  • A Comprehensive Pan-Cancer Molecular Study of Gynecologic and Breast Cancers.
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Cancer Cell. - : Elsevier BV. - 1535-6108 .- 1878-3686. ; 33:4, s. 690-705.e9
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We analyzed molecular data on 2,579 tumors from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) of four gynecological types plus breast. Our aims were to identify shared and unique molecular features, clinically significant subtypes, and potential therapeutic targets. We found 61 somatic copy-number alterations (SCNAs) and 46 significantly mutated genes (SMGs). Eleven SCNAs and 11 SMGs had not been identified in previous TCGA studies of the individual tumor types. We found functionally significant estrogen receptor-regulated long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) and gene/lncRNA interaction networks. Pathway analysis identified subtypes with high leukocyte infiltration, raising potential implications for immunotherapy. Using 16 key molecular features, we identified five prognostic subtypes and developed a decision tree that classified patients into the subtypes based on just six features that are assessable in clinical laboratories.

  • Prompt Emission Polarimetry of Gamma-Ray Bursts with the AstroSat CZT Imager
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Astrophysical Journal. - : Institute of Physics (IOP). - 0004-637X .- 1538-4357. ; 884:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • X-ray and gamma-ray polarization measurements of the prompt emission of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are believed to be extremely important for testing various models of GRBs. So far, the available measurements of hard X-ray polarization of GRB prompt emission have not significantly constrained the GRB models, particularly because of the difficulty of measuring polarization in these bands. The CZT Imager (CZTI) on board AstroSat is primarily an X-ray spectroscopic instrument that also works as a wide-angle GRB monitor due to the transparency of its support structure above 100 keV. It also has experimentally verified polarization measurement capability in the energy range 100-300 keV and thus provides a unique opportunity to attempt spectropolarimetric studies of GRBs. Here we present the polarization data for the brightest 11 GRBs detected by CZTI during its first year of operation. Among these, five GRBs show polarization signatures with greater than or similar to 3 sigma, and one GRB shows 2 sigma detection significance. We place upper limits for the remaining five GRBs. We provide details of the various tests performed to validate our polarization measurements. While it is difficult yet to discriminate between various emission models with the current sample alone, the large number of polarization measurements that CZTI expects to gather in its minimum lifetime of five years should help to significantly improve our understanding of the prompt emission.

  • Evaluating the climate impact of aviation emission scenarios towards the Paris agreement including COVID-19 effects
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Nature Communications. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 2041-1723 .- 2041-1723. ; 12:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Aviation is an important contributor to the global economy, satisfying society’s mobility needs. It contributes to climate change through CO2 and non-CO2 effects, including contrail-cirrus and ozone formation. There is currently significant interest in policies, regulations and research aiming to reduce aviation’s climate impact. Here we model the effect of these measures on global warming and perform a bottom-up analysis of potential technical improvements, challenging the assumptions of the targets for the sector with a number of scenarios up to 2100. We show that although the emissions targets for aviation are in line with the overall goals of the Paris Agreement, there is a high likelihood that the climate impact of aviation will not meet these goals. Our assessment includes feasible technological advancements and the availability of sustainable aviation fuels. This conclusion is robust for several COVID-19 recovery scenarios, including changes in travel behaviour.

  • Nominal PbSe nano-islands on PbTe : Grown by MBE, analyzed by AFM and TEM
  • 2005
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Nominal PbSe nano-islands were grown in the Stranski-Krustanow mode on (111) oriented PbTe/BaF 2 pseudo-substrates by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE). The number density and morphology of these islands were assessed by means of atomic force microscopy (AFM). Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was employed to determine the strain state and cryslallographic structure of these islands. On the basis of both AFM and TEM analyses, we distinguish between different groups of tensibly strained islands. The suggestion is made to use such nano-islands as part of nanometrology standards for scanning probe microscopy.
