  • Determinants of morbidity and mortality following emergency abdominal surgery in children in low-income and middle-income countries
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: BMJ Global Health. - : BMJ Publishing Group Ltd. - 2059-7908. ; 1:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Child health is a key priority on the global health agenda, yet the provision of essential and emergency surgery in children is patchy in resource-poor regions. This study was aimed to determine the mortality risk for emergency abdominal paediatric surgery in low-income countries globally. Methods: Multicentre, international, prospective, cohort study. Self-selected surgical units performing emergency abdominal surgery submitted prespecified data for consecutive children aged <16 years during a 2-week period between July and December 2014. The United Nation's Human Development Index (HDI) was used to stratify countries. The main outcome measure was 30-day postoperative mortality, analysed by multilevel logistic regression. Results: This study included 1409 patients from 253 centres in 43 countries; 282 children were under 2 years of age. Among them, 265 (18.8%) were from low-HDI, 450 (31.9%) from middle-HDI and 694 (49.3%) from high-HDI countries. The most common operations performed were appendectomy, small bowel resection, pyloromyotomy and correction of intussusception. After adjustment for patient and hospital risk factors, child mortality at 30 days was significantly higher in low-HDI (adjusted OR 7.14 (95% CI 2.52 to 20.23), p<0.001) and middle-HDI (4.42 (1.44 to 13.56), p=0.009) countries compared with high-HDI countries, translating to 40 excess deaths per 1000 procedures performed. Conclusions: Adjusted mortality in children following emergency abdominal surgery may be as high as 7 times greater in low-HDI and middle-HDI countries compared with high-HDI countries. Effective provision of emergency essential surgery should be a key priority for global child health agendas.

  • Experimental analysis of the CNx nano-damping material’s effect on the dynamic performance of a milling process
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the International Conference on Advanced Manufacturing Engineering and Technologies. - Stockholm : KTH Royal Institute of Technology. - 9789175018928 ; , s. 293-302
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Vibration phenomena are a main consideration during the material removal operation, as it has prominent effects on the product quality, cutting tool life, and productivity of that machining operation. Within the context of machining performance, role of enhanced stiffness and damping on the dynamic behaviour of machining systems such as turning and milling is well established. In this experimental analysis, investigations have been conducted for identifying the natural characteristics and dynamic responses of a milling process with the application of a novel carbon based (CNx) nano-composite damping material. TheCNx material has been applied into the joint interface of a workholding device with adaptive dynamic stiffness. Prior investigations of this material, produced by theplasma enhanced chemical vapor (PECVD) process, showed inherent damping capacity via interfacial frictional losses of its micro-columnar structures. For thisstudy, natural characteristics of the workholding system have been characterized bythe modal impact testing method. Dynamic responses during the machining processhave been measured through the vibration acceleration signals. The ultimate objective of this study is to comprehend the potentiality of CNx coating material forimproving machining process performance by analyzing the frequency response functions and measured vibration signals of the investigated milling process with varying stiffness and damping levels.

  • Families of Extended Exponentiated Generalized Distributions and Applications of Medical Data Using Burr III Extended Exponentiated Weibull Distribution
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Mathematics. - 2227-7390. ; 11:14
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this article, four new families named as Weibull extended exponentiated-X (WEE-X), Lomax extended exponentiated-X (LEE-X), Logistic extended exponentiated-X (LGCEE-X), and Burr III extended exponentiated-X (BIIIEE-X) with their quantile functions are proposed. The expressions for distribution function and density function of BIIIEE-X family are written in terms of linear combinations of the exponentiated densities based to parent model. New models, i.e., Weibul extended exponentiated Weibull (WEEW), Lomax extended exponentiated Weibull (LEEW), Logistic extended exponentiated Weibull (LGCEEW), and Burr III extended exponentiated-Weibull (BIIIEEW) distributions are derived, were plotted for functions of probability density and hazard rate at different levels of parameters. Some mathematical properties of the BIIIEEW model are disclosed. The maximum likelihood method for the BIIIEEW model are described. Numerical applications of the BIIIEEW model to disease of cancer datasets are provided.

