• State of research in reuse of enterprise models : Systematic literature analysis of CAISE, EMMSAD, ICIS and INCOM
• 2012
• Ingår i: Proceedings of the IADIS International Conference on Information Systems. - 9789728939687 ; , s. 82-90
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• The importance of managing organizational knowledge of enterprises has been recognized for decades. The systematic development and reuse of organizational knowledge is expected to improve the competitiveness of the enterprise. While the practice of “reuse” is common in general computer science there is still a lack of surveys in regard to reuse in enterprise modeling. This document reviews four different papers presented at information systems conferences over the last seven years: CAISE, EMMSAD, ICIS, and INCOM. Our analysis indicates that the majority of research is realized by case studies, theoretical frameworks and mostly on business process modeling aspects of enterprise models.

• DESERV IT : A method for devolving service tasks in IT services
• 2021
• Ingår i: Business & Information Systems Engineering. - : Springer. - 2363-7005 .- 1867-0202. ; 63, s. 419-439
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• Nowadays, IT operations devolve many tasks in IT services to internal customers (i.e., IT self-service). The rationale for this service task devolvement is often to reduce the IT personnel’s workload. However, prior research has shown that IT operations often fail to achieve this goal. Existing methods for modeling and analyzing services fall short of supporting service providers in identifying and specifying service tasks suitable to be devolved to (internal) customers. This paper presents, therefore, the first method for devolving service tasks in IT services (DESERV IT). DESERV IT is a compound of four method components encompassing a joint meta-model, a visual notation for modeling IT services, and procedural recommendations. The DESERV IT meta-model extends the meta-model of service blueprinting by means of concepts required to analyze service task devolvement. DESERV IT is evaluated in four evaluation episodes. The results of the evaluation episodes show that DESERV IT is perceived as effective, useful, complete, and generalizable by experts in the IT service management and enterprise architecture discipline. This paper contributes to enterprise modeling by demonstrating the feasibility of DESERV IT in an example case and describing DESERV IT’s evolution during the evaluation episodes. DESERV IT supports practitioners (e.g., request fulfillment managers) in modeling and analyzing IT services.

• Adaptation of enterprise modeling methods for large language models
• 2024
• Ingår i: The practice of enterprise modeling. - Cham : Springer. - 9783031485824 - 9783031485831 ; , s. 3-18
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• Large language models (LLM) are considered by many researchers as promising technology for automating routine tasks. Results from applying LLM in engineering disciplines such as Enterprise Modeling also indicate potential for the support of modeling activities. LLMs are fine-tuned for specific tasks using chat based interaction through the use of prompts. This paper aims at a detailed investigation of the potential of LLMs in Enterprise Modeling (EM) by taking the perspective of EM method adaptation of selected parts of the modeling process within the context of using prompts to interrogate the LLM. The research question addressed is: What adaptations in EM methods have to be made to exploit the potential of prompt based interaction with LLMs? The main contributions are (1) a meta-model for prompt engineering that integrates the concepts of the modeling domain under consideration with the notation of the modeling language applied and the input and output of prompts, (2) an investigation into the general potential of LLM in EM methods and its application in the 4EM method, and (3) implications for enterprise modeling methods.

• Capability Driven Development : An Approach to Designing Digital Enterprises
• 2015
• Ingår i: Business & Information Systems Engineering. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 2363-7005 .- 1867-0202. ; 57:1, s. 15-25
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• The need for organizations to operate in changing environments is addressed by proposing an approach that integrates organizational development with information system (IS) development taking into account changes in the application context of the solution. This is referred to as Capability Driven Development (CDD). A meta-model representing business and IS designs consisting of goals, key performance indicators, capabilities, context and capability delivery patterns, is being proposed. The use of themeta-model is validated in three industrial case studies as part of an ongoing collaboration project, whereas one case is presented in the paper. Issues related to the use of the CDD approach, namely, CDD methodology and tool support are also discussed.

