  • Deep-core photoionization of krypton atoms below and above the 1s ionization threshold
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Physical Review A: covering atomic, molecular, and optical physics and quantum information. - : AMER PHYSICAL SOC. - 2469-9926 .- 2469-9934. ; 101:5
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Electronic relaxation of atomic Kr below and above the 1s ionization threshold is investigated experimentally using hard x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The experimental results are interpreted with the aid of relativistic Dirac-Fock calculations. The 1s orbital core-hole lifetime is extracted and the satellite's structures accompanying the photoelectron main line are assigned. Auger spectra recorded below and above the K edge are also investigated. In particular, the Auger cascade originating from vacancies of different origin in the L shell is analyzed in great detail. Competition between radiative KL versus nonradiative KLL Auger emission is emphasized.

  • Experimental and theoretical study of the Kr L-shell Auger decay
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Physical Review A: covering atomic, molecular, and optical physics and quantum information. - : American Physical Society. - 2469-9926 .- 2469-9934. ; 104:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The LMM Auger spectra of krypton are measured using the photon energies hv = 1709 eV, 1792 eV, 1950 eV, and 13 keV. This approach allows separating the contributions from the various core holes L-1 , L-2., and L-3. Previously unobserved transitions are presented. Complementary theoretical work is performed allowing the assignment of the spectral features. The L2,3Y -MMY (Y = M-4,M-5, N-1,N-2,N-3) Auger transitions of Kr2+ formed via Coster-Kronig Auger decay of the core holes L-1 and L-2. are also investigated. These spectra comprise about 4000 and 13 000 transitions, respectively, so that only general statements on the assignment, such as the configurations involved in the transitions, can be given.

  • Fluorescence Time Delay in Multistep Auger Decay as an Internal Clock
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - : AMER PHYSICAL SOC. - 0031-9007 .- 1079-7114. ; 124:18
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Differences in postcollision interaction (PCI) effects on Kr L3M4.5M4.5 Auger electron spectra were observed, depending on whether the initial photoionization occurred slightly above the K threshold or slightly above the L-3 threshold. For the former, KL fluorescence emission most likely happens and then Auger processes due to the L-3 hole follow. The time delay due to fluorescence causes a reduced shift of the Auger peak and tailing toward lower energy, since the Auger overtaking of the photoelectron happens later in time and at a location farther away from the ionic core, compared to the case for the simple one-step L3M4.5M4.5 Auger decay after L-shell photoionization. Time-dependent theory for PCI in multistep processes agrees well with experiment, illustrating the effect as an internal clock for the time-sequence of the dynamical process.

  • X-ray versus Auger emission following Xe 1s photoionization
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Physical Review A. Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics. - 1050-2947 .- 1094-1622. ; 95:6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Xe 1s photoelectron spectra were measured at SPring-8, Japan. The core-hole lifetime broadening was found to be 9.6 eV, yielding a lifetime of similar to 68 as. The amount of radiative versus nonradiative decay was assessed by recording Auger LMM spectra below and above the K edge. Below the K edge, L vacancies are produced only by direct photoionization, while above the K edge some of these vacancies are mainly produced by KL emission following 1s photoionization. Due to the dipole selection rule for x-ray emission, the dominant role of the KL relaxation process is rather directly observed.

  • Strong configuration interaction in the 3p photoelectron spectrum of Kr
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Physical Review A: covering atomic, molecular, and optical physics and quantum information. - 2469-9926 .- 2469-9934. ; 101:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We measured the Kr photoelectron spectrum in the region close to the 3p ionization threshold. Our high-resolution measurements allowed a clear observation of spectral structures due to electron correlation effects. Analysis based on relativistic multiconfiguration calculations could explain these observed peaks as due to strong configuration interactions between the 3p(-1) state and 3d(-2) nl states. Calculated and experimental data for peak assignments and intensity distributions are in good agreement. In addition, we measured the anisotropy parameter beta, which also agreed well with theory. These findings provide a detailed view of strong configuration interactions between the 3(-1) and 3d(-2)nl inner-shell hole states.