  • The Exponentiated Power Alpha Index Generalized Family of Distributions : Properties and Applications
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Mathematics. - : MDPI AG. - 2227-7390. ; 11:4, s. 900-900
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The study of hydrological characteristics has a vital role in designing, planning, and managing water resources. The selection of appropriate probability distributions and methods of estimations are basic elements in hydrology analyses. In this article, a new family named the ‘exponentiated power alpha index generalized’ (EPAIG)-G is proposed to develop several new distributions. Using this proposed family, we developed a new model, called the EPAIG-exponential (EPAIG-E). A few structural properties of the EPAIG-G were obtained. The EPAIG-E parameters were estimated through the method of maximum likelihood (MML). The study of the Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) was produced for the EPAIG-E. The model performance is illustrated using real data.

  • The Generalized Alpha Exponent Power Family of Distributions : Properties and Applications
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Mathematics. - : MDPI AG. - 2227-7390. ; 10:9
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Here, a new method is recommended to characterize a new continuous distribution class, named the generalized alpha exponent power family of distributions (GAEPFDs). A particular sub-model is presented for exemplifying the objective. The basic statistical properties, such as ordinary moments, the probability weighted moments, mode, quantile, order statistics, entropy measures, and moment generating functions, etc., were explored. To gauge the GAEPPRD parameters, the ML technique was utilized. The estimator behaviour was studied by a Monte Carlo simulation study (MCSS). The effectiveness of GAEPFDs was demonstrated observationally through lifetime data. The applications show that GAEPFDs can offer preferable results over other competitive models.

  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Mathematics. - : MDPI AG. - 2227-7390. ; 10:19
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Here, we propose a new generalized exponential extended exponentiated (NGE3) family of distributions. Some statistical properties of proposed family are gained. The most extreme probability method, maximum likelihood (ML), is utilized for parameter estimation. We explore an exceptional model called NGE3-Exponential (NGE3E). NGE3E is estimated with ML, and the performance of estimators is demonstrated by utilizing a simulation. Moreover, two applications are given to show the significance and adaptability of the proposed model in comparison to some generalized models (GMs).

  • Algorithms to obtain generalized neighbor designs in minimal circular blocks
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Communications in statistics. Simulation and computation. - : Taylor & Francis. - 0361-0918 .- 1532-4141.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The experiments where response of a treatment (direct effect) is affected by the treatment(s) applied in neighboring units, neighbor designs are used to balance the neighbor effects. Being the economical, minimal neighbor designs are preferred by the experimenters. Minimal circular neighbor designs could not be constructed for almost every case of v even, where v is number of treatments. For v even, minimal circular generalized neighbor designs are preferred. In this article, algorithms are developed to obtain minimal circular generalized neighbor designs in which (a) v/2 of the unordered pairs, and (b) 3v/2 of the unordered pairs, do not appear as neighbor whereas the remaining ones appear once. These algorithms are also coded with R-language.

  • Homonymous visual field defect and retinal thinning after occipital stroke
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Brain and Behavior. - : Wiley-Blackwell. - 2162-3279 .- 2162-3279. ; 11:10
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Introduction Stroke is the most common cause of homonymous visual field defects (VFD). About half of the stroke patients recover from VFD. However, relationship between VFD and retinal changes remains elusive. Purpose To investigate the association between occurrence of VFD, changes of macular ganglion cell and inner plexiform layer (GCIPL) and its axon retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) detected with optical coherence tomography (OCT). Patients and methods The study consists of retrospective review of medical records and follow-up examinations. Patients with acute occipital stroke were registered. VFD was identified with confrontation and/or perimetry tests at the onset. At follow-up, the patients were examined with visual field tests and OCT measurements. Results Thirty-six patients met the inclusion criteria. At onset, 26 patients (72%) had VFD. At follow-up >1 year after stroke, 13 patients (36%) had remaining VFD: 5 had homonymous hemianopia, 5 had homonymous quadrantanopia, and 3 had homonymous scotomas. Average thickness of GCIPL and RNFL were significantly reduced in each eye in patients with VFD compared to non-VFD (NVFD) (p < .01 for all comparisons). Thickness of superior and inferior RNFL quadrants was significantly reduced in VFD compared to NVFD (p < .01 for both). Among these 13 patients, 4 had characteristic homonymous quadrant-GCIPL thinning, 2 had characteristic homonymous hemi-GCIPL thinning, and 7 had diffuse GCIPL thinning. Conclusion GCIPL and RNFL thinning were observed in the patients with VFD. GCIPL thinning appears in two forms: atypical diffuse thinning, or homonymous hemi-GCIPL thinning. Examining GCIPL and RNFL provides easy and reliable objective measures and is therefore proposed to be of predictive value on visual function.