• Enterprise Ontology based Artefact Management
• 2008
• Ingår i: INFORMATIK 2008, Beherrschbare Systeme - dank Informatik. - 9783885792284 ; , s. 681-687
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• Structuring enterprise information and supporting knowledge management is a growing application field for enterprise ontologies. Based on an industrial case from automotive supplier industries, the paper proposes the use of an ontology for artefact management in engineering of dependable systems, illustrated by the tool ArtefactManager. Navigation and search in the ArtefactManager is performed using categorizations of artefacts by means of so-called taxonomic paths through the enterprise ontology. One of the main challenges is to permit evolution at least for those parts of the ontology which are used for categorizing artefacts. This paper introduces an approach to support the evolution process on the taxonomy level in conjunction with the level of categorizations.

• Large language models in requirements engineering for digital twins
• 2023
• Ingår i: CEUR Workshop Proceedings. - : CEUR-WS.
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• Can large language models (LLMs) be used for digital twin engineering (DTE)? Engineering digital twins (DTs) is a complex process consisting of several phases and involving different disciplines. We argue that an investigation of LLM use in DTE has to define what kinds of DTs are in focus and what DTE phases shall be supported. In our work, we concentrate on the early phases of DTE, with a particular focus on requirements engineering (RE), and we focus on supervisory and operational DTs. This paper investigates the quality of LLM output for defining requirements for DTs. The main contributions of our work are results from an experiment comparing requirements to a DT of an air conditioning facility of a domain expert and ChatGPT and conclusions for prompt engineering resulting from this experiment.

• On the Maturity of Service Process Modeling and Analysis Approaches
• 2016
• Ingår i: 19th International Conference, BIS 2016, Proceedings, Leipzig, July 6-8, 2016.. - Cham : Springer. - 9783319394251 - 9783319394268 ; , s. 356-367
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• Prior research has provided a number of approaches for the specification and analysis of service processes. However, little is known about their level of maturity regarding considered dimensions and characteristics. The present study represents a first step towards filling this gap. Drawing upon recent formalizations and delineations of service, a model for assessing the maturity of service modeling and analysis tools is derived. As part of a systematic literature review, it is applied to a set of 47 service blueprinting techniques to determine their maturity. The study’s findings indicate a high level of maturity regarding control flow and resource integration for most of the identified approaches. However, there are several shortcomings with respect to the input and output dimensions of the service process. The study proposes a set of research questions to stimulate future research and address the identified shortcomings.

• Reducing the IT Personnel’s Workload in IT Self-Services
• 2018
• Ingår i: SMR - Journal of Service Management Research. - : Nomos Verlag. - 2511-8676. ; 2:4, s. 19-32
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• IT operations aims to reduce the IT personnel’s workload in IT self-services, which is not self-evident. This study explores how the IT personnel’s workload can be reduced in IT self-services. A multiple-case study with five IT self-services was conducted. Data was collected from two German IT service providers and a European software company. The problem causing a non-reduction of the IT personnel’s workload in IT self-services is a lack of service production control and it is rooted in knowledge and skill gaps and a free IT self-service outcome. The two solutions to that problem comprise the adoption of five behavioral patterns: chargeback and limitation, standardization of the IT self-service, authorization of employee orders, showback, and training and support. This study is first revealing the mechanisms how IT self-services can be operated successfully from a service operations perspective.

• Capability Management in Digital Enterprises
• 2018
• Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (refereegranskat)abstract
• Putting capability management into practice requires both a solid theoretical foundation and realistic approaches. This book introduces a development methodology that integrates business and information system development and run-time adjustment based on the concept of capability by presenting the main findings of the CaaS project – the Capability-Driven Development (CDD) methodology, the architecture and components of the CDD environment, examples of real-world applications of CDD, and aspects of CDD usage for creating business value and new opportunities. Capability thinking characterizes an organizational mindset, putting capabilities at the center of the business model and information systems development. It is expected to help organizations and in particular digital enterprises to increase flexibility and agility in adapting to changes in their economic and regulatory environments. Capability management denotes the principles of how capability thinking should be implemented in an organization and the organizational means. This book is intended for anyone who wants to explore the opportunities for developing and managing context-dependent business capabilities and the supporting business services. It does not require a detailed understanding of specific development methods and tools, although some background knowledge and experience in information system development is advisable. The individual chapters have been written by leading researchers in the field of information systems development, enterprise modeling and capability management, as well as practitioners and industrial experts from these fields.

