  • Anisotropic strain and phonon deformation potentials in GaN
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Physical Review B. Condensed Matter and Materials Physics. - 1098-0121 .- 1550-235X. ; 75:19, s. 195217-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report optical phonon frequency studies in anisotropically strained c -plane- and a -plane-oriented GaN films by generalized infrared spectroscopic ellipsometry and Raman scattering spectroscopy. The anisotropic strain in the films is obtained from high-resolution x-ray diffraction measurements. Experimental evidence for splitting of the GaN E1 (TO), E1 (LO), and E2 phonons under anisotropic strain in the basal plane is presented, and their phonon deformation potentials c E1 (TO), c E1 (LO), and c E2 are determined. A distinct correlation between anisotropic strain and the A1 (TO) and E1 (LO) frequencies of a -plane GaN films reveals the a A1 (TO), b A1 (TO), a E1 (LO), and b E1 (LO) phonon deformation potentials. The a A1 (TO) and b A1 (TO) are found to be in very good agreement with previous results from Raman experiments. Our a A1 (TO) and a E1 (LO) phonon deformation potentials agree well with recently reported theoretical estimations, while b A1 (TO) and b E1 (LO) are found to be significantly larger than the theoretical values. A discussion of the observed differences is presented. © 2007 The American Physical Society.

  • Structural, mechanical, and magnetic properties of GaFe3N thin films
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Journal of Vacuum Science & Technology. A. Vacuum, Surfaces, and Films. - : American Vacuum Society. - 0734-2101 .- 1520-8559. ; 34:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Using the density-functional theory, the structural, mechanical, and magnetic properties were investigated for different GaFe3N configurations: ferromagnetic, ferrimagnetic, paramagnetic, and nonmagnetic. Ferrimagnetic and high-spin ferromagnetic states exhibit the lowest energy and are the competing ground states as the total energy difference is 0.3 meV/atom only. All theoretically predicted values could be fully confirmed by experiments. For this, the authors synthesized phase pure, homogeneous, and continuous GaFe3N films by combinatorial reactive direct current magnetron sputtering. Despite the low melting point of gallium, the authors succeeded in the growth of GaFe3N films at a temperature of 500 degrees C. Those thin films exhibit a lattice parameter of 3.794 angstrom and an elastic modulus of 226620 GPa. Magnetic susceptibility measurements evidence a magnetic phase transitions at 8.060.1 K. The nearly saturated magnetic moment at 65 T is about 1.6 mu B/Fe and is close to the theoretically determined magnetic moment for a ferrimagnetic ordering (1.72 lB/Fe).

  • Round-robin evaluation of ISO 20340 annex a test method
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: NACE - International Corrosion Conference Series. - 9781510821354 ; , s. 53-64
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Among available standardized test methods for evaluating the performance of marine and offshore coatings, ISO 20340 Annex A is widely used.1 It is well known that tests performed on presumably identical materials in presumably similar circumstances do not in general yield to identical results. Such deviation is attributed to unavoidable random errors inherent in every test procedure and the fact that the parameters that may influence the outcome of a test cannot all be completely controlled. One consequence of such deviation is that different coating selection may be obtained upon where and how the test is performed, as ISO 20340 Annex A includes acceptance criteria for the selection of coating systems. Thus, to establish the precision of ISO 20340 Annex A, six laboratories participated in a round-robin evaluation of ISO 20340 Annex A test method for the first time. The aim was to estimate the repeatability and the reproducibility of this test upon laboratory, and eventually to determine how to improve the test method and the standard for the further revision of the standard. Five different painted systems applied on abrasive blasted steel were selected so that it included good and poor systems. The results of this study in terms of scribe creep and pull-off strength data were analyzed regarding the repeatability within a laboratory and lab-To-lab reproducibility.

  • Novel loci for childhood body mass index and shared heritability with adult cardiometabolic traits.
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: PLoS genetics. - : Public Library of Science (PLoS). - 1553-7404. ; 16:10
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The genetic background of childhood body mass index (BMI), and the extent to which the well-known associations of childhood BMI with adult diseases are explained by shared genetic factors, are largely unknown. We performed a genome-wide association study meta-analysis of BMI in 61,111 children aged between 2 and 10 years. Twenty-five independent loci reached genome-wide significance in the combined discovery and replication analyses. Two of these, located near NEDD4L and SLC45A3, have not previously been reported in relation to either childhood or adult BMI. Positive genetic correlations of childhood BMI with birth weight and adult BMI, waist-to-hip ratio, diastolic blood pressure and type 2 diabetes were detected (Rg ranging from 0.11 to 0.76, P-values <0.002). A negative genetic correlation of childhood BMI with age at menarche was observed. Our results suggest that the biological processes underlying childhood BMI largely, but not completely, overlap with those underlying adult BMI. The well-known observational associations of BMI in childhood with cardio-metabolic diseases in adulthood may reflect partial genetic overlap, but in light of previous evidence, it is also likely that they are explained through phenotypic continuity of BMI from childhood into adulthood.

  • A catalog of genetic loci associated with kidney function from analyses of a million individuals
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Nature Genetics. - : NATURE PUBLISHING GROUP. - 1061-4036 .- 1546-1718. ; 51:6, s. 957-972
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is responsible for a public health burden with multi-systemic complications. Through transancestry meta-analysis of genome-wide association studies of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and independent replication (n = 1,046,070), we identified 264 associated loci (166 new). Of these,147 were likely to be relevant for kidney function on the basis of associations with the alternative kidney function marker blood urea nitrogen (n = 416,178). Pathway and enrichment analyses, including mouse models with renal phenotypes, support the kidney as the main target organ. A genetic risk score for lower eGFR was associated with clinically diagnosed CKD in 452,264 independent individuals. Colocalization analyses of associations with eGFR among 783,978 European-ancestry individuals and gene expression across 46 human tissues, including tubulo-interstitial and glomerular kidney compartments, identified 17 genes differentially expressed in kidney. Fine-mapping highlighted missense driver variants in 11 genes and kidney-specific regulatory variants. These results provide a comprehensive priority list of molecular targets for translational research.
