  • Initial oxidation of ferritic interconnect steel, effect due to a thin ceria coating
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: European Fuel Cell Forum 2012 - Proceedings (memory stick).
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Today there exist many ferritic stainless steel grades with a chemical composition speciallydesigned to be used as interconnects in solid oxide fuel cell applications in a temperatureinterval of 650-850°C. The steels have good high temperature mechanical properties andcorrosion resistance as well as good electron conductivity in the formed chromium oxidescale. One way to substantially decrease the high temperature degradation of the interconnectsteel i.e. improve properties such as increased surface conductivity and decreasedoxidation and chromium evaporation is to coat the interconnect steel with suitablecoatings. Today it is well known that a thin cobalt coating hinders chromium evaporationand a ceria coating lowers the oxidation rate at high temperature. Thus, by coating theinterconnect steel the properties are improved to an extent that it should be possible to usea cheaper standard steel, e.g. AISI 441, as substrate for the coatings. In this study the ferritic stainless steel alloys Sandvik Sanergy HT and AISI 441 is oxidizedin laboratory air at temperatures at 750°C, 800°C and 850°C. The results show that a welladhered oxide scale of a complex layered structure is formed with significant amounts ofMn, Fe, Cr and Ti in the oxide scale. A Ce coating significantly reduces the growth rate ofthe oxide scale. The lower Cr content in the AISI 441 alloy does not affect the initial hightemperature corrosion properties when coated with Ce. Also, the results demonstrate theusefulness of ToF-SIMS depth profiling for characterisation of the initial stages of oxidationof SOFC materials.

  • Hepatitis A outbreak linked to imported frozen strawberries by sequencing, Sweden and Austria, June to September 2018
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Eurosurveillance. - : European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control. - 1025-496X .- 1560-7917. ; 23:41
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Between June-September 2018, 20 hepatitis A cases were notified in six counties in Sweden. Combined epidemiological and microbiological investigations identified imported frozen strawberries produced in Poland as the source of the outbreak. Sequence analysis confirmed the outbreak strain IB in the strawberries with 100 % identity and the respective batch was withdrawn. Sharing the sequence information internationally led to the identification of 14 additional cases in Austria, linked to strawberries from the same producer.

  • Characterisation of a transcriptome to find sequence differences between two differentially migrating subspecies of the willow warbler Phylloscopus trochilus.
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: BMC Genomics. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1471-2164. ; 14
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • BACKGROUND: Animal migration requires adaptations in morphological, physiological and behavioural traits. Several of these traits have been shown to possess a strong heritable component in birds, but little is known about their genetic architecture. Here we used 454 sequencing of brain-derived transcriptomes from two differentially migrating subspecies of the willow warbler Phylloscopus trochilus to detect genes potentially underlying traits associated with migration.RESULTS: The transcriptome sequencing resulted in 1.8 million reads following filtering steps. Most of the reads (84%) were successfully mapped to the genome of the zebra finch Taeniopygia gutatta. The mapped reads were situated within at least 12,101 predicted zebra finch genes, with the greatest sequencing depth in exons. Reads that were mapped to intergenic regions were generally located close to predicted genes and possibly located in uncharacterized untranslated regions (UTRs). Out of 85,000 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) with a minimum sequencing depth of eight reads from each of two subspecies-specific pools, only 55 showed high differentiation, confirming previous studies showing that most of the genetic variation is shared between the subspecies. Validation of a subset of the most highly differentiated SNPs using Sanger sequencing demonstrated that several of them also were differentiated between an independent set of individuals of each subspecies. These SNPs were clustered in two chromosome regions that are likely to be influenced by divergent selection between the subspecies and that could potentially be associated with adaptations to their different migratory strategies.CONCLUSIONS: Our study represents the first large-scale sequencing analysis aiming at detecting genes underlying migratory phenotypes in birds and provides new candidates for genes potentially involved in migration.

  • Poly(ethylene glycol)-Based Thiol-ene Hydrogel Coatings-Curing Chemistry, Aqueous Stability, and Potential Marine Antifouling Applications
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 1944-8244 .- 1944-8252. ; 2:3, s. 903-912
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Photocured thiol-ene hydrogel coatings based on poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) were investigated for marine antifouling purposes. By varying the PEG length, vinylic end-group, and thiol cross-linker, a library of hydrogel coatings with different structural composition was efficiently accomplished, with or without ester linkages. The thiol-methacrylate and thiol-allyl systems were evaluated with respect to curing, degradation, as well as antifouling properties. Moth acrylate-based systems exhibited homopolymerization, whereas allyl-based systems reacted more selectively through thiol-ene couplings reaction. The ester-free hydrogels elucidated higher hydrolytic stability whereas longer PEG chains accelerated the degradation process. The antifouling properties were evaluated by protein adsorption With Bovine serum albumin (BSA) and bioassays with the marine bacteria, Cobetia marina, and the marine diatom, Amphora coffeaeformis; in all tests, longer PEG lengths improved the antifouling properties.
