation of an incipient neck is here used to define the limit strains. Three groups of methods for defining limit strains are used in this study. These are: experimental methods, theoretical/analytical methods, and Finite Element methods. The various methods are briefly described in the report. Unfortunately, there is a considerable scatter in results between the various groups of methods, and also within the separate groups. These discrepancies are analyzed, and explanations for them are given where possible

- In the current paper various methods for Forming Limit Curve (FLC)evaluation are presented and discussed. The capabilities of modern optical systems for strain measurement are demonstrated. A method for limit strain evaluation, based on the onset of instability, is described in detail. The method can be applied for the evaluation of experimental strains, as well as of strains from Finite Element (FE) simulations. Three different approaches have been applied for the determination of FLCs for a DP600 steel. The method used for limit strain evaluation is shown to have a considerable influence on the level of the resulting FLC. Also results from FE-simulations of the same tests are presented. Theimportance of always questioning how a certain FLC has been evaluated is emphasized.

- Background/Objectives Obesity is the main risk factor for obstructive sleep apnoea, commonly occurring in females who are overweight after menopause. We aimed to study the effect of a palaeolithic diet on sleep apnoea in females with overweight after menopause from the population. Methods Seventy healthy, non-smoking females with a mean age of 60 years and a mean BMI of 33 kg/m(2) were randomised to a palaeolithic diet or to a control low-fat diet according to Nordic Nutritional Recommendations, for 2 years. The apnoea-hypopnoea index was measured and daytime sleepiness was estimated during the intervention. Results The mean apnoea-hypopnoea index at baseline was 11.6 (95% CI 8.6-14.5). The mean weight loss was 7.2 kg (95% CI 5.3-9.2 kg) in the palaeolithic diet group and 3.9 kg in the control group (95% CI 1.9-5.9 kg); p < 0.021 for the group difference. The reduction in weight corresponded to a reduction in the apnoea-hypopnoea index in the palaeolithic diet group (r = 0.38, p = 0.034) but not in the control group (r = 0.08, p = 0.69). The apnoea-hypopnoea index was reduced in the palaeolithic diet group when the weight was reduced by more than 8 kg. Daytime sleepiness according to the Epworth Sleepiness Scale score and the Karolinska Sleepiness Scale score was unaffected by dietary group allocation. Conclusions A substantial decrease in body weight of 8 kg was needed to achieve a reduction in sleep apnoea in this small trial of women who are overweight after menopause. The palaeolithic diet was more effective for weight reduction than a control low-fat diet and the reduction in sleep apnoea was related to the degree of weight decrement within this diet group.

The development of Swedish commercial banking, from establishment to consolidation: A presentation of a new database, 1866-1938

- This paper presents the long-run development of Swedish commercialbanking. It does so through data newly compiled into a database onaggregate and bank-level between 1866 and 1938. The database containsvariables such as lending, deposits, capital, expenses, holding of bondsand stocks, loan losses, profits, and dividends. The data is used to studysuch issues as market concentration, profitability, andefficiency/productivity. The paper shows that markets for lending anddeposits skyrocketed from 1880, which made commercial banks theleading financial institution in Sweden. The commercial banks then lostpart of their dominant position from about 1918, as the banks sufferedlarge losses and many reconstructions during the crises of 1921 and1932. The second half of the period saw a sharp increase in marketconcentration, with larger banks acquiring many small- and mediumsized competitors. We conclude that Swedish commercial banking duringthe period was essentially one of two distinct halves, with the first beingcompetitive and expansionary and the second distinguished byconcentration and contraction.

- This article concerns the corporate responses to the economic integration process from 1973 to 2008 in two small, open European countries, Denmark and Sweden. It focuses on strategic relations regarding the integration process and analyses the changing diversification patterns and internationalisation levels. The hypothesis from the economic integration literature indicates that we could expect a high degree of core business focus combined with a high degree of internationalisation concurrently with the economic integration process. The Danish case confirmed this prediction in a clear and substantial way, while the Swedish diversification pattern was marked by the continuous importance of diversification in the period from 1973 to 1993. This confirms the findings of Whittington and Mayer, who investigated the development of the largest British, French and German manufacturing enterprises. But the result also indicates that diversification perhaps proved to be less important after 1993 when the process of 'Europeanisation' dynamics was succeeded by the globalisation processes including the fast growing economies in South East Asia.

- Försäkringsbolaget Pensionsgaranti, ömsesidigt (FPG) bildades 1960 för att garantera de svenska industritjänstemannapensionerna inom ITP-avtalet. FPG har således bidragit till att stabilisera det tjänstepensionssystem som utvecklats under de sista 50 åren. Tack vare det garantisystem som grundlades genom FPG:s verksamhet blev det även möjligt för kundföretagen – det vill säga de företag som ingick i ITP-systemet – att låta pensionsmedel stå kvar som arbetande kapital i det egna företaget. I denna artikel diskuteras framför allt hur FPG:s riskexponering förändrats under ekonomisk omvandling och till följd av marknadens förändring.
