• Matematikkundervisning
• 2013
• Book (other academic/artistic)abstract

• Klassrumsdialog i matematikundervisningen : matematiska samtal i helklass i grundskolan
• 2017
• Reports (other academic/artistic)abstract
Sökningarna resulterade i 10 528 studier.

• The relationship between intelligence and global adaptive functioning in young people with or without neurodevelopmental disorders
• 2021
• In: Psychiatry Research. - : Elsevier BV. - 0165-1781 .- 1872-7123. ; 303
• Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
• Previous studies have shown an association between IQ and adaptive global functioning, i.e. how well a person is functioning in different domains of life. However, it is unclear to what extent such an association applies in children with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs). The study group consisted of 550 population-screened children assessed with the K-SADS, WISC-IV, and the C-GAS. Approximately half of the sample had been diagnosed with one or several NDDs (ADHD, autism, language disorder and tic disorder). A factorial ANOVA with IQ level and the presence of NDD was conducted, with C-GAS score as the dependent variable. Results revealed a significant interaction effect between IQ-group and NDD-status. In the non-NDD group (49% girls), higher IQ scores were clearly linked with better global adaptive functioning. Among children with NDDs (35% girls), however, higher IQ scores were not clearly associated with better functioning. Thus, the association between IQ and adaptive functioning were found to differ depending on the presence of NDD. These results have implications for the interpretation of IQ test results in neurodevelopmental assessments and point towards the importance of providing support based on an assessment of needs and functioning rather than scores from IQ tests.

• Didactic methods of integrating Programming in Mathematics in primary school : findings from a national project in Sweden
• 2020
• In: SIGCSE '20. - New York, NY, USA : Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). - 9781450367936 ; , s. 261-267
• Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
• The association between mathematics and programming in an educational context is not new. Today, programming has been introduced into curricula worldwide for younger children. In the Swedish case, primary school teachers are expected to integrate programming in mathematics education from autumn 2018. However, Swedish teachers' knowledge of programming and programming didactics is limited. Meanwhile, there is little research on K-9 programming education. This has led to the dilemma that the mathematics teachers have limited support in didactic knowledge and good examples. This study reports on a teacher professional development project in programming. More specifically, teachers used Lesson Study to plan, execute, and evaluate lessons that integrated programming into various school subjects in elementary school. This study analyzed the didactic strategies developed in 10 lesson studies, as well as mapped the opportunities and challenges of pupils' learning in the mathematics subject. The result was the identification of three didactic strategies, which were analog programming, robot programming and block programming, as well as 11 didactic methods applied within these strategies. The paper contributes with examples of the didactic methods that teachers have developed and evaluated using lesson study. The paper further provides insights on how teachers can take progression into account by applying the three didactic strategies. At last but not least, the study shows a great need for teachers to develop computational thinking abilities.

• Students perceptions of programming in primary school
• 2019
• In: WiPSCE'19. - New York, NY, USA : Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). - 9781450377041 ; , s. 1-5
• Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
• Since autumn 2018, teachers throughout Sweden are obliged to relate to programming in one way or another in the teaching, especially in the subject of mathematics and technology education. Although teachers should formally work with programming teaching from the autumn of 2018, programming has been taught in primary school for several years. While there is some research on younger students, most of the research has almost exclusively focused on didactic approaches and strategies used by teachers, educational values and practices that accompany programming teaching, and views of teachers regarding programming teaching. What is still missing is research that highlights how younger students experience these new practices and how they primarily perceive programming in traditional school subjects, such as mathematics. Thus, this paper reports on a thematic analysis of younger students' (n=44) perceptions of programming; students who have been introduced to and been taught programming in mathematics in grade 5.