• 2012
• Ingår i: Business Information Systems Workshops. - Berlin, Heidelberg : Springer. - 9783642342271 - 9783642342288 ; , s. 139-152
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• Enterprise modeling (EM) is a discipline supporting business and IT alignment by providing means for capturing, visualizing and improving different perspectives of an enterprise, including processes, organization structures, products, systems, and business objectives. However, there is a lot of relevant information besides the one presented in enterprise models. Including such information into enterprise models or an integrated presentation of model and data view is supposed to ease decision making for stakeholders in organizations by providing contextual information for the decision at hand. Additional information however usually means additional complexity. This paper explores possibilities of an integrated presentation guided by the following questions: (1) What kind of complementary information should be visualized in an enterprise model? (2) How can the information be visualized? (3) How can the content of a specific visualization be adapted by the business stakeholder using it?Possibilities and benefits of enhancing the existing enterprise models with visualization of additional information are illustrated using a small case study.

• 2010
• Ingår i: Perspectives in Business Informatics Research 9th International Conference, BIR 2010, Rostock Germany, September 29–October 1, 2010. Proceedings. - Rostock : Springer. - 9783642161001 ; , s. 27-42
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• Enterprise knowledge modelling in general offers methods, tools and approaches for capturing knowledge about processes and products in formalized models in order to support organizational challenges. From the perspective of information systems development, the use of enterprise models traditionally is very strong in the earlier development phases, whereas approaches for applying enterprise models in later development phases exist, but are not as intensely researched and elaborated. We argue that enterprise models should be considered as carrier of enterprise knowledge, which can be used to a larger extent in creating actable solutions for enterprise problems. With competence supply as an example, the focus of the paper is on using enterprise models as interface for information searching. The main contributions of the paper are (1) to show that it is feasible and produces pertinent results to use enterprise models for expressing information demand, (2) architecture and implementation of an IT solution for this purpose and (3) lessons learned from validating this approach.

• 2024
• Ingår i: Complex Systems Informatics and Modeling Quarterly. - : Riga Technical University. - 2255-9922. ; 2024:39, s. 26-47
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• Managing and dealing with variability in business processes and the IT landscape is a common challenge in the everyday practice of most enterprises and organizations. Recent studies have observed that digital transformation, Internet-of-Things solutions and the introduction of artificial intelligence cause changes and challenges in enterprises that simultaneously require variability on several levels, for instance, business processes, data architecture, and services. Enterprise architecture models are considered a suitable way to visualize and manage dependencies between different levels of an enterprise. However, the management of variability in enterprise architectures has not received much attention in scientific research. This article† aims to contribute to a better understanding of future investigation needs. Using a systematic literature analysis, the article structures the existing research work in the field and examines real-world challenges of variability based on a case study. We argue that there is a need for new constructs in enterprise architecture models that allow for expressing dependencies between variations on different enterprise architecture layers.

• 2019
• Ingår i: Complex Systems Informatics and Modeling Quarterly. - : Riga Technical University. - 2255-9922. ; 20, s. 72-88
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• Financial industries are undergoing a digital transformation of their products, services, overall business models. Part of this digitalization in banking aims at automating most of the manual work in payment handling and integrating the workflows of involved service providers. The focus of the work presented in this paper is on fraud discovery and steps to fully automate it. Fraud discovery in financial transactions has become an important priority for banks. Fraud is increasing significantly with the expansion of modern technology and global communication, which results in substantial damages for the banks. Instant payment (IP) transactions cause new challenges for fraud detection due to the requirement of short processing time. The paper investigates the possibility to use artificial intelligence in IP fraud detection. The main contributions of our work are (a) an analysis of problem relevance from business and literature perspective, (b) a proposal for technological support for using AI in fraud detection of instant payment transactions, and (c) a feasibility study of selected fraud detection approaches.

