  • Ingår i: Military Medical Research. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 2054-9369. ; 7:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is the cause of a rapidly spreading illness, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), affecting more than seventeen million people around the world. Diagnosis and treatment guidelines for clinicians caring for patients are needed. In the early stage, we have issued "A rapid advice guideline for the diagnosis and treatment of 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) infected pneumonia (standard version)"; now there are many direct evidences emerged and may change some of previous recommendations and it is ripe for develop an evidence-based guideline. We formed a working group of clinical experts and methodologists. The steering group members proposed 29 questions that are relevant to the management of COVID-19 covering the following areas: chemoprophylaxis, diagnosis, treatments, and discharge management. We searched the literature for direct evidence on the management of COVID-19, and assessed its certainty generated recommendations using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) approach. Recommendations were either strong or weak, or in the form of ungraded consensus-based statement. Finally, we issued 34 statements. Among them, 6 were strong recommendations for, 14 were weak recommendations for, 3 were weak recommendations against and 11 were ungraded consensus-based statement. They covered topics of chemoprophylaxis (including agents and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) agents), diagnosis (including clinical manifestations, reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), respiratory tract specimens, IgM and IgG antibody tests, chest computed tomography, chest x-ray, and CT features of asymptomatic infections), treatments (including lopinavir-ritonavir, umifenovir, favipiravir, interferon, remdesivir, combination of antiviral drugs, hydroxychloroquine/chloroquine, interleukin-6 inhibitors, interleukin-1 inhibitors, glucocorticoid, qingfei paidu decoction, lianhua qingwen granules/capsules, convalescent plasma, lung transplantation, invasive or noninvasive ventilation, and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)), and discharge management (including discharge criteria and management plan in patients whose RT-PCR retesting shows SARS-CoV-2 positive after discharge). We also created two figures of these recommendations for the implementation purpose. We hope these recommendations can help support healthcare workers caring for COVID-19 patients.

  • A century of trends in adult human height
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: eLIFE. - 2050-084X. ; 5
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Being taller is associated with enhanced longevity, and higher education and earnings. We reanalysed 1472 population-based studies, with measurement of height on more than 18.6 million participants to estimate mean height for people born between 1896 and 1996 in 200 countries. The largest gain in adult height over the past century has occurred in South Korean women and Iranian men, who became 20.2 cm (95% credible interval 17.522.7) and 16.5 cm (13.319.7) taller, respectively. In contrast, there was little change in adult height in some sub-Saharan African countries and in South Asia over the century of analysis. The tallest people over these 100 years are men born in the Netherlands in the last quarter of 20th century, whose average heights surpassed 182.5 cm, and the shortest were women born in Guatemala in 1896 (140.3 cm; 135.8144.8). The height differential between the tallest and shortest populations was 19-20 cm a century ago, and has remained the same for women and increased for men a century later despite substantial changes in the ranking of countries.

  • An international effort towards developing standards for best practices in analysis, interpretation and reporting of clinical genome sequencing results in the CLARITY Challenge
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Genome Biology. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1465-6906 .- 1474-760X. ; 15:3, s. R53-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: There is tremendous potential for genome sequencing to improve clinical diagnosis and care once it becomes routinely accessible, but this will require formalizing research methods into clinical best practices in the areas of sequence data generation, analysis, interpretation and reporting. The CLARITY Challenge was designed to spur convergence in methods for diagnosing genetic disease starting from clinical case history and genome sequencing data. DNA samples were obtained from three families with heritable genetic disorders and genomic sequence data were donated by sequencing platform vendors. The challenge was to analyze and interpret these data with the goals of identifying disease-causing variants and reporting the findings in a clinically useful format. Participating contestant groups were solicited broadly, and an independent panel of judges evaluated their performance. Results: A total of 30 international groups were engaged. The entries reveal a general convergence of practices on most elements of the analysis and interpretation process. However, even given this commonality of approach, only two groups identified the consensus candidate variants in all disease cases, demonstrating a need for consistent fine-tuning of the generally accepted methods. There was greater diversity of the final clinical report content and in the patient consenting process, demonstrating that these areas require additional exploration and standardization. Conclusions: The CLARITY Challenge provides a comprehensive assessment of current practices for using genome sequencing to diagnose and report genetic diseases. There is remarkable convergence in bioinformatic techniques, but medical interpretation and reporting are areas that require further development by many groups.