• Abstract L1 speech production is often interrupted by hesitations revealed through a variety of phenomena ranging from silent pauses to comments. Most of these interruptions are caused by the action of a control system, a “monitor“, which checks our speech internally while it is produced or after the production has reached the articulatory level. Speech production is checked against an internal model of lexical and grammatical correctness. If the demands of the monitor are not met, a repair may take place so that the speaker’s production reaches the expected level of correctness. It would seem that the result of constant interruptions, followed by repairs, would bring disorder into our speech but, in most cases, the listener is not disturbed by these interruptions, since his perception system brings order and re-establishes the linearity of the propositional content. The speech of L2 learners is controlled during and after production. Even if the monitor follows the same pattern of work when controlling L2 production, the repair is not necessarily done in a similar way because the learner’s internal grammar and lexicon are not complete and cannot be consulted as quickly as L1 lexicon and grammar. L2 learners rely on a certain amount of acquired knowledge but they also need to be given the time to refer to learned rules and patterns because the retrieval of these has not yet been automaticized. As teachers, we often resent hesitations as disturbing and as an indication of the learner’s incapacity to produce correct speech. In this study, we observe the L2 speech production of learners of French and their behaviour when meeting linguistic problems. The study is concentrated on repetitions and recasts produced when the learner hesitates and shows signs of an effort to retrieve learned knowledge. These repetitions and recasts are presented as different hypotheses put forward by the learner in his/her attempts to reach a solution to a linguistic problem. They show the L2 speech production as a step-by-step process. The focus here is on repetitions and recasts in connection with French -ment-adverbs.

• Digitalized national tests in mathematics : a way of increasing and securing equity?
• 2019
• In: Proceedings of the TenthInternational Mathematics Educationand Society Conference. - Hyderabad, India : International Mathematics Education and Society Co.
• Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
• On one hand, the Swedish governing discourse on equity in the context of digitizing education portrays modernization, progress and democracy as a foundation in the equity work. On the other hand, in the context of digitized tests, equity is rather framed within a neoliberal logic while related to all individuals’ possibilities of choosing a ‘good life’, and to compete on equal terms. Not all disadvantaged groups are the target, though. It is mainly boys who are supposed be given better grades, and, in addition, students with disabilities who are supposed to (as far as possible) be able to have the opportunity to show their knowledge during the test. Language or socioeconomically diverse settings are not mentioned with regard to digitized national tests.

• The governing of three researchers' technologies of the self
• 2018
• In: The Mathematics Enthusiast. - : Information Age Publishing. - 1551-3440. ; 15:1-2, s. 278-302
• Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
• This article sheds light on a number of discursive conditions relating to being researchers in mathematics education and with an interest in diversity. The data derived from a self-reflective trialogue (dialogue of three people) between the three authors, three researchers. Two of Foucault’s governing technologies were adopted: technologies of power and technologies of the self. By exploring regularities between these in our trialogue we construed formations of governing technologies in relation to subjectification and subjectivation. We uncovered five formations: “Tensions between mathematics education (ME) researchers from different traditions through processes of normalization and othering”, “Limiting space between ME researchers within the socio- political through dismissal of knowledge”, “The socio-political tradition of a need for theory connects theory and ME researcher's’ self-cultivation”, “The researchers’ processes of self-cultivation connect theory and compassionate research practices”. and “Research on policy statements as resistance towards technologies of domination in society”.