• 2013
• Ingår i: Manufacturing Modelling, Management, and Control. - : Elsevier. - 9783902823359 ; , s. 987-992
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• Many industries are facing a continuously changing business environment which partly is caused by new regulations and bylaws from regulating authorities. Ensuring compliance can cause substantial efforts, since conformance checks of business processes and organizational structures often have to be performed manually. The paper contributes to reducing these efforts by proposing tool support for analyzing enterprise models with the aim to use patterns for identifying potentially non-compliant parts of such models. Design patterns have been a fundamental tool for software development for many years. The approach of having predefined solutions can be beneficial for the purpose of compliance assessment as well. To this end a method to search and detect patterns within enterprise models is an important step. Based on a motivating scenario from automotive supplier industries, the paper proposes an approach and introduces a prototypical tool that finds similar matches to a given pattern by use of template matching with the normalized cross correlation as metric.

• On Application Potential of Robotic Process Automation in Small Enterprises
• 2022
• Ingår i: CEUR Workshop Proceedings. - : CEUR-WS. ; , s. 70-78
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• The potential of Robotic Process Automation (RPA) for enterprises is undisputed and includes automation of routine tasks, improvement of data quality or reduction of monotonous tasks. However, our observation from projects with enterprises is that much of this potential is clearly visible in larger enterprises but not so obvious in small enterprises. SMEs often show a lower readiness to invest time and resources in new technologies. Thus, application fields requiring an investment are not exploited by SMEs. So, what is the real application potential of RPA in SMEs? Are there typical application scenarios with potentially high benefits that SMEs should focus on? This is the focus of this paper. We will address the question of application potential primarily from a qualitative perspective, i.e. the aim is not to quantify the potential but to qualify the application fields. The contributions of this paper are (1) an innovative dataspace as an example case for business model development, (2) an approach to support business model development based on data value chains and reference enterprise architectures, and (3) analysis of existing literature in the field. © 2020 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

• 2023
• Ingår i: Complex Systems Informatics and Modeling Quarterly. - : Riga Technical University. - 2255-9922. ; 2023:34, s. 84-105
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• Substantial application potential in enterprises is commonly attributed to Robotic Process Automation (RPA). This potential encompasses automation of routine tasks, improvement of data quality, improvement of process stability, or reduction of monotonous tasks. However, our observation from projects with enterprises is that this potential is visible in bigger companies, but not so obvious in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). SMEs often show a lower readiness to invest time and resources in new technologies and, thus, hesitate to explore new technology applications unless they see a clear business case. This article investigates the application potential of RPA in SMEs by trying to identify typical application scenarios with potentially high benefits that SMEs should focus on. The application potential is primarily addressed from a qualitative perspective, i.e., the aim is not to quantify the potential but to qualify the application fields. The contributions of this article are (1) a structured literature review of the state of RPA use in SMEs, (2) RPA application scenarios visible in the literature and functionality of RPA platforms to support these scenarios, and (3) experiences from implementing three SME-focused use cases with off-the-shelf RPA tools and a concluding evaluation by experts.

• Ingår i: The Practice of Enterprise Modeling. - Cham : Springer. - 9783030634780 - 9783030634797 ; , s. 58-72
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• The importance of involving enterprise stakeholders in organizational transformation and development processes has been acknowledged in many scholarly publications in the context of business information systems research. Method and tool support for this is particularly explored and provided by the field of participatory enterprise modelling (PEM). In PEM, modelling sessions involving all relevant stakeholders and guided by a modelling facilitator are a central element. However, the published work on PEM is not very extensive with respect to structuring such modelling sessions, in particular when combining analytical and design parts. It is hence hard for novice modelling facilitators to plan a workshop, to switch between different workshop phases and to react to unforeseen events. Since existing literature covers only generic aspects of workshop moderation, we fill this gap in providing an initial model that can serve to inform, structure and guide PEM sessions. The model has been developed by analysing examples from real-world modelling sessions.

• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• In public and local administration contexts, the organizational structures depend on bureaucratic aspects. This often implies that people are engaged in offices and their allocation come from emergencies and political factors instead of rational motivations related to knowledge, competences and profiles. In most cases, such situations become gangrenous and generate dissatisfaction and low productivity. The objective of our work is applying competence management, skill gap analysis and a study of the existing organizational structures to point out the functional unit with the most critical situation in terms of allocated employees and to suggest a solution according to the complex laws, internal regulation for the staff management and trade-union influences. The proposed approach identifies the real gaps that create inefficiencies and suggests the people to engage in learning programs by focusing exactly on what the organizations need with respect to what the employees have. It happens by elaborating a priority scale on the base of existing hierarchies, relationships, logistic constraints and other aspects with the aim, above all, of enhancing the identified unit and the local administration itself.

• ERP systems are characterized by a high degree of complexity what is challenging to replicate in the classroom environment. However, there is a strong industry demand for students having ERP training during their studies at universities. This paper reports a joint effort of University of Rostock and Riga Technical University to enhance introductory ERP training by introducing an internationalization dimension in the standard curriculum. Both universities collaborated to develop an international ERP case study as an extension of the SAP ERP Global Bikes Incorporated case study. The training approach, study materials and appropriate technical environment have been developed. The international ERP case study is performed at both universities where students work collaboratively on running business processes in the SAP ERP system. Students’ teams at each university are responsible for business process activities assigned to them and they are jointly responsible for completing the process. The case study execution observations and students’ evaluations suggest that the international ERP provides a good insight on the real-life challenges associated in using the ERP systems in the international context.

• The SPARQL query language has been proposed as a simple language for querying graph-structured data on the Semantic Web. However, users have to write queries that must conform to the SPARQL syntax. This requirement might be alleviated using a SPARQL query builder that suggests relevant parts of the query. But, up to now, only a few basic comparisons of such tools exist. The goal of this paper is to develop such a comparison as the result of a structured literature analysis.

• Ingår i: The Practice of Enterprise Modeling. - : Springer. - 9783031485824 - 9783031485831 ; , s. 37-53
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• AI-as-a-Service (AIaaS) combines Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cloud computing to make AI accessible to enterprises without implementing complex solutions or technologies on-premise. Many small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) that lack competencies in the AI and technology sector consider AIaaS as a promising option to implement AI solutions. However, the differences between AIaaS and AI on-premise have not attracted much research. The intention of this paper is to contribute to this area by analysing the literature in the field and investigating a concrete example in more detail. Exploring AIaaS is crucial to better understand the opportunities and limitations of AI services. The contributions of the paper are (a) an analysis of the literature on AIaaS to identify factors affecting AI implementation and how AIaaS solutions differ from on-premise solutions when introducing AI in a company, (b) a case study of an SME that compares AIaaS and AI on-premise in practice, and (c) the application potential of a morphological box to compare AIaaS and AI on-premise.

• Ingår i: Modellierung 2020. - Bonn : Gesellschaft für Informatik. - 9783885796961 ; , s. 61-76
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract

• Identifying HCI patterns for the support of participatory enterprise modeling on multi-touch tables
• 2019
• Ingår i: The practice of enterprise modeling. - Cham : Springer. - 9783030351502 - 9783030351519 ; , s. 118-133
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• This paper deals with the question of how software enabling participatory enterprise modeling on a multi-touch table should be designed. We will present a pre-selection of existing HCI patterns addressing the requirements which come along with collaboratively creating enterprise models on a shared workspace. Moreover, we examined a software prototype based on a task model and video analysis. The videos show participatory modeling sessions and give hint on frequent activities and deficiencies of the prototype. Based on our results, we will give recommendations of HCI patterns which should be applied when designing software tools for participatory enterprise modeling on multi-touch tables.

