• Method and apparatus for discarding packets in a data network having automatic repeat request
• 1998
• Patent (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
• NOVELTY - A receiver in the data network is commanded to receive data packet having sequence number by inputting ARQ scheme in data network. The erroneous or unreceived data packets are then discarded. Then, sequence numbers are assigned to the non-discarded packets, that are yet to be received, so that transmitted stream of data packets will have consecutive sequence numbers. USE - For discarding data packet in wireless data network. Also used for telephony, video conferencing system. ADVANTAGE - Ensures reliable data transfer to protect data sequence integrity, as ARQ technique is used. Since the delayed or outdated data packets are transmitted correctly, bandwidth minimization is achieved and hence data packet life time is prolonged. DESCRIPTION OF DRAWING(S) - The figure shows receiver packet enforcement bit in data packet discharging method.

• Packet loss tolerant reshaping method
• 1999
• Patent (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
• NOVELTY - The method involves receiving data packets from a source. The transmission time for each received data packet is calculated based on the automatic repeat request (ARQ) sequence number of the received data packet and peak packet rate (PR). The time intervals between data packets, transported in a local area network (LAN) system with data link control (DLC) layer, are then restored. USE - For reshaping streams of data packets or cells in a communications network. ADVANTAGE - Restores or maintains proper time intervals between packets of cells in a stream to efficiently and effectively detect and handle situations where one or more packets are lost or discarded. Ensures that output stream of packets or cells from DLC reshaper is not slipped or shifted in phase and does not include jitters. Determines specific transmission times for packets or cells in the stream based on peak cell rate (PCR), ARQ sequence numbers and reference time e.g. transmission time or first packet or cell. Improves performance of synchronous application e.g. codec, and copes with packet loss by repeating preceding packet or inserting background noise in output stream in lieu of lost packet. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is also included for the LAN system with DLC layer. DESCRIPTION OF DRAWING(S) - The figure shows the DLC reshaper in a wireless asynchronous transfer mode (WATM) network.

• SimICS/sun4m : A virtual workstation
• 2019
• Ingår i: USENIX 1998 Annual Technical Conference. - New Orleans, LA, USA : USENIX Association.
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• System level simulators allow computer architects and system software designers to recreate an accurate and complete replica of the program behavior of a target system, regardless of the availability, existence, or instrumentation support of such a system. Applications include evaluation of architectural design alternatives as well as software engineering tasks such as traditional debugging and performance tuning. We present an implementation of a simulator acting as a virtual workstation fully compatible with the sun4m architecture from Sun Microsystems. Built using the system-level SPARC V8 simulator SimICS, SimICS/sun4m models one or more SPARC V8 processors, supports user-developed modules for data cache and instruction cache simulation and execution profiling of all code, and provides a symbolic and performance debugging environment for operating systems. SimICS/sun4m can boot unmodified operating systems, including Linux 2.0.30 and Solaris 2.6, directly from snapshots of disk partitions. To support essentially arbitrary code, we implemented binary-compatible simulators for several devices, including SCSI, console, interrupt, timers, EEPROM, and Ethernet. The Ethernet simulation hooks into the host and allows the virtual workstation to appear on the local network with full services available (NFS, NIS, rsh, etc). Ethernet and console traffic can be recorded for future playback. The performance of SimICS/sun4m is sufficient to run realistic workloads, such as the database benchmark TPC-D, scaling factor 1/100, or an interactive network application such as Mozilla. The slowdown in relation to native hardware is in the range of 25 to 75 (measured using SPECint95). We also demonstrate some applications, including modeling an 8-processor sun4m version (which does not exist), modeling future memory hierarchies, and debugging an operating system.

