  • Combination of Tevatron Searches for the Standard Model Higgs Boson in the W+W- Decay Mode
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - 0031-9007 .- 1079-7114. ; 104:6, s. 061802-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We combine searches by the CDF and D0 Collaborations for a Higgs boson decaying to W+W-. The data correspond to an integrated total luminosity of 4.8 (CDF) and 5.4 (D0) fb(-1) of p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. No excess is observed above background expectation, and resulting limits on Higgs boson production exclude a standard model Higgs boson in the mass range 162-166 GeV at the 95% C.L.

  • ERG Rearrangement Metastasis Patterns in Locally Advanced Prostate Cancer
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Urology. - : Elsevier BV. - 0090-4295 .- 1527-9995. ; 75:4, s. 762-767
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • OBJECTIVES To interrogate multifocal prostate cancer (PCa) to determine its predilection for metastasis, using ERG rearrangement as marker of clonality. A hallmark of PCa is that distinct tumor foci may arise independently, which has important biological and clinical implications. Recent studies characterizing ERG-rearranged PCa possessing intrafocal homogeneity but interfocal heterogeneity support this hypothesis. METHODS We studied 26 patients who underwent prostatectomy and lymphadenectomy with at least 2 distinct PCa foci and 1 lymph node (LN) metastasis. Each focus was assessed for size, Gleason score, ERG rearrangement, and TMPRSS2-ERG transcript. RESULTS Fifteen of 26 cases exhibited interfocal homogeneity with regard to ERG rearrangement (ie, presence vs absence of ERG rearrangement). ERG rearrangement was present in all foci for 6 and absent in all foci for 9 cases. Two cases revealed interfocal heterogeneity with regard to rearrangement mechanism ( ie, rearrangement through insertion or deletion). Eight of 26 cases revealed interfocal heterogeneity with regard to rearrangement status. In all cases with at least 1 ERG rearranged focus, we found the corresponding LN metastasis harboring an ERG rearrangement. Interestingly, in a subset of cases the rearrangement status in the LN did not correspond to size or Gleason score. All but 2 ERG rearranged foci had detectable TMPRSS2-ERG transcript levels. CONCLUSIONS When multifocal PCa demonstrates both ERG-positive and ERG-negative foci, the positive foci have a greater predilection for metastasis. Larger studies are needed to confirm the potential additional risk an ERG rearranged focus confers on the likelihood of disease progression. UROLOGY 75: 762-767, 2010. (C) 2010 Elsevier Inc.

  • Criteria for ferromagnetic-insulator-ferromagnetic tunneling
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials. - 0304-8853 .- 1873-4766. ; 240:03-jan, s. 86-91
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Rowell criteria, commonly used to identify tunneling in magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJ), are scrutinized. While neither the exponential-thickness dependence of the conductivity nor fits of non-linear transport data are found to be reliable tunneling criteria, the temperature-dependent conductivity does remain a solid criterion. Based on experimental studies of the bias and temperature-dependent resistance and magnetoresistance of MTJs, with and without shorted barriers, a new set of criteria is formulated.

  • A 4-mb toggle MRAM based on a novel bit and switching method
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: IEEE transactions on magnetics. - 0018-9464 .- 1941-0069. ; 41:1, s. 132-136
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • 4-Mb magnetoresistive random access memory (MRAM) with a novel magnetic bit cell and toggle switching mode is presented. The circuit was designed in a five level metal, 0.18-mum complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor process with a bit cell size of 1.55 mum(2). The new bit cell uses a balanced synthetic antiferromagnetic free layer and a phased write pulse sequence to provide robust switching performance with immunity from half-select disturbs. This switching mode greatly improves the operational performance of the MRAM as compared to conventional MRAM. A detailed description of this 4-Mb toggle MRAM is presented.

  • Dynamic spin-polarized resonant tunneling in magnetic tunnel junctions
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - 0031-9007 .- 1079-7114. ; 99:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Precisely engineered tunnel junctions exhibit a long sought effect that occurs when the energy of the electron is comparable to the potential energy of the tunneling barrier. The resistance of metal-insulator-metal tunnel junctions oscillates with an applied voltage when electrons that tunnel directly into the barrier's conduction band interfere upon reflection at the classical turning points: the insulator-metal interface and the dynamic point where the incident electron energy equals the potential barrier inside the insulator. A model of tunneling between free electron bands using the exact solution of the Schrodinger equation for a trapezoidal tunnel barrier qualitatively agrees with experiment.

  • Origin of the breakdown of Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin-based tunneling models
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Physical Review B. Condensed Matter and Materials Physics. - 1098-0121 .- 1550-235X. ; 74:21
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The tunneling conductance of three varieties of CoFeB/MgO/CoFeB magnetic tunnel junctions depends quadratically on the applied voltage to anomalously high biases. Within the framework traditional of WKB models, this implies unphysical tunnel barrier parameters: heights near 20 eV, or widths corresponding to fewer than two MgO lattice constants. We demonstrate that the failure of such models to yield physically reasonable parameters originates from an experimentally unavoidable distribution of barrier thicknesses, possibly acting synergistically with the band structure of the barrier material. This implies that existing WKB models may lead to physically incorrect barrier parameters for contemporary tunnel junctions, magnetic or otherwise.