• The influence of the local structure of Fe(III) on the photocatalytic activity of doped TiO2 photocatalysts-An EXAFS, XPS and Mossbauer spectroscopic study
• 2011
• In: Applied Catalysis B: Environmental. - : Elsevier BV. - 0926-3373. ; 103:1-2, s. 232-239
• Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
• Fe(III)-doped TiO2 based heterogeneous photocatalysts were prepared by the sol-gel technique (S samples) or flame hydrolysis (F samples). In photocatalytic phenol decomposition, the undoped F-sample performed much better, than the undoped S one. However, for the S samples, photocatalytic activity first increased with the increasing Fe(III) concentration, and then passed through a maximum, while Fe(III)-doping in F samples significantly decreased it, even at the smallest dopant level. Since the same dopant caused opposite photocatalytic effects in the two series, their structure was systematically compared to identify the underlying chemical and/or physical reasons. The photocatalysts were first characterized by AAS, DRS, XRD and TEM methods and it has been shown that the differences in the photocatalytic activity cannot be explained by the minor variations in the bulk structural properties of TiO2. Mossbauer and XP spectroscopic measurements performed on representative samples qualitatively proved that the local structure of Fe(III) is different in the two series. To quantify these effects, Fe-K edge X-ray absorption measurements were performed. From the pre-edge and XANES region it was learnt that Fe(III) was present in a distorted octahedral environment in both series, however, the extent of distortion is much more significant within the S than within the F one. Information obtained from the EXAFS region indicated that the structure of Fe2O3 was much more ordered in the F-series then in the S one and vacancies were more abundant in the S than in the F series. Moreover, the geometry around Fe(III) systematically varied within the S-series, which could explain, why photocatalytic activity passed through a maximum with the increasing Fe(III) concentration in these samples. • 2022
• In: Frontiers in Medicine. - Lausanne, Switzerland : Frontiers Media SA. - 2296-858X. ; 9, s. 1-9
• Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
• Background: Whole-genome sequencing (WGS) and whole-transcriptome sequencing (WTS), with the ability to provide comprehensive genomic information, have become the focal point of research interest as novel techniques that can support precision diagnostics in routine clinical care of patients with various cancer types, including hematological malignancies. This national multi-center study, led by Genomic Medicine Sweden, aims to evaluate whether combined application of WGS and WTS (WGTS) is technically feasible and can be implemented as an efficient diagnostic tool in patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). In addition to clinical impact assessment, a health-economic evaluation of such strategy will be performed. Methods and Analysis: The study comprises four phases (i.e., retrospective, prospective, real-time validation, and follow-up) including approximately 700 adult and pediatric Swedish AML and ALL patients. Results of WGS for tumor (90×) and normal/germline (30×) samples as well as WTS for tumors only will be compared to current standard of care diagnostics. Primary study endpoints are diagnostic efficiency and improved diagnostic yield. Secondary endpoints are technical and clinical feasibility for routine implementation, clinical utility, and health-economic impact. Discussion: Data from this national multi-center study will be used to evaluate clinical performance of the integrated WGTS diagnostic workflow compared with standard of care. The study will also elucidate clinical and health-economic impacts of a combined WGTS strategy when implemented in routine clinical care. • 2015
• In: Teaching and Learning Mathematics: Resources and Obstacles. - : University of Palermo, Italy. ; , s. 567-572
• Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
• To investigate one equity aspect regarding mathematics learning in “a school for all” we have investigated how teachers comment on their arrangements for Swedish second language learners (SLL) to succeed on the National Test in mathematics in grade 5 (students are 11–12 years old). With data from a teacher survey and competency profiles for students in grade 5 we have performed a thematic analysis. The findings indicate that there were schools where the teachers worked in line with the instructions of the test and, therefore, adapted the administration of the test to enable SSL students better opportunities to display knowing in mathematics. This is coherent with a view expressed in policy documents. There were also schools where the teachers did not write about how to adapt the test administration but rather justified the exclusion of SLL students from the test or explained SSL students’ poor results due to language issues. In these schools the SSL students were not invited to display mathematics. We discuss these findings from an institutional perspective.

• In mathematics classrooms as well as in research in mathematics education it is possible to identify various power relations. Here we draw attention to power relations between researcher and teacher during classroom research and also power relations in implicit and explicit assessment acts in communications between teacher and student in the mathematics classroom. We describe a basis for a planned action research project within a critical mathematics education approach. We are drawing on a model by Skovsmose and Borba, and adding a Foucaultian concept of discourse. We include tentative analytical tools as well as methodological considerations.