• 2016
• Ingår i: BIS 2016 International Workshops, Leipzig, July 6-8, 2016.. - Cham : Springer. - 9783319524634 - 9783319524641 ; , s. 123-135
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• An important aspect of participatory enterprise modeling is the work in a group. However, does the collaboration of the group members change depending on which medium is used to generate the models? Are there for example differences in the group’s behavior when working with a plastic wall, similar to a whiteboard, or with a multi-touch table? Based on the state of research and theoretical foundations of group work as well as previous research, relevant research issues are raised and an experimental design will be described in order to examine possible differences in the group work depending on the medium. Relevant aspects will be forms of cooperation, i.e. verbal and nonverbal contributions of the participants, but also territorial behavior and group performance.

• Large Language Models in Enterprise Modeling : Case Study and Experiences
• 2024
• Ingår i: International Conference on Model-Driven Engineering and Software Development. - : Science and Technology Publications, Lda. - 9789897586828 ; , s. 74-85
• Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
• In many engineering disciplines, modeling is considered an essential part of the development process. Examples are model-based development in software engineering, enterprise engineering in industrial organization, or digital twin engineering in manufacturing. In these engineering disciplines, the application of modeling usually includes different phases such as target setting, requirements elicitation, architecture specification, system design, or test case development. The focus of the work presented in this paper is on the early phases of systems development, specifically on requirements engineering (RE). More specifically, we address the question of whether domain experts can be substituted by artificial intelligence (AI) usage. The aim of our work is to contribute to a more detailed understanding of the limits of large language models (LLMs). In this work, we widen the investigation to include not only processes but also required roles, legal frame conditions, and resources. Furthermore, we aim to develop not only a rough process overview but also a detailed process description. For this purpose, we use a process from hospitality management and compare the output of ChatGPT, one of the most popular LLMs currently, with the view of a domain expert.

• A survey on challenges of semantics application in the Internet of Things domain
• 2017
• Ingår i: Applied Computer Systems. - : De Gruyter Open. - 2255-8691. ; 21:1, s. 13-21
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• The Internet of Things (IoT), a global Internet-based system of computing devices and machines, is one of the most significant trends in the information technology area. An accepted unified communication approach would be a prerequisite for its mass adoption. Semantic technologies (Semantic Web) have been advocated as enablers of unified communication. However, while there are particular advancements in research on application of Semantic Web in the IoT domain, the dynamic and complex nature of the IoT often requires case specific solutions hard to be applied widely. In the present survey, the semantic technology challenges in the IoT domain are amalgamated to provide background for further studies in the use of semantic technologies in the IoT.

• Ingår i: Research Challenges in Information Science. - Cham : Springer. - 9783031330797 - 9783031330803 ; , s. 585-592
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• Data is the raw material of digitization, but its economic use and potential economic benefits are not always clear. Therefore, we would like to show that the processing of data, especially according to FAIR principles, plays an enormous role in enabling business models and improving existing business models. This is being tested within the EU funded project Marispace-X, part of the Gaia-X initiative. The maritime domain in particular currently still suffers from a lack of digitization: while as much data is being collected as ever before, this data is often kept in silos and hardly reused or even shared. This work therefore involved linking the FAIR principles to a data value chain, which together with business model dimensions form a data value matrix. This application of this matrix was carried out together with practice partners using the example of maritime data processing in the use case “offshore wind” and can be used and adapted as an analysis tool for data-driven business models.

• Ingår i: Advances in Enterprise Engineering XVI. - Cham : Springer. - 9783031341748 - 9783031341755 ; , s. 90-105
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• Digital transformation has resulted in the availability of more data in higher quality and business models aiming at exploiting them, both on the level of individual enterprises and digital ecosystems. Among the essential elements of business models are the value offering made to target groups and the value creation required for this. Using the example of the maritime dataspace MARISPACE-X, the paper investigates an approach to support business model development combining data value chains with data sovereignty based on the FAIR principles as differentiating feature. The contributions of this paper are (1) an innovative dataspace as example case for business model development, (2) an approach to integrate FAIR principles into data value chains, and (3) analysis of existing literature in the field.

