  • Evidence for pseudospin-chiral quartet bands in the presence of octupole correlations
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Physics Letters B. - : ELSEVIER. - 0370-2693 .- 1873-2445. ; 807
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Three nearly degenerate pairs of doublet bands are identified in Ba-131. Two of them, with positive-parity, are interpreted as pseudospin-chiral quartet bands. This is the first time that a complete set of chiral doublet bands built on the pseudospin partners pi(d(5/2), g(7/2)) is observed. The chiral bands with opposite parity built on 3-quasiparticle configurations are directly connected by many E1 transitions, without involving an intermediary non-chiral configuration. The observed band structures in Ba-131 have been investigated by using the reflection-asymmetric particle rotor model. The energies and the electromagnetic transition ratios of the three pairs of doublet bands observed in Ba-131 are reproduced and they are interpreted as chiral doublet bands with three-quasiparticle configurations. It is the first time that multiple chiral bands are observed in the presence of enhanced octupole correlations and pseudospin symmetry.

  • Learn2Reg: comprehensive multi-task medical image registration challenge, dataset and evaluation in the era of deep learning
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 0278-0062 .- 1558-254X. ; 42:3, s. 697-712
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Image registration is a fundamental medical image analysis task, and a wide variety of approaches have been proposed. However, only a few studies have comprehensively compared medical image registration approaches on a wide range of clinically relevant tasks. This limits the development of registration methods, the adoption of research advances into practice, and a fair benchmark across competing approaches. The Learn2Reg challenge addresses these limitations by providing a multi-task medical image registration data set for comprehensive characterisation of deformable registration algorithms. A continuous evaluation will be possible at https:// learn2reg.grand-challenge.org. Learn2Reg covers a wide range of anatomies (brain, abdomen, and thorax), modalities (ultrasound, CT, MR), availability of annotations, as well as intra- and inter-patient registration evaluation. We established an easily accessible framework for training and validation of 3D registration methods, which enabled the compilation of results of over 65 individual method submissions from more than 20 unique teams. We used a complementary set of metrics, including robustness, accuracy, plausibility, and runtime, enabling unique insight into the current state-of-the-art of medical image registration. This paper describes datasets, tasks, evaluation methods and results of the challenge, as well as results of further analysis of transferability to new datasets, the importance of label supervision, and resulting bias. While no single approach worked best across all tasks, many methodological aspects could be identified that push the performance of medical image registration to new state-of-the-art performance. Furthermore, we demystified the common belief that conventional registration methods have to be much slower than deep-learning-based methods.

  • Boosting the performance of Zn-air cells by spinel catalysts with bimodal pore structure and gill filament configuration
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Journal of Alloys and Compounds. - : Elsevier BV. - 0925-8388 .- 1873-4669. ; 936
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Spinel oxides with specific morphology are importantly multifunctional materials for various applications. Here we report various morphological spinel oxides with one and two-modal pore size structures. The surface microstructure, phase composition, specific surface areas and electrocatalytic OER/ORR activities are examined. The results reveal that the bicomponent (NiCo2O4 and Co3O4) spinel exhibits a bimodal pore size distribution, high specific surface area, good OER activity (an overpotential of 313 mV at 10 mA cm−2Geo) and low Tafel slope of 73.1 mV dec−1. The Co3O4 component presents a perforated sheet morphology similar to an ancient window configuration with regular hole patterns, which benefits for mass transfer and O2 bubble detachment. By comparison, the single-component NiCo2O4 spinel having the morphology of more open self-assembled nanoneedle spheres or nanorod clusters, similar to the configuration of fish gill filaments, shows better ORR activities. The morphology, similar to the fish gills, can readily capture dissolved oxygen molecules from the film electrolyte at the three-phase interface and improve ORR performance. In addition, calcination temperatures also significantly affect pore structure, surface areas, and electrocatalytic activities. Finally, small Lab size Zn-air cells are assembled using thin flexible air electrodes with the self-assembled nanoneedle NiCo2O4 catalysts. Electrochemical charging-discharging performance and cycling durability are evaluated.

  • Involvement of the PI3K/Akt/NF- B Signaling Pathway in the Attenuation of Severe Acute Pancreatitis-Associated Acute Lung Injury by Sedum sarmentosum Bunge Extract
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: BioMed Research International. - : Hindawi Limited. - 2314-6133 .- 2314-6141. ; 2017
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Sedum sarmentosum Bunge possesses excellent anti-inflammatory properties and was used in the treatment of inflammatory diseases. The aim of the present study was to investigate the efficiency of Sedum sarmentosum Bunge extract (SSBE) on severe acute pancreatitis-associated (SAP-associated) acute lung injury (ALI) in rats and to explore the underlying mechanisms. Here, we used a sodium taurocholate-induced SAP rat model to determine the role of SSBE in ALI. During the course of pancreatitis, the expressions of phosphorylated phosphoinositide 3-kinases (PI3K)/protein kinase B (Akt) and nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-B) p65 in the lungs were upregulated. Meanwhile, a parallel increase in the levels of interleukin-1β (IL-1β), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and tumor necrosis factor- (TNF-) in the lungs was observed after the induction of SAP. Treatment with SSBE significantly reduced the expression of p-Akt and p-p65 in the lungs and attenuated the severity of SAP-associated ALI compared to the SAP group at 12 h and 24 h. In summary, this study showed that SSBE has beneficial effects on SAP-associated ALI, probably through the PI3-K/Akt signaling pathways by suppressing the NF-B activities.