• In: Utbildning och lärande. - 1653-0594. ; 17:4, s. 31-51
• Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
• In this article, we show empirically how preschool childrens’ creative, physical, and digital leaps, provide new perspectives concerning childrens’ engagement in ecology related questions in the domain of Sustainability Education. The metamorphosis of insects is explored by children digitally, embodied and 'hands-on', and the children move through the digital and analogue interfaces. Childrens’ embodied explorations through instant encounters with nature has an obvious place where the digital world and nature become intersected forming a whole. We introduce a transduction chain, a didactic design-theoretic analysis tool, which supports teachers and researchers to get to hold of childrens’ digital and analogue meaning-making sign use. We draw attention to the preschool children's contribution in the area, which is made visible through transduction processes. We do not yet have the answers to the complex questions of sustainability, implying the need of all citizens’ participation and contributions. In anthropocene, it is also important to strengthen agency processes by paying attention to children's own course of actions and proposals. In light of this study, preschool teachers need to provide rich opportunities where children can explore and process what is happening around them.

• Book chapter (peer-reviewed)abstract
• Word problems in mathematics can present challenges for multilingual students. Previous research shows that the language and cultural contexts of word problems are major obstacles for many students. This study advances the research by considering the work with illustrated word problems as a social praxis. We specifically ask what social, cultural and linguistic experiences multilingual students mobilise and create when working with illustrated word problems. Data were collected from eight multilingual students in fourth grade. The students were given word problems to solve individually. The data were qualitatively analysed based on a four-fold structure of social praxis as a framework. Findings reveal that word problems will always mobilise exclusion. The study concludes that when working with illustrated word problems teachers need to recognise this condition and balance the ways of working with word problems. Policies need not only to promote linguistic and cultural diversity explicitly. They could open real possibilities for policy enactment where the linguistic and cultural differences embedded in illustrated mathematical word problems are discussed and negotiated.

• 2018
• In: Psycho-Oncology. - : John Wiley & Sons. - 1057-9249 .- 1099-1611. ; 27:7, s. 1854-1860
• Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
• OBJECTIVE: To investigate the risk of psychiatric disorders among children of parents with cancer in a nationwide population-based setting.METHODS: Based on Swedish national registers, the study included 101,339 children with parental cancer diagnosed either during pregnancy (N=1,047) or after birth (N=100,292) that were born during 1983-2000. For each exposed child, we randomly selected 10 unexposed children from the general population after individual matching by year of birth and sex. The matched cohort was followed during 2001-2010. Clinical diagnoses of psychiatric disorders and use of prescribed psychiatric medications were identified for all children. Cox regression and logistic regression were used to evaluate the associations of parental cancer with psychiatric disorder diagnosis and psychiatric medication use respectively.RESULTS: Parental cancer during pregnancy was not associated with the risk of psychiatric disorders overall, although paternal cancer during pregnancy was associated with a higher risk of psychiatric medication use among females. Parental cancer after birth was associated with higher risks of psychiatric disorder diagnoses, particularly stress reaction and adjustment disorders (males:hazard ratio[HR]:1.24, 95% confidence interval[CI]:1.08-1.43; females:HR:1.27, 95%CI:1.14-1.41), and use of psychiatric medication (males:odds ratio[OR]:1.09, 95%CI:1.04-1.13;females:OR:1.14, 95%CI:1.10-1.18). The positive associations were stronger for parental cancer with poor expected survival and for parental death after cancer diagnosis.CONCLUSIONS: Parental cancer, primarily the life-threatening cancer, might confer a higher risk of psychiatric disorders among children. These findings have potential implications for healthcare professionals in providing targeted support to children living with a parent with cancer.

• 2022
• In: Skolportens artikelserie Leda & Lära. - Stockholm : Skolporten. ; 3, s. 3-29
• Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract

• Many countries around the world have introduced programming curriculum at K-9 level. For a number of years, a lot of studies have surfaced demonstrating enactments of programming education, for instance through the use of visual programming languages as Scratch in different contexts. However, these studies have had a dominating focus on students of age 7 and older and there are few studies reporting on implementation of programming activities for younger children at preschool. This gap is addressed by this study that focus exclusively on learning of programming in a preschool class of six year olds. We have followed one teacher during six months conducting both classroom observations and interviews. In this paper we report on the didactical methods the teacher used when teaching programming through unplugged (analogue) means, with BlueBot robots, and through Scratch Jr. We end the paper by a discussion reflecting on challenges and lessons learned in relation to introducing programming for young children.