• Finding patterns in biochemical reaction networks
• 2016
• Ingår i: PeerJ Preprints. - : PeerJ. - 2167-9843. ; 4
• Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
• Computational models in biology encode molecular and cell biological processes. Many of them can be represented as biochemical reaction networks. Studying such networks, one is often interested in systems that share similar reactions and mechanisms. Typical goals are to understand the parts of a model, to identify reoccurring patterns, and to find biologically relevant motifs. The large number of models are available for such a search, but also the large size of models require automated methods. Specifically the generic problem of finding patterns in large networks is computationally hard. As a consequence, only partial solutions for a structural analysis of models exist. Here we introduce a tool chain that identifies reoccurring patterns in biochemical reaction networks. We started this work with an evaluation of algorithms for the identification of frequent subgraphs. Then, we created graph representations of existing SBML models and ran the most suitable algorithm on the data. The result was a list of reaction patterns together with statistics about the occurrence of each pattern in the data set. The approach was validated with 575 SBML models from the curated branch of BioModels. We analysed how the resulting patterns confirm with expectations from the literature and from previous model statistics. In the future, the identified patterns can serve as a tool to measure the similarity of models

• Potential benefits of enterprise architecture management in the digital transformation Process
• 2020
• Ingår i: Complex Systems Informatics and Modeling Quarterly. - : RTU Press. - 2255-9922. ; 24, s. 49-60
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• Digital transformation has an increasing influence on business processes and new business models. A successful digital transformation in enterprises requires a holistic IT infrastructure in order to meet changing business requirements. Enterprises face the challenge of combining business and IT to benefit from existing technological attainments in the digital age. As Enterprise Architecture Management (EAM) is supposed to support companies’ transformation processes, it has consequently moved into the focus of large companies and small and medium-sized enterprises. Previous studies have considered the benefits of EAM taking not into account factors regarding the digital transformation process. The present study is therefore intended to close this gap. This article builds on a conceptual model based on a qualitative design with case studies. It presents a quantitative study that investigates the empirical relation between several indicators and the dependent variable “Benefits of EAM” in the digital transformation process. The results show that the indicators “IT Landscape”, “Internal Business” and “EAM Establishment” positively and significantly influence the benefits of EAM in the digital transformation process.

• Technologies for a diagnostic technique for HVAC systems using IoT and cloud-based architecture
• 2023
• Ingår i: 2023 International Interdisciplinary PhD Workshop (IIPhDW). - : IEEE. - 9781665410847
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• Optimizing the energy efficiency in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems is becoming increasingly important as costs rise and the environment needs to be protected. Existing plants are often not adequately digitized to identify unnecessary excess consumption. The overall goal of the project described in this work is the development of an Internet of Things (IoT)-based diagnostic technique for those systems. Our intended system will allow the evaluation of the performance of HVAC systems with as few additional measurement points as possible. The main contributions of this paper are (a) a comparison of different cloud providers, (b) a description of the architecture of the system, and (c) an initial evaluation of the value added to the case study enterprise by the system in use.

• MAPPER Collaboration Platform for Knowledge-Intensive Engineering Processes
• 2010
• Ingår i: BIS 2010. - Berlin : Springer.
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• The paper presents a collaboration platform with model-based configurable services. It is a part of a more general approach developed by the EU project MAPPER that enables distributed collaboration over adaptive knowledge-intensive engineering processes. In a model-configured infrastructure, active knowledge models (AKMs) of products and processes become the basis for user-composed services, tools and methodologies available to users in customisable workplaces. A multi-layered architecture that offers a powerful means for configuration of services for particular application areas has been described. The presented approach and the collaboration platform have been experimented with in a collaborative engineering use case in electronic industry that integrated two dispersed SMEs. Experiences learned are summarized.
