  • Data-Driven Decision Making for Product Service Systems
  • 2024
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    •  This book is a compilation of theoretical and practical contributions aimed at facilitating the servitization of manufacturing companies, specifically focusing on data-driven decision-making within the context of Product-Service Systems (PSS). Providing a comprehensive overview, it discusses the latest breakthroughs in operational, tactical, and strategic decision-making for PSS, leveraging data-driven processes, methodologies, and tools. Therefore, the book significantly contributes to strengthening the knowledge on the use of data-driven decision-making methods and tools all the phases of the PSS lifecycle. From extended warranties and leasing to pay-per-use and other innovative configurations, manufacturing companies are increasingly adopting servitized business models and PSS to create additional value for their customers and users and create robust relationships with them, ensuring more reliable cash flows. In this setting, effective information management and the utilization of aggregated operational data have become essential for guiding strategic, tactical, and operational decisions. This book not only consolidates theoretical frameworks but also offers practical insights into data-driven decision-making in PSS, providing deep knowledge on how complex decisions can be taken along the various phases of the PSS lifecycle using data-driven methods and tools. Key areas of focus include: 1. In the Beginning of Life, introducing new services tailored to customer needs, disclosing new business opportunities in terms of revenues, and extending the PSS Middle of Life.2. Designing or re-designing assets and/or services, thereby influencing the PSS Beginning of Life.3. Enhancing daily decisions related to asset management to improve the PSS Middle of Life.4. Optimizing daily decisions related to service delivery and management, aimed at enhancing the PSS Middle of Life.5. Facilitating informed decisions on recycling, remanufacturing, refurbishing, and revamping, impacting the PSS End of Life. This book will be of interest to researchers and managers in industry as it offers insights that bridge the gap between theory and practical application in the evolving landscape of PSS.

  • Digital Servitization in the Manufacturing Sector : Survey Preliminary Results
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Advances in Production Management Systems: Smart Manufacturing and Logistics Systems. - Cham : Springer Science+Business Media B.V.. - 9783031164101 ; , s. 310-320
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In the contention of the current industrial landscape, an increasing number of manufacturing firms are experimenting with the transition from product-centric offerings to service-based value concepts and product-service bundles as high-value integrated customer solutions to increase their revenues and build sustainable competitive advantages; a phenomenon known as the “servitization” of manufacturing. Nowadays, consistently with the Industry 4.0 paradigm, these companies have therefore started a process of integrating their traditional value offerings with digital services. This recent strategy is known as “Digital Servitization” and consists of developing new services and/or improving existing ones through digital technologies. However, this transformation is challenging, and companies often struggle to achieve their expectations. Thus, this study aims to shed light on the current state of Digital Servitization strategies in the manufacturing sector based on a survey addressed to the top and middle management. The results obtained by the analysis of the data collected from the survey show an increasing trend towards the adoption of digital technologies for enabling innovation and differentiation in service delivery processes. © 2022, IFIP International Federation for Information Processing.

  • The Digital Servitization of Manufacturing Sector : Evidence from a Worldwide Digital Servitization Survey
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Advances in Production Management Systems. Production Management Systems for Responsible Manufacturing, Service, and Logistics Futures. - : Springer. - 9783031436659 ; , s. 165-180
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • To boost revenues and create a lasting competitive advantage in the present global market, an increasing number of manufacturing companies are experimenting with shifting from product-centric offerings to service solutions leveraging digital technologies according to the Industry 4.0 paradigm. This (digital) transformation, known as “Digital Servitization”, aims to provide new (digital) services and/or enhance existing ones. Yet, this transformation is challenging and manufacturing companies frequently have trouble meeting their expectations. To shed light on the current state of the Digital Servitization trend in the global manufacturing sector, researchers involved in the ASAP Service Management Forum and the IFIP WG5.7 Special Interest Group on “Service Systems Design, Engineering and Management” have conducted an international survey targeting manufacturing SME managers. The main survey objectives are twofold: (i) to analyse how manufacturing companies are implementing digital technologies to support their Digital Servitization transformation from traditional business models based on product sales to models focused on service delivery, and (ii) to identify which critical issues and best practices are characterizing the Digital Servitization transformation of manufacturing companies. Survey results have demonstrated a rising trend in the global manufacturing sector towards the use of digital technologies for service delivery, but more mature servitization strategies, data management activities, coordination efforts at the ecosystem level, and supporting tools for conscious decisions in the delivery of (digital) services are still required to succeed in the new Digital Servitization arena.

  • Data-based decision-making in maintenance service delivery : the D3M framework
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Manufacturing Technology and Management (IJMTM). - : Emerald Group Publishing Limited. - 1368-2148 .- 1741-5195. ; 32:9, s. 122-141
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose – This paper aims to present a dual-perspective framework for maintenance service delivery that should be used by manufacturing companies to structure and manage their maintenance service delivery process, using aggregated historical and real-time data to improve operational decision-making. The framework, built for continuous improvement, allows the exploitation of maintenance data to improve the knowledge of service processes and machines.Design/methodology/approach – The Dual-perspective, data-based decision-making process for maintenance delivery (D3M) framework development and test followed a qualitative approach based on literature reviews and semi-structured interviews. The pool of companies interviewed was expanded from the development to the test stage to increase its applicability and present additional perspectives.Findings – The interviews confirmed that manufacturing companies are interested in exploiting the data generated in the use phase to improve operational decision-making in maintenance service delivery. Feedback to improve the framework methods and tools was collected, as well as suggestions for the introduction of new ones according to the companies’ necessities.Originality/value – The paper presents a novel framework addressing the data-based decision-making process for maintenance service delivery. The D3M framework can be used by manufacturing companies to structure their maintenance service delivery process and improve their knowledge of machines and service processes.

  • The Data-Driven Product-Service Systems Design and Delivery (4DPSS) Methodology
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: IFIP Advances in Information and Communication Technology. - Cham : Springer. - 9783030579968 ; , s. 314-321
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The design of Product-Service Systems (PSS) has been approached from several perspectives like the process, innovation, engineering and operational ones providing, for each one of those, a specific view on the problem. This paper proposes a Data-Driven Product-Service System Design and Delivery (4DPSS) methodology focusing on the collection and exploitation of delivery data to feed the design phase. The logic of the methodology relies on aggregating operational data (collected in the delivery phase) to build a consistent body of knowledge to be exploited in iterative PSS design activities, thanks to better identification of customer needs, and product and service process design issues. This paper presents the 4DPSS methodology at a theoretical level, the implementations of the different methods constituting the methodology are referred to in the text, while its implementation and test as a whole are demanded to future work. © 2020, IFIP International Federation for Information Processing.