• 2021
• Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
• Young children often engage with commercial toys, many of which are now connected to a television or online video program that the children (and their caregivers) can watch. Children who are preverbal are often engaged (and targeted) with these toys, benefitting with a range of learnings and demonstrations of understandings. This paper uses 360-degree videos to explore the learnings and understandings demonstrated when a preverbal child engages with a commercial toy with an educator. The 360-degree video shows the preverbal child’s behaviours, both in response to the educator’s speech and actions and self-initiated. Children were observed engaged in events, made up of behaviours that were delineated into actions to help the researchers identify what mathematical exploration and understandings each child may demonstrate. Of particular interest is the mathematical understandings and exploration that the child may demonstrated via their actions.

Children were observed engaged in events, made up of behaviours that were delineated into actions to help the researchers identify what mathematical exploration and understandings each child may demonstrate. Of particular interest is the mathematical understandings and exploration that the child may demonstrated via their actions.

• Mathematics in Initial Teacher Education Programs in Sweden, Germany, and Australia
• 2019
• In: Mathematics Education Research: Impacting Practice. - Perth : Mathematics Education Research Group of Australasia. ; , s. 188-195
• Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
• International comparisons of student achievement in mathematics and their attitudes towards, confidence with and anxiety to mathematics have a long history. Likewise, detailed international comparisons of teacher education programs have also been conducted. However, the relationship between the teacher education programs and teacher anxiety for teaching mathematics have not been investigated. This paper is part of a larger research project investigating the relationship between teacher education programs and mathematical anxiety of its pre-service teachers. It reports on the initial comparison of the teacher education programs for primary teachers from a university in Sweden, Germany, and Australia, specifically the mathematics education addressed in the programs. The paper concludes with an outline of the future research.

• Organisering kring hot och risk
• 2007
• Book (other academic/artistic)abstract

• Trends in childhood and adolescent internalizing symptoms : results from Swedish population based twin cohorts
• 2019
• In: BMC Psychology. - : BioMed Central. - 2050-7283. ; 7
• Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
• BACKGROUND: Previous research has noted trends of increasing internalizing problems (e.g., symptoms of depression and anxiety), particularly amongst adolescent girls. Cross-cohort comparisons using identical assessments of both anxiety and depression in youth are lacking, however.METHODS: In this large twin study, we examined trends in internalizing symptoms in samples of 9 year old children and 15 year old adolescents, gathered from successive birth cohorts from 1998 to 2008 (age 9) and 1994-2001 (age 15). Assessments at age 9 were parent-rated, and at age 15 self- and parent-rated. We examined (i) the relation between birth cohorts and internalizing symptoms using linear regressions, and (ii) whether percentages of participants exceeding scale cut-off scores changed over time, using Cochrane Armitage Trend Tests.RESULTS: Among 9 year old children, a significantly increasing percentage of participants (both boys and girls) had scores above cut-off on anxiety symptoms, but not on depressive symptoms. At age 15, a significantly increasing percentage of participants (both boys and girls) had scores above cut-off particularly on self-reported internalizing symptoms. On parent-reported internalizing symptoms, only girls demonstrated a corresponding trend.CONCLUSION: In line with previous studies, we found small changes over sequential birth cohorts in frequencies of depression and anxiety symptoms in children. Further, these changes were not exclusive to girls.