  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The current study was conducted on 50 Alectoris chukar subspecies Kurdestanica that was collected from Sulaymaniyah Province, Kurdistan Region, Northern Iraq, during the period of April to the end of September 2016. Samples of liver, gallbladder, spleen, kidneys, heart, lungs, gizzard, breast, and thigh muscle tissues were tested for bacterial isolates. Preliminary characterization of the isolated bacteria was carried out by morphological and biochemical methods. The VITEK 2® system was used to confirm the isolated species, while the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used for the detection of the resistance gene in the bacterial isolates. As a result, tested samples showed the presence of Staphylococcus sciuri and Escherichia coli. Additionally, antimicrobial susceptibility test was done to determine the bacterial susceptibility to various antibiotics and as a result; E. coli showed 100% susceptibility to penicillin, azithromycin, tetracycline, and doxycycline and 75% susceptibility to streptomycin. On the other hand, S. sciuri exhibited 75% susceptibility to azithromycin, penicillin, and doxycycline, 50% susceptibility to streptomycin, and 25% susceptibility to tetracycline. Molecular identification showed that only the S. sciuri isolates carried the methicillin-resistant mecA gene. To our knowledge, this is the first record of isolation of the S. sciuri methicillin-resistant mecA gene from A. chukar subspecies Kurdestanica.

  • Circular Manufacturing Systems : A development framework with analysis methods and tools for implementation
  • 2017
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The society today lives on the philosophy of ‘take-make-use-dispose.’ In the long run, this is not sustainable as the natural resources and the waste carrying capacity of the earth are limited. Therefore, it is essential to reduce dependency on the natural resources by decoupling the growth from the consumption. In this venture, both the society and the manufacturing industry have a vital role to play. The society needs to shift towards Circular Economy that rests upon the philosophy of ‘take-make-use-reuse’ and the manufacturing industry has to be a major stakeholder in this shift. Despite being proven to be both economically and environmentally beneficial, successful examples of circular systems are few today. This is primarily due to two reasons; firstly, there is a lack of systemic and systematic approach to guide industries and secondly, there is a lack of analysis methods and tools that are capable of assessing different aspects of circular manufacturing systems. Taking on to these challenges, the objective of this research is to bring forward a framework with methods and decision support tools that are essential to implement circular manufacturing systems. The initial conceptual framework with the systemic approach is developed based on extensive review and analysis of research, which is further adapted for industrial implementation. Systematic analysis methods, decision support and implementation tools are developed to facilitate this adaptation. This development has been supported by four cases from diverse manufacturing sectors. Behind each decision support tool, there are analysis methods built upon mainly system dynamics principles. These tools are based on simulation platforms called Stella and Anylogic. Among other things, these tools are capable of assessing the performance of closed-loop supply chains, consequences of resource scarcity, potential gains from resource conservation and overall economic and environmental performance of circular manufacturing systems.