• Small-molecule inhibitors of human mitochondrial DNA transcription
• 2020
• Ingår i: Nature. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0028-0836 .- 1476-4687. ; 588, s. 712-716
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• Altered expression of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) occurs in ageing and a range of human pathologies (for example, inborn errors of metabolism, neurodegeneration and cancer). Here we describe first-in-class specific inhibitors of mitochondrial transcription (IMTs) that target the human mitochondrial RNA polymerase (POLRMT), which is essential for biogenesis of the oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) system(1-6). The IMTs efficiently impair mtDNA transcription in a reconstituted recombinant system and cause a dose-dependent inhibition of mtDNA expression and OXPHOS in cell lines. To verify the cellular target, we performed exome sequencing of mutagenized cells and identified a cluster of amino acid substitutions in POLRMT that cause resistance to IMTs. We obtained a cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) structure of POLRMT bound to an IMT, which further defined the allosteric binding site near the active centre cleft of POLRMT. The growth of cancer cells and the persistence of therapy-resistant cancer stem cells has previously been reported to depend on OXPHOS7-17, and we therefore investigated whether IMTs have anti-tumour effects. Four weeks of oral treatment with an IMT is well-tolerated in mice and does not cause OXPHOS dysfunction or toxicity in normal tissues, despite inducing a strong anti-tumour response in xenografts of human cancer cells. In summary, IMTs provide a potent and specific chemical biology tool to study the role of mtDNA expression in physiology and disease. Inhibitors of mitochondrial transcription that target human mitochondrial RNA polymerase provide a chemical biology tool for studying the role of mitochondrial DNA expression in a wide range of pathologies.

• Kinetic relationship between the voltage sensor and the activation gate in spHCN channels
• 2007
• Ingår i: The Journal of General Physiology. - : Rockefeller University Press. - 0022-1295 .- 1540-7748. ; 130:1, s. 71-81
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• Hyperpolarization-activated cyclic nucleotide-gated (HCN) channels are activated by membrane hyperpolarizations that cause an inward movement of the positive charges in the fourth transmembrane domain (S4), which triggers channel opening. The mechanism of how the motion of S4 charges triggers channel opening is unknown. Here, we used voltage clamp fluorometry (VCF) to detect S4 conformational changes and to correlate these to the different activation steps in spHCN channels. We show that S4 undergoes two distinct conformational changes during voltage activation. Analysis of the fluorescence signals suggests that the N-terminal region of S4 undergoes conformational changes during a previously characterized mode shift in HCN channel voltage dependence, while a more C-terminal region undergoes an additional conformational change during gating charge movements. We fit our fluorescence and ionic current data to a previously proposed 10-state allosteric model for HCN channels. Our results are not compatible with a fast S4 motion and rate-limiting channel opening. Instead, our data and modeling suggest that spHCN channels open after only two S4s have moved and that S4 motion is rate limiting during voltage activation of spHCN channels. © The Rockefeller University Press.

• 1998
• Ingår i: Physica C: Superconductivity and its Applications. - 0921-4534. ; 308:3-4, s. 279-288
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• High-temperature superconducting/ferroelectric thin film structures were deposited by laser ablation. Three types of voltage tunable devices were fabricated and investigated-trilayer capacitor, planar interdigital capacitor and coplanar waveguide. As ferroelectric the solid solution BaxSr1-xTiO3 was chosen with barium content x = 0.05 because its Curie temperature is close to the liquid nitrogen boiling point (77 K). Temperature and voltage dependences of the Ba0.05Sr0.95TiO3 dielectric constant epsilon(r,BSTO) were studied. High epsilon(r,BSTO) values were determined-up to 3000 at 75 K, 20 GHz and zero de bias. Efficient voltage tunability was demonstrated (up to 40%) at loss level tan delta=0.01-0.1. Compact YBa2Cu3O7-delta/Ba0.05Sr0.95TiO3 coplanar waveguide with as narrow gap as 18 mu m was tested as electrically tunable phase-shifter and field-induced phase shifts of more than 180 degrees were obtained by 35 V de bias at 20 GHz. This improvement was attained by proper choice of the ferroelectric material, accomplished epitaxial growth of the films and decrease of the specific dimensions. • Mode shifts in the voltage gating of the mouse and human HCN2 and HCN4 channels