• 2021. - 1
• Book (pop. science, debate, etc.)abstract

• Preoperative preparation of eye with chlorhexidine solution significantly reduces bacterial load prior to 23-gauge vitrectomy in Swedish health care
• 2018
• In: BMC Ophthalmology. - : BioMed Central (BMC). - 1471-2415. ; 18
• Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
• Background: Bacteria in the conjunctiva present a potential risk of vitreous cavity infection during 23-gauge pars plana vitrectomy (PPV). Current preoperative procedures used in Sweden include irrigation with chlorhexidine solution (CHX) 0.05% only and no iodine solutions. We evaluated the bacterial diversity and load before and after this single antibacterial measure. Methods: In a prospective, consecutive cohort we investigated bacterial growth in samples from 40 eyes in 39 consecutive individuals subjected to vitrectomy. A conjunctival specimen was collected from each preoperative patient before and after irrigating of eye with CHX, 0.05% solution. Iodine was not used during any part of the surgery. One drop of chloramphenicol was administered prior to surgery. Samples from vitreous cavity were collected at the beginning and end of vitrectomy. All conjunctival specimens were cultured for different species and quantified using colony forming units (CFU).Results: There was a significant 82% reduction in the total number of CFUs for all bacteria in all eyes (P < 0.0001), and 90% reduction for coagulase negative staphylococci (CoNS) alone (P = 0.0002). The number of eyes with positive bacterial growth in conjunctival samples decreased from 33 to 18 after irrigation with CHX (P = 0.0023). The most common bacteria prior to surgery were CoNS (70%), Propionibacterium acnes (55%) and Corynebacterium species (36%). No case of post-vitrectomy endophthalmitis was reported during mean follow-up time, which was 4.6 +/- 2.3 (range; 1.5 to 9) months. Conclusions: Patients undergoing PPV harbored bacteria in conjunctiva capable of causing post-vitrectomy endophthalmitis. Preoperative preparation with CHX significantly reduced the bacterial load in the conjunctival samples subsequently leading to very low inoculation rates in recovered vitreous samples. Thus, CHX used as a single disinfectant agent might be an effective preoperative procedure for eye surgery in Sweden. This is a relatively small study but the results could be a reference for other intraocular surgeries.

• Teachers’ Knowledge about Language in Mathematics Professional Development Courses : From an Intended Curriculum to a Curriculum in Action
• 2017
• In: Eurasia Journal of Mathematics, Science and Technology Education. - : Modestum Publishing Ltd. - 1305-8223. ; 17:7b, s. 4087-4114
• Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
• Explicit language objectives are included in the Swedish national curriculum for mathematics. The curriculum states that students should be given opportunities to develop the ability to formulate problems, use and analyse mathematical concepts and relationships between concepts, show and follow mathematical reasoning, and use mathematical expressions in discussions. Teachers’ competence forms a crucial link to bring an intended curriculum to a curriculum in action. This article investigates a professional development program, ‘Language in Mathematics’, within a national program for mathematics teachers in Sweden that aims at implementing the national curriculum into practice. Two specific aspects are examined: the selection of theoretical notions on language and mathematics and the choice of activities to relate selected theory to practice. From this examination, research on teacher learning in connection to professional development is proposed, which can contribute to a better understanding of teachers’ interpretation of integrated approaches to language and mathematics across national contexts.

• Visby Innerstad : En användningsplan
• 1973
• Reports (pop. science, debate, etc.)abstract

• 2022
• Book (other academic/artistic)abstract

• Objective: The Quantified Behavioral Test (QbTest) is a computerized diagnostic test for ADHD, used in clinical psychiatric care, but its validity may be questioned. We analyzed the QbTest's diagnostic validity and its relation to cognitive ability and psychosocial factors in an adolescent population with a high occurrence of neurodevelopmental disorders.Method: In total, 340 participants aged 15 years, completed the QbTest, along with questionnaires, clinical and intelligence quotient (IQ) assessments. Results: The clinical assessment resulted in 89 (26%) participants with ADHD. Area under curve (AUC) scores indicated a random to poor validity of the QbTest (AUC range = 0.48-0.64). QbTest scores of inattention and impulsivity correlated with IQ.Conclusion: The QbTest was insufficient as a diagnostic test for ADHD, and was not able to differentiate ADHD from other neurodevelopmental conditions. Clinicians should be aware of the dubious discriminating power of the QbTest.