  • Effects of diabetes definition on global surveillance of diabetes prevalence and diagnosis: a pooled analysis of 96 population-based studies with 331288 participants
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology. - 2213-8595 .- 2213-8587. ; 3:8, s. 624-637
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background Diabetes has been defined on the basis of different biomarkers, including fasting plasma glucose (FPG), 2-h plasma glucose in an oral glucose tolerance test (2hOGTT), and HbA(1c). We assessed the effect of different diagnostic definitions on both the population prevalence of diabetes and the classification of previously undiagnosed individuals as having diabetes versus not having diabetes in a pooled analysis of data from population-based health examination surveys in different regions. Methods We used data from 96 population-based health examination surveys that had measured at least two of the biomarkers used for defining diabetes. Diabetes was defined using HbA(1c) (HbA(1c) >= 6 . 5% or history of diabetes diagnosis or using insulin or oral hypoglycaemic drugs) compared with either FPG only or FPG-or-2hOGTT definitions (FPG >= 7 . 0 mmol/L or 2hOGTT >= 11 . 1 mmol/L or history of diabetes or using insulin or oral hypoglycaemic drugs). We calculated diabetes prevalence, taking into account complex survey design and survey sample weights. We compared the prevalences of diabetes using different definitions graphically and by regression analyses. We calculated sensitivity and specificity of diabetes diagnosis based on HbA1c compared with diagnosis based on glucose among previously undiagnosed individuals (ie, excluding those with history of diabetes or using insulin or oral hypoglycaemic drugs). We calculated sensitivity and specificity in each survey, and then pooled results using a random-effects model. We assessed the sources of heterogeneity of sensitivity by meta-regressions for study characteristics selected a priori. Findings Population prevalence of diabetes based on FPG- or-2hOGTT was correlated with prevalence based on FPG alone (r= 0 . 98), but was higher by 2-6 percentage points at different prevalence levels. Prevalence based on HbA(1c) was lower than prevalence based on FPG in 42 . 8% of age-sex-survey groups and higher in another 41 . 6%; in the other 15 . 6%, the two definitions provided similar prevalence estimates. The variation across studies in the relation between glucose-based and HbA(1c)-based prevalences was partly related to participants' age, followed by natural logarithm of per person gross domestic product, the year of survey, mean BMI, and whether the survey population was national, subnational, or from specific communities. Diabetes defined as HbA(1c) 6 . 5% or more had a pooled sensitivity of 52 . 8% (95% CI 51 . 3-54 . 3%) and a pooled specificity of 99 . 74% (99 . 71-99 . 78%) compared with FPG 7 . 0 mmol/L or more for diagnosing previously undiagnosed participants; sensitivity compared with diabetes defined based on FPG-or-2hOGTT was 30 . 5% (28 . 7-32 . 3%). None of the preselected study-level characteristics explained the heterogeneity in the sensitivity of HbA(1c) versus FPG. Interpretation Different biomarkers and definitions for diabetes can provide different estimates of population prevalence of diabetes, and differentially identify people without previous diagnosis as having diabetes. Using an HbA(1c)-based definition alone in health surveys will not identify a substantial proportion of previously undiagnosed people who would be considered as having diabetes using a glucose-based test.