• Ingår i: Journal of Physiology. - : Wiley. - 0022-3751 .- 1469-7793. ; 575:2, s. 417-431
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• Hyperpolarization-activated, cyclic-nucleotide-gated (HCN) channels regulate pacemaker activity in the heart and the brain. Previously, we showed that spHCN and HCN1 channels undergo mode shifts in their voltage dependences, shifting the conductance versus voltage curves by more than +50 mV when measured from a hyperpolarized potential compared to a depolarized potential. In addition, the kinetics of the ionic currents changed in parallel to these voltage shifts. In the studies reported here, we tested whether slower cardiac HCN channels also display similar mode shifts. We found that HCN2 and HCN4 channels expressed in oocytes from the frog Xenopus laevis do not display the activation kinetic changes that we observed in spHCN and HCN1. However, HCN2 and HCN4 channels display changes in their tail currents, suggesting that these channels also undergo mode shifts and that the conformational changes underlying the mode shifts are due to conserved aspects of HCN channels. With computer modelling, we show that in channels with relatively slow opening kinetics and fast mode-shift transitions, such as HCN2 and HCN4 channels, the mode shift effects are not readily observable, except in the tail kinetics. Computer simulations of sino-atrial node action potentials suggest that the HCN2 channel, together with the HCN1 channel, are important regulators of the heart firing frequency and that the mode shift is an important property to prevent arrhythmic firing. We conclude that although all HCN channels appear to undergo mode shifts -and thus may serve to prevent arrhythmic firing -it is mainly observable in ionic currents from HCN channels with faster kinetics. 2006 The Authors. • Integrative genomics approach identifies molecular features associated with early-stage ovarian carcinoma histotypes.
• 2020
• Ingår i: Scientific reports. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 2045-2322. ; 10:1
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• Ovarian cancer comprises multiple subtypes (clear-cell (CCC), endometrioid (EC), high-grade serous (HGSC), low-grade serous (LGSC), and mucinous carcinomas (MC)) with differing molecular and clinical behavior. However, robust histotype-specific biomarkers for clinical use have yet to be identified. Here, we utilized a multi-omics approach to identify novel histotype-specific genetic markers associated with ovarian carcinoma histotypes (CCC, EC, HGSC, and MC) using DNA methylation, DNA copy number alteration and RNA sequencing data for 96 primary invasive early-stage (stage I and II) ovarian carcinomas. More specifically, the DNA methylation analysis revealed hypermethylation for CCC in comparison with the other histotypes. Moreover, copy number imbalances and novel chromothripsis-like rearrangements (n=64) were identified in ovarian carcinoma, with the highest number of chromothripsis-like patterns in HGSC. For the 1000 most variable transcripts, underexpression was most prominent for all histotypes in comparison with normal ovarian samples. Overall, the integrative approach identified 46 putative oncogenes (overexpressed, hypomethylated and DNA gain) and three putative tumor suppressor genes (underexpressed, hypermethylated and DNA loss) when comparing the different histotypes. In conclusion, the current study provides novel insights into molecular features associated with early-stage ovarian carcinoma that may improve patient stratification and subclassification of the histotypes.

• Starting with today's 3G standards, future-generation wireless networks are discussed. Two complementing major trends are identified: seamless roaming between different air interfaces, leading to the Always Best Connected concept, and the continuous development of the current third-generation standards. The evolution of WCDMA toward high-speed downlink packet access, aiming for peak rates in the order of 8-10 Mb/s, is described as an example of air-interface evolution., Fourth-generation technologies such as ad hoc networking and multihop networks, still at the research level, are discussed and their impact on wireless communication systems addressed.

• Effects of an Empowerment-Based Health-Promotion School Intervention on Physical Activity and Sedentary Time among Adolescents in a Multicultural Area
• 2018
• Ingår i: International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health. - Basel : MDPI. - 1661-7827 .- 1660-4601. ; 15:11
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• Physical activity (PA) decreases with age, and interventions are needed to promote PA during adolescence, especially, among those in low-socioeconomic status (SES) areas. The aim of this study was to investigate whether a two-year, empowerment-based health-promotion school intervention had any effects on changes in (a) moderate-to-vigorous PA (MVPA), (b) sedentary time (SED), (c) exercise training (ET) frequency, and (d) ET duration, among adolescents. Participants (aged 12-13 years at baseline) from one intervention school and two control schools, were recruited from a multicultural area of Sweden, characterized by low-SES. During the course of the two-year intervention, a total of 135 participants (43% boys) were included in the study. The intervention was developed and implemented as a result of cooperation and shared decision-making among the researchers and the participants. MVPA and SED were measured with accelerometers, and ET frequency and duration was self-reported at the beginning of the seventh, eighth, and ninth grade, respectively. There were no significant effects of the two-year, empowerment-based health-promotion school intervention on changes in the accelerometer-measured MVPA and SED, or the self-reported ET frequency and duration, among the adolescents. Overall, the intervention was unsuccessful at promoting PA and reducing SED. Several possible explanations for the intervention's lack of effects are discussed.