The idea is that this residential quarter should be fully sustainable in ecological, economic and social terms. Since 2013, a number of pilot studies have been completed under the auspices of the Viva project framework thanks to financing from the Swedish Energy Agency. The various building frame alternatives that have been evaluated are precast concrete, cast in-situ concrete and solid wood, all proposed by leading commercial suppliers. The report includes a specific requirement for equivalent functions during the use phase of the building, B. An interpretation has been provided that investigates the building engineering aspects in detail, as well as an account of the results based on the social community requirements specified in Viva, durability, fire, noise and energy consumption in the Swedish National Board of Building, Planning and Housing building regulations (BBR), plus Riksbyggen’s own requirements, Sweden Green Building Council’s Environmental Building Gold (Miljöbyggnad Guld) and 100-year life cycle. Given that the alternatives have different long-term characteristics (and also that our knowledge of these characteristics itself varies), these functional requirements have been addressed by setting up different scenarios in accordance with the EPD standard EN 15978.Because Riksbyggen has specified a requirement for a 100-year life cycle, we have also opted for an analysis period of 100 years. The results show no significant differences between concrete and timber structures for the same functions during the life cycle, either for climate or for primary energy. The minor differences reported are accordingly less than the degree of uncertainty involved in the study. The available documentation on the composition of the relevant intumescent paint coating on solid wood frames differs from source to source, so it was not possible to fully allow for the significance of this. The LCA has not included functional changes in the building linked to load-bearing characteristics, noise, moisture, health or other problems that may result in increased maintenance and replacement. The concrete houses have been dimensioned for 100 years, for instance, in accordance with tried and tested standards and experience. The solid wood house is not dimensioned in the same way, and this has led to us having to assume various scenarios. The results also show the following: • The uncertainties involved in comparing different structures and alternative solutions are very significant. The results are affected by factors such as life cycle, the functional requirements taken into consideration, transportation, design and structural details, etc. • Variations in the built items and a considerable degree of uncertainty in the assumptions make it difficult to obtain significant results on comparisons. Only actual construction projects with known specific data, declared from a life cycle perspective that takes into account actual building developerrequirements and involving different scenarios (best, documented and worst-case) for the user stage can currently be compared. • In the other hand, comparisons restricted to different concrete structures only, or to different timber structures only, ought to involve a lower degree of uncertainty, These would then provide results that are significant as well as improvement requirements that are relevant. • There is potential for improving concrete by imposing requirements on the material • There is potential for improving solid wood frames by developing and guaranteeing well-documented long-term characteristics for all functional requirements. The LCAs were performed as an iterative process where all parties were given the opportunity to submit their viewpoints and suggestions for changes during the course of the work. This helped ensure that all alternatives have been properly thought through.Because, during the project, Riksbyggen opted to procure a concrete frame, in the final stage the researchers involved focused on ensuring the procurement process would result in the concrete frame as built meeting the requirements set out above. As things currently stand, the material requirements for the concrete are limited by the production options open to the suppliers, and this is therefore being investigated in the manufacture of precast concrete frames for the Viva cooperative housing association.

• 2023
• In: Vaccine. - : Elsevier. - 0264-410X .- 1873-2518. ; 41:9, s. 3128-3136
• Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
• BACKGROUND: Patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) show an immune dysfunction with increased risk of infections and poor response to vaccination. Streptococcus pneumoniae is a common cause of morbidity and mortality in CLL patients. In a previous randomized clinical trial, we found a superior immune response in CLL patients receiving conjugated pneumococcal vaccine compared to non-conjugated vaccine. The response to revaccination in CLL patients is scarcely studied. In this study, early humoral response to repeated revaccinations with pneumococcal vaccines was evaluated, by determination of B cell subsets and plasmablast dynamics in peripheral blood.METHOD: CLL patients (n = 14) and immunocompetent controls (n = 31) were revaccinated with a 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) after previous primary immunization (3-6 years ago) with PCV13 or a 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPSV23). Eight weeks after the first revaccination, all CLL patients received a second revaccination with PCV13 or PPSV23. B cell subsets including plasmablasts were analyzed in peripheral blood by flow cytometry, before and after the first and the second revaccination.RESULTS: None of the CLL patients, but all controls, had detectable plasmablasts at baseline (p < 0.001). After the first revaccination with PCV13, the plasmablast proportions did not increase in CLL patients (p = 0.13), while increases were seen in controls (p < 0.001). However, after a second revaccination with PCV13 or PPSV23, plasmablasts increased compared to baseline also in CLL patients (p < 0.01). If no response was evident after first revaccination, only a second revaccination with PCV13 increased plasmablasts in contrast to PPSV23 revaccination. Patients with hypogammaglobulinemia and ongoing/previous CLL specific treatment responded poorly, also to a second revaccination.CONCLUSION: In CLL patients, pneumococcal revaccination induced minor early plasmablast response compared to controls, but the response improved using a strategy of repeated doses with of conjugated T cell dependent pneumococcal vaccine.