  • Barium Titanium Oxynitride from Ammonia-Free Nitridation of Reduced BaTiO3
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Inorganics. - : MDPI AG. - 2304-6740. ; 9:8
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We investigated the nitridation of reduced BaTiO3, BaTiO2.60H0.08, corresponding to an oxyhydride with a large concentration of O defects (>10%). The material is readily nitrided under flowing N2 gas at temperatures between 400 and 450 °C to yield oxynitrides BaTiO2.6Nx (x = 0.2−0.22) with a slightly tetragonally distorted perovskite structure, a ≈ 4.01 and c ≈ 4.02 Å, and Ti partially remaining in the oxidation state III. The tetragonal structure was confirmed from Raman spectroscopy. 14N MAS NMR spectroscopy shows a single resonance at 270 ppm, which is typical for perovskite transition metal oxynitrides. However, largely different signal intensity for materials with very similar N content suggests N/O/vacancy ordering when prolonging nitridation times to hours. Diffuse reflectance UV-VIS spectroscopy shows a reduction of the intrinsic band gap to 2.4–2.45 eV compared to BaTiO3 (~3.2 eV). Mott-Schottky measurements confirm n-type conductivity and reveal a slight negative shift of the conduction band edge from –0.59 V (BaTiO3) to ~–0.65 eV.

  • Experimental study on effects of ammonia enrichment on the thermoacoustic instability of lean premixed swirling methane flames
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Fuel. - 0016-2361. ; 357
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Ammonia (NH3) has recently emerged as a promising carbon-free energy carrier. Further development and application of NH3 as fuel in the gas turbine industry can significantly reduce the emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) and contribute to the achievement of a carbon–neutral society. This study experimentally examined the thermoacoustic instability characteristics of a laboratory-scaled lean premixed gas turbine model combustor operated with different NH3 blending ratios with methane (CH4). Experiments conducted under a wide range of inlet velocities and equivalence ratios suggest that NH3 concentration is critical in determining the characteristics of the instability. Specifically, when the NH3 proportion is less than 50 %, the addition of NH3 causes a mode transition of the instability. However, when the content of NH3 is greater than 50 %, it is shown that the instabilities are suppressed, indicating that the addition of a certain amount of NH3 can enhance the stability of CH4 flames. Additional analysis of flame dynamics reveals that the introduction of NH3 causes the lengthening of the flame front and weakens heat release rate fluctuations in the flame root regions. Further Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) analysis of the flow field shows that the instability modes are strongly coupled with periodic vortex motions of the flow dynamics along the shear layers. Finally, the mode shifting phenomena is successfully predicted by low-order thermoacoustic network modeling. It is suggested that the change in convective time delay caused by NH3 addition is responsible for such transitions.

  • Influence of swirl intensity on combustion dynamics and emissions in an ammonia-enriched methane/air combustor
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Physics of Fluids. - 1070-6631. ; 36:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Ammonia (NH3) has been widely considered as a promising carbon-free energy and hydrogen carrier for various applications. The large-scale direct utilization of NH3 as fuel in gas turbine engines is currently attracting significant interest, with strong focuses on improving the efficiency and stability of the system and reducing the emissions of pollutants. The present study experimentally examined the impacts of swirl intensity on combustion stability and emissions in an NH3-enriched premixed swirl-stabilized CH4/air combustor under a wide range of equivalence ratios. Simultaneous high-speed OH* chemiluminescence and particle image velocimetry measurements suggested that increasing swirl intensity resulted in more compact flame shapes and expanded the recirculation zone, which promoted flame stability at higher NH3 ratios. However, under specified conditions, enhancing swirl intensity could increase the instability frequency and amplitude of pressure oscillations. The flame dynamics exhibited different behaviors depending on the swirl intensity. At high swirl intensity, the flames underwent high-frequency, small-amplitude periodic motion. At low swirl intensity, the flames oscillated axially with large amplitude and low frequency. For flow dynamics, the stability of the vortex at high swirl intensity contrasted with the periodic vortex shedding at low swirl intensity. Furthermore, the two-dimensional Rayleigh index indicated that the dominant positive thermoacoustic coupling regions were located near the flame shear layers and flame tail at low and high swirl intensities, respectively. Finally, the experimental results showed that swirl intensity affected pollutant emissions by influencing the temperature of combustion chamber and gas mixing efficiency. The pathway of fuel-type NOx was found to be dominant in the NOx emission of the NH3/CH4/air flames.