• Pan-cancer analysis identifies BIRC5 as a prognostic biomarker.
• 2022
• Ingår i: BMC Cancer. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1471-2407. ; 22:1
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• The BIRC5 gene encodes for the Survivin protein, which is a member of the inhibitor of apoptosis family. Survivin is found in humans during fetal development, but generally not in adult cells thereafter. Previous studies have shown that Survivin is abundant in most cancer cells, thereby making it a promising target for anti-cancer drugs and a potential prognostic tool.To assess genetic alterations and mutations in the BIRC5 gene as well as BIRC5 co-expression with other genes, genomic and transcriptomic data were downloaded via cBioPortal for approximately 9000 samples from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) representing 33 different cancer types and 11 pan-cancer organ systems, and validated using the ICGC Data Portal and COSMIC. TCGA BIRC5 RNA sequencing data from 33 different cancer types and matching normal tissue samples for 16 cancer types were downloaded from Broad GDAC Firehose and validated using breast cancer microarray data from our previous work and data sets from the GENT2 web-based tool. Survival data were analyzed with multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression analysis and validated using KM plotter for breast-, ovarian-, lung- and gastric cancer.Although genetic alterations in BIRC5 were not common in cancer, BIRC5 expression was significantly higher in cancer tissue compared to normal tissue in the 16 different cancer types. For 14/33 cancer types, higher BIRC5 expression was linked to worse overall survival (OS, 4/14 after adjusting for both age and tumor grade and 10/14 after adjusting only for age). Interestingly, higher BIRC5 expression was associated with better OS in lung squamous cell carcinoma and ovarian serous cystadenocarcinoma. Higher BIRC5 expression was also linked to shorter progressive-free interval (PFI) for 14/33 cancer types (4/14 after adjusting for both age and tumor grade and 10/14 after adjusting only for age). External validation showed that high BIRC5 expression was significantly associated with worse OS for breast-, lung-, and gastric cancer. Our findings suggest that BIRC5 overexpression is associated with the initiation and progression of several cancer types, and thereby a promising prognostic biomarker.

• Empowering aspects for healthy food and physical activity habits : adolescents’ experiences of a school-based intervention in a disadvantaged urban community
• 2018
• Ingår i: International Journal of Qualitative Studies on Health and Well-being. - Abingdon : Taylor & Francis. - 1748-2623 .- 1748-2631. ; 13:sup1: Equal Health
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• Purpose:This study aimed to describe adolescents’ experiences of participating in a health-promoting school-based intervention regarding food and physical activity, with a focus on empowering aspects. Method:The school was located in a urban disadvantaged community in Sweden, characterized by poorer self-reported health and lower life expectancy than the municipality average. Focus group interviews with adolescents (29 girls, 20 boys, 14–15 years) and their teachers (n = 4) were conducted two years after intervention. Data were categorized using qualitative content analysis. Results: A theme was generated, intersecting with all the categories: Gaining control over one’s health: deciding, trying, and practicing together, in new ways, using reflective tools. The adolescents appreciated influencing the components of the intervention and collaborating with peers in active learning activities such as practicing sports and preparing meals. They also reported acquiring new health information, that trying new activities was inspiring, and the use of pedometers and photo-food diaries helped them reflect on their health behaviours. The adolescents’ experiences were also echoed by their teachers. Conclusions: To facilitate empowerment and stimulate learning, health-promotion interventions targeting adolescents could enable active learning activities in groups, by using visualizing tools to facilitate self-reflection, and allowing adolescents to influence intervention activities.