  • Correlative multielectron processes in K-shell photoionization of Ca, Ti and V in the energy range of 8-35 keV
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Journal of Physics B: Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics. - : IOP Publishing. - 0953-4075. ; 35:18, s. 3847-3863
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Kalpha satellite spectra arising from the correlative multielectron processes accompanying K-shell photoionization of Ca, Ti and V were measured using a broad range crystal spectrometer. Multiconfiguration Dirac-Fock calculations were performed to interpret the observed,x-ray energies and the spectral line shape., The calculations agree fairly well with the experimental results. The variation of the KalphaL(1) satellite and the Kalpha(1,2)(h) hypersatellite intensities was measured as a function, of excitation energy in the range of 8-35 keV. The KalphaL(1)/Kalpha(1,2) intensity ratio for each, element is already saturated in our energy range, and the asymptotic values of 1.58 +/- 0.08, 1.26 +/- 0.06 and 0.97 +/- 0.05% for Ca, Ti. and V were determined. By combining the present results and the previously measured values for various elements, we have found a Z(-3.5) scaling law for the KalphaL(1)/Kalpha(1,2) intensity ratio, The measured Kalpha(1,2)(h)/Kalpha(1,2) for each element, is found to increase smoothly from its onset and shows a long saturation range extending up to at least 25 keV above the threshold for Ti. The evolution of the Kalpha(1,2)(h)/Kalpha(1,2) intensity ratio is compared with the analytic Thomas model and with the theoretical calculation based on the screened hydrogenic model.

  • Hard x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy on heavy atoms and heavy-element containing molecules using synchrotron radiation up to 35 keV at SPring-8 undulator beamlines
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: New Journal of Physics. - : IOP Publishing. - 1367-2630. ; 21
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We have recently initiated hard x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy experiments on heavy atoms and heavy-element containing molecules in gas phase by using synchrotron radiation up to 35 keV at SPring-8 undulator beamlines. We have successfully measured deep inner-shell photoelectron spectra, as well asL-MMandM-NNAuger electron spectra excited below and above the K-edge of heavy elements. Target specimens utilized for the preliminary experiments are Ar, Kr and Xe atoms, and also iodine in iodomethane (CH3I) and trifluoroiodomethane (CF3I) molecules, respectively. We show some selected results on the extracted core-hole lifetime broadenings for the iodine 1s core level of the CH3I molecule and also for the Xe 2s, 2p core levels, to compare with theoretical values. The L-MMAuger electron spectra of Kr recorded at 13 and 16.6 keV excitation energies are also shown as typical examples, and the spectrum measured above the K-edge, i.e. 14.327 keV, is analyzed based on theoretical calculations using the Hartree-Fock method. As a result, we give a tentative assignment for the double-core-hole hyper-satellite LL-LMM Auger transitions of the Kr atom.

  • Resonant inelastic x-ray scattering and photoemission measurement of O2 : Direct evidence for dependence of Rydberg-valence mixing on vibrational states in O 1 s → Rydberg states
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Journal of Chemical Physics. - : American Institute of Physics (AIP). - 0021-9606 .- 1089-7690. ; 147:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • High-resolution resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS) and low-energy photoemission spectra of oxygen molecules have been measured for investigating the electronic structure of Rydberg states in the O 1s → σ∗ energy region. The electronic characteristics of each Rydberg state have been successfully observed, and new assignments are made for several states. The RIXS spectra clearly show that vibrational excitation is very sensitive to the electronic characteristics because of Rydberg-valence mixing and vibronic coupling in O2. This observation constitutes direct experimental evidence that the Rydberg-valence mixing characteristic depends on the vibrational excitation near the avoided crossing of potential surfaces. We also measured the photoemission spectra of metastable oxygen atoms (O) from O2 excited to 1s → Rydberg states. The broadening of the 4p Rydberg states of O∗ has been found with isotropic behavior, implying that excited oxygen molecules undergo dissociation with a lifetime of the order of 10 fs in 1s → Rydberg states.

  • Study of vacancy decays in the L-shell photoionization of barium in the excitation energy range of 5.6-30 keV: from L-2 edge to energy high above the thresholds of double L-vacancy production
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Journal of Physics B: Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics. - : IOP Publishing. - 0953-4075 .- 1361-6455. ; 39:22, s. 4775-4788
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Photoinduced Ba L x-rays were measured, in the excitation energy range of 5.6-30 keV, by using high-brilliance undulator radiation. The obtained intensity ratios, the excitation-energy independent L beta(4)/L beta(3), L eta/L beta(1), L iota/L alpha(1,2), L beta(6)/ L alpha(1,2) and L beta(2,15)/L alpha(1,2) as well as the excitation- energy dependent L beta(1)/L alpha(1,2), L beta(3)/L alpha(1,2) and L beta(3)/L beta(1), were compared with theoretical calculations, in which the calculations were performed by applying various subsets of the L subshell fluorescence yields and Coster-Kronig yields. Deviations of the theoretical calculations from the experimental results call on improvements in theory for the emission rates. We have also surveyed the L alpha(1,2) related x-ray hypersatellite lines in the photoinduced Ba L x-ray spectrum.