  • Ingår i: Green Chemistry Letters and Reviews. - : Informa UK Limited. - 1751-8253 .- 1751-7192. ; 15:3, s. 658-670
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Quaternary metal oxynitride-based photoanodes with a large light transmittance are promising for high solar-to-hydrogen (STH) conversion efficiency in photoelectrochemical (PEC) tandem cells. Transparent substrates to support PEC water-splitting were fabricated using atomic layer deposition (ALD) to synthesize 30 and 60 nm GaN on SiC substrates. A generalized approach was used to grow a quaternary metal oxynitride, i.e. SrTaO2N thin film on the GaN/SiC substrates. The transparency above 60% in the wide solar spectrum highlights its availability of transmitting visible light to the rear side. A photocurrent onset at ca. −0.4 V vs. reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) was achieved by the SrTaO2N/GaN/SiC photoanodes in a 0.1 M NaOH electrolyte under simulated solar irradiation. This paves the way for the construction of hierarchically nanostructured tandem PEC cells. This work demonstrates the viability of integrating ALD in constructing substrates for semi-transparent quaternary metal oxynitride photoanodes.

  • Nanostructured core-shell metal borides-oxides as highly efficient electrocatalysts for photoelectrochemical water oxidation

  • Ingår i: Nanoscale. - : Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). - 2040-3364 .- 2040-3372. ; 12:5, s. 3121-3128
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalysts are critical components of photoanodes for photoelectrochemical (PEC) water oxidation. Herein, nanostructured metal boride MB (M = Co, Fe) electrocatalysts, which have been synthesized by a Sn/SnCl2 redox assisted solid-state method, were integrated with WO3 thin films to build heterojunction photoanodes. As-obtained MB modified WO3 photoanodes exhibit enhanced charge carrier transport, amended separation of photogenerated electrons and holes, prolonged hole lifetime and increased charge carrier density. Surface modification of CoB and FeB significantly enhances the photocurrent density of WO3 photoanodes from 0.53 to 0.83 and 0.85 mA cm(-2), respectively, in transient chronoamperometry (CA) at 1.23 V vs. RHE (V-RHE) under interrupted illumination in 0.1 M Na2SO4 electrolyte (pH 7), corresponding to an increase of 1.6 relative to pristine WO3. In contrast, the pristine MB thin film electrodes do not produce noticeable photocurrent during water oxidation. The metal boride catalysts transform in situ to a core-shell structure with a metal boride core and a metal oxide (MO, M = Co, Fe) surface layer. When coupled to WO3 thin films, the CoB@CoOx nanostructures exhibit a higher catalytic enhancement than corresponding pure cobalt borate (Co-B-i) and cobalt hydroxide (Co(OH)(x)) electrocatalysts. Our results emphasize the role of the semiconductor-electrocatalyst interface for photoelectrodes and their high dependency on materials combination.

  • NiO/Poly(4-alkylthiazole) Hybrid Interface for Promoting Spatial Charge Separation in Photoelectrochemical Water Reduction
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 1944-8244 .- 1944-8252. ; 12:26, s. 29173-29180
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Conjugated polymers are emerging as alternatives to inorganic semiconductors for the photoelectrochemical water splitting. Herein, semi-transparent poly(4-alkylthiazole) layers with different trialkylsilyloxymethyl (R3SiOCH2-) side chains (PTzTNB, R = n-butyl; PTzTHX, R = n-hexyl) are applied to functionalize NiO thin films to build hybrid photocathodes. The hybrid interface allows for the effective spatial separation of the photoexcited carriers. Specifically, the PTzTHX-deposited composite photocathode increases the photocurrent density 6- and 2-fold at 0 V versus the reversible hydrogen electrode in comparison to the pristine NiO and PTzTHX photocathodes, respectively. This is also reflected in the substantial anodic shift of onset potential under simulated Air Mass 1.5 Global illumination, owing to the prolonged lifetime, augmented density, and alleviated recombination of photogenerated electrons. Additionally, coupling the inorganic and organic components also enhances the photoabsorption and amends the stability of the photocathode-driven system. This work demonstrates the feasibility of poly(4-alkylthiazole)s as an effective alternative to known inorganic semiconductor materials. We highlight the interface alignment for polymer-based photoelectrodes.