  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Journal of Remanufacturing. - Germany : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 2210-4690. ; 2:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • PurposeThe question of resource scarcity and emerging pressure of environmental legislations has brought a new challenge for the manufacturing industry. On the one hand, there is a huge population that demands a large quantity of commodities; on the other hand, these demands have to be met by minimum resources and pollution. Resource conservative manufacturing (ResCoM) is a proposed holistic concept to manage these challenges. The successful implementation of this concept requires cross functional collaboration among relevant fields, and among them, closed loop supply chain is an essential domain. The paper aims to highlight some misconceptions concerning the closed loop supply chain, to discuss different challenges, and in addition, to show how the proposed concept deals with those challenges through analysis of key performance indicators (KPI).MethodsThe work presented in this paper is mainly based on the literature review. The analysis of performance of the closed loop supply chain is done using system dynamics, and the Stella software has been used to do the simulation. Findings The results of the simulation depict that in ResCoM; the performance of the closed loop supply chain is much enhanced in terms of supply, demand, and other uncertainties involved. The results may particularly be interesting for industries involved in remanufacturing, researchers in the field of closed loop supply chain, and other relevant areas. Originality The paper presented a novel research concept called ResCoM which is supported by system dynamics models of the closed loop supply chain to demonstrate the behavior of KPI in the closed loop supply chain.

  • 2011
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Sustainable Development & World Ecology. - : Informa UK Limited. - 1745-2627 .- 1350-4509. ; 18:2, s. 134-142
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Environmental impact assessment (EIA) is an important legislative and scientific tool that may assist and improve the quality assistance for the decision-making process in sustainable development. Here, a comparison of EIAs from three cases of hydropower projects in Pakistan, Norway and Sweden is reported. A huge difference concerning the incorporation of environmental considerations into the decisionmaking process between developed and developing countries is observed. The EIA system of Pakistan appears to be less efficient in the application and review process. In addition, the appraisal of issues, the decision-making process and evaluation through post-monitoring is not as well performed in Pakistan as in cases of hydroelectric power plants in Sweden and Norway. The key reason for this shortcoming is misconceptions about the EIA process, which initially receives intense attention but becomes weakened by the time of implementation. This implies that there is a need to adopt simplified and flexible EIA techniques suitable for the infrastructure and resources of a specific country, taking into account institutional, technical and financial constraints. Improvements are required in public participation, awareness, as well as in environmental control and data system sectors in Pakistan, besides simply enacting legislation to achieve the goals of the EIA system.

  • A practical ICT framework for transition to circular manufacturing systems
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Procedia CIRP. - : Elsevier. - 2212-8271. ; , s. 598-602
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The transition towards a circular economy has become important. Manufacturing industry being a major stakeholder in this transition has started exploring the potential of this transition and challenges in implementation. Ambitious companies such as Gorenje d.d. has taken the circular economy transition seriously and aims to become a pioneer in implementing circular manufacturing systems. One vital step in this transition is the business model shift from the linear (sales model) to a circular model such as 'product as a service'. This brings new challenges to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) that have never been experienced in their conventional businesses. One of the challenges is to establish an information communication and technology (ICT) infrastructure that enables information management and sharing as well as establishes a real-time communication between relevant stakeholders. Outlining such an ICT infrastructure is the objective of this paper.

  • Multi-method simulation based tool to evaluate economic and environmental performance of circular product systems
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Journal of Cleaner Production. - : Elsevier. - 0959-6526 .- 1879-1786. ; 139, s. 1261-1281
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose: The transition from linear to circular product systems is a big step for any organization. This may require an organization to change the way it does business, designs product and manages supply chain. As these three areas are interdependent, bringing change in one area will influence the others, for instance, changing the business model from conventional sales to leasing will demand changes in both product design and the supply chain. At the same time, it is essential for an organization to anticipate the economic and environmental impact of all changes before it may decide to implement the circular product systems. However, there is no tool available today that can assess economic and environmental performance of circular product systems. The purpose of this research is to develop a multi-method simulation based tool that can help to evaluate economic and environmental performance of circular product systems. Method: The conceptual models that are used to develop the tool have been formulated based on review of the state-of-the-art research. System Dynamics (SD) and Agent Based (AB) principles have been used to create the simulation model which has been implemented in Anylogic software platform. Originality: This research presents the first multi-method simulation based tool that can evaluate economic and environmental performance of circular product systems. Findings: Multi-method simulation technique is useful in designing dynamic simulation model that takes into consideration mutual interactions among critical factors of business model, product design and supply chain. It also allows predicting system's behaviour and its influence on the economic and environmental performance of circular product systems.

