  • Luftkvalitetsmätningar i ett antal tätorter i sydöstra Sverige vintern 1999/00
  • 2000
Totalt mättes i åtta veckor fördelade över vintersäsongen.

  • Neoliberal trajectories in mining : Comparing Malmfälten and the Pilbara
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: European journal of industrial relations. - : Sage Publications. - 0959-6801 .- 1461-7129. ; 26:3, s. 297-312
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We compare the iron ore sectors and mining regions of Malmfälten in Sweden and the Pilbara in Australia. Both are physically isolated and the product is economically vital, but we find differences in industrial relations which accord with what would be expected in coordinated and liberal market economies. A closer examination, attentive to history and geography and in which changes in institutional form and function are highlighted, reveals, however, that these differences are more apparent than real, and that there is a common neoliberal trajectory. This analysis also suggests that changes in these sites at times drive transformations in national industrial relations.

  • Understanding and defining bullying - adolescents' own views
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Archives of Public Health. - : BioMed Central. - 0778-7367 .- 2049-3258. ; 73, s. 1-9
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • BackgroundThe negative consequences of peer-victimization on children and adolescents are major public health concerns which have been subjected to extensive research. Given all efforts made to analyze and estimate the social and health consequences of peer-victimization, the adolescents' own experiences and understandings have had surprisingly little impact on the definition of bullying. Therefore, the aim of the current study is to explore adolescents' definitions of bullying.MethodsA questionnaire study (n = 128) and four focus group interviews (n = 21) were conducted among students aged 13 and 15. First, gender and age differences were analyzed with respect to what behaviors are considered bullying (questionnaire data). Second, analysis of what bullying is (focus group interviews) was conducted using qualitative content analysis.ResultsThe adolescents own understanding and definition of bullying didn't just include the traditional criteria of repetition and power imbalance, but also a criterion based on the health consequences of bullying. The results showed that a single but hurtful or harmful incident also could be considered bullying irrespective of whether the traditional criteria were fulfilled or not. Further, girls and older students had a more inclusive view of bullying and reported more types of behaviors as bullying compared to boys and younger students.ConclusionsThe results of the current study adds to the existing literature by showing that adolescents consider the victim's experience of hurt and harm as a criterion for defining bullying and not only as consequences of bullying. This may be of special relevance for the identification and classification of bullying incidents on the internet where devastating consequences have been reported from single incidents and the use of the traditional criteria of intent, repetition and power imbalance may not be as relevant as for traditional bullying. It implies that the traditional criteria included in most definitions of bullying may not fully reflect adolescents' understanding and definition of bullying. Assessments of bullying behaviors that ask adolescents to strictly adhere to the traditional definition of bullying might not identify all adolescents experiencing peer victimization and therefore not provide estimates of prevalence rates reflecting adolescents' own understanding of bullying.

  • Topgrafting as a tool in operational Scots pine breeding
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Journal of Forestry Research. - : Springer Nature. - 1007-662X .- 1993-0607. ; 35
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Effective breeding requires multiplying desired genotypes, keeping them at a convenient location to perform crosses more efficiently, and building orchards to generate material for reforestation. While some of these aims can be achieved by conventional grafting involving only rootstock and scion, topgrafting is known to deliver all in a shorter time span. In this study, Scots pine scions were grafted onto the upper and lower tree crowns in two clonal archives with the aim of inducing early female and male strobili production, respectively. Their survival rates and strobili production were analyzed with generalized linear mixed models. Survival was low (14%) to moderate (41%), and mainly affected by the topgraft genotype, interstock genotype, crown position and weather conditions in connection with the grafting procedure. Survival was not affected by the cardinal position in the crown (south or north). Male flowering was ample three years after grafting and reached 56% in the first year among live scions, increasing to 62 and 59% in consecutive years. Female flowering was scarce and was 9% at first, later increasing to 26 and 20% of living scions but was strongly affected by the topgraft genotype. In one subset of scions, female flowering was observed 1 year after grafting. Overall, flowering success was mainly affected by the topgraft and interstock genotypes, and secondary growth of scions. This is one of few reports on topgrafting in functional Scots pine clonal archives.