  • Semi Transparent Three-Dimensional Macroporous Quaternary Oxynitride Photoanodes for Photoelectrochemical Water Oxidation
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Chemistry of Materials. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 0897-4756 .- 1520-5002. ; 34:15, s. 6902-6911
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Semi transparent three-dimensional macroporous (3DM) photoanodes based on quaternary oxynitrides have the potential to simultaneously realize superior light harvesting and efficient charge transfer in a tandem photoelectrochemical (PEC) cell. A 3DM CaTaO2N photoanode was prepared for the first time on a GaN/Al2O3 substrate via a chemical route, and it exhibits a high transmittance of > 60% in the wide solar spectrum and a photoresponse onset at -0.3 V versus the reversible hydrogen electrode (V-RHE) under simulated solar illumination. In particular, a plateau photocurrent density of 0.21 mA cm(-2) was achieved at a low potential of 0.4 V-RHE , which was 1.6-fold and more than 50-fold higher than a two-dimensional macroporous (2DM) CaTaO2N/GaN/Al2O3 photoanode and a conventional particle-based CaTaO2N/GaN/Al2O3 photoanode, respectively. The bicontinuous, interconnected pore structure within this 3DM film can improve charge carrier separation and collection by reducing the average diffusion distance for minority carriers toward the electrolyte. Optical measurements and simulations verified the enhanced sunlight harvesting in the 3DM photoanode, which was ascribed to the concentrated distribution of the electric field and multiple scattering. This study provides guidance for future synthesis of highly efficient semitransparent 3DM quaternary oxynitride-based photoanodes for a tandem PEC device.

  • Ingår i: Nanoscale. - : Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). - 2040-3364 .- 2040-3372. ; 13:2, s. 869-877
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Core/shell quantum dots (QDs) paired with semiconductor photocathodes for water reduction have rarely been implemented so far. We demonstrate the integration of ZnSe/CdS and CdS/ZnSe QDs with porous p-type NiO photocathodes for water reduction. The QDs demonstrate appreciable enhancement in water-reduction efficiency, as compared with the bare NiO. Despite their different structure, both QDs generate comparable photocurrent enhancement, yielding a 3.8- and 3.2-fold improvement for the ZnSe/CdS@NiO and CdS/ZnSe@NiO system, respectively. Unraveling the carrier kinetics at the interface of these hybrid photocathodes is therefore critical for the development of efficient photoelectrochemical (PEC) proton reduction. In addition to examining the carrier dynamics by the Mott–Schottky technique and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), we performed theoretical modelling for the distribution density of the carriers with respect to electron and hole wave functions. The electrons are found to be delocalized through the whole shell and can directly actuate the PEC-related process in the ZnSe/CdS QDs. The holes as the more localized carriers in the core have to tunnel through the shell before injecting into the hole transport layer (NiO). Our results emphasize the role of interfacial effects in core/shell QDs-based multi-heterojunction photocathodes.

  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Journal of Geophysical Research. - 0148-0227 .- 2156-2202. ; 115:11
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In collisionless magnetic reconnection, the in-plane Hall currents are carried mainly by the magnetized electrons. The in-plane Hall currents are directed toward the X line along the magnetic field lines just inside the separatrices and away from the X line along the separatrices. Such a current system leads to the quadrupole out-of-plane magnetic field with the peaks between the regions carrying the in-plane currents. Simultaneously, the electron flow toward the X line along the separatrices causes electron density depletions along the separatrices. In this paper, the features of separatrix regions in magnetic reconnection and the relations between the electron density depletions and the out-of-plane magnetic field are investigated with both two-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations and Cluster observations. We conclude that the electron density depletions are formed because of the magnetic mirror, and they are outside the peaks of the out-of-plane magnetic field. Such a theoretical prediction is confirmed by both simulations and observations.