  • System dynamics models for decision making in product multiple lifecycles
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Resources, Conservation and Recycling. - : Elsevier BV. - 0921-3449 .- 1879-0658. ; 101, s. 20-33
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The main drivers for adopting product multiple lifecycles are to gain ecological and economic advantages. However, in most of the cases it is not straight forward to estimate the potential ecological and economic gain that may result from adopting product multiple lifecycles. Even though many researchers have concluded that product multiple lifecycles result in gain, there are examples which indicate that the gain is often marginal or even none in many cases. The purpose of this research is to develop system dynamics models that can assist decision makers in assessing and analysing the potential gain of product multiple lifecycles considering the dynamics of material scarcity. The foundation of the research presented in this paper is laid based on literature review. System dynamics principles have been used for modelling and simulations have been done on Stella iThink platform. The data used in the models have been extracted from different reports published by World Steel Association and U.S. Geological Survey. Some of the data have been assumed based on expert estimation. The data on iron ore reserves, iron and steel productions and consumptions have been used in the models. This research presents the first system dynamics model for decision making in product multiple lifecycles which takes into consideration the dynamics of material scarcity. Physical unavailability and price of material are the two main factors that would drive product multiple lifecycles approach and more sustainable decisions can be made if it is done by taking holistic system approach over longer time horizon. For an enterprise it is perhaps not attractive to conserve a particular type of material through product multiple lifecycles approach which is naturally abundant but extremely important if the material becomes critical. An enterprise could through engineering, proper business model and marketing may increase the share of multiple lifecycle products which eventually would help the enterprise to reduce its dependency on critical materials.

  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present an amplitude analysis of the decay D0 → K -π+π+π- based on a data sample of 2.93  fb−1 acquired by the BESIII detector at the ψ(3770) resonance. With a nearly background free sample of about 16000 events, we investigate the substructure of the decay and determine the relative fractions and the phases among the different intermediate processes. Our amplitude model includes the two-body decays D0 → ¯K*0ρ0, D0 → K−a+1(1260) and D0 → K−1(1270)π+, the three-body decays D0 →¯K*0π+π− and D0 → K−π+ρ0, as well as the four-body nonresonant decay D0 → K−π+π+π−. The dominant intermediate process is D0 → K−a+1(1260), accounting for a fit fraction of 54.6%.

  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Using 448.0 x 10(6) psi(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector, an amplitude analysis is performed for psi(3686) -> gamma chi(c1), chi(c1) ->eta pi(+)pi(-) decays. The most dominant two- body structure observed is a(0)(980)(+/-) pi(-/+); a(0)(980)(+/-) -> eta pi(+/-.) line shape is modeled using a dispersion relation, and a significant nonzero a(0) (980) coupling to the eta'pi channel is measured. We observe chi(c1) -> a(2)(1700)pi production for the first time, with a significance larger than 17 sigma. The production of mesons with exotic quantum numbers, J(PC) = 1(-+), is investigated, and upper limits for the branching fractions chi(c1) -> pi(1)(1400)(+/-)pi(-/+) , chi(c1) -> pi(1)(1600)(+/-)pi(-/+) and chi(c1) -> pi 1(2015)(+/-)pi(-/+) with subsequent pi(1)(X)(+/-) -> eta pi(+/-) decay, are determined.

