  • The BALDER Beamline at the MAX IV Laboratory
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Journal of Physics: Conference Series. - : IOP Publishing. - 1742-6588 .- 1742-6596. ; 712:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) includes well-established methods to study the local structure around the absorbing element - extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS), and the effective oxidation number or to quantitatively determine the speciation of an element in a complex matrix - X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES). The increased brilliance and intensities available at the new generation of synchrotron light sources makes it possible to study, in-situ and in-operando, much more dilute systems with relevance for natural systems, as well as the micro-scale variability and dynamics of chemical reactions on the millisecond time-scale. The design of the BALDER beamline at the MAX IV Laboratory 3 GeV ring has focused on a high flux of photons in a wide energy range, 2.4-40 keV, where the K-edge is covered for the elements S to La, and the L 3-edge for all elements heavier than Sb. The overall design of the beamline will allow large flexibility in energy range, beam size and data collection time. The other focus of the beamline design is the possibility to perform multi-technique analyses on samples. Development of sample environment requires focus on implementation of auxiliary methods in such a way that techniques like Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, UV-Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and/or mass spectrometry can be performed simultaneously as the XAS study. It will be a flexible system where different instruments can be plugged in and out depending on the needs for the particular investigation. Many research areas will benefit from the properties of the wiggler based light source and the capabilities to perform in-situ and in-operando measurements, for example environmental and geochemical sciences, nuclear chemistry, catalysis, materials sciences, and cultural heritage.

  • Generalization of three-dimensional golden-angle radial acquisition to reduce eddy current artifacts in bSSFP CMR imaging
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Magnetic Resonance Materials in Physics Biology and Medicine. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0968-5243 .- 1352-8661. ; 34, s. 109-118
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose We propose a novel generalization of the three-dimensional double-golden-angle profile ordering, which allows for whole-heart volumetric imaging with retrospective binning and reduced eddy current artifacts. Methods A novel theory bridging the gap between the three-dimensional double golden-angle trajectory, and the two-dimensional tiny-golden-angle trajectory is presented. This enables a class of double golden-angle profile orderings with a smaller angular distance between successivek-space readouts. The novel profile orderings were evaluated through simulations, phantom experiments, and in vivo imaging. Comparisons were made to the original double-golden-angle trajectory. Image uniformity and off-resonance sensitivity were evaluated using phantom measurements, and qualitative image quality was assessed using in vivo images acquired in a healthy volunteer. Results The proposed theory successfully reduced the angular step while maintaining image uniformity after binning. Simulations revealed a slow degradation with decreasing angular steps and an increasing number of physiological bins. The phantom images showed a definite improvement in image uniformity and increased robustness to off-resonance, and in vivo imaging corroborated those findings. Conclusion Reducing the angular step in cardio-respiratory-binned golden-angle imaging shows potential for overcoming eddy current-induced image artifacts associated with 3D golden-angle radial imaging.

  • Preformulation evaluation of AZD1305, an oxabispidine intended for oral and intravenous treatment
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Drug Development and Industrial Pharmacy. - : Informa UK Limited. - 0363-9045 .- 1520-5762. ; 38:1, s. 19-31
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Aim: AZD1305 is a novel, water-soluble investigational antiarrhythmic agent for restoration and maintenance of sinus rhythm in atrial fibrillation patients. The present studies were performed to evaluate the possibility for further development of the compound. Methods: A set of technical approaches were used, including X-ray powder diffractometry, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetrical analysis, dynamic vapor sorption, scanning electron microscopy, salt screen, and liquid chromatography. Results: AZD1305 is a crystalline oxabispidine and its neutral form is a base with a pK(a) of 9.9. The substance degrades with higher temperature and lower pH. The free base of the solid substance is stable at 25 degrees C (closed container), 40 degrees C/75% relative humidity (open container), and at 50 degrees C (closed container) for at least 3 months. The free base of AZD1305 is polymorphic with two known forms. Both forms are non-hygroscopic ansolvates with melting points of approximately 90 degrees C. No salt was found with overall improved properties. The substance had a strong odor, which was reduced by increased particle size. Conclusions: The free base of AZD1305 seemed to be the most suitable agent for product development even though it has a fairly low melting point and occurred as two different crystal forms. Form B was the most stable thermodynamically in the temperature interval of interest.