    • S100 calcium binding protein A4 (S100A4) promotes extracellular signal transduction, intercellular adhesion, motility and mobility. Different extracts from Coix lachryma-jobi have been used for the treatment of various types of cancer in Asia. In our previous study, the polysaccharide fraction extact, CP1, induced cell apoptosis of non-small cell lung cancer cells. In the current study, CP1 inhibited migration and invasion of A549 cells in a scratch wound healing assay and matrigel invasion assay, respectively. Furthermore, reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and western blotting demonstrated that CP1 downregulated the gene and protein expression levels of SI00A4. In silico docking analysis demonstrated that polysaccharides may not interfere with dimerization, whereas, the affinity of polysaccharides for an S100A4-NMIIA pocket was margnially greater than at the dimerization sites. Thus, CP1 inhibited A549 cell migration and invasion potentially via downregulation of S100A4, and may also interact with the binding site of S100A4-NMIIA, which indicated that CP1 has potential as an alternative cancer chemotherapeutic by targeting S100A4.

    • N-14 magic-angle spinning (MAS) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra of diamagnetic LaTiO2N perovskite oxynitride and its paramagnetic counterpart CeTiO2N are presented. The latter, to the best of our knowledge, constitutes the first high-resolution N-14 MAS NMR spectrum collected from a paramagnetic solid material. The unpaired 4f-electrons in CeTiO2N do not induce a paramagnetic N-14 NMR shift. This is remarkable given the direct Ce-N contacts in the structure for which ab initio calculations predict substantial Ce -> N-14 contact shift interaction. The same effect is revealed with N-14 MAS NMR for SrWO2N (unpaired 5d-electrons).