  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - 0031-9007 .- 1079-7114. ; 118:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Based on a sample of 1.31 x 10(9) J/Psi events collected with the BESIII detector, an amplitude analysis of the isospin-violating decays eta' -> pi(+)pi(-)pi(0) and eta' -> pi(0)pi(0)pi(0) is performed. A significant P-wave contribution from eta' -> rho(+/-)eta(-/+) is observed for the first time in eta' -> pi(+)pi(-)pi(0). The branching fraction is determined to be B(eta' -> rho(+/-)pi(-/+)) = (7.44 +/- 0.60 +/- 1.26 +/- 1.84) x 10(-4), where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic, and the third model dependent. In addition to the nonresonant S-wave component, there is a significant sigma meson component. The branching fractions of the combined S-wave components are determined to be B(eta' -> pi(+)pi(-)pi(0))(S) = (37.63 +/- 0.77 +/- 2.22 +/- 4.48) x 10(-4) and B(eta' -> pi(0)pi(0)pi(0)) = (35.22 +/- 0.82 +/- 2.54) x 10(-4), respectively. The latter one is consistent with previous BESIII measurements.

  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • An amplitude analysis of the KSKS system produced in radiative J/psi decays is performed using the (1310.6 +/- 7.0) x 10(6) nip decays collected by the BESIII detector. Two approaches are presented. A mass-dependent analysis is performed by parametrizing the KSKS invariant mass spectrum as a sum of Breit-aligner line shapes. Additionally, a mass-independent analysis is performed to extract a piecewise function that describes the dynamics of the KSKS system while making minimal assumptions about the properties and number of poles in the amplitude. The dominant amplitudes in the mass-dependent analysis include the f(0)(1710), f(0)(2200), and f(2)'(1525). The mass-independent results, which are made available as input for further studies, are consistent with those of the mass-dependent analysis and are useful for a systematic study of hadronic interactions. The branching fraction of radiative J/psi decays to KSKS is measured to be (8.1 +/- 0.4) x 10(-4), where the uncertainty is systematic and the statistical uncertainty is negligible.

    • An amplitude analysis of the pi(0)pi(0) system produced in radiative J/psi decays is presented. In particular, a piecewise function that describes the dynamics of the pi(0)pi(0) system is determined as a function of M pi(0)pi(0) from an analysis of the (1.311 +/- 0.011) x 10(9) J/psi decays collected by the BESIII detector. The goal of this analysis is to provide a description of the scalar and tensor components of the pi(0)pi(0) system while making minimal assumptions about the properties or number of poles in the amplitude. Such a model-independent description allows one to integrate these results with other related results from complementary reactions in the development of phenomenological models, which can then be used to directly fit experimental data to obtain parameters of interest. The branching fraction of J/psi -> pi(0)pi(0) is determined to be (1.15 +/- 0.05) x 10(-3), where the uncertainty is systematic only and the statistical uncertainty is negligible.

    • An amplitude analysis of the π0π0 system produced in radiative J/ψ decays is presented. In particular, a piecewise function that describes the dynamics of the π0π0 system is determined as a function of Mπ0π0 from an analysis of the (1.311±0.011)×109 J/ψ decays collected by the BESIII detector. The goal of this analysis is to provide a description of the scalar and tensor components of the π0π0 system while making minimal assumptions about the properties or number of poles in the amplitude. Such a model-independent description allows one to integrate these results with other related results from complementary reactions in the development of phenomenological models, which can then be used to directly fit experimental data to obtain parameters of interest. The branching fraction of J/ψ→γπ0π0 is determined to be (1.15±0.05)×10-3, where the uncertainty is systematic only and the statistical uncertainty is negligible.

    • Using the data sets taken at center-of-mass energies above 4 GeV by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring, we search for the reaction e(+)e(-) -> gamma(ISR) X(3872) -> gamma(ISR)pi(+)pi(-) J/psi via the Initial State Radiation technique. The production of a resonance with quantum numbers J(PC) = 1(++) such as the X(3872) via single photon e(+)e(-) annihilation is forbidden, but is allowed by a next-to-leading order box diagram. We do not observe a significant signal of X(3872), and therefore give an upper limit for the electronic width times the branching fraction Gamma B-X(3872)(ee)(X(3872) -> pi(+)pi(-) J/psi) < 0.13 eVat the 90% confidence level. This measurement improves upon existing limits by a factor of 46. Using the same final state, we also measure the electronic width of the psi(3686) to be Gamma(psi)(ee)(3686) ee = 2213 +/- 18(stat) +/- 99(sys) eV.

