  • Direct photon production in d+Au collisions at root s(NN)=200 GeV
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C (Nuclear Physics). - 0556-2813. ; 87:5
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Direct photons have been measured in root s(NN) = 200 GeV d + Au collisions at midrapidity. A wide p(T) range is covered by measurements of nearly real virtual photons (1 < p(T) < 6 GeV/c) and real photons (5 < p(T) < 16 GeV/c). The invariant yield of the direct photons in d + Au collisions over the scaled p + p cross section is consistent with unity. Theoretical calculations assuming standard cold-nuclear-matter effects describe the data well for the entire p(T) range. This indicates that the large enhancement of direct photons observed in Au + Au collisions for 1.0 < p(T) < 2.5 GeV/c is attributable to a source other than the initial-state nuclear effects.

  • Nuclear modification factors of phi mesons in d plus Au, Cu plus Cu, and Au plus Au collisions at root s(NN)=200 GeV
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C (Nuclear Physics). - 0556-2813. ; 83:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The PHENIX experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider has performed systematic measurements of phi meson production in the K+K- decay channel at midrapidity in p + p, d + Au, Cu + Cu, and Au + Au collisions at root s(NN) = 200 GeV. Results are presented on the phi invariant yield and the nuclear modification factor R-AA for Au + Au and Cu + Cu, and R-dA for d + Au collisions, studied as a function of transverse momentum (1 < p(T) < 7 GeV/c) and centrality. In central and midcentral Au + Au collisions, the R-AA of phi exhibits a suppression relative to expectations from binary scaled p + p results. The amount of suppression is smaller than that of the pi(0) and the. in the intermediate p(T) range (2-5 GeV/c), whereas, at higher p(T), the phi, pi(0), and. show similar suppression. The baryon (proton and antiproton) excess observed in central Au + Au collisions at intermediate p(T) is not observed for the phi meson despite the similar masses of the proton and the phi. This suggests that the excess is linked to the number of valence quarks in the hadron rather than its mass. The difference gradually disappears with decreasing centrality, and, for peripheral collisions, the R-AA values for both particle species are consistent with binary scaling. Cu + Cu collisions show the same yield and suppression as Au + Au collisions for the same number of N-part. The R-dA of phi shows no evidence for cold nuclear effects within uncertainties.

  • Production of omega mesons in p plus p, d plus Au, Cu plus Cu, and Au plus Au collisions at root s(NN)=200 GeV
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C (Nuclear Physics). - 0556-2813. ; 84:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The PHENIX experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider has measured omega meson production via leptonic and hadronic decay channels in p + p, d + Au, Cu+ Cu, and Au + Au collisions at root s(NN) = 200 GeV. The invariant transverse momentum spectra measured in different decay modes give consistent results. Measurements in the hadronic decay channel in Cu Cu and Au + Au collisions show that. production has a suppression pattern at high transverse momentum, similar to that of pi(0) and eta in central collisions, but no suppression is observed in peripheral collisions. The nuclear modification factors, R-AA, are consistent in Cu + Cu and Au + Au collisions at similar numbers of participant nucleons.

  • MC1R variation and melanoma risk in the Swedish population in relation to clinical and pathological parameters
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Pigment Cell & Melanoma Research. - 1755-148X .- 1755-1471. ; 22:2, s. 196-204
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The genetic background of cutaneous malignant melanoma (CMM) includes both germ line aberrations in high-penetrance genes, like CDKN2A, and allelic variation in low-penetrance genes like the melanocortin-1 receptor gene, MC1R. Red-hair colour associated MC1R alleles (RHC) have been associated with red hair, fair skin and risk of CMM. We investigated MC1R and CDKN2A variation in relation to phenotype, clinical factors and CMM risk in the Swedish population. The study cohort consisted of sporadic primary melanoma patients, familial melanoma patients and a control group. An allele-dose dependent increase in melanoma risk for carriers of variant MC1R alleles (after adjusting for phenotype), with an elevated risk among familial CMM patients, was observed. This elevated risk was found to be significantly associated with an increased frequency of dysplastic nevi (DN) among familial patients compared to sporadic patients. MC1R variation was found to be less frequent among acral lentiginous melanomas (ALM) and dependent on tumour localisation. No association was found between CDKN2A gene variants and general melanoma risk. Two new variants in the POMC gene were identified in red haired individuals without RHC alleles.