  • Mining Towns in Transition : Arctic Legacies
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Resource Extraction and Arctic Communities. - : Cambridge University Press. ; , s. 229-248
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Arctic mining towns are vulnerable to de-industrialization, as most jobs are in a single industry, with long distances to other employers or business opportunities. Other challenges are the legacies of mining that companies leave behind. Research has shown that such legacies can be used for sustaining industrial settlements beyond the end of the industries that supported them. This chapter seeks to understand under what circumstances legacies of mining can contribute to the long-term sustainability of Arctic mining towns in crisis. It explores the history of two Arctic mining towns, Kiruna in Sweden and Schefferville in Canada, and how actors there dealt with the crisis, how they used legacies from the past in this process, and what the outcomes were, after both towns were hit by economic crisis in the 1970s. By using the concepts of re-use and heritagization we show that the possibilities to sustain Arctic mining towns in crisis by creating new values out of mining legacies, depends on several factors: institutions, perceptions of values, and the momentum embedded in socio-technical systems for mining. Local initiatives for sustaining Arctic mining towns in crisis are discussed.

  • Correlation of in vitro dissolution rate and apparent solubility in buffered media using a miniaturized rotating disk equipment : Part II. Comparing different buffer media
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Drug Discoveries & Therapeutics. - : IACMHR and SDU-DDSC. - 1881-7831. ; 3:3, s. 114-122
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A correlation of the logarithmic values of the in vitro dissolution rate, G, and apparent solubility, S, was made for seven different drug substances from all of the classes in the Biopharmaceutics Classification System (BCS), in four different phosphate buffers. The effect of inorganic salts added as sodium chloride, sodium nitrate, sodium phosphate and sodium sulfate in the buffer media was investigated for the correlation. Triethanolammonium acetate buffer was also included in the study of the correlation of logG vs. logS. The pH was 7.0 ± 0.1 in all of the buffers to mimic a pH condition in intestinal fluids. The dissolution rate was determined with a newly constructed miniaturized rotating disk equipment, which enables fast determinations and consumes only minute quantities of substance (about 5 mg). The solubility was determined by conventional shake-flask methodology, using 1.5 mL solution volumes. All quantifications were performed with reversed phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) and diode array detection (DAD). The different inorganic anions seemed to affect the solubility more than the dissolution rate. The phosphate and nitrate ions decreased the solubility for amines compared to the chloride ion. The best correlations of logG and logS were however obtained with a triethanolammonium acetate buffer. The good correlation (R2 = 0.991) may be sufficient in initial screening of drug solubility, based on dissolution rates in aqueous buffer media.

  • Correlation of in vitro dissolution rate and apparent solubility in buffered media using a miniaturized rotating disk equipment : Part I. Comparison with a traditional USP rotating disk apparatus
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Drug Discoveries & Therapeutics. - : IACMHR and SDU-DDSC. - 1881-7831. ; 3:3, s. 104-113
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A correlation of the logarithmic values of the in vitro dissolution rate, G, and the apparent solubility, S, was evaluated in phosphate and ammonium acetate buffer at an initial pH of 7. The dissolution rates were determined with a newly designed and build miniaturized rotating disk equipment, as well as with a traditional rotating disk apparatus. The two apparatuses gave the same correlation pattern of logG and logS. Thirteen diverse drug substances from all of the classes in the Biopharmaceutics Classification System (BCS) were used for the correlation in the phosphate buffer system, with the results from the miniaturized apparatus only. A coefficient of determination, R2, of 0.982 was found if bases formulated as hydrochloride salts were excluded in the correlation. The miniaturized equipment is used for rapid screening of the dissolution rate, approximately 10 min for one run, and consumes small amounts of substance (about 5 mg) and dissolution media. All quantifications were performed by using reversed phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RPHPLC) with a diode array detector (DAD), integrated with the miniaturized rotating disk equipment.