  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Using 2.93 fb(-1) of data taken at 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector operated at the BEPCII collider, we study the semileptonic decays D+ -> (K) over bar (0)e(+)nu(e) and D+ -> pi(0)e(+)nu(e). We measure the absolute decay branching fractions B(D+ -> (K) over bar (0)e(+)nu(e)) = (8.60 +/- 0.06 +/- 0.15) x 10(-2) and B(D+ -> pi(0)e(+)nu(e)) = (3.63 +/- 0.08 +/- 0.05) x 10(-3), where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. We also measure the differential decay rates and study the form factors of these two decays. With the values of |V-cs| and |V-cd| from Particle Data Group fits assuming Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) unitarity, we obtain the values of the form factors at q(2) = 0, f(+)(K)(0) = 0.725 +/- 0.004 +/- 0.012, and f(+)(pi)(0) = 0.622 +/- 0.012 +/- 0.003. Taking input from recent lattice QCD calculations of these form factors, we determine values of the CKM matrix elements |V-cs| = 0.944 +/- 0.005 +/- 0.015 +/- 0.024 and |V-cd| = 0.210 +/- 0.004 +/- 0.001 +/- 0.009, where the third uncertainties are theoretical.

  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present a study of the process e(+)e(-) -> pi(+/-) (D (D) over bar*)(-/+) using data samples of 1092 pb(-1) at root s = 4.23 GeV and 826 pb(-1) at root s = 4.26 GeV collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring. With full reconstruction of the D meson pair and the bachelor pi(+) in the final state, we confirm the existence of the charged structure Z(c) (3885)(-/+) in the (D (D) over bar*)(-/+) system in the two isospin processes e(+)e(-) -> pi(+DD)-D-0*(-) and e(+)e(-) -> pi+D-D*(0). By performing a simultaneous fit, the statistical significance of Zc(3885)(-/+) signal is determined to be greater than 10 sigma, and its pole mass and width are measured to be M-pole = (3881.7 +/- 1.6(stat) +/- 1.6(syst)) MeV/c(2) and Gamma(pole) = (26.6 +/- 2.0(stat) +/- 2.1(syst)) MeV, respectively. The Born cross section times the (D (D) over bar*)(-/+) branching fraction (sigma(e(+)e(-) -> pi(+/-)Z(c)(3885)(-/+)) x Br(Z(c)(3885)(-/+) -> (D (D) over bar*)(-/+) )) is measured to be (141.6 +/- 7.9(stat) +/- 12.3(syst)) pb at root s = 4.23 GeV and (108.4 +/- 6.9(stat) +/- 8.8(syst)) pb at root s = 4.26 GeV. The polar angular distribution of the pi(+) - Z(c)(3885)(-/+) system is consistent with the expectation of a quantum number assignment of J(P) = 1(+) for Z(c)(3885)(-/+).

    • Using a data set of 2.93 fb taken at a center-of-mass energy root s = 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we perform a search for an extra U(1) gauge boson, also denoted as a dark photon. We examine the initial state radiation reactions e(+)e(-) -> e(+)e(-) gamma(ISR) and e(+)e(-) -> mu(+)mu(-) gamma(ISR) for this search, where the dark photon would appear as an enhancement in the invariant mass distribution of the leptonic pairs. We observe no obvious enhancement in the mass range between 1.5 and 3.4 GeV/c(2) and set a 90% confidence level upper limit on the mixing strength of the dark photon and the Standard Model photon. We obtain a competitive limit in the tested mass range.

    • A measurement of the number of J/psi events collected with the BESIII detector in 2009 and 2012 is performed using inclusive decays of the J/psi. The number of J/psi events taken in 2009 is recalculated to be (223.7 +/- 1.4) x 10(6), which is in good agreement with the previous measurement, but with significantly improved precision due to improvements in the BESIII software. The number of J/psi events taken in 2012 is determined to be (1086.9 +/- 6.0) x 10(6). In total, the number of J/psi events collected with the BESIII detector is measured to be (1310.6 +/- 7.0) x 10(6), where the uncertainty is dominated by systematic effects and the statistical uncertainty is negligible.