• A methodology that combines simulations of long-term mechanical degradation including maintenance interventions with an assessment of the associated socio-economic impact is proposed. This development responds to an urgent need within the railway sector to enable the evaluation of maintenance strategies from a LCC perspective. The functionality of the methodology is demonstrated in an investigation of rail grinding strategies for a curve on the Swedish Iron-ore line. The results indicate a reduction in LCC of 50% when using a harder rail material (R400HT) combined with annual rail grinding as compared to a softer rail material (R350LHT) and two grinding campaigns per year.

• Spatial Filter for MIMO Repeaters with First-Hop Channel State Information and End-to-End SNR
• 2009
• Ingår i: Vehicular Technology Conference Fall (VTC 2009-Fall), 2009 IEEE 70th.
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• —A repeater is a device that improves the ratecoverage performance of a system by amplifying and forwardingits received signal. When multiple antennas are deployed on arepeater, spatial signal processing becomes possible for betterperformance. In this paper we propose a spatial filter for sucha multi-antenna repeater. This filter is designed based on firsthop channel state information (CSI) and end-to-end signal-tonoise ratio (SNR). The optimal filter matrix is proved to be aproduct of a diagonal matrix and the conjugate transpose of theleft singular matrix of the first-hop channel matrix. The diagonalmatrix is obtained by maximizing an upper bound of the ergodicchannel capacity. Simulation results indicate that the proposedfilter outperforms that without filtering in end-to-end channelcapacity, especially when the number of repeater antennas isgreater than that of the source antennas. As the first-hop CSI andthe end-to-end SNR can be obtained without any modificationof the source or the destination, a repeater with the proposedspatial filter can be easily implemented in a current system.

• Today, many people carry numerous portable devices, such as laptops, mobile phones, PDAs and mp3 players, for use in their professional andprivate lives. For the most part, these devices are used separatelyÑthatis, their applications do not interact. Imagine, however, if they could inter-act directly: participants at a meeting could share documents or presenta-tions; business cards would automatically find their way into the addressregister on a laptop and the number register on a mobile phone; as com-muters exit a train, their laptops could remain online; likewise, incoming e-mail could now be diverted to their PDAs; finally, as they enter the office, all communication could automatically be routed through the wirelesscorporate campus network. These examples of spontaneous, ad hoc wireless communicationbetween devices might be loosely defined as a scheme, often referred toas ad hoc networking, which allows devices to establish communication, anytime and anywhere without the aid of a central infrastructure. Actually,ad hoc networking as such is not new, but the setting, usage and playersare. In the past, the notion of ad hoc networks was often associated withcommunication on combat fields and at the site of a disaster area; now,as novel technologies such as Bluetooth materialize, the scenario of adhoc networking is likely to change, as is its importance. In this article, the authors describe the concept of ad hoc networkingby giving its background and presenting some of the technical challengesit poses. The authors also point out some of the applications that can beenvisioned for ad hoc networking

• Objective: Socioeconomic inequalities in adolescents’ health and well-being are increasing, yet relatively little attention has been paid to voices of adolescents’ in disadvantaged communities and their stories about physical activity. As such, the purpose of this study was to illuminate what adolescents, from a low socioeconomic multicultural community in Sweden, convey concerning facilitators of physical activity. Methods:All seventh graders from one school in Sweden, situated in a multicultural community characterized with low socioeconomic status, were invited to the study, and 53 adolescents (12-13 years of age) agreed to participate. Embracing an interpretive approach, ten focus-group interviews was conducted to produce data for the study. The focus-group interviews were analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Findings:The analysis resulted in two major themes regarding facilitators of the adolescents’ physical activity: (1) Possibility for enjoyment; and (2) Social support and a supportive environment. The first theme illuminated that feelings of enjoyment guided the adolescents’ physical activity engagement, and that presence of peers, perceived competence, variation and options promoted enjoyment related to physical activity. The second theme illustrated that social support from family facilitated the adolescents’ physical activity, and included several suggestions from the adolescents’ on how the school environment could become more supportive of their physical activity (e.g., longer breaks in school). Conclusion:Based on the adolescents’ voices, feeling of enjoyment had a great impact on their physical activity engagement, and the presence of peers, variation and options, and perceived competence contributed to enjoyment related to physical activity. Moreover, according to the adolescents, social support from family facilitated their physical activity and the school environment had the potential of becoming more supportive of their physical activity. Noteworthy, when the adolescents spoke about physical activity, they mostly referred to spontaneous physical activities (e.g., playing football with friends), rather than organized physical activities, which appear to be specific for these adolescents.