  • Temperature and angular dependences of dynamic spin-polarized resonant tunneling in CoFeB/MgO/NiFe junctions
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Journal of Applied Physics. - : AIP Publishing. - 0021-8979 .- 1089-7550. ; 103:7, s. 07A904-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The bias dependence of tunneling magnetoresistance oscillations due to dynamic resonant tunneling in CoFeB/MgO/NiFe magnetic tunnel junctions was studied as functions of temperature and the relative magnetization angle of the two magnetic layers. The effect of temperature is consistent with thermal smearing, while that of the relative magnetic orientation was typical of a spin valve. A model of tunneling between spin-split free electron bands using the exact solution of the Schrodinger equation for a trapezoidal tunnel barrier agrees with experiment, underscoring the simplicity of dynamic resonant tunneling.

  • Why do people want a paper copy of their electronic patient record?
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: 13th World Congress on Medical and Health Informatics, Medinfo 2010. ; 160:Pt 1, s. 676-80
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Changes have recently been passed in the Norwegian legislation, allowing for more exchange of patient information between health personnel. These legal changes came as a result of a long and still ongoing debate concerning the potential conflict between confidentiality issues and patient safety as health care is getting more fragmented. At the same time, an increasing number of patients now make use of their legal right to access their patient record. In this paper, we shed light on some of the reasons why patients request a copy of their record. We report the preliminary results from an interview study in which seventeen patients who have asked for a copy of their patient record following a hospital stay have been interviewed. In our interview study, securing transmission of information between health care workers is one of the main reasons for requesting a copy of the record. We will discuss how this finding might contribute to the ongoing debate.

  • Clinical documentation as a source of information for patients- possibilities and limitations
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Studies in Health Technology and Informatics. - : IOS Press. - 9781614992882 - 1614992886 ; 192, s. 793-7
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Recent legislation in many countries has given patients the right to access their own patient records. Making health-care professionals' assessments and decisions more transparent by giving patients access to their records is expected to provide patients with useful health information and reduce the power imbalance between patient and provider. We conducted both a mail survey and a face-to-face interview study, including patients who had requested a paper copy of their patient records (EPR), to explore their experiences. For many study participants, a view of their records filled in holes in the oral information they previously received. They had problems understanding parts of what they read, but rarely asked for help. Instead they searched for explanations on the Internet or attempted to understand based on the context. Patients are still afraid of seeming suspicious or displeased if they indicate that they would like to read their records. Health-care organizations should consider actively offering patients the chance to view their clinical documentation to a larger extent than what has been done so far.

  • Intrinsic reliability of AlOx-based magnetic tunnel junctions
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: IEEE transactions on magnetics. - 0018-9464 .- 1941-0069. ; 42:10, s. 2661-2663
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present a detailed investigation into the intrinsic tunnel barrier reliability in AlOx-based magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJs) as a function of aluminum thickness and oxidation time. The intrinsic reliability is measured as the ramped breakdown voltage (V-bd) at room temperature for both positive and negative polarity. We find that Vbd generally increases with the resistance-area (RA) product of the MTJ. While this dependence is quite strong at low RA, it gradually weakens for higher RA. At fixed RA, Vbd also depends on the original Al film thickness with better properties for thicker Al. Finally, we observe a polarity dependence of V-bd which changes sign as the MTJ goes from thin Al to thick Al. We attribute the polarity dependence to the different quality of the top and bottom interfaces and conclude that the interface emitting the tunneling electrons primarily governs the barrier reliability.

  • Origin of temperature dependence in tunneling magnetoresistance
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Europhysics letters. - : IOP Publishing. - 0295-5075 .- 1286-4854. ; 63:1, s. 104-110
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present detailed measurements of the differential resistance (dV/dI) of state-of-the-art FM/AlOx/FM magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJ) as a function of applied bias and temperature. Temperature effects are particularly significant in physical quantities involving narrow features such as those at low-voltage bias. We show that the temperature evolution of the tunneling characteristics and, in particular, the pronounced rounding of the dV/dI curves with increasing temperature can be well explained by thermal smearing of the tunneling electron energy distribution.

  • Tunneling criteria for magnetic-insulator-magnetic structures
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Applied Physics Letters. - : AIP Publishing. - 0003-6951 .- 1077-3118. ; 79:19, s. 3104-3106
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The bias and temperature dependent resistance and magnetoresistance of magnetic tunnel junctions with and without intentional shorts through the insulating barrier were studied. Based on the experimental results, a set of quality criteria was formulated that enables the identification of barrier shorts. While the temperature and bias dependencies of the junction resistance and of the fitted barrier parameters are very sensitive to the presence of such shorts, the same dependencies of the magnetoresistance are surprisingly insensitive. Finally, junctions with a shorted barrier exhibit a dramatic increase in noise level and junction instability.