  • Autonomous Realization of Safety- and Time-Critical Embedded Artificial Intelligence
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: 2024 Design, Automation and Test in Europe Conference and Exhibition, DATE 2024 - Proceedings. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • There is an evident need to complement embedded critical control logic with AI inference, but today's AI-capable hardware, software, and processes are primarily targeted towards the needs of cloud-centric actors. Telecom and defense airspace industries, which make heavy use of specialized hardware, face the challenge of manually hand-tuning AI workloads and hardware, presenting an unprecedented cost and complexity due to the diversity and sheer number of deployed instances. Furthermore, embedded AI functionality must not adversely affect real-time and safety requirements of the critical business logic. To address this, end-to-end AI pipelines for critical platforms are needed to automate the adaption of networks to fit into resource-constrained devices under critical and real-time constraints, while remaining interoperable with de-facto standard AI tools and frameworks used in the cloud. We present two industrial applications where such solutions are needed to bring AI to critical and resource-constrained hardware, and a generalized end-to-end AI pipeline that addresses these needs. Crucial steps to realize it are taken in the industry-academia collaborative FASTER-AI project.

    • In Machine Learning systems, several factors impact the performance of a trained model. The most important ones include model architecture, the amount of training time, the dataset size and diversity. In the realm of safety-critical machine learning the used datasets need to reflect the environment in which the system is intended to operate, in order to minimize the generalization gap between trained and real-world inputs. Datasets should be thoroughly prepared and requirements on the properties and characteristics of the collected data need to be specified. In our work we present a case study in which generating a synthetic dataset is accomplished based on real-world flight data from the ADS-B system, containing thousands of approaches to several airports to identify real-world statistical distributions of relevant variables to vary within our dataset sampling space. We also investigate what the effects are of training a model on synthetic data to different extents, including training on translated image sets (using domain adaptation). Our results indicate airport location to be the most critical parameter to vary. We also conclude that all experiments did benefit in performance from pre-training on synthetic data rather than using only real data, however this did not hold true in general for domain adaptation-translated images.

  • Evaluating the Robustness of ML Models to Out-of-Distribution Data Through Similarity Analysis
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Commun. Comput. Info. Sci.. - : Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH. - 9783031429408 ; , s. 348-359, s. 348-359
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In Machine Learning systems, several factors impact the performance of a trained model. The most important ones include model architecture, the amount of training time, the dataset size and diversity. We present a method for analyzing datasets from a use-case scenario perspective, detecting and quantifying out-of-distribution (OOD) data on dataset level. Our main contribution is the novel use of similarity metrics for the evaluation of the robustness of a model by introducing relative Fréchet Inception Distance (FID) and relative Kernel Inception Distance (KID) measures. These relative measures are relative to a baseline in-distribution dataset and are used to estimate how the model will perform on OOD data (i.e. estimate the model accuracy drop). We find a correlation between our proposed relative FID/relative KID measure and the drop in Average Precision (AP) accuracy on unseen data.

  • Gaia Data Release 1 : Open cluster astrometry: Performance, limitations, and future prospects
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Astronomy and Astrophysics. - : EDP Sciences. - 0004-6361 .- 1432-0746. ; 601
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Context. The first Gaia Data Release contains the Tycho-Gaia Astrometric Solution (TGAS). This is a subset of about 2 million stars for which, besides the position and photometry, the proper motion and parallax are calculated using Hipparcos and Tycho-2 positions in 1991.25 as prior information. Aims. We investigate the scientific potential and limitations of the TGAS component by means of the astrometric data for open clusters. Methods. Mean cluster parallax and proper motion values are derived taking into account the error correlations within the astrometric solutions for individual stars, an estimate of the internal velocity dispersion in the cluster, and, where relevant, the effects of the depth of the cluster along the line of sight. Internal consistency of the TGAS data is assessed. Results. Values given for standard uncertainties are still inaccurate and may lead to unrealistic unit-weight standard deviations of least squares solutions for cluster parameters. Reconstructed mean cluster parallax and proper motion values are generally in very good agreement with earlier Hipparcos-based determination, although the Gaia mean parallax for the Pleiades is a significant exception. We have no current explanation for that discrepancy. Most clusters are observed to extend to nearly 15 pc from the cluster centre, and it will be up to future Gaia releases to establish whether those potential cluster-member stars are still dynamically bound to the clusters. Conclusions. The Gaia DR1 provides the means to examine open clusters far beyond their more easily visible cores, and can provide membership assessments based on proper motions and parallaxes. A combined HR diagram shows the same features as observed before using the Hipparcos data, with clearly increased luminosities for older A and F dwarfs.