  • Diffusion layer growth at Zn/Cu interface under uniform and gradient high magnetic fields
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Materials Science & Engineering. - : Elsevier BV. - 0921-5093 .- 1873-4936. ; 495:1-2, s. 244-248
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • As a common phenomenon occurring in many material processes, diffusion may induce significant changes in composition and microstructure near the interface. In the present study, liquid/solid (Zn/Cu) interface diffusion experiments in high magnetic fields (up to 12 T) were conducted and the thickness changes of diffusion layer under different magnetic field conditions were examined. It was found that there were no noticeable effects of high magnetic fields on the formation of intermetallic phases at the interface. However, the magnetic flux density exerted a non-linear influence on the diffusion layer thickness. This phenomenon should be attributed to the effect of magnetic fields suppressing natural convection and inducing thermo-electromagnetic convection. In addition, the diffusion of Zn into Cu could be retarded by a magnetic field gradient. These results indicate that both the strength and the gradient of high magnetic fields can be used to control the diffusion behavior.

  • Evolution from γ -soft to stable triaxiality in Nd 136 as a prerequisite of chirality
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C. - : American Physical Society. - 2469-9985 .- 2469-9993. ; 98:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The level structure of Nd136 has been investigated using the Mo100(Ar40,4n) reaction and the JUROGAM II+RITU+GREAT setup. The level scheme has been extended significantly. Many new bands have been identified both at low and high spin, among which are five nearly degenerate bands interpreted as chiral partners. Excitation energies, spins, and parities of the previously known bands are revised and firmly established, and some previously known bands have been revised. Configurations are assigned to the observed bands based on cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky calculations. The band structure of Nd136 is now clarified and the various types of single-particle and collective excitations are well understood.

  • In situ polymerization design of a quasi-solid electrolyte enhanced by NMP additive for lithium metal batteries
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Energy Storage Materials. - : Elsevier B.V.. - 2405-8289 .- 2405-8297. ; 69
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs) are considered one promising candidate for lithium metal batteries due to their high flexibility, low cost, and roll-to-roll scalability. However, conventional SPEs prepared via ex situ methods are confronted with challenges such as poor contact and high resistance at the electrode|SPE interface, as well as low ionic conductivity at room temperature. In this study, we developed a quasi-solid electrolyte (QSE) using an in situ polymerization approach, employing butyl acrylate as the monomer and incorporating NMP as an additive. Spectroscopic investigations and DFT calculations revealed that NMP tends to form an overleaf-structured [Li(NMP)3][TFSI] complex with LiTFSI, promoting lithium salt dissociation. Owing to this advantage, the QSE exhibits high room-temperature ionic conductivity (6.94 × 10−4 S cm−1) and an extensive electrochemical stability window (5.01 V vs. Li+/Li). Furthermore, the in situ polymerization method facilitates full contact at the interface, enhancing the interfacial stability and reducing the interface resistance, thus resulting in stable cycling of Li|Built-in QSE|Li symmetric cell for 1100 h at 0.1 mA cm−2. The assembled LiFePO4|Built-in QSE|Li cell also demonstrates excellent rate and long-term cycling performance. Our findings offer valuable insights into the interaction between organic additives and lithium salts and present a novel strategy for the development of polymer electrolytes.

  • ProTstab - Predictor for cellular protein stability
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: BMC Genomics. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1471-2164. ; 20:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Stability is one of the most fundamental intrinsic characteristics of proteins and can be determined with various methods. Characterization of protein properties does not keep pace with increase in new sequence data and therefore even basic properties are not known for far majority of identified proteins. There have been some attempts to develop predictors for protein stabilities; however, they have suffered from small numbers of known examples. Results: We took benefit of results from a recently developed cellular stability method, which is based on limited proteolysis and mass spectrometry, and developed a machine learning method using gradient boosting of regression trees. ProTstab method has high performance and is well suited for large scale prediction of protein stabilities. Conclusions: The Pearson's correlation coefficient was 0.793 in 10-fold cross validation and 0.763 in independent blind test. The corresponding values for mean absolute error are 0.024 and 0.036, respectively. Comparison with a previously published method indicated ProTstab to have superior performance. We used the method to predict stabilities of all the remaining proteins in the entire human proteome and then correlated the predicted stabilities to protein chain lengths of isoforms and to localizations of proteins.