  • Ingår i: Metrologia. - : IOP Publishing Ltd. - 0026-1394 .- 1681-7575. ; 57:1 A
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Liver plays a major role in metabolism and acts as a source of energy for the body by storing glycogen. With the growing interest and investigation in the biological effects in recent years, it is important and necessary to develop accurate and comparable analytical methods for elements in bio-samples. It has, however, been 10 years since the tissue sample (bovine liver) of CCQM-K49 key comparison. The purpose of CCQM-K145 is to ensure the comparable and traceable measurement results for essential and toxic elements such as P, S, Zn, Mn, Ni, Mo, Sr, Cr, Co, Pb, As and Hg in bovine liver among NMIs and other designated measurement bodies worldwide. The comparison was agreed by IAWG as 6th IAWG Benchmarking Exercise with Zn and Ni as exemplary elements at the meeting in Korea in the early October 2016. The results of CCQM-K145 are expected to cover the measurement capability and support CMCs claiming for inorganic elements in the similar biological tissue materials and food samples. 30 NMIs and DIs registered in CCQM-K145. With respect to the methodology, a variety of techniques such as IDMS, ICP-OES, ICP-MS(non-ID), AAS and NAA were adopted by the participants. For Zn, Ni, Sr, Pb and Hg measurements, most participants chose ID-ICP-MS method, which showed the better performance in terms of consistency and reliability of the measurement results. In aspect of the traceability for the measurement results in CCQM-K145, most participants used their own (in house) CRMs or other NMI's CRMs to guarantee trace to SI unit. Most participants used similar matrix CRMs for quality control or method validation. Base on different statistic way to calculate the reference mass fraction values and associated uncertainties for each measurand, removal of the suspected extreme values, and discussion at the IAWG meetings, the median values are proposed as the KCRV for Zn, Ni, Mn, Mo, Cr, Pb and Hg; the arithmetic mean values are proposed as the KCRV for P, S, Sr, Co and As. In general, the performances of the majority of CCQM-K145 participants are very good, illustrating their measurement capabilities for Zn, Ni, P, S, Mn, Mo, Sr, Cr, As, Co, Pb and Hg in a complex biological tissue matrix. Bovine liver contains many kinds of nutrients and microelements, it can be regarded as a typical representative material of biological tissue and food. In CCQM-K145, the analytes involved alkali metals and transition elements, metalloids/semi-metals and non metals with a range of mass fraction from mg/g to μg/kg. CCQM-K145 also tested the ability of NMIs/DIs to determine elements that were easy to be lost and polluted, and interfered significantly. The chemical pretreatment methods of samples used in the comparison is suitable for general food and biological matrix samples. A variety of measurement methods used in the comparison represent the main instrumental technology for elemental analysis. Therefore, for supporting CMC claim, CCQM-K145 is readily applicable to measurement of more elements in a wide range of biological materials (including liquids and solids) and meat products. • An Electron-Scale Current Sheet Without Bursty Reconnection Signatures Observed in the Near-Earth Tail
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Geophysical Research Letters. - : AMER GEOPHYSICAL UNION. - 0094-8276 .- 1944-8007. ; 45:10, s. 4542-4549
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Observations of a current sheet as thin as the electron scale are extremely rare in the near-Earth magnetotail. By measurement from the novel Magnetospheric Multiscale mission in the near-Earth magnetotail, we identified such an electron-scale current sheet and determined its detailed properties. The electron current sheet was bifurcated, with a half-thickness of nine electron inertial lengths, and was sandwiched between the Hall field. Because of the strong Hall electric field, the super-Alfvenic electron bulk flows were created mainly by the electric field drift, leading to the generation of the strong electron current. Inevitably, a bifurcated current sheet was formed since the Hall electric field was close to zero at the center of the current sheet. Inside the electron current sheet, the electrons were significantly heated while the ion temperature showed no change. The ions kept moving at a low speed, which was not affected by this electron current sheet. The energy dissipation was negligible inside the current sheet. The observations indicate that a thin current sheet, even as thin as electron scale, is not the sufficient condition for triggering bursty reconnection.

  • Observation of double layer in the separatrix region during magnetic reconnection
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Geophysical Research Letters. - 0094-8276 .- 1944-8007. ; 41:14, s. 4851-4858
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present in situ observation of double layer (DL) and associated electron measurement in the subspin time resolution in the separatrix region during reconnection for the first time. The DL is inferred to propagate away from the X line at a velocity of about ion acoustic speed and the parallel electric field carried by the DL can reach -20 mV/m. The electron displays a beam distribution inside the DL and streams toward the X line with a local electron Alfven velocity. A series of electron holes moving toward the X line are observed in the wake of the DL. The identification of multiple similar DLs indicates that they are persistently produced and therefore might play an important role in energy conversion during reconnection. The observation suggests that energy dissipation during reconnection can occur in any region where the DL can reach.

  • Dense matter with eXTP
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Science China Physics, Mechanics & Astronomy. - : Science Press. - 1674-7348 .- 1869-1927. ; 62:2
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this White Paper we present the potential of the Enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry (eXTP) mission for determining the nature of dense matter; neutron star cores host an extreme density regime which cannot be replicated in a terrestrial laboratory. The tightest statistical constraints on the dense matter equation of state will come from pulse profile modelling of accretion-powered pulsars, burst oscillation sources, and rotation-powered pulsars. Additional constraints will derive from spin measurements, burst spectra, and properties of the accretion flows in the vicinity of the neutron star. Under development by an international Consortium led by the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the eXTP mission is expected to be launched in the mid 2020s.