  • Evaluation of a Miniaturized Rotating Disk Apparatus for In Vitro Dissolution Rate Measurements in Aqueous Media : Correlation of In Vitro Dissolution Rate with Apparent Solubility
  • 2010
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The general aim of this thesis was to evaluate a newly designed and constructed miniaturized rotating disk apparatus for in vitro dissolution rate measurements of different drug substances from all of the classes in the Biopharmaceutical Classification System (BCS). The new equipment is based on a low volume flow-through cell of Plexiglas, a gold plated magnetic bar and a special designed press. The disk of drug substance (approx. 5 mg) is placed eccentrically in the bar. Rotation speeds were set with a graded magnetic stirrer. An external HPLC pump delivered a continuous flow of aqueous medium to the flow-through cell during dissolution testing. A reversed phase high-performance liquid chromatography system using diode array detection (RP-HPLC-DAD) was coupled online to the new equipment. The injections from the miniaturized rotating disk outlet into the quantifying HPLC system were controlled by a six-position switching valve. The injection volumes from the valve and the autosampler, used for the external standards, were statistically evaluated to match each other volumetrically. No analyses were longer than three minutes, using isocratic mode. A traditional USP rotating disk apparatus was used as a reference system and the two instruments were shown to be statistically dissimilar in the numerical dissolution rate values probably due to different hydrodynamics, but had approximately the same precision/repeatability. When correlating the logarithmic values of the in vitro dissolution rate (G) with the apparent solubility (S), using shake-flask methodology in the solubility studies, the two apparatuses gave the same correlation patterns. Further correlation studies were done where the media components were altered by the use of different buffer species or additives into the buffers, such as inorganic salts. Chemometric tools, e.g. orthogonal partial least squares (OPLS), were used to better evaluate the most influential factors for G and S in different media. The most significant factor for a model basic drug substance (terfenadine) was pH, followed by the ionic strength (I) and added sodium chloride in one of the media. However, the surfactants in the Fasted State Simulated Intestinal Fluid (FaSSIF-V2) were found to be insignificant for G and S in this study (using a 95% confidence interval). The new miniaturized apparatus is a promising prototype for in vitro dissolution rate measurements both for early screening purposes and in dissolution testing during drug development, but needs further instrumental improvements.

  • Multivariate data analysis of factors affecting the in vitro dissolution rate and the apparent solubility for a model basic drug substance in aqueous media
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Pharmaceutical research. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0724-8741 .- 1573-904X. ; 27:7, s. 1309-1317
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose. To evaluate the usefulness of a miniaturized rotating disk equipment for the determination of factors influencing the in vitro dissolution rate, G, of a model basic drug substance (terfenadine) in different aqueous media, using experimental design and multivariate data analysis. The apparent solubility, S, was included in the chemometric study. Methods. The dissolution rate was determined with a miniaturized rotating disk apparatus and the solubility by shake-flask methodology. Media were based on acetate, phosphate or maleate buffers. The later used in fasted state simulated intestinal fluid (FaSSIF-V2). The chemometric analyses included fractional factorial design, principal component analysis (PCA) and orthogonal partial least squares (OPLS). Quantifications were made with a RP-HPLC-DAD system. Results. The most influential factor for both G and S of terfenadine in the different media was pH. Apart from the ionic strength and sodium chloride concentration in the acetate medium, the effects of the other variables were insignificant implying no wetting effect of the surfactants. Conclusions. The miniaturized rotating disk equipment was suitable to use, in conjunction with the chemometric analyses, in the evaluation of the factors affecting the in vitro dissolution rate. The apparent solubility was found to be influenced by the same factors as G.