• Book chapter (peer-reviewed)abstract
• Mathematics classrooms around the world serve students who are learning the dominant language of instruction. These students’ forms of participation in mathematical activity have often been examined from deficit perspectives. Mathematics education research is in great need of counter-narratives to such prevailing deficit assumptions so that we can see how such learners productively use existing resources to engage in mathematics. In this chapter we examine potentially fruitful ways of framing identity and learning centered on student agency that can be brought to bear on the analysis of emergent multilinguals’ mathematical activity. We then illustrate the utility of agency-centered framings with vignettes of student interactions that focus on how emergent bilinguals used multiple linguistic resources in powerful ways. The vignettes are drawn from a variety of international mathematics classroom contexts and focus on students as creative users of linguistic resources in ways that serve a variety of functions during mathematical activity.

• Predictive properties of the A-TAC inventory when screening for childhood-onset neurodevelopmental problems in a population-based sample
• 2013
• In: BMC Psychiatry. - 1471-244X. ; 13
• Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
• Background: Identifying children with childhood-onset neurodevelopmental problems (NDPs, defined here as autism spectrum disorders [ASDs], attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder [AD/HD], tic disorders [TDs], learning disorders [LDs] and development coordination disorder), using easily administered screening instruments, is a prerequisite for epidemiological research. Such instruments are also clinically useful to prioritize children for comprehensive assessments, to screen risk groups, and to follow controls. Autism-Tics, ADHD, and other Co-morbidities inventory (A-TAC) was developed to meet these requirements; here the A-TAC's prospective and psychometric properties are examined, when used in a population-based, epidemiological setting. Methods: Since 2004, parents of all Swedish twins have been asked to take part in an ongoing, nation-wide twin study (The Child and Adolescent Twin Study in Sweden). The study includes the A-TAC, carried out as a telephone interview with parents of twins aged 9 or 12. In the present study, screen-positive twins from three birth year cohorts (1993-1995) were invited to a comprehensive clinical follow-up (blinded for previous screening results) together with their co-twins and randomly selected, healthy controls at age 15 (Total N = 452). Results: Sensitivity and specificity of A-TAC scores for predicting later clinical diagnoses were good to excellent overall, with values of the area under the receiver operating characteristics curves ranging from 0.77 (AD/HD) to 0.91 (ASDs). Among children who were screen-positive for an ASD, 48% received a clinical diagnosis of ASDs. For AD/HD, the corresponding figure was also 48%, for LDs 16%, and for TDs 60%. Between 4% and 35% of screen-positive children did not receive any diagnosis at the clinical follow-up three years later. Among screen-negative controls, prevalence of ASDs, AD/HD, LDs, and TDs was 0%, 7%, 4%, and 2%, respectively. Conclusions: The A-TAC appeared to be a valid instrument to assess NDPs in this population-based, longitudinal study. It has good-to-excellent psychometric properties, with an excellent ability to distinguish NDPs (mainly ASDs) from non-NDPs at least three years after the screening evaluations, although specific diagnoses did not correspond closely to actual clinical diagnoses.