  • Atomic-Level Understanding for the Enhanced Generation of Hydrogen Peroxide by the Introduction of an Aryl Amino Group in Polymeric Carbon Nitrides
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: ACS Catalysis. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 2155-5435. ; 11:22, s. 14087-14101
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Heterogeneous catalysts are often “black boxes” due to the insufficient understanding of the detailed mechanisms at the catalytic sites. An atomic-level elucidation of the processes taking place in those regions is, thus, mandatory to produce robust and selective heterogeneous catalysts. We have improved the description of the whole reactive scenario for polymeric carbon nitrides (PCN) by combining atomic-level characterizations with magic-angle spinning (MAS) solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, classical reactive molecular dynamics (RMD) simulations, and quantum chemistry (QC) calculations. We disclose the structure–property relationships of an ad hoc modified PCN by inserting an aryl amino group that turned out to be very efficient for the production of H2O2. The main advancement of this work is the development of a difluoromethylene-substituted aryl amino PCN to generate H2O2 at a rate of 2.0 mM·h–1 under the irradiation of household blue LEDs and the identification of possible active catalytic sites with the aid of 15N and 19F MAS solid-state NMR without using any expensive labeling reagent. RMD simulations and QC calculations confirm and further extend the experimental descriptions by revealing the role and locations of the identified functionalities, namely, NH linkers, −NH2 terminal groups, and difluoromethylene units, reactants, and products.

  • Worldwide trends in diabetes since 1980: A pooled analysis of 751 population-based studies with 4.4 million participants
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: The Lancet. - : Elsevier B.V.. - 0140-6736 .- 1474-547X. ; 387:10027, s. 1513-1530
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: One of the global targets for non-communicable diseases is to halt, by 2025, the rise in the age standardised adult prevalence of diabetes at its 2010 levels. We aimed to estimate worldwide trends in diabetes, how likely it is for countries to achieve the global target, and how changes in prevalence, together with population growth and ageing, are aff ecting the number of adults with diabetes. Methods: We pooled data from population-based studies that had collected data on diabetes through measurement of its biomarkers. We used a Bayesian hierarchical model to estimate trends in diabetes prevalence-defined as fasting plasma glucose of 7.0 mmol/L or higher, or history of diagnosis with diabetes, or use of insulin or oral hypoglycaemic drugs-in 200 countries and territories in 21 regions, by sex and from 1980 to 2014. We also calculated the posterior probability of meeting the global diabetes target if post-2000 trends continue.Findings: We used data from 751 studies including 4372000 adults from 146 of the 200 countries we make estimates for. Global age-standardised diabetes prevalence increased from 4.3% (95% credible interval 2.4-17.0) in 1980 to 9.0% (7.2-11.1) in 2014 in men, and from 5.0% (2.9-7.9) to 7.9% (6.4-9.7) in women. The number of adults with diabetes in the world increased from 108 million in 1980 to 422 million in 2014 (28.5% due to the rise in prevalence, 39.7% due to population growth and ageing, and 31.8% due to interaction of these two factors). Age-standardised adult diabetes prevalence in 2014 was lowest in northwestern Europe, and highest in Polynesia and Micronesia, at nearly 25%, followed by Melanesia and the Middle East and north Africa. Between 1980 and 2014 there was little change in age-standardised diabetes prevalence in adult women in continental western Europe, although crude prevalence rose because of ageing of the population. By contrast, age-standardised adult prevalence rose by 15 percentage points in men and women in Polynesia and Micronesia. In 2014, American Samoa had the highest national prevalence of diabetes (>30% in both sexes), with age-standardised adult prevalence also higher than 25% in some other islands in Polynesia and Micronesia. If post-2000 trends continue, the probability of meeting the global target of halting the rise in the prevalence of diabetes by 2025 at the 2010 level worldwide is lower than 1% for men and is 1% for women. Only nine countries for men and 29 countries for women, mostly in western Europe, have a 50% or higher probability of meeting the global target.Interpretation: Since 1980, age-standardised diabetes prevalence in adults has increased, or at best remained unchanged, in every country. Together with population growth and ageing, this rise has led to a near quadrupling of the number of adults with diabetes worldwide. The burden of diabetes, both in terms of prevalence and number of adults aff ected, has increased faster in low-income and middle-income countries than in high-income countries.