  • Hjalmar Lundbohm : En studie om ledarskap inom LKAB 1898-1921
  • 2015
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The thesis has as main purpose to study the influences that affected LKAB's first manager Hjalmar Lundbohm (1855-1926) in his leadership, both in mining operations and within the social structure, and how Lundbohm as a leader utilized his network. The study is implemented as a scientific biography. Previous research has dealt with Lundbohm’s role as leader and community builder in peripheral ways within larger histories, but no comprehensive analysis of Lundbohm as a leader and network builder has been made. With the focus on an in-depth description of Lundbohm as a person and his role as a leader, the thesis further aims to contribute to a better understanding of the prerequisites that existed when the mining activities in Kiruna and Tuolluvaara started and as the two societies were built up. The hope is also that the analysis of this leadership can serve as a description of the individual leader’s significance for corporate development and leader’s engagement in social issues.Lundbohm appeared as leader at a time when the patriarchal leadership was about to be replaced by a leadership under greater professionalisation, where the requirement of specialist expertise in the specific business area had increased. At the same time Lundbohm’s authority as a leader in LKAB was questioned even before the First World War, because of the outdated patriarchal leadership style he exercised.Outside of LKAB Lundbohm was perceived as a strong patriarchal leader. In connection with his burial some of the speakers expressed that during Lundbohm’s life he had intentionally cultivated an image of himself as the patriarchal protector as well as leader of the mining community. His legendary status was already solidified immediately after his death. The thesis questions the image of Kiruna as a utopian society, revealing other perspectives which expose the differences in standard between the different social components, town plan, SJ residential areas, LKAB's own residence establishment, and Tuolluvaara. Keywords: patriarchal, network, leadership, utopian society, Kiruna, LKAB,

  • Health Promotion in Schools : Results of a Swedish Public Health Project
  • 2016
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • All children have the right to a safe school environment that promotes good health. The fact that children’s feeling of well-being is declining is a vital public health concern. Health promotion in schools can help to create an environment that fosters good health, and the Swedish school environment is in need of improvement. The main aim of the thesis was to examine the health promotion activities that have been performed in Karlstad municipality primary schools between 2006 and 2012, from different perspectives, focusing on the school environment. This thesis includes four studies. Studies I and II are qualitative, and are based on interviews with all school managers in a municipality and children’s suggestions for improvement, respectively. Studies III and IV are quantitative and feature a cross-sectional design based on a questionnaire that was distributed at different points in time.In study I the categories: ‘Organization and collaboration’, ‘Optimize the arena’ and ‘Strengthening the individual’ emerged as vital by the school managers in health promotion, to enable ‘Opportunities for learning and a good life’. In Study II, ‘Psychosocial climate’ and ‘Influence’ emerge by the children as essential to increase school satisfaction and improve social relations among peers. Study III shows that classmates’ characteristics and class composition were associated with different perceptions of the classroom climate. Study IV shows that the school environment improved during 2005-2011 in the project municipality schools, and compared to the other municipalities in the county. In sum, it is always important to endeavor to provide a health supportive school environment, as it is a vital prerequisite for children’s health, well-being and academic achievements. This thesis contributes to the field by showing what is needed to enhance future health promotion in Swedish schools from different perspectives, to improve children’s opportunities for learning and a good life.

  • Ingår i: Health Promotion International. - : Oxford University Press. - 0957-4824 .- 1460-2245. ; 36:4, s. 1039-1049
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • To examine whether a public health project to reduce problem behavior in schools and improve the classroom climate, undertaken among eight secondary schools in a municipality in Sweden, was accompanied by favorable changes in the school environment over time. Data were collected from ninth grade students (aged 15-16years) at three different time points: the year before the project began (2005), during the project (2008) and when the project finished (2011). Changes in the school environment, measured as damage, littering, noise and classroom disorder, were compared between the project municipality and a comparison group of other municipalities in the same county, using multinomial logistic regression analysis. Descriptive comparisons were made between the schools within the project municipality. The school environment improved significantly from 2005 to 2011 in the project municipality compared with the other municipalities. The school environment was improved in all schools within the project municipality. The biggest improvements took place in two schools which systematically worked with one program incorporated into the school schedule. This study demonstrates that it may be possible to improve the school environment by implementing health programs. Further studies based on experimental designs are required in order to confirm the potential and efficiency of school health programs.