• Despite increasing socioeconomic inequalities in the health and well-being of adolescents, the voices of adolescents in disadvantaged communities regarding facilitators of physical activity (PA) have received relatively little attention. In response, the purpose of this study was to illuminate what adolescents in a multicultural community of low socioeconomic status (SES) in Sweden convey concerning facilitators of PA. Adolescents (n = 53, aged 12–13 years) were recruited from a school in a multicultural community of low SES in Sweden. Following an interpretive approach, 10 focus group interviews were conducted to produce data for a qualitative content analysis. When the adolescents mentioned PA, they mostly referred to spontaneous PA rather than organized PA, and expressed that they enjoyed their PA engagement, which they stated was promoted by the variation of PA, available options for PA, their physical skills, and the presence of peers. They reported that social support from family and friends facilitated their PA, and they offered several suggestions regarding how the school environment could better support their PA. From the perspective of self-determination theory (SDT), the results stress the importance of facilitating intrinsic motivation with a supportive PA environment in which adolescents can satisfy their needs for autonomy, competence, and relatedness. © 2017 by the authors. • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• In this paper, we describe and critically reflect on the possibilities and challenges of developing and implementing an empowerment-based school intervention regarding healthy food and physical activity (PA), involving participants from a Swedish multicultural area characterized by low socioeconomic status. The 2-year intervention was continually developed and implemented, as a result of cooperation and shared decision making among researchers and the participants. All 54 participants were seventh graders, and the intervention comprised health coaching, health promotion sessions and a Facebook group. We experienced that participants valued collaborating with peers, and that they took responsibility in codeveloping and implementing the intervention. Participants expressed feeling listened to, being treated with respect and taken seriously. However, we also experienced a number of barriers that challenged our initial intentions of aiding participation and ambition to support empowerment. Moreover, it was challenging to use structured group health coaching and to work with goal-setting in groups of participants with shared, and sometimes competing, goals, wishes and needs related to food and PA. Successful experiences from this intervention was the importance of acquiring a broad and deep understanding of the context and participants, being open to negotiating, as well as adjusting the intervention.

• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• This study aimed to illuminate factors that undermine the healthy habits of adolescents from a multicultural community with low socioeconomic status (S.E.S.) in Sweden with regard to physical activity (P.A.) and food, as stated in their own voices. Adolescents (n = 53, 12–13 y/o) were recruited from one school situated in a multicultural community characterized by low S. E.S. Embracing an interpretive approach, 10 focus-group interviews were conducted to produce data for the study. The focus-group interviews were audio recorded, transcribed verbatim, and analysed using qualitative content analysis. The analysis resulted in two major themes: (1) the availability of temptations is large, and support from the surroundings is limited; and (2) norms and demands set the agenda. The adolescents’ voices illuminate a profound awareness and the magnitude of tempting screen-based activities as undermining their P.A. and healthy food habits. Moreover, several gender boundaries were highlighted as undermining girls’ P.A. and healthy food habits. The adolescents’ stories illuminated that it is difficult for them, within their environment, to establish healthy habits with regard to P.A. and food. To facilitate the adolescents’ healthy habits, we suggest that support from family, friends, the school, and society at large is essential.

• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• Objective: A school tobacco policy (STP) commonly is used to reduce smoking among adolescents, but the effectiveness of such programs is unclear. We evaluated the impact of an STP on tobacco use in 4 schools. Methods: The study included 4 intervention and 4 control schools, located in the inner city of Stockholm, Sweden. Schools self-selected for assignment to either an intervention program or a comparison group. In total, the study was comprised of 2671 students in grades 9 and 11, ages 15 to 18, and 1998 students (75%) responded to the questionnaire. We used a repeated cross-sectional design with assessment of tobacco use prevalence before implementation of the STP in 2016 and after 2 years under the program, in 2018.Results: Two years after the STP, the intervention school in grade 9 showed a lower prevalence (13.5% vs 1.6%) in the proportion of students who reported smoking (χ2 = 4.54; p < .05) whereas the proportion reporting snus use was practically unchanged. We found no statistically significant impact of the STP for grade 11.Conclusions: The results are promising with regard to smoking, when the STP is implemented in early adolescence.

• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• In this paper, we present optimal network coding which can maximize achievable rate region in two-way relaying discrete channels, where there are two communicating nodes and one relaying node. We focus on a low-complexity relaying protocol termed the detect-and-forward (DtF) scheme, in which the relaying node does not require channel decoding but detection. We first analyze the achievable rate region of any digital network coding function including non-linear types. We then search for the optimal network code in favor of maximizing two kinds of performance measures: the sum rate and the product rate. For high SNR regimes, linear network codes like the exclusive-or (XOR) function can offer the maximum-achievable rate region. Whereas, for low SNR regimes, it is verified that non-linear network codes like the negate-or (NOR) function can outperform linear codes due to the effect of error occurrence at the intermediate relaying node.

• 2017
• Ingår i: Bygg & Teknik. ; 2017:4, s. 12-17

• This report presents the implementation, results, discussion and conclusions of the project "Solar Shading in an Overall Perspective - From Energy Efficiency to Energy Production and from Product to Architecture". From 2015 to 2018, companies from the solar shading and solar PV industries, together with architects, researchers, contractors and property managers, have explored the area in order to increase interest, knowledge and acceptance for solar shading in various important target groups. A strong focus has been on the combination of solar cells and solar shadings in a product named electricity generating solar shading. Among the results is a literature summary and an experience feedback from eight installations, as well as a database of examples from about 70 solar-shading installations, most of which are built up of solar cells. A development effort in collaboration between solar shading- and solar PV companies has resulted in several new products that were evaluated in the project and now being demonstrated at RISE's office in Borås.

• Absorbed dose to the kidneys after treatment with 177Lu-octreotate
• 2011
• Ingår i: European Journal of Nuclear Medicine & Molecular Imaging.
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• 177Lu-DOTA-octreotate (177Lu-octreotate) is used for therapy of patients with neuroendocrine (NE), somatostatin-receptor-expressing tumours. After administration 177Lu is mainly secreted via the kidneys with reabsorption and accumulation in the kidney cortex. One of the limiting factors in this type of treatment is kidney toxicity. The aim of this study was to estimate the absorbed dose to the kidneys after fractionated therapy, and examine how which time-points that are necessary for more accurate determination of the biokinetics and cumulated activity of 177Lu. Methods: Totally, 33 patients with NE tumours received 3.5-8 GBq 177Lu-octreotate, up to five times, combined with amino acid infusion to block the kidney uptake. Whole body planar gamma camera images were taken at day 0, 1, 2 and 7. The conjugate-view method was used to determine the 177Lu activity in the kidneys, and the absorbed dose to the kidneys was determined. Then, activity data from one time-point at a time was excluded, and the resulting absorbed dose was compared with that based on all time-points. Results: Large variations were found in the patterns of the time-activity curves, and in kidneys between patients: 0.34-2.43 Gy/GBq, also. Large variations were also seen in the absorbed dose to the kidneys between fractions for an individual patient. Excluding data for day 7 resulted in a deviation in the absorbed dose to the kidneys up to a factor of 2.3. Conclusion: A large variation in the absorbed dose to the kidneys per administered activity was found after therapy with 177Lu-octreotate. The results clearly show that treatment planning and treatment follow-up is necessary for each patient for individual optimisation of the treatment.