    • The cross sections of e(+)e(-) -> pi(+) pi(-) hc at center-of-mass energies from 3.896 to 4.600 GeVare measured using data samples collected with the BESIII detector operating at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider. The cross sections are found to be of the same order of magnitude as those of e(+)e(-) -> pi(+) pi(-) J/psi and e(+)e(-) -> pi(+) pi(-) psi (2S), but the line shape is inconsistent with the Y states observed in the latter two modes. Two structures are observed in the e(+)e(-) -> pi(+) pi(-) hc cross sections around 4.22 and 4.39 GeV/c(2), which we call Y(4220)and Y(4390), respectively. A fit with a coherent sum of two Breit-Wigner functions results in a mass of (4218.4(- 4.5)(vertical bar 5.5) +/- 0.9) MeV/ c(2) and a width of (66.0(- 8.3)(vertical bar 12.3) +/- 0.4) MeV for the Y(4220), and a mass of (4391.5(- 6.8)(+6.3) +/- 1.0) MeV/c(2) and a width of (139.5(- 20.6)(+16.2) +/- 0.6) MeV for the Y(4390), where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones systematic. The statistical significance of Y(4220) and Y(4390) is 10 sigma over one structure assumption.

  • Ingår i: Physical Review D. - 2470-0010 .- 2470-0029. ; 98:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The process e(+)e(-) -> pK(S)(0)(n) over barK(-) + c.c. and its intermediate processes are studied for the first time, using data samples collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII at center-of-mass energies of 3.773, 4.008, 4.226, 4.258, 4.358, 4.416, and 4.600 GeV, with a total integrated luminosity of 7.4 fb(-1). The Born cross section of e(+)e(-) -> pK(S)(0)(n) over barK(-) + c.c. is measured at each center-of-mass energy, but no significant resonant structure in the measured cross-section line shape between 3.773 and 4.600 GeV is observed. No evident structure is detected in the pK(-), nK(S)(0), pK(S)(0), nK(+), p (n) over bar, or (KSK-)-K-0 invariant mass distributions except for Lambda(1520). The Born cross sections of e(+)e(-) -> Lambda(1520)(n) over barK(S)(0) + c.c. and e(+)e(-) -> Lambda(1520)(p) over barK(+) + c.c. are measured, and the 90% confidence level upper limits on the Born cross sections of e(+)e(-) -> Lambda(1520)(Lambda) over bar (1520) are determined at the seven center-of-mass energies. There is an evident difference in line shape and magnitude of the measured cross sections between e(+)e(-) -> Lambda(1520)(-> pK(-))(n) over barK(S)(0) and e(+)e(-) -> pK-(Lambda) over bar (1520)(-> (n) over barK(S)(0)).

    • By analyzing 2.93 fb(-1) of data collected at root s = 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector, we measure the absolute branching fraction B(D+ -> (K) over bar (0) (+)(mu)nu(mu)) = (8.72 +/- 0.07(stat). +/- 0.18(sys).) %, which is consistent with previous measurements within uncertainties but with significantly improved precision. Combining the Particle Data Group values of B(D-0 -> K- mu(+)nu(mu)), B(D+-> (K) over bar (0)e(+)nu(e)), and the lifetimes of the D-0 and D+ mesons with the value of B(D+ -> (K) over bar (0)mu(+)nu(mu)) measured in this work, we determine the following ratios of partial widths: Gamma (D-0 -> (K) over bar (-)mu(+)nu(mu))/Gamma (D+ -> (K) over bar (0)mu+nu(mu)) = 0.963 +/- 0.044 and Gamma (D+ -> (K) over bar (0) mu+nu(mu))/Gamma(D+ -> (K) over bar (0)e+nu(e)) = 0.988 +/- 0.033.