• Estimation of absorbed dose to the kidneys in patients after treatment with 177Lu-octreotate: comparison between methods based on planar scintigraphy.
• 2012
• Ingår i: EJNMMI research. - 2191-219X. ; 2:1
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• ABSTRACT: BACKGROUND: Lu-[DOTA0, Tyr3]-octreotate (177Lu-octreotate) is used to treat neuroendocrine tumors with high somatostatin-receptor expression. 177Lu-octreotate is mainly excreted via the kidneys, but to some extent, accumulates in the kidney cortex due to, e.g., tubular reabsorption. Renal toxicity is one of the main limiting factors in 177Lu-octreotate treatment. Further knowledge of the biodistribution and dosimetry of 177Lu-octreotate in individual patients is needed. The aim of this study was to estimate the absorbed dose to the kidneys and compare the results obtained with planar imaging and different dosimetric methods: (1) conjugate-view (CV) method using patient-specific kidney sizes, (2) PA method, based on posterior images only, (3) CV method with reduced number of time points (CVreduced data), and (4) CV method using standard kidney sizes (CVstandard size). METHODS: Totally, 33 patients each received 3.4 to 8.2 GBq of 177Lu-octreotate up to five times, with infusion of lysine and arginine to block the renal uptake. Whole-body planar gamma camera images were acquired on days 0, 1, 2, and 7. The 177Lu concentration in the kidneys was determined by the CV method, and the absorbed dose was estimated with patient-specific organ sizes. Comparison to the CV method was made using posterior images only, together with the influence of the number of time points and with standard organ sizes. RESULTS: Large interindividual variations were found in the time-activity curve pattern and in the absorbed dose to the kidneys using the CV method: 0.33 to 2.4 Gy/GBq (mean 0.80 Gy/GBq, SD = 0.30). In the individual patient, the mean deviation of all subsequent kidney doses compared to that of the first administration was 1 % (SD 19 %) and 5 % (SD 23 %) for the right and left kidneys, respectively. Excluding data for day 7 resulted in large variations in the absorbed dose. CONCLUSION: Large interindividual variations in kidney dose were found, demonstrating the need for patient-specific dosimetry and treatment planning.

• Ingår i: 2008 IEEE 67TH VEHICULAR TECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE-SPRING, VOLS 1-7. - : IEEE. - 9781424416448 ; , s. 61-65
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• In this paper, a new, and simple arithmetic operation for network coding (NC) in wireless communication is proposed. It is built on the assumption of constant modulus signals with phase conveyed information such as PSK and employs, in contrast to classical NC finite field additions, a multiplicative NC operation. The benefit of the method is that it decouples the NC operation from forward error correction (FEC) and modulation imposed joint constraints and thus permits for greater flexibility to adapt code and modulation rates to different user. It may further reduce hardware (HW) complexity and cost for NC enabled relays and it may operate directly on (potentially noisy) baseband signals. The performance of the proposed NC method is examined in a three phase NC hi-directional relaying scenario and compared to a traditional four phase non-NC scheme illustrating performance benefits in the high signal to noise (SNR) region and its viability for the former.

• In this paper, a routing metric for shortest pathrouting is described. The metric is particularly crafted for a flooracquisition oriented medium access scheme, such as IEEE 802.11DCF, where nodes around communicating node pairs get blocked. Two variants of the metric are described, one forsystems with and one for systems without rate control. Performance is evaluated and compared to two conventional metrics (minimum hop and inverse rate metrics). Implementation issues related to the metric are also discussed

• Ingår i: 2007 IEEE WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS & NETWORKING CONFERENCE, VOLS 1-9. - New York : IEEE. - 9781424406586 ; , s. 384-388
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• This paper presents an analysis of multi-user ARQ for multiple unicast flows with arbitrary reception probabilities. The core idea of multi-user ARQ is to exploit knowledge of previously overheard packets by unintended users, and perform wise selection and joint encoding of any retransmitted information. Intended users may decode the jointly encoded packet by exploiting the previously overheard packets. In this paper, a scheduling approach that balances the traffic shares and maximizes the throughput is proposed and analyzed. It is found that identical reception probabilities among the users yields the best performance and that the sensitivity in throughput efficiency, with respect to changes in reception probabilities, is reduced when the number of user increases.

• Ingår i: 2006 IEEE 63RD VEHICULAR TECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE, VOLS 1-6. - 9780780393912 ; , s. 851-855
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• In this paper, bi-directional traffic between two nodes communicating via a relay node is considered. A novel relaying method based on joint data packet encoding in conjunction with exploitation of a priori known information is presented. Moreover, a specially crafted method for combining of the direct and relayed radio signal is suggested. The proposed scheme enables a reduced number of transmissions, whereby enhancing aggregate throughput. Evaluation, where optimal power and rate settings are derived, shows that the proposed method enhances the throughput up to 33% as compared to a (traditional) four-phase bi-directional protocol under a system energy constraint, both with and without the proposed combining method.
